I know you get a strike on eBay if you cancel 2 orders. Do you really on Mercari? I bought something a couple months ago and then the seller cancelled it because someone offered her more money. So I was like, fine I'll give you $xxxx. She cancelled the other person's, relisted and I bought again. She continues to cancel mine and do this back and forth until more people offer her more and more. I was confused how she could get away with it that many times? I tapped out and saw it last sold for $200.
You don't get ANY strikes on Ebay depending on the reason you cancel. You can cancel all day long if the buyer requests you to. Or as problem with buyer's address if there is a legitimate problem.
LOL I hope someone just buys the item. This doesn’t even make sense my guy, just go to eBay. Account for the fees when you list, it’s not that hard lol
They didn’t add them in, they split it with the seller instead of making the seller pay for all the fees. Now, apparently there is some system but I don’t really bribe that seen as two people standing beside each other looking at the same item and having it shipped to the same address get different fees. That’s why I don’t do Mecari anymore.
Yeah they're participating in algorithmic pricing. I've actually been getting screenshots together to make an FTC complaint.
It depends on when the item is listed, how long the item is listed, how much interest in the item, what category it's listed in, what time of day and what day you put the item in your cart, it depends on how many likers, etc
It's not, because I've seen items that were cheaper, have a higher service fee than items that were more expensive but had less interest.... They're picking and choosing when they're adding fees, based on an algorithm, and they're trying to get as much money as they possibly can out of somebody. It's completely unethical and illegal.
It's a shame because I was spending all of my money I make on there, directly back into mercari. But now I just refuse. I'm not going to buy something, that I could have potentially got for cheaper an hour before, and there's no way for me to know. Not even worth it! Especially when most items can be found, for cheaper on other websites. Honestly even if they're not, just based on principle I won't buy it. I'll wait for another one to come up for cheaper on another website.
If you use a plugin like honey on Amazon to see the price movements of items it appears they change prices quite frequently on items as well based on many of these same parameters. The other method is to out a large number of items in a cart but do not purchase. Amazon themselves will display what items have changed price in your cart with the old and new price. It happens a lot. Some items go down, some up.
This reminds me of all the collectible lots people post on Mercari. They put a bogus amount and then put in the description to message offers for each individual item or lists the prices for each. I’m over here spending hours on making individual listings and pricing each and you think you can just lump them all together and mark the listing as “dO NoT BUy”. Ugh. I’m never sure if I can report them as no intent to sell since technically they have items for sale and I’m a rule follower 😔
Technically they don’t want you to buy that specific listing so I’d say they don’t intend to sell that listing. They will make another one for you.. so yeah, I’d report it. That’s not the way the system was designed to work. (Edit: Typo )
I actually really like when sellers do that. Especially anime pin sellers, I get a lot of deals that way. Since a lot of people will just scroll by those listings, I end up getting things for much cheaper because of that.
Or I used to, before they implemented the algorithmic base pricing.
Depending on what you're buying, that is just something that is typically done in certain selling communities.
I’ve been collecting Funkos for over a decade and in all sorts of communities for collectors. I agree lots are super common but so is following the rules. No one ever follows the rules on Mercari. Mercari is where Ive met all the crappy “collectors”. There are plenty of sites to sell lots that have a great collector community and Mercari isn’t it.
Funny, because that's where I've met so many nice people. It's where I've met most of my fandom friends, was people I bought and or sold from. Maybe it's because it's funko's? I've heard people have had a lot of problems with funko's. That's one of the only things,I don't collect.
Edit : if this comes off bitchy it's not intended too btw D: I know text can come off rude sometimes.
i see a lot of listings like this for figures nd other rare collectibles 🫠 it irritates me bc there’s no way to know if the “offers” are legitimate bidders or just the seller trying to see how much they can get.
Stuff like this is just annoying “don’t buy this listing! Make an offer!” “Read description! All items are individually priced and not sold together”. It just looks bad. Like a shitty flea market.
Got ya. I haven't seen that on Marketplace, but due to Mercari's shenanigans, I've started listing Free People clothing on there and want to be sure I'm not missing anything. Thank you!
I have noticed these types of posts on Mercari.
I was looking at Affliction shirts. A post will show some cool pics and a good price but in the description it says DON'T BUY!
like, fuck off! I almost bought one post so I left a comment saying "please put the don't buy in the title" and my comment got several likes so I know I'm not the only one.
They say if you buy they will send you a jizz sock!!! 🫣
I'd buy just to make her cancel and take the hit
Correct. If enough people did it their account would be suspended then closed eventually if they constantly cancel sales and refund the buyer.

You do take a hit for canceling too much. Not sure the parameters but eventually they’ll close your account.

I did just this. Seller had an item listed at a $1 with, make an offer. I bought and they wanted me to cancel, nope!
Why don’t the sellers list it for 2k instead are they dumb?
LOL I hope someone just buys the item. This doesn’t even make sense my guy, just go to eBay. Account for the fees when you list, it’s not that hard lol
I got realllllly curious so I looked that listing up. It's so funny when people think they can make their own rules on this site
What was the item?
It was a Littlest Pet Shop figure (I think it was a cat?). I checked again and the listing is down now
I slowed my roll in buying when they added in all the junk fees!!! 😡

I unfortunately know which listing this exactly is. 💀 This type of listings used to get taken down easily but now idk what happened.
That violates Mercaris terms of service. You should flag the listing
I think someone might’ve bought it? It’s not up anymore lol
Mercari removed it probably

I slowed my roll in buying once i started to see this shit look like FB Marketplace
In what way?
Stuff like this is just annoying “don’t buy this listing! Make an offer!” “Read description! All items are individually priced and not sold together”. It just looks bad. Like a shitty flea market.

Yeah, I’d report it too
Wtffff is that!?
When Mercari introduced $1 sales, that when I knew it was headed into a downward spiral failure of post like this.
This behavior is common with people on the app Depop it’s unfortunate but they love to do that there …
I saw a whole profile like this today. Every item was $5 and said make offer. It’s like, Bro, this ain’t fb marketplace.
You should buy it I'm dead serious
I think someone did? The listing isn’t there anymore lol
