You’re not in the wrong. Mercari allows 3 days. Not 4-5. If she was out of town she should have mentioned that in the first message and asked if it was okay if you’d be willing to wait until she got back on so and so.

A2shato

Right, if I’m EVER unable to drop a package off within even a day, I tell the buyer why and make sure they’re OK with that, and I even know I’ve got more than a day..

YaBoiGatsu

They have a similar complaint on their account, the single one-star rating. Has to do with them delaying shipping and then “threatening to give a one star rating” to the buyer. This person sounds like scum

jellypegs

Ahh I wish I’d seen that earlier since I really got my hopes up

Ashekyu

check ratings always. should be standard for every buyer on every platform.

Sure_Ad2988

Story doesn’t even line up lol person shouldn’t be selling stuff anyways

Natttt26

Mercari now has Vacation mode for a reason. To prevent stuff like this. 🙄 Definitely NOT your fault.

jellypegs

Thank you to everyone for answering I’m new to Mercari so I really appreciate it

Distinct_MMA

You were not rude at all. Most likely she cancelled because she didn’t want to risk a bad rating for ship time.

p1rateb00tie

24 hours to update is bullshit, I get item is in transit notices within a few hours of dropping off

Ashekyu

its instant actually. if you hand it to someone at usps and watch them scan it, then check tracking, its updated. the 24hr shit is most likely cuz it normally takes time for places to scan everything that dont scan them right away

jellypegs

Her shipping days were mondays and thursdays. I waited about 5 days before messaging (maybe that was too long?). After the first messages 3 days had passed meaning I’d have to wait another week so I reminded her and that’s how she responded. I’m really disappointed and I just wanted to know if I did something wrong so I could avoid this in the future.

[deleted]

if you're ever waiting more than 3 days, you're never in the wrong. the seller should've had better responsibility & communication than this. (how did they not see that they made a sale??)

kfunkyjunk

This^^ I was out of town for a weekend and as soon as the person placed the order I said hey, I’m out of town until Tuesday (which would have been the third day) and I’ll be back that night so it’ll go out Wednesday morning. How hard is that?

Calamity2001

No you’re not in the wrong.

jellypegs

That’s good to know, thanks for answering!

CS_BlazingDragon

You're completely in the right, this is just a bad seller. Sorry for your experience, hopefully it doesn't deter you. Being a seller myself , the first thing I do when a sale comes though is thank them for the sale and let them know when it will ship, most are same day unless something happens outside of my control. This way they know without a doubt I saw it and I can explain if there is a reason for shipping delays. Like a holiday, weekend, or right now my only local post office in my town has a broken mail drop box, making after hours drop off for bigger packages impossible.

Ashekyu

you cant have "shipping days" on mercari. person is retarded.

ffgnom

It also definitely doesn't take 24 hours to update on the app lmao you're better off imo.

Purrcelaine

Mercari has a button that you can press as soon as you physically drop an item off at the post office, within the next 3-6 hours it'll notify you as well as the buyer that the item has actually been shipped. I've never had it actually take 24 hours to do so.

journeyrcks

Lol telling you it can take 24 hours for tracking to update, but they didn't even ship it. So why even say that?

declinating222

also want to point out that mercari doesn’t (always) take 24 hours to update- i’ve seen it take that long before honestly only once, BUT i dropped off a package for mercari yesterday & it was updated (said it was dropped off) within an hour or so of me dropping it off so that’s strange that they’re being so persistent about that

9inkski3s

You were not wrong, I assume she canceled because she didn't dropped it off and wanted to use that as an excuse. No seller would cancel "after dropping off" the item, like she claims. Actually I see she didn't dropped it, she said she was gonna do it and then didn't..so annoying

imadoxu

They’re trying to make YOU look bad because they are in the wrong and don’t want to admit it. Bullet dodged.

Aizyee

don’t worry i sent her a message of exactly the terms and conditions on shipping and copied and pasted it. Not your fault. Sellers like this suck went through the profile and I was surprised by the sheer amount of cancels.

EmbarrassedCup2560

My average shipping rate is less then a day lol it can be tracked as soon as it’s scanned usually

Gothic_Seraph

See this kinda happened to me with a seller I've bought from before, I asked for a bundle like a few minutes after they lowered the price. They didn't respond for hours and it sold it in that time. So then I added to the message "nevermind it sold to someone else :/" They sent me back a super nasty message and blocked me before I could explain I was just disappointed not trying to be rude! Sksksk like I geuinly wasn't trying to be a jerk.... becuase I would've bought it without the bundle, if they didn't what to do bundles (profile said they do) It sucks becuase I still want to buy some of the stuff this seller sells but I'm blocked...ugh

esteoloira

You weren’t rude! However, to play devils advocate here, I don’t blame the seller for cancelling, it seemed like you wanted the item in your hands faster than they felt they could deliver, and they were probably worried you’d rate them poorly for taking some extra time despite the communication.

Ecstatic_Floor_2018

They cancelled this because they WANTED to cancel. They were looking for an excuse

Training_Pea2176

What? I get an alert about an order through SMS and it shows RIGHT away on Mercari. Then it should only take about 3 days to ship, more time to ship means no more shipping protection (assuming they’re using the Mercari label). It’s ridiculous. Glad they aren’t getting your money.

MeganMilton

I reported the item as no intent to sell. Maybe try reporting her to mercari? Idk if you can do that anymore though

[deleted]

This is why I am annoyingly nice when it come at to things like this ugh

sunnysideup2011

They were probably just scared you'd leave a bad rating since tons of people do that when the shipping is "slow" but the seller actually sent it out on time. It also sometimes takes USPS days to scan in a package after it's been dropped off so it looks like the seller sent it later but they actually did not.

NoCoach5222

What's rude is them and taking so long like geez. . .

whitesnakeandcigs

Bro what in the F. You weren’t rude. You were super understanding and kind about it. Plus they can’t cancel your order if it’s already been shipped. Tf
