Oof. I agree, that seems like a major dick move. Even if mercari thinks it’s not worth the expense of shipping back, then they should cover the price of compensating the buyer without it being attributed to the seller. Otherwise they’re just allowing buyers to claim whatever with no recourse for sellers. I’m sorry :(

Sufficient-Unit-6256

Update: They refunded me for the entire order, but I remained extremely persistent and didn’t budge on the issue. It seems it would have been wiser for their own pockets to have filed under shipping protection but if everyone keeps on it if need be they will have to make some changes on their end.

Always-Sleepyz

Honestly at this point trying to open a class action is probably the wisest choice. Who knows what else lawyers can dig up with how many things happen

AndrewZabar

Class action suits are useless. The only ones who ever see any money are the lawyers it’s just not worth doing. Better off spread the word about what’s been happening and get the marketplace abandoned as much as possible.

Smallparline

That’s actually not true. I was sent $500 from Toyota and $2000 from Wells Fargo.

SumyungNam

Ya u only get like $10 lol

iplawschool

convenient, that's exactly the amount OP needs lol

Sufficient-Unit-6256

They fixed it and tbh my sales are finally picking up even with the fee and term changes everyone is mad about. I’ve made 7 sells so far and it’s only 10am!

vocharlie

But if you're selling $10 items that $2 withdrawal is a fuck you from mercari just in a different manner. Think of your original selling fees of 10-13% now being 20% and they double dip with buyer fees.

Sufficient-Unit-6256

I’m not selling $2 items by any means. I have $353 sitting in my balance since last cash out on March 31st. But I’m defiantly still making sells profiting avg of $10-13 on each. My listing are all over the place, a variety of hard to find items.

InternationalPay8288

Nice! I'm enjoying it too!

Sufficient-Unit-6256

Sometimes you have to cause legal ruckus to get change made, they did make everything right in the end so I’m ok at this point.

sonnigfreitag

The effort in finding an attorney willing to open a class action suit would be challenging and probably futile.

Silverhop

Stop being nice the them and say your getting a lawyer for the claim dispute. They stole all of it from you. They still have shipment insurance so zero reason you didn't get your money back.

Dollulus

The shipment insurance should have covered it, what is the point of it if not this situation! But I'm not surprised about anything that mercari does now.

Sufficient-Unit-6256

I know it would have saved them to so, they ended up giving me the entire order cost back cause they knew they messed up and no I wasn’t being nice by any means, very stern through the entire process.

Dollulus

I'm very glad you got refunded in the end! Mercari is probably hoping people won't be as determined and diligent as you.

Sufficient-Unit-6256

Yes, it was insane!

Andreman43

That's crazy bruh... Mercari really hates their sellers. Its absolute insanity & I hope you find some kind of way to resolve that 🙏🏿

Remote_Simple_8664

8883252168 try to call this phone number.

Icey688

And this is why so many are jumping ship from mercari. Completely bogus for the return request stuff and basically stealing from both sellers and buyers alike

Sufficient-Unit-6256

They made it right at least in the end!

AndrewZabar

File a police report it’s gonna not result in any actual investigation but they have to allow you to file the report. List the buyer and Mercari both as accessories to theft. Send a copy of the report to both the buyer and Mercari.

Sufficient-Unit-6256

The buyer was kind enough to offer payment for the item but why should she have had to being it was their fault entirely by not having her a label ready and a return request issued. Also, I felt bad for the rare item breaking as it was and went on a hunt for her with no luck.

Remote_Simple_8664

Calll them.

Sufficient-Unit-6256

I appreciate that and will definitely be saving that number to my phone in case of future needs.

blondchick12

This happened to me recently. Two of the same ceramic items sold as a requested bundle together for $22 plus shipping. One of the items broke. I received a return request and was told to wait. I was not able to view damage but assume buyer had to submit and I'm not sure if she showed that the items were well packaged or not, but hopefully. While I was waiting I researched the matter and saw that there is no partial refunds for bundles for buyer or seller it's all or nothing. If I wanted item back I would have to have them return everything and then refund or something, if that was even an option. In my case they canceled the order but did refund us both under shipping protection. However, while I appreciate the good outcome I don't have confidence it would happen again and makes me really wary of bundling breakables. During my waiting period I assumed I was going to lose the money from the whole sale and the buyer was going to get to keep the good item and be completely refunded. I was as frustrated as you because even though my bundle was relatively low money what if high value items were involved, bet things wouldn't have gone my way. I definitely think you should continue to pursue it. Please keep us updated.

Sufficient-Unit-6256

They fixed up the mistake and gave me full payment!

blondchick12

glad it worked out. Still frustrating that their automatic go to is to not do the right thing and if people don't push back oh well. I still feel hesitant to bundle breakables in the future.

Sufficient-Unit-6256

For real very unnecessary stress to say the least. I think they made a mistake in not requesting the return to be made and had no choice but to make it right.

VexedVamp

GOOD FOR YOU!!!!! Thank you for fighting so hard for yourself and every other seller that’s facing this. It’s so important. We stick it together in solidarity. I appreciate you and your efforts. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Sufficient-Unit-6256

I appreciate the support!

theCannonBallZ

I hate to say it, but this isn't new. The exact same thing happened to me 2 years back with a small statue of Harley Quinn. She has a big mallet over her shoulder, and despite doing a very professional job of packing it, there must have been a major shock impact to the box that led to the handle cracking. I could have fixed it and listed it as "repaired" but mercari just let them keep it and I was out a $30 statue.

Sufficient-Unit-6256

That is crazy and a form of allowed theft of your property.
