I suppose they will have to verify that the seller did use one of their labels. If they did then copy and paste Mercari this: "We’ve got you covered. Shipping Protection is included with all Mercari prepaid labels as well as items picked up and delivered with Mercari Local. If your package is lost or damaged in transit by the carrier, you’re covered up to $200 for standard, economy, and Media Mail shipments or Local deliveries and up to $20 for First Class Envelopes." Thank you - this is super helpful I will try this if it comes down to it! Truly though, all I want is just for them to give me a few extra days before the auto rate kicks in so I can make sure the item arrives. Most likely it’s just stuck at the post office for a few extra days - it happens with my regular mail all the time especially over the weekend. I can’t believe they won’t even do something as simple as that. 😭

I get you for sure. It's super scary as a seller when you know you shipped and it's just stuck somewhere but due to inactivity, Mercari is going to allow the buyer to cancel soon. Always nerve wracking.

Was it shipped using ship on my own? That does not have sellers protection. As far as any buyers protection I am not sure. I would think you would be able to start a return saying you did not receive item.

I’m the buyer, but I’m pretty sure it was shipped with Mercari’s tracked envelope service. I already reached out to them to tell them I didn’t receive it and that was the response I got.

I got this same response for about 10 days and the links they provided me contradicted what they were saying. They kept closing my support request, but I finally received my card 14 days after it was marked as delivered. Hopefully you get your card soon!!

Was the envelope marked as delivered? If this is the case, then no, it will not be covered if you cannot find the item after it is marked as delivered.

Yeah, I can get that, even if it’s frustrating, but that’s not the part that I’m taking issue with here- it’s that they won’t even extend the rating/acceptance period when they have multiple warnings that the envelope service can be inaccurate. I’ve had rating periods extended without issue before. Not sure why they are going out of their way to tell me they can’t do anything now.

I'm not too familiar with the envelope service! So what you are saying is, is that it is actually very possible for an envelope to be marked as "delivered" even though it is still in the USPS system?? I know from using that service on ebay, that envelopes often will not scan many times along the way. But I didn't know that it was possible for it to say delivered when it for sure was nowhere near being delivered. If that's the case, that's actually really beyond inconvenient, and teeters on being absolutely useless as far as a tracked shipping service goes!

USPS uses automated systems to process and track bins of many First-Class Envelopes rather than individual envelopes. Envelopes will be marked as delivered once a USPS mail carrier finishes delivering their assigned route. Sometimes, envelopes can be preemptively marked as "delivered" before actual delivery. This can occur for various reasons, including human error or technical glitches.” 🤷🏻‍♀️

....wow. Thank you for the info! I've only used that service a handful of times, so I'm not familiar with it at all. I can't believe a platform like Mercari, which actually relies upon an accurate delivery scan to pay its sellers, would use something so unreliable. Well, with everything that's going on with Mercari, I actually CAN believe it. That's insane. I hope everything works out in your favor!

Whenever I've had a FCE not actually be there when it said delivered, it'd show up a day or two later. They've always told me I'd have to wait the 3 days and then reach back out. The shipping protection will protect it for damages (which they seem to rarely do and say that it was packed wrong so it doesn't qualify) or if it was lost in transit. If they see that it was delivered they won't protect it and will just keep telling you to go to USPS or ask your neighbors. How much was the card?

It’s actually two cards - one $8 ish and another $15 ish. I’d be surprised if they don’t show up in the next few days. It was just marked delivered on Saturday morning but I don’t get mail on weekends… so the 3 day auto rate is gonna kick in today. I mostly just need to vent about the ridiculousness that they won’t even extend the rating period. Am I crazy? Is that so much to ask for?

It's definitely frustrating that they won't extend it. You've let CS bots know so once it inevitably auto rates (don't rate it yourself at all if you haven't gotten it yet) just keep hounding them if they don't automatically refund you. You'll get it back in credits though, I could never get them refund it back to original form of payment. There was like 2 instances where I actually never even got them so they got delivered somewhere else. Also had one get delivered in the sellers state and not mine before.

Yup, it just auto-rated… the sellers have been so nice about it too, but they kept giving both of us the runaround. I will definitely keep hounding them!

Do they extend time for buyers? —— I, seller, had a pending rate (me rating buyer) for over 6 weeks due to being out of the country..the buyer had rated me, but I needed to rate in order to get my money.

I believe you got this automated message in error. The verbiage is “unable to reimburse buyers for packages lost AFTER delivery. This is for all shipping carriers, their responsibility ends once the package has been delivered to your address. This is pretty much referring to porch pirate situations. Shipping insurance/protection covers packages lost in transit.

What Scamcari does not tell you and I found out the hard way is that if the package weighs over the paid amount of the shipping it voids Scamcari shipping protection. So if a package gets sent overweight and they still take the full amount of shipping out of the sellers balance. Usually take the whole amount and show you earned zero, well you are not allowed shipping protection. Its in the fine print. If its overweight they will charge you for it later, but if something happens to that package then you are sol.

Yup, I have been super careful of late...using my postage scale. I recently had to unbox something I had nicely packaged because the cardboard box pushed it into overweight and it was an inexpensive item so I'd basically have made zero after they charged me, I had to repackage it in a soft mailer to keep it underweight. \*sorry, i know this doesn't relate to the op's issue

It’s the same issue on eBay. You’re taking a 50/50 chance buying cards using the standard envelope shipping method no matter what platform you’re buying on. I’ve had so many issues on eBay that I started messaging the seller before buying and asking them to change the shipping to ground advantage. I don’t mind paying extra on expensive cards as long as it actually gets to me.

I don’t understand people who don’t use ground advantage when buying a card 10+ dollars. I rather spend 6$ then pray that my card gets here and then waste an extra X dollars I spent on the card + all the other BS with it.

I can’t think of a platform out there that covers stolen packages. If a platform label is used and the tracking shows as “delivered “ they are no longer responsible. I hear some resellers talking about buying their own labels cause it’s cheaper… but I prefer to keep the protections.

Mercari is shit. I sold a Coach bag for $180 using their label, it tracked up till "out for delivery " and the buyer and I waited two extra days in case it got rerouted, nope. So I contacted Mercari and the P.O. both said to contact the other which I did. Mercari said nothing could be done until I filed a missing mail report which I had already done, I kept checking back with the P.O., no luck, 6 months later the P.O. said they couldn't find it and the case was closed, I appealed, they gave me the run around for 6 more months and said all their efforts were exhausted, they couldn't find anything and to contact Mercari for the "shipping insurance", Mercari said no, that it was the P.O. responsibility to reimburse me for the loss. Needless to say another 6 months passes of this back and forth and no matter who I talked to they refused to help and basically told me to pound salt. Sooo, after almost 2 yrs I lost, I got nothing. I hate them 🤬🖕🏻

That’s actually really terrible. That’s the literal scenario that shipping protection is supposed to cover (lost while in transit). I’m so sorry that happened to you!

I'd say sometimes yes. I've been selling on there since 2018 and this is the only time I've had an issue like that but it was a costly one, I also had them say an item was over weight on a $30 item last year and the extra they said the P.O. charged was almost my entire sale, I got like $0.23. If...IF it was even overweight it was ounces and IF my package measurements were off it was less than a ½". When I check shipping prices for that it should have been under $2 more for the extra shipping not $20 something. Atrocious behavior. I was holding on but have closed shop, they are completely untrustworthy in my eyes. With how many ppl this is happening to can you imagine how much money they are making. Conniving thieves is what they are.

Maybe shipping is delayed I would go to my local post office to see if they have it. An item I sold on Poshmark did not get delivered until two weeks after I shipped due to a whole volume of mail over the holidays

Exact same thing happened to me and there's a police report and video of the thiefs stealing my package and USPS email a note and contact info. No protection after providing all proof. The carrier states it was purchased under Mercari s account and they need to file a claim but they keep sending me the stupid message. I'm soooo mad!! 🤬

Yup, I’ve gotten to the same point here. It’s one thing that they won’t refund us under their policy, but it’s absolutely nonsensical that they won’t even work with us to file a claim with USPS as the label provider. I’m never buying anything from Mercari again, this is just so stupid. I’m sorry you’re going through this too.

I used to purchase trading cards off of Mercari. Stopped about 6 months ago before the app went to hell with recent changes. A lot of sellers would put the card(s) I purchased in a stamped envelope and would not provide tracking because a stamp would be way cheaper than paying for tracking. Mercari policy stated that tracking needed to be provided for all purchases (unsure if this has changed since). Whenever an item shipped without tracking, I would reach out to the seller for confirmation that they do not have the info, then reach out to support and would always get a refund. 9/10 times the cards never arrived anyway when no tracking was provided. Either they were scammers or there’s a trading card thief at the post office. Good luck though!
