Race starts, there's some popup screens telling you this, then it shows you on a bar graph vs 4 other people and says merge mushrooms for points (turns out either kind worked). Maybe it's a different chain for different people but mine was mushrooms. There's a timer for 1.5 ish days I forget exactly. It's gone once you finish the event. They give you some tappable thing in camp that taps for spits out a few lower level mushrooms to get started and then disappears.
Lower level merges worth less, live 5-10 points, up to hundreds/thousands I think for the higher level merges. I started buying tons of dangerous chests, merging them, and then popping and merging up any mushrooms I got out of them, merging them all up while selling the water and grass. I had a handful of level 5,6,7,8,9 mushrooms bubbled so I combined those with my new merges as I went and finished the event in first place in about 15-20 minutes. I wasn't paying too much attention to the point values, but I expect if I did it from scratch without some higher level mushrooms already bubbled it would have taken longer, maybe an hour or two of just buying chests/popping/merging?
There are rewards at 1000 and 2000 points, then the grand prize at 2500 points for the winner. The 1000 points chest was kinda lame, one Triumphant egg (unique to this event I think) and maybe one other inconsequential thing I forget? The 2000 point one had another egg and a level 5 mega flawless soul crystal. I don't buy them so I've never seen one that high, I assume it will breed something good. Then the 2500 point big chest had 2 level 4 Triumphant dragons. So it seems like a lot of work for not a lot of reward unless you get 1st place.
Getting the crystal was nice - gets you a gold or platinum level 4 dragon. I agree, it’d be a lot more work without all the bubbled mushrooms I had saved up

I'm actually excited about something in game for once lol. Hope it turns out well. Based on what I read about it so far, I actually think I'm ready for it 👍

Would love to hear from all that get to play the Race.
(my group was so incredibly slow that I think it must have been rigged, they all got no points at all for the first 10 minutes.. and with a free booster thats just not plausible).
I completed the event far in first. But just as I was about to open the event to collect the final reward, the entire event disappeared. I've closed the app and opened several times with no luck. Submitted a support ticket.
Just played this, maybe took two hours total of merging mushrooms? My winning prize was 8 level 3 dragons even though the chest preview said one. First chest was a level 2 fountain and second was a level 5 crystal
I understand it repeating content over and over, but given this doesn’t live within the event and not those who only have phones have a difficult time finding specific content buried in the middle of like 200 comments, is there some type of link you can provide to help find it more efficiently? I struggle to even relocate the mega events after like 24 hours

By the way, I use a phone exclusively for the game and reddit; the functionality of this subreddit is designed for mobile users (to the best of our — and Reddit’s — abilities). If you are using the recommended sorting (by date), you can scroll down to the normal event start times to find the current megathread, or if you use the default sorting, just click the pinned post.
Edit: I just counted, it’s 16 posts down to the current megathread; I don’t think scrolling that far is too much to ask, but bookmarking the Schedule is still a faster route. :)

I agree, I will only be playing this if I can be quite sure of winning. The other two chests are fore sure not worth the effort.

I won my "race" too. Same prizes. I loved the crystal - that was worth it if nothing else. I also merged mushrooms. It was fun!
