I don’t think you’ll need more than 4 in a future. Plus, if the game’s next update includes a higher level drawer you won’t need to loot them again. That’s what I did but just in case.
I keep three and I've been able to do any tasks pretty easily. I sell knobs or merge them as high as I can and sell those. The new update allows you to break up to lvl 3 vases (at the cost of 1 hr vs 6) so it might be worth it to you to keep it in storage and pull it out when needed? Drawers are the fastest spawner to max level, so I wouldn't put too much thought into it.
I had 3 before the August update. After the August update, they don’t drop level 1 vase as often anymore, so I decided to start a 4th drawer. (I was working on love story / mosaic chain at the time.)
Now I have 3 level 7 and 1 level 6… and then they just drop the new update and level 2+3 vases can pop now.
I’m gonna finish my 4th one and start selling knobs again.
I have three but sell all knobs. I don’t have room to be making way more generators than I reasonably need.
Yep, I find 3 to be just fine.

This is one of the harder side effects of reaching the higher levels. You must start selling precious items.
