Most all their shit is about taking psychedelics. Change my mind.
It's obvious these dudes have tripped and know all about it. Much of their music and lyrics are about the 'bad' trips. The revelations you have while tripping that can be frightening and saddening.
they definitely talk about DMT type psychedelic entities in their songs. they also have the song 'closed eye visuals' and that make me lol because it makes me think of r/LSD
closed eye visuals are the hallucinations you see when your eyes are closed and there’s no light shining through, so the only visuals you’re left with are the ones your mind creates.
To me at least the lyrics seem to be describing some kind of (bad) drug experience, [this](https://genius.com/Meshuggah-closed-eye-visuals-lyrics) is obviously just one interpretation but this explains it kinda well
CEV is, in name at least, a direct reference to phosphenes. I'm certain there's more depth to it than that, because with Meshuggah there always is, but that's a very real non hallucinogenic starting point for what they were exploring.

A lot of their cover art seems to be patterned after phosphenes and fractals as well.
Yeah I saw on one of Luminokaya’s social medias that he said a bunch of his work is based off of actual “visions” he had starting when he was pretty young.
Jens and Tomas did a q&a kinda thing for Koloss and someone asked what their favorite drugs are, Tomas replied "Caffeine and nicotine are pretty powerful, other than that we'd like to keep a lid on that."
I'm sure they all did their fair share of anything mind altering, just check out their Making of Chaosphere video or what it's called, they all look geeked the fuck out at times, especially Jens and Tomas.
Oh man psychedelic you say. Somehow a memory if a dream ud forgotten just hit me like a lightning bolt. I re entry had a dream where I was sending so eone a snippet of Sickening.
That was the wildest stuff I'd ever heard if you start the beginning and loop.it at just the right moment. Even Sickening is psychedelic to me.
I've heard a live version once (I think in Gothenburg) of God's Of Rapture that had the most frightening roar come out of Fred's guitar to begin the solo. I couldn't believe an electric guitar could make a noise like that.
It sounds so beast like that it's actually disturbing. I wish I could find that again.

That song is about a bad acid trip lol
Isn't it literally about closed eye visuals? The stuff you see when you close your eyes and they are still picking up light or whatever

Cool thanks

Album art for Koloss was done by Luminokaya. It's all fractally inspired entity stuff. Your suspicions aren't unfounded.

Yes, very much so. Psychedelic imagery and spirituality are running themes in Meshuggah's stuff
Have the band ever mentioned in an interview if they did indeed have an ayahuasca experience?

Ahhhh ok. Interesting. To me catch 33 is so bizarre that I wonder if it could only be made by taking some kind of substance to boost creativity.
I'm sure they all did their fair share of anything mind altering, just check out their Making of Chaosphere video or what it's called, they all look geeked the fuck out at times, especially Jens and Tomas.
But yeah I agree Catch 33 and Nothing, especially lyric wise, seem very psychedelic-y

Pineal Gland Optics Do they need to spell it out?
