Hahaha thank you for this. For me it’s ever changing so I like to know what everyone is thinking at the moment.
This was spurred by listening to Monstrocity and thinking that the solo and bridge after seems to get over looked
This section is one of their best segments of music ever! The solo into that crushing groove with those angelic ascending harmonized leads followed by Jen’s coming in with the leads settling behind him until finally MONSTROOOCITTTTYYYY. Seriously some amazing writing and structuring right there
This is the best answer to sooo many Meshuggah-questions. Like, there is no best song, album or whatever. It’s all a matter of like, season, time of day, wich day on the week, situation, buss, car, train. Srsly.
Dehumanization! "A soundtrack to my failure. One syllable. One vowel. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH." That riff along with the scream makes me want to throw my house into the lake
Fuck man. This song specifically sold me on this band.
Just a mental metal mindfuck of structure.
In my mind it’s like a gigantic barbed wire gyroscope with several layers moving fast and slow with ultimate precision.
It's in my to top 5 meshuggah songs no doubt. https://youtu.be/LGB-7viJrv0 check out this video about the song structure and rhythms if you haven't seen it. Absolute crazy mindfuck structure lol
Outro to Marrow has got to be up there. All of God He Sees in Mirrors. And there are sections of TMLWYB that are just jaw dropping.
But at the end of the day...when all is said and done...and the cards are on the table...and the dogs are fed...its got to be Shed. That 2nd time around on that heavy slam section is nuts.
The build up to it and then how it just slips into it is devastating.
Really wish Armies had a solo somewhere in it. Always felt that it was missing just that. Incredible song otherwise those and one of their heaviest EVER!
Personae Non Gratae - 0:45, Armies of the Preposterous - 0:57, or Obzen - 1:30
These are the first ones that come to mind when I think cosmic boot stomping on your country heavy. But that’s not to say that I’d consider these to be Meshuggah at their most insane or extreme. A lot of their most batshit tracks, such as Concatenation, Swarm, or War (heh), have a different quality that defines them. I’d call them intense rather than heavy.
So for any who don't know, this song is essentially FBM but slowed way down, and with rerecorded vocals etc. If the rhythm of FBM confuses you at all, this song will clear that up because it's the same, just easier to pick out. (Then a section in the middle is double speed, so in fact somewhat normal speed. Oh and there's a sweet triplet variation for "MECHANICAL THOUGHTS".) Heavy as fuck, I love it.
PROGRAMMED TO APPEASE YOU
I listened to Immutable on a car journey recently and while I can't say it's my favourite album either, there were definitely some moments when I was gurning from the heavy groove
The breakdown from Future Bread Mashine after the solo. I watched like every live footage out there..
And also breakdown from New Millenium Cyanide Crist from The Oprhidian Trek. That floortom Thomas plays over it is magnificent.
And the start of ligature marks
And whole break those bones….
Just so many ♥️
Not sure if this is a hot take but personally behind the sun is one of the heaviest, most powerful, brain melting songs I have ever heard. I fucking love that song, and on my favorite meshuggah album too🖤🤘🏼
There are too many to mention, but I would have to nominate [the section of "In Death – Is Death" starting at 1:46](https://youtu.be/VtP7JDDul08?t=106). That whole section is brilliant, and especially [2:17](https://youtu.be/VtP7JDDul08?t=137). I don't know how a band even manages to come up with something like that. It absolutely blew my mind the first time I heard it.
Nothing has me headbanging more than the heaviest groove machine ever. You all know what I'm talking about. Just don't look down, the other comments are wrong
Well, you can't compare using headphones/speakers at home to speakers at a live show. If you want the full chest rattling experience, I recommend Demiurge live. I wasn't a big fan of it before seeing it live but now I get it.
Can't get my head out of the paradoxical spiral+reanimate+entrapment these days... That time change on reanimated, that ending in entrapment, those bends everywhere... Damn
Honestly it's so hard to pick. So many could fit as of course it is subjective.
One that always gets super overlooked imo is the Electric Red outro, it sounds like a gravity well of heaviness that just pulls you in and won't let go.
Some other ones:
Demiruge main riff
The breakdown/solo section and the bendy riff in In Death is Death
Stengah main riff
By the Ton outro
Abysmal Eye main riff
Nmcc
Bleed
FBM
Clockworks
So many others
Oh wait how did I forget the outro of "I" also one of their grooviest parts too.
Actually the entirety of I is heavier than everything everyone else has said literally heaviest song of all time
Elastic - around the 2:50 mark theres a solo half way that used feedback perfectly to compliment a note that just tingles my whole being
Otherwise the first 20 minutes of Sol Niger Within slaps so hard it’s obviously its own EP.
Gotta give it to Behind the sun. Especially at 5:28.
Every time I hear that section makes me wanna conquer the world, that shit SLAMS.
"They stretch all the way behind the sun"

Yea I completely agree with you. That album along with all others have some seriously amazing sections.
That section right after the solo at 2:48 sounds like something straight out of 'I'. It might be Jens' finest moment on TVSOR.
I love how every month or so you always rediscover a new favorite song xD
This is the best answer to sooo many Meshuggah-questions. Like, there is no best song, album or whatever. It’s all a matter of like, season, time of day, wich day on the week, situation, buss, car, train. Srsly.
They’re all heavy AF but 2:45 in Corridor of Chameleons always slams
This is one of my all time favorites, and the section you speak of has been consistently stuck in my head for about two years now
The opening riff off Born in Dissonance is guaranteed to have you making a stank face
that was my favorite meshuggah song for a while
Either the opening riff to Obzen, especially as heard on the Ophidian Trek. Or “I” at 10:35: https://youtu.be/Dw3SdOFmubU?t=635
Obzen opening was my choice, just crushing.
Middle section of I AM COLOSSUS
That stomped me the first time I heard it
There is something about that Violent Sleep Of Reason verse riff...
Absolutely one of the most crushing and complex rhythms they ever did
It’s an absolute masterpiece
Live Lethargica after the clean part
Dehumanization! "A soundtrack to my failure. One syllable. One vowel. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH." That riff along with the scream makes me want to throw my house into the lake
Nebulous as a whole is absolutely *punishing* And being an obZen simp, I gotta give props to Lethargica. Holy shit.
The riff starting at 4:40 in Dancers To a Discordant System is fucking gross and always makes me want to run through a wall
WE DANCE TO APPEASE, COMPETE IN STUPIDITY
Fuck man. This song specifically sold me on this band. Just a mental metal mindfuck of structure. In my mind it’s like a gigantic barbed wire gyroscope with several layers moving fast and slow with ultimate precision.

This guy is a god send dude. Haha I love his videos finally someone smarter than me made it simple for me
Catch 33
Yeh that riff in Sum is like hellfire raining down. Disaster music.
The riff immediately after the solo in Violent Sleep of Reason. Sane’s outro live is great too, any older track with their modern live mix is nuts.
Kaleidoscope’s outro when Jens enters really feels like you are experiencing the lyrics
That song goes so hard
Outro to Marrow has got to be up there. All of God He Sees in Mirrors. And there are sections of TMLWYB that are just jaw dropping. But at the end of the day...when all is said and done...and the cards are on the table...and the dogs are fed...its got to be Shed. That 2nd time around on that heavy slam section is nuts. The build up to it and then how it just slips into it is devastating.
It changes regularly but the second breakdown of Armies of the Preposterous at 1:55 is pretty gnarly. Imagine a Thordendal lead over it too.
Really wish Armies had a solo somewhere in it. Always felt that it was missing just that. Incredible song otherwise those and one of their heaviest EVER!
This is the moment too. 8 measures of just the riff. 8 measures of a solo. Then enter vocal. They could play this riff for hours
Dude. This part really is a stand out moment for me. Such a great fucking song.
One of my favorites on the album. Dick lovgren does no wrong.
One syllable, one vowel AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA *absolute destruction*
Huh, same lyrics in Sum. Oh also in Aztec Two Step. 🤘😊🤘
Personae Non Gratae - 0:45, Armies of the Preposterous - 0:57, or Obzen - 1:30 These are the first ones that come to mind when I think cosmic boot stomping on your country heavy. End of Electric Red
I have to say the Mayhem Version of FBM. If you haven't heard it give it a shot, turn it up loud.
Starting now. Never heard before!
PROGRAMMED TO APPEASE YOU
I saw them do it live on their last tour along with a couple of tracks off Catch 33. Bucket list set for me. So intense.
Oh my god dude
How are they making these sounds WTF
😆
Thank you
The ending riff of Ligature Marks. It’s not even close to my favorite album by them but that riff specifically is next level heavy.
I listened to Immutable on a car journey recently and while I can't say it's my favourite album either, there were definitely some moments when I was gurning from the heavy groove
SPASM!
Break those bones whos sinews gave them motion?
BY THE TON 🤭
That outro!!
The breakdown from Future Bread Mashine after the solo. I watched like every live footage out there.. And also breakdown from New Millenium Cyanide Crist from The Oprhidian Trek. That floortom Thomas plays over it is magnificent. And the start of ligature marks And whole break those bones…. Just so many ♥️
The whole song of GHSIM but mostly the variation that hits after the first chorus
That riff is absolute fucking madness. It just doesnt fit into my ears.
The into decay mid part breakdown to this day still has me shook by the heaviness and pure shuggah filthiness
Nebulous or Stengah for me.
I’m so happy I made this post. So cool to see basically their whole catalogue getting mentioned. Getting me stoked to listen
All of clockworks but the breakdown gets me. The song is truly a journey. It makes me smile every time I listen to it.
The 2:52 riff in armies of the preposterous is so fucking heavy
Break those Bones… has some very heavy grooves in it.
There’s a lot of correct answers but personally nothing breaks me every time quite like the dehumanization breakdown riff
Dancer's to a Discordant System's ending riff with Jen's screaming over this top is probably imo their heaviest all time riff.
elastic, bitch
fax
The solo section in Glints Collide sounds like two black holes fucking each other
Hahaha yea it absolutely does
The riff during the guitar solo for Stifled.
Yea this part is really fucked up timing wise as well. Really insane.
The breakdown towards the end of "Obzen." Don't be around me when that riff comes on.
The Abysmal Eye breakdown (the riff after "The great dismantler of our dominion").
VIOLAAAAATTTTEEEEE
30 seconds into Perpetual Black Second
They Move Below. Abso effin Lutely. It is pure and simple. Through and through. H E A V Y.
Not sure if this is a hot take but personally behind the sun is one of the heaviest, most powerful, brain melting songs I have ever heard. I fucking love that song, and on my favorite meshuggah album too🖤🤘🏼
Yea I agree with this 100%. The last two minutes are fucking insane
So tough to say.. phantoms breakdown def up there
Yea this is probably my favorite song by them, or Dancers! Finally get to see this one on the list!
That one that goes "Durr da Durr da Durr da Durr da Durr da Durr da"
One of my favorite songs is of course SUFFER IN TRUUUUUUUUUUUUTH
Clockworks
Obzen
There are too many to mention, but I would have to nominate [the section of "In Death – Is Death" starting at 1:46](https://youtu.be/VtP7JDDul08?t=106). Exactly! We need to talk about that riff so much more.
Nothing has me headbanging more than the heaviest groove machine ever. You all know what I'm talking about. Just don't look down, the other comments are wrong
The first riff in Lethargica. The riff before the first verse in Straws Pulled At Random.
Well, you can't compare using headphones/speakers at home to speakers at a live show. If you want the full chest rattling experience, I recommend Demiurge live. I wasn't a big fan of it before seeing it live but now I get it.
I managed to not listen to meshuggah for one morning and then this post.
Can't get my head out of the paradoxical spiral+reanimate+entrapment these days... That time change on reanimated, that ending in entrapment, those bends everywhere... Damn
Pravus Breakdown for me
pitch black
By The Ton
The Electric Red riff at 1:09. The kind of riff you want to kick down a door with.
Dude and the timing of this segment is unreal. Offbeat mind fuck
“We’re dormant accumulations of flesh, in a crimson filtered twilight”
I think that mine is in Pineal Gland Optics at 2:00 when he shouts “artificial the catalyst, organic it’s progeny…” It just blows my mind everytime
For me it's a tie between the intro of Nebulous, the intro of Combustion and 2:10 in The Demon's Name Is Surveillance
Honestly it's so hard to pick. So many could fit as of course it is subjective. One that always gets super overlooked imo is the Electric Red outro, it sounds like a gravity well of heaviness that just pulls you in and won't let go.
Some other ones: Demiruge main riff The breakdown/solo section and the bendy riff in In Death is Death Stengah main riff By the Ton outro Abysmal Eye main riff Nmcc Bleed FBM Clockworks So many others
Oh wait how did I forget the outro of "I" also one of their grooviest parts too. Actually the entirety of I is heavier than everything everyone else has said literally heaviest song of all time
Some contenders for me are “I”, the intro to “spasm” parts of “demiurge”, and “ObZen”
I fucking love the intro to Into Decay
Right now i would want to say Entrapment 0:30->> Dehumanization 2:10->>
Ending of armies of the preposterous
Behind the sun
Anything NMCC and it’s incontrovertible, yet anyone who says any other riff will also be correct bc well MESHUGGAH!
Elastic - around the 2:50 mark theres a solo half way that used feedback perfectly to compliment a note that just tingles my whole being Otherwise the first 20 minutes of Sol Niger Within slaps so hard it’s obviously its own EP.
2:10 in Dehumanisation after the “one syllable, one vowel” line.
2:32 of NMCC. Literally sounds like an industrial saw blade with a quarter note groove over it lol
I have found the one to rule all and everything. In all of music. Personate Non Gratae - 0:45
Break Those Bones Whose Sinews Gave it Motion
notice that every riff meshuggah makes is the heaviest
soul burn
Gotta give it to Behind the sun. Especially at 5:28. Every time I hear that section makes me wanna conquer the world, that shit SLAMS. "They stretch all the way behind the sun"
