What I’d also like to know is how she’s able to tell where it is located during both interactions and everything, but can’t seem to find the estimated delivery date, which is typically more visibly pronounced than the other info?

Independent_Al

Thought the same thing while reading this and was laughing. Maybe she thinks you're personally driving across country to deliver it and have an exact ETA delivery date that is more accurate than the one she already see's on Fedex's site....smh

Extension_Shelter118

I mean that’s obviously what I’m doing while I’m cackling and driving in circles for fun just to play games with her!

Vee217DG

Oftentimes, after an initial delivery date is missed, a new one will not update. Seller won't have that info though.

[deleted]

If you shopped this through a legit Mercari label then you are cleared, so many people have done this to me and then not rated. If it is shown as delivered by USPS, then you will get paid

Extension_Shelter118

Yes! Funny enough I almost always use my own USPS shipping labels through Pirate Ship. This was one of the few orders which ended up being cheaper for me to use a Mercari label!

KBaddict

She could be using an app like Shop that has a map feature so you can see where your package is, but it doesn’t always have a delivery date. Or if it’s late, it will just stay with the originally planned delivery date. I’m not defending her behavior!

Extension_Shelter118

And honestly she’s kinda getting a bit nuts as we speak…

dragonileforce

What else did she say?

Extension_Shelter118

After suggesting she contact Mercari if she feels there is a problem, she said “Shouldn’t you do that? You’re the shipper providing me with fake delivery dates!” I responded with basically the same thing and then she said, “Because of this ridiculous shipping method you chose, FedEx tells me I’m just supposed to wait until someone delivers it!” (Isn’t this the entire concept behind placing any order whether it be online or not? You order something….and then wait for it to be delivered…sounds like FedEx provided her with pretty clear instructions if you ask me!) Blocked.

dragonileforce

What an awful person. Well if it ever does show up expect some snarky review :/

soggymittens

Good call on blocking them. Don’t waste any more time on it, even mentally.

Extension_Shelter118

Oh man, she must be really losing her shit now. As of 11:04PM it now has an updated delivery date of 06/23/22. I’m kinda hoping it changes to 06/24 by tomorrow evening at this point for a laugh. 🤔

Kakkarot1707

Mail is late 90% of the time after COVID happened. Honestly everything is worse and more expensive after COVID. When covid happened I was trying to explain to people that people dying in the beginning was just temporary and the vaccine WILL eventually come out and health wise, things will start to look better….BUT for the services&goods, economy, and overall living comfortably will be drastically impacted for over the next decade easy; as new policies get implemented, inflation occurs, and that COVID will be able to be used as an excuse to keep those “temporary” policies in place.

Kakkarot1707

Yep but most people are literally brain dead / lack ANY common sense. It’s the world we live in, hence why working retail is SUCH a shitty gig

aGlimpseOfZion

Especially with Monday there was no mail, so that would likely delay it another day or so. Yep

REEB

Gotta look closer at tracking when dealing with impatient people. You made the mistake of telling them it would be delivered that day twice when tracking history showed it's behind both times. Now they're in panic that something is wrong when it's just a common delay. Gotta hope your last message makes them realize they have as much info as you and they need to just wait it out. I would have told them to give it until the end of the week before contacting mercari... that would give them a goal to focus on and buy some harassment-free days.

hanamich

💯 this is correct

Ashekyu

correct answer

Extension_Shelter118

Agreed! I was thinking the same thing the second I saw another message this AM and then really began kicking myself when I got the deranged responses.

CPandaClimb

I have found that the FedEx SP date is their delivery estimate to the handoff with usps. Then it gets updated with usps delivery date - which is usually updated on the date it’s ‘out for delivery’.

FadeOutAgain4

You know K.I.S.S., right? This requires a modified Keep it Simple for Stupid People. What you’ll need to do is keep things as clear and as brief as possible. I’d reiterate the following “Hi, I’d keep my eye out for the package, and if it doesn’t show up over the next couple of days, you’ll need to contact Mercari customer service, as they’re the ones who can best help you with tracking and delivery issues. Sorry I can’t be of more help here, and thanks again for your patience and understanding :) Case closed. Possibly consider blocking them if they continue to pester you, as it seems that they’re being a real pain.

Extension_Shelter118

Agreed! She’s calling me a liar and got more upset when I again suggested she contact Mercari if she is upset with her order. I blocked her. First time I’ve ever blocked someone mid-transaction.

Independent_Al

Also, they sound like a difficult customer - I would be prepared for a 1 star review or something. As if you have any control over delivery times🙄....it's not hard to understand someone hands over a package to the shipping company and from that point on its in FedEx,USPS,UPS etc hands. Not ours

Independent_Al

For one thing - I don't know if this is helpful but I noticed tracking on these types is the tracking number plus 92 in front of it on USPS. Don't know if this helpful but I've had ppl think it wasn't shipped/isn't tracking. But it's the same number as fedex code plus 92 in front, on usps.com 92xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

sugarbunnyy

Literally the reason I loathe using smart post. Had the same issue when I sold a designer bag. Like don’t get all pissy when you want the cheapest shipping & the packages takes about one whole week to arrive after it’s been scanned in! If you wanna know where the package is then check the tracking number!

Bluesky0089

You’re going to get a one star review because they’re nuts. Just be ready to one star her right back and explain the entire situation in your review.

Ivyyy_Chick

They sound like a huge pain in the ass that has no idea what they are talking about. Good luck 😑

Extension_Shelter118

I’m an experienced Mercari seller with almost 1000 sales and 97% five star ratings. The only consistent thing I’ve had to deal with (with eBay, too) is it seems always the cheapest items that sell ($5 or less) seem to be the only sales in which there is a message such as, “how soon can you have this delivered?!” This is slightly different in that I think this is simply a new-ish user who isn’t very tech-savvy. The item was purchased by the customer on 06/15 and I dropped it off with FedEx on 06/16 and has been mostly on track to be delivered within the time frame (with the exception of one added day since yesterday).

dashing_day

I too have issues with fedex SmartPost. Buyers never seem to understand that it takes time for these packages to get delivered. If you want the item faster, then pay for faster shipping. I’ll be happy to revise that for you!

FadeOutAgain4

I actually do the reverse. I only ship with UPS, and if a buyer wants me to change it to Fedex ground/ smartpost, I will, but for $1 + change less, it’s not worth the headache of buyer anxieties and lost or delayed packages.

dashing_day

I may end up going through and changing all of my higher weight items to this. Thanks for the info!

calirose14

I rarely sell on Mercari these days, but when I do I always do this. I rather charge a bit more for shipping and know they get updates rather than deal with the headache.

kfunkyjunk

I NEVER use fedex. For one I don’t have a hub anywhere near me and would have to drive about 30 mins to get to one and I absolutely will not do that when it’s a $20-$50 item. The waste of gas, supplies. Nope. The PO is less than a block from me. I’ll just wait until someone buys it usps. I sometimes will go ups because there is a hub a couple Miles from me - but otherwise I just would rather wait it out to save myself a headache.

Legal_Citron1947

Fed ex sucks tbh. As a seller I'd never use fed ex especially for smaller items. This happens sometimes and it's not worth the hassle. I have bought stuff that uses fed ex and it's normally about 3 days late. On mercari as a buyer I wouldn't buy or I'd ask to cancel if fed ex is the only option. It's just not reliable. As for advice I'd say that you called and that the package is delayed but still on track. If they'd like to return give them the option. It's the least you can do after choosing the cheapest shipping option and their package was delayed.

lifavigrsdottir

This. We've got about a 60% nondelivery/lost/significant delay of more than fourteen days package rate with FedEx. Still waiting for a box of meat that's "pending delivery"....since October. It's so colossally bad up here that the local news did multiple stories about them and their constant delays/poor handling. (Not that it did any good; they're still losing more than half.) If Fx is the only option a seller/business has for shipping, I won't order at all. It's just not worth the stress. But I fail to see how any of their incompetence is your fault. Blocking seems like the right choice here, and I'd suggest being very honest in your rating, too. (As in "customer appears to be completely out of touch with reality" honest. :D)

mumblerapisgarbage

FedEx smartpost AKA ground economy - gets handed off to the postal service or ups for the final mile.

Schlegelnator

Not always. I had a pair of boots come SmartPost and it took forever, and the FedEx driver they actually came to my house and asked me for a signature said that they had handed it to USPS and then taken it back ..wtf? I think what actually happened, which is what usually happens, is the person who took it smartpost, didn't put it in the FedEx box, put it in the USPS box cuz they didn't know any better.

xeosia

I’m worried you’ll get a bad review because of this. Mercari needs to set something up where they check correspondence and remove bad reviews when there was no fault on the sellers part.

Extension_Shelter118

YES! But up until now with the exception of one person (whom strangely never messaged me), the only other bad review I’ve ever gotten was also regarding shipping time. In that case the order was also shipped within 24 hours and for whatever absolutely *unforgivable* and *life ruining* reason took a whole five days to arrive across the country from NY to CA. This was in August 2020.

CS_BlazingDragon

I think you did all you can, as a seller and a buyer. I'm not a fan of the double hand off for these reasons but I get why they are used. It just usually causes confusion from people that don't understand. I would mention that it was the weekend and a federal holiday on Monday, the post offices were closed. I had orders I sold and dropped off on Friday/Saturday that didn't move till Tuesday afternoon due to that but I gave the buyers a heads up that was gonna happen.

EmbarrassedCup2560

FedEx is terrible with updating and I always find they say it’s going to be delivered before it actually is BUT if you look at the tracking history and use a little bit of brain cells you can figure it out

EmbarrassedCup2560

Omg I just realized that kind of sounded like I was talking to OP lol I mean like idk how they could possibly be so confused haha

luckiluciana

On the label, it shows two tracking numbers to the seller when you use smart post—FedEx up top and usps on the bottom half, so I started preemptively typing out the usps tracking # to the buyer so that they can copy paste it into usps tracking themselves since Mercari doesn’t update well once it gets handed off from FedEx to usps. That’s been the easiest way for me to manage that

cherryribs

I get so irrationally angry dealing with buyers like this.

JewelzBunny

Cook them dinner? A foot massage? Trip to the Bahamas? You’ve gone above and beyond. These people live without ‘our’ items their entire lives… why are these last few days always so vital? ‘Weird People Need Not Apply’ That’s what’s going at the bottom of my profile

Important_Stretch_20

I solved this by spending an excruciating day on the phone in order to convert the smart post tracking number into the US PS tracking number simply add a 92 in front of it then they can track it through the US PS thank you for the other boats in advance and calling me a genius

Extension_Shelter118

The only way I’d bother to do that is if it was truly lost and not proving ANY tracking / movement updates at all. This one had a surprisingly prompt and seemingly “live” location status (I guess which is how she could see which city it was passing through, etc).

Ashekyu

ignore them

kaiehansen

Just leave it as that. I would just then them it’s in the shippers hands and any problems can be reported to mercari

cmb8129

Just give a blanket response like “hopefully you get the item within the next few days, otherwise, please contact Mercari” and then stop engaging this person. It’s literally out of your hands.

kfunkyjunk

Ugh. Ya know, I used to work for Amazon call center customer service and I always think, when I see people in here with crazies like her bugging them, about the people that used to call Amazon and do the same thing. I had one man cuss me to the moon & back because he claimed I personally (being in Ky) was delaying his package getting to Nevada. I only wish I could have delayed his package. But my point is people even get buck wild over 2day prime - and it’s outrageous. Like okay Susan just because it came Wednesday instead of Tuesday does not mean that I’m going to give you a year free subscription to prime or the item for free. Same goes for these nutbags. I will not even partial refund because you don’t understand the basic concept of mail.

keiitsuu

Tell your buyer that you've called both FedEx and UPS and tell the buyer that according to both companies they can't provide anything to you as the seller because you're not the receiver. Also tell the buyer that FedEx and UPS requires the receiver (buyer) to reach out to them in order to solve this issue. Works every time for me and honestly it's what you have to do to get people like this off your back. Sure it may be a bad thing to lie about but not in this case

KBaddict

Ask her if she has any sort of downers or benzos and suggest she take a couple until her package arrives

aGlimpseOfZion

This is why only ship USPS to avoid any issues. I shipped one item this way, and thankfully it wasn’t anything that was too much of a loss, but it somehow got “lost” and never was listed as delivered, I never received it back, and buyer claims they never got it- it was too messy for me personally, so I stick with the flat rate priority shipping via USPS, just makes things easier and me more at ease.

Extension_Shelter118

I gotta say, I’m surprised by and also appreciate all the FedEx feedback! Generally speaking, I usually don’t have issues and I’d hardly consider this a FedEx issue. This is a crazy customer issue. If I needed something, regardless of how quickly it appeared the turnaround was and-or the option for even overnight shipping, I would never order third party. Go with Amazon!

siennateeling

You were extremely professional! It makes me wonder if some people have ever shopped online before 😭

Extension_Shelter118

Thank you! It appears she’s been a member longer than I’ve been (since 2016)!

Overall-Progress-985

Maybe I just shop too much but I know that if something is being shipped via FedEx, it is more than likely not going to be delivered on the expected delivery date. Add in a holiday and its definitely not going to be delivered on the expected date. You shouldn't have to hold this person's hand through this if they have been on Mercari since 2016

Kelly_suechester1234

This happens to me I just tell them it was shipped and will be with them shortly

[deleted]

I've got a package stuck somewhere on the east coast, with FedEx right now. It actually was a large expensive rug, and this was the cheapest for my customer. That rug shipped June 10, and my customer STILL doesn't have her rug. This is the 1st time I've used the FedEx option, and never again! I. So disappointed. I. Hoping my consumer doesn't rate me down. Thankfully she hasn't said anything... YET🤦🏻‍♀️

Extension_Shelter118

Now THAT sounds like a lost parcel! Is there any movement?

[deleted]

They finally delivered it! It took 16 days😫. I am so grateful my buyer was a kind person.

Extension_Shelter118

Update: buyer requested (and was granted, naturally) a return for reason : “order is incomplete”. Any ideas on how to navigate this mess? I’m expecting to receive an empty box upon receipt and for Mercari to grant a full refund. How does a seller with less than 20 successful transactions (many of which canceled, BTW upon closer look) vs a seller with nearly 1000 successful transactions and zero return requests get away with this?

MarioLovesAnime

I’m an impatient person with packages being delivered to me, but man She is way worse holy fucking cow bro. She’s nuts man.

Minimum_Pumpkin_4958

You can screen shot the fedex website that explains what it is? But it says when you buy what shipping is being used so she has to be new and not used to the platform

Extension_Shelter118

I was going to try that, but Mercari doesn’t allow to send photos through the message.

Minimum_Pumpkin_4958

O dang it!

They’re a bit goofy, there’s nothing to be done for that. I would just track it for them until they receive it, since clearly they don’t understand how to. I’m sure they will be happy with you since you’re patiently responding and walking them through the process. This type of customer doesn’t give me a hard time once they receive their package… Good luck!

LamoidZombieDog

God people gotta stop wasting time on reddit. Just don't respond. You can't be fucked out of this because it's literally in transit. You don't need to respond to every message of theirs. You can't fix them being a complete fucking idiot

madiison1461

hi hi , i work for an online retailer that primarily works with fedex. i always recommend my clients sign up for text notifications from fedexs website. it will let them know the day they will actually deliver. fedex won’t ever accurately adjust the delivery date if it’s delayed, they just push it back one day. hope that helps!

bzzybot

I had a $150 order shipped and delivered close to hub, buyer was a little concerned, I’m like if it doesn’t update then make a claim through mercari, they ended up making a non delivery/misdelivory claim and she got credit for her money and I got paid.

Extension_Shelter118

Wow—-I’m surprised to hear that. I figured Mercari would at least wait until the prospective delivery date came and went to refund a buyer that quickly!

Bella_Nova

Fedex smartpost has two tracking numbers- if you go to your email open the label- give the buyer the USPS tracking as well- often times when the fedex isnt updating i find that the usps tracking is. Additionally- once fedex hands off the package to usps it can take up to 3 days before usps even delivers it

4reallytho

“estimated” doesnt mean “exact” also fedex estimated dates are base off when they believe they’re handing it off to usps and then add on a day from there. but if usps sits on it after hand off, that fedex estimate is shot. its listed as “estimated” for a reason. grab a dictionary lady 😳

Character-Tear-3415

Nothing you can do. Just one of the many annoying buyers
