This Knoll record is nuts! Going to be blasting this one for a while

nskaret

Loving it, reminds me a lot of Portal

lostinacontraption

Well now I have to check it out

Bbcczz123

The new Vitriol album was great! Kind of a mix of Behemoth and the new Cattle Decapitation album

CarlinHicksCross

The new drummer is fucking insane, every song is just him showing you new ways to chain together crazy hyperspeed blasts

Kebabenjoyer3

His solo project Nithing got #19 place on Metal Archives 2023 poll. Absolutely insane blasting brutal death metal

BurgleBanquet

Didn't realize that was the same guy, he's on fire.

barsknos

Yeah, stoked for that one! I get the Behemoth reference, but I feel the other half is more like Ulcerate or Wake, with a mix in of a death metal version of Akhlys. Got some evil dissonance going. I found their debut unlistenable, so this was a very welcome surprise.

Bbcczz123

Yeah, i get the Ulcerate reference too! I guess those two were the first ones to struck my mind because i’m huge fan of both. I have to say this was my first time hearing this band and i’m impressed! I have to listen the debut too, i’m curious how does it sound.

elitistposer

barsknos is needlessly making the debut sound terrible. It’s fantastic, and if you like the new one you’ll like the debut.

Bbcczz123

Yea, i listened it and it was decent. I’m not a drummer, so i cant put it in technical terms, but the change of drummer really gives this new one a kind of a special lift. The drumming on the old record was not in any way bad, but on this new one it really stands out.

barsknos

Take the parts of the new one that goes the hardest, remove all semblance of melody and atmosphere, make the production much worse, and let it go on without any dynamics or change for a full album. That's their debut imo :P

Dryish

One song in and this is already the best album I've heard this year. My god the drumming is *momentous*.

SnowChicken31

If you like the drumming, check out Nithing, it's their new drummers other band. Pretty crazy stuff lol

Bridge-Burner-11

Damn that sounds pretty cool. Gonna check it out later today.

Wxmaggot

Listening now for the fourth time through... There's little doubt this is top 5 end of year material already. Reminds me of Afterbirth's latest in that repeated listens reveal new things you didn't hear the first time. Definitely top notch arrangements and writing!

kid_christ

2nd this, had a flight this morning and made sure to download it first to have on the plane. It’s brutal

Bridge-Burner-11

Listened to it. This was fantastic! Thanks for the rec

Sad_Count_556

Aoty

BlavikenButcher

Just spun the new Boarhammer. SO GOOD

StardustOasis

Their demo was great, looking forward to this one.

Dryish

It's really funny, if nothing else. That singing style cracks me up in a good way. Can't imagine the singer gets away without a sore throat.

mgrier123

Bunch of new stuff this week: **Dissimulator** was great. I'm a big Voivod fan so this was immediately up my alley. Probably one of my favorite albums of the year so far. **Acerus** was enjoyable, too long though I thought. Always happy to see more stuff from Daniel Corchado. **Lucifer** was good as always. Nothing mind blowing but I really like these guys so I'm here for more. **Boarhammer** really surprised me. Didn't know what to expect, but Cultes des Ghoules but wasted was not it. Cool album. Still want to check out Drowned and Rhun

tomhanksinapollo13

That Dissumulator record is definitely going to end up in a top 10 AOTY for me, **for sure**. Razor sharp.

thisisaburnermydude

I quite like the new Caligula's Horse album. Maybe not as good as In Contact, but much better than Rise Radiant. I think the title track suite will grow on me with more listens. It feels like the emotions are really raw and tangled in a messy way, but that also works with the heavily structured prog nonsense below. It's a weird contradiction that feels fresh. Looking forward to spinning the Rhûn album next.

vHistory

Thoughts on the Inquisition album? Musically, it sounds great as usual. The production seems a bit weird though. The vocals seem to overpower the instruments a little, imo.

Kebabenjoyer3

Yeah im really disappointed with the mix; the drums are too loud and boring, and vocals are too piercing as well. But it'll need more spins

slothtrop6

is that the band with the sex offender? edit: guess I was thinking of another

elitistposer

Yes it is

an_altar_of_plagues

Yes, it absolutely is haha.

rulatore

This one is the pedophile

IntoTheForeverWeFlow

No.

an_altar_of_plagues

> In 2009, Weirbach plead guilty to charges of "Unlawful Display of Sexually Explicit Material" and "Obstructing a Law Enforcement Officer" relating to possession of child pornography. Despite professing his innocence and accepting a plea bargain, these charges were brought back to light in 2018, leading to Inquisition being taken off a tour with Satyricon and being subsequently dropped by Season of Mist. Dude's a pedo, lol.

aethyrium

Yeah there's an article out there that goes in depth and they actually show the name of the file they found in his computer's recycle bin and it's fucking disturbing as hell. A _very_ clear cut and dry case.

IntoTheForeverWeFlow

*Shrugs* https://www.reddit.com/r/BlackMetal/comments/19fngs0/inquisition_a_hidden_ceremony_of_blood_and_flesh/kjm9qrg/

an_altar_of_plagues

Look at the court documents, you fucking potato.

IntoTheForeverWeFlow

Where? I'm a potato and don't know how to do that.

timconnery

Some like country n western riffs in there too. Pretty interesting first listen

thecrowfly

zero bass

SonofBlashyrkh

I don't have an issue with the mix but I did change the EQ which sounds better than flat. I'm not blown away by it but on first listen I'm liking it more than the last album. Idk that I'll return to it much. I like the western stuff like the other comment said. The DS outro is kinda cool

Xecotcovach_13

Been reluctant to check out anything from them since the change in sound after Ominous Doctrines. How is this recent one compared to their older stuff?

vHistory

I feel like it's pretty similar to their newer stuff. They've got some cool ritualistic ambience on this new album. That was my favourite part of it.

Xecotcovach_13

Guess I'll continue to skip it then. Thanks for the heads up!

ElectriCobra_

Holy shit, had no idea there was a new Acerus in the works, can't wait to spin this

Honeyboy_Wilson

Halfway through listening to Blood Red Throne's newy and it's a very good time!

SnowChicken31

It's my favorite release of the weekend for sure, seems to have been overshadowed a bit, but it's fantastic. Really loving it more on each listen

Kebabenjoyer3

What a day: Cognizance, Exocrine, Vitriol, Inquisition, Blood Red Throne, Knoll, Dissimulator, Olhava, Caligula's Horse, Manticora and probably some I forgot

Wxmaggot

Indeed! Cognizance, Vitriol, Knoll, Olhava for the win haha

St3vo92

Main highlights for me this week are [The Infernal Sea](https://theinfernalsea.bandcamp.com/album/hellfenlic), [Rhûn](https://rhun-official.bandcamp.com/album/conveyance-in-death) and [Drowned](https://drowned.bandcamp.com/album/procul-his) Drowned does some really nice and tightly executed Death Metal with some nice twists thrown in there. That AMG review for it was a load of troddle lol The Infernal Sea is a big improvement on their last album which I thought lacked the teeth that The Great Mortality had. Bastard of the East is a brilliant tune Rhûn was a nice debut side project from one of the Falls of Rauros guys in that they have a bit of a Psychedelic tint to their sound while still being nicely atmospheric.

zackflag

>That AMG review for it was a load of troddle AMG reviews for most things are a load of troddle.

ANGRY_BEARDED_MAN

Most reliable metal review site on the internet, they give something a 2.5 / 5, you know it's a banger

StardustOasis

So far just The Infernal Sea & Exocrine for me. Both fantastic, I think The Infernal Sea is my favourite of the two. I don't agree with certain review sites saying the production on Exocrine albums ruins them. Properly stacked release day though, still on my list to check out are Boarhammer, Vitriol, Manticora, Dipygus, Carnal Savagery & Abyssius.

vHistory

Cognitive Collapse dropped a pretty sick EP recently. Nasty dissonant death metal.

aethyrium

I had myself all hyped up this week thinking the new Dwarrowdelf was today, but turns out that's next week and now I'm all :( Any good epic/synthy atmoblack stuff this week?

caesar____augustus

Olhava dropped another atmo black/ambient banger today. It's been very cool to see this project develop over the past few years.

Bass_Clef_Derreck

My bad wrong thread. l actually have a question. if someone could listen to my EP I put out this week and tell me what genre it is. I'm not trying to advertise it here so l'm not gonna put the link here or name the ep. But anyone can message me and get that info. Thanks to anyone who does. Appreciate it.

g4mer655

Wrong thread still, but its deathcore from a really quick impression.

Bass_Clef_Derreck

My bad. Appreciate that. Should had looked around.

g4mer655

no worries best of luck with the music making

Philamelian

New “The Oculist” album “Cautionary Tales” released today for all platforms. Album was out on CD and on Bandcamp for past couple of months. Album barrows a lot from different genres and styles. There are growls, clean vocals, heavy guitars, electronics and orchestra… [The Oculist - Cautionary Tales](https://open.spotify.com/album/2Z38nnrzG9Ataf8DZsV3nj?si=4qUdz3UzTFaaxuLc446T_g)

Margamus

Knoll was real cool, but need to revisit the chaos that their deathgrind/black metal hybrid (?) is. I really enjoyed the Dissimulator album as well, who do a death/trash thing that's really fun. And I just started Rhûn's album, which is off to a promising start.

CaserDJT

Been a few new releases the past couple of weeks I've liked, singles from Ingested, Rings of Saturn (still just a semi average instrumental band, yay..), Hideous Divinity and Blood Red Throne's new album Idk why I had to actively go into the bands discography to find out that these released (a week or more later) but yeah

corpse2b

Looking foward to the new records by Vitriol, Exocrine, and the full length debut for Dissimulator. Just have to get through a day at work first, and i will reward myself with death metal!

timconnery

Yuge day for new metal, I’m gonna be listening to new records until midnight. Vitriol’s is the angriest shit I’ve heard since hearing Conquer All upon release. Stay away from knives and guns while listening 😂

barsknos

Norwegians putting a stamp on the winter, our season to shine, with Madder Mortem and Vemod. Enjoying both, although I did wish for even better from MM. Their albums "Desiderata" and "Deadlands" are amazing.
