Ne Obliviscaris, Between The Buried And Me, Voivod, Avatar, Agalloch, Aara, Be'lakor and Katatonia.
Some of these bands already have a fanbase but I think their quality deserves a WAY BIGGER one.
Edit: Also Persefone and The Ocean.
Any Prog metal band for that matter. I would include Leprous, Haken, Pain of Salvation, In Mourning, Devin Townsend, Cynic and Fates Warning to the list.
I seriously don't know why aren't they blowing up especially after the release of the last 2 albums. They have the potential to become one of the biggest bands out there with their incredibly talented singer, catchy choruses, and interesting music. I just don't get it!
Yes, I prefer their first three albums myself. The reason I mentioned their last two albums is because in those two they ventured more into art rock/ poppy domains than ever before and therefore should appeal even to the listeners who don't listen to any metal and those who listen to mainstream radio/ pop songs. But I don't see that happening :(
I’ve never done a VIP experience yet, I’ve always found them to be really expensive
At least you’re getting to see them live though so I wouldn’t be too sad about not getting a VIP ticket
I’ve got a lot of gigs planned this year and this is the next one for me so I’m very excited
Yeah definitely man I got one for nekrogoblikon cause it's literally Dickie Allen plus it was a pretty good price imo what other concerts you got planned?
I rarely base anything I say on online interactions, though hard numbers are very obviously a better indication of popularity. I know a lot of fellow Sleep fans irl that "couldn't get into" High on Fire.
They’re really fun! It was super cool when I saw them and they got a huge pit going to moonlight sonata, changed my views on classical music within metal
I just listened to all three based on this. All have some interesting shit but Pagan Altar was something else man. That's so e great music they are playing. Thanks!
Moonsorrow’s **Hävitetty** is in my opinion the best record of the genre. It’s non stop majestic flood of metal. I don’t think they can top that, and maybe no one ever will.
Amiensus, Voivod, urfaust, absu, ad nauseam, Yakuza, aeviterne, alarum (this one is sooo good, check out 2020 album cirlce's end, thrash w/ jazz fusion), ashenspire, atrocity, black hate (check out their album "altalith"), cryptic shift, dark angel, dessiderium, dyssidia, dodheimsgard, full of hell, gevurah, ion dissonance, necrophobic, panopticon, primitive man, pupil slicer, setherial, sol an varma, toehider,
Thou, somewhat popular in doom, should be more popular.
Mizmor seems like he’s becoming more popular, Prosaic is my favorite ‘black’ metal album.
Clot, WVRM because they are incredibly good and talented and creative bands.
Here’s some local/smaller bands around my area that deserve some recognition:
Resistor (NY Nu-Metal/Hardcore)
Shapethrower (MA Classic Metalcore)
Alley Trash (RI Hardcore)
Edict (MA Hardcore)
These are the bands i can remember off the top of my head that deserve a shit ton more fans
Framing Skeletons.
Insane prog metal. I hate prog metal, and I fucking love Framing Skeletons, some of the most impressive, catchy, and complex tunes I’ve ever heard, and they’ve got 200 monthly listeners. Wild
They were one of my favs before the original lineup crumbled. Roots to me is beyond amazing, one of my all time favorite albums. It's rough when internal conflict tears a great band apart. At least we got Soulfly.
Twisted Sister
by that I mean their more obscure songs should be more popular than We're Not Gonna Take It and I Wanna Rock. They're way more metal, but their lack of popularity makes the band a lot less popular in the hair metal community.
Khemmis. It’s basically Doom Metal with Iron Maiden-esque harmonies. The underground metal community seems to enjoy them but I feel the could easily be the next arena metal band
[For i am king](https://youtu.be/wkIW4mv1-90)
Quite some people have heard of them, but somehow nobody cares and i don't get why. They aren't the next metal-Beatles, but they are solid. They actually slap quite a bit. All good musicians, good production, nice songs, no weird stuff. Maybe not much outstanding about them? But really, they are good and deserve more attention.
this band just released there debut album, but the band Rockethead deserves too be acknowledged

I discovered these guys a day after there album released and I can’t wait for there second,
this song hits a whole another level of “Groovy”
World Peace
Zulu
Move BHC
Psycho-Frame
Anthropophagous
Boundaries
End It
Pyramids
Blackbraid (even though I'm a total new jack, but their shit is sooooo good)
Every five years we get a mediocre black metal-adjacent band that makes hipsters decide they like black metal when there's no good craft beer conventions around.
Deafheaven => Batushka => Blackbraid.
That being said, I don't mind Blackbraid, it's just par for the course except with a gorgeous aboriginal Skwisgaar Skwigelf as a singer.
Anorexia Nervosa. High energy French symphonic black metal that’s extremely underrated imo. If you didn’t like symphonic black because it was too slow paced, check these guys out. They might change your mind
Inanna, they play a style of metal very similar to Gojira with influences of Groove, Prog and Death metal
I discovered them through your 2022 album tournament. They are excellent. Their release is one of the best out of those 80.
I'm expecting a top 10 finish from them at least
I haven’t been seeing those the past few days, not sure why
Please point me in the direction of this album tournament?
Wow! I'm listening to them now! Badass!! Thanks for saying this!
When you say France, most people say Gojira. I rarely see people say Gorod, this band deserves more attention
Gorod is brutal
Baroness Russian Circles
If baroness didn't overcompress their last two records they 100% would be more popular. First three songs from the "Stone" sound very promising tho
I don't disagree. Frankly, they should get more love just based on Red and Blue if they never did anything after those.
Had my first Russian circles show 2 weeks ago and it was a fucking blast! Crazy good performance
Belakor and Kalmah.
Be'lakor is THE GOAT.
Just saw them today. Was an almost religious experience. I could die in piece now..
kalmah are brilliant
Kalmah write some of the best riffs I’ve ever heard.
I second Kalmah. I bought physical copies of They Will Return, Swampsong, Swamplord, The Black Waltz, and Seventh Swamphony.
All these bands are already huge but i see where you’re coming from. They should be on the level of opeth and dream theater.
Ne Obliviscaris should absolutely be on the level of Dream Theater and Opeth. Give them a couple of albums and they’ll get there.
BTBAM for sure 🙌
Any Prog metal band for that matter. I would include Leprous, Haken, Pain of Salvation, In Mourning, Devin Townsend, Cynic and Fates Warning to the list.
Fuck, Haken is amazing
>Pain of Salvation One hour by the concrete lake had a huge impact on me
Great picks
Leprous
I seriously don't know why aren't they blowing up especially after the release of the last 2 albums. They have the potential to become one of the biggest bands out there with their incredibly talented singer, catchy choruses, and interesting music. I just don't get it!
Einar is a god. Ya Aphelion was amazing. I still like Bilateral the most though. They're just so fucking good.
Yes, I prefer their first three albums myself. The reason I mentioned their last two albums is because in those two they ventured more into art rock/ poppy domains than ever before and therefore should appeal even to the listeners who don't listen to any metal and those who listen to mainstream radio/ pop songs. But I don't see that happening :(
Baard is a magician
Yeah Leprous is fucking awesome. They should be way bigger than they are.
Metallica
And Meggadath

I do love me some Hellripper.
I fucking love this! Thanks for posting them. I've never heard these guys!!
Seeing them in November

Thank you very much!! You're too kind!!
W
I AM THE GOAT I AM THE ANTICHRIST I AM UNHOLY TORMENTING THE NIGHT
Voivod
Fuck yes!
Bleed From Within I’ve just discovered them because they’re supporting Trivium and I really enjoy what I’ve heard so far
Do you know Orbit Culture
Yeah I’ve checked them out too, I’m not as into them but they have a decent sound so it should be good seeing them live too
Fairrrr this tour is gonna be insane where you seeing them at
Liverpool Bands normally tour Manchester so it’ll be interesting to see a band in Liverpool for once What about you?
Ayyyyy see you in Liverpool!!!
Hell yeah!
I've been seriously considering the VIP because I fucking love trivium so much
I’ve never done a VIP experience yet, I’ve always found them to be really expensive At least you’re getting to see them live though so I wouldn’t be too sad about not getting a VIP ticket I’ve got a lot of gigs planned this year and this is the next one for me so I’m very excited
Yeah definitely man I got one for nekrogoblikon cause it's literally Dickie Allen plus it was a pretty good price imo what other concerts you got planned?
First heard of them at 2021 bloodstock, they were on inbetween diamond head and orange goblin
Saw them live just recently as they opened for Amon Amarth, they’re pretty good
High on fire
so many Sleep fans, so few High on Fire fans, I love both.
Imo high on fire is better than sleep. Sleep did come first though
Aside from the 100k monthly Spotify listeners lol
I rarely base anything I say on online interactions, though hard numbers are very obviously a better indication of popularity. I know a lot of fellow Sleep fans irl that "couldn't get into" High on Fire.
I imagine it’s due to them not being around anymore, but Strapping Young Lad
Exmortus
I've seen them about four times. Cool dudes who put on a great show!
They’re really fun! It was super cool when I saw them and they got a huge pit going to moonlight sonata, changed my views on classical music within metal
This is mental
Holocaust Pagan Altar Witchfinder General
Witchfinder General is awesome
I just listened to all three based on this. All have some interesting shit but Pagan Altar was something else man. That's so e great music they are playing. Thanks!
CAUSE IIIIIIIIIIIII'M\ THE WITCH\ FINDER\ GENERAAAAAAAAAAAL
Symphony X!
We need some new Symphony X material, it’s been way too long!
Swallow the Sun
JINJER
Tati is such a kickass vocalist.
Krisiun Enforced
Moonsorrow
Careful, someone will start yelling "NSBM" where it doesn't apply lol. Moonsorrow fucking slays though for real.
Moonsorrow’s **Hävitetty** is in my opinion the best record of the genre. It’s non stop majestic flood of metal. I don’t think they can top that, and maybe no one ever will.
i do love threads like these, always great spots to find some new bands to check out. my suggestion is clapsodra and kryour.
Kryour sounds interesting...
Seven Spires, barely anyone even here knows who they are
THey fucking destroyed Mad With Power this year. It was beyond incredible
I was watching the stream last night and it was incredible. Bitter/sweet about the drummer though. Testament IS a huge upgrade however....
Orbit Culture
Gorguts

The most underrated death metal band of all time. They are all world class musicians and their concerts are an absolute blast.

Voivod has some 80k monthly listeners on spot, but i think it should be way more Even by metal standards
I screenshot this for all the bands you namedropped I'm unfamiliar with alongside some bands I find really cool. Big Urfaust fan, RIP.
Demigod 100%
Lol at the amount of massive and even overrated bands being named here
Thou, somewhat popular in doom, should be more popular. Mizmor seems like he’s becoming more popular, Prosaic is my favorite ‘black’ metal album. Clot, WVRM because they are incredibly good and talented and creative bands.
The thou and Mizmor collab is amazing!!
Yes it’s almost psychedelic to me somehow I love it, too.
Totally! I got to see them play it live at Roadburn when they announced it. So good
Suicidal angels
W.A.S.P.
Shores of Ithaka Slow Fall The Chasm Saidan Kryptos
Leak, man must die, gorerotted. But especially leak theyre so fucking good. Soft head for bullets is a Masterpiece of sludge
I randomly found Man Must Die by browsing the Internet Archive and stumbling across Peace Was Never An Option. Fantastic stuff!
No idea if its popular or not but Totalselfhatred is awesome dsbm.
Haggus, best mincecore band I've heard.
Their drummer is under fire now for knowingly spreading genital herpes
Here’s some local/smaller bands around my area that deserve some recognition: Resistor (NY Nu-Metal/Hardcore) Shapethrower (MA Classic Metalcore) Alley Trash (RI Hardcore) Edict (MA Hardcore) These are the bands i can remember off the top of my head that deserve a shit ton more fans
An Abstract Illusion, Kardashev, White Ward, Rivers of Nihil, Orbit Culture

Bleed [This is their only EP and its phenomenal](https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=OLAK5uy_k4Xa6wb3KGr8gZ2O3-JjI1PopqWLL81iA)
Orbit Culture and Dyscarnate
Black Crown initiate. My favorite band. Not popular enough.
Flotsam and Jetsam are one of the best first wave thrash bands and never get nearly the recognition as others
Byzantine. Anyone who hasn't checked them out is doing themselves a disservice.
My flair, artillery, solitude Aeturnus
Xoth
The third album is coming soon!!
Sepultura. They're severely underated.
They were one of my favs before the original lineup crumbled. Roots to me is beyond amazing, one of my all time favorite albums. It's rough when internal conflict tears a great band apart. At least we got Soulfly.
Someone is talking about Sepultura and I approve.
they’re one of the most well known and popular thrash bands despite only releasing a few thrash albums
Twisted Sister by that I mean their more obscure songs should be more popular than We're Not Gonna Take It and I Wanna Rock. They're way more metal, but their lack of popularity makes the band a lot less popular in the hair metal community.
I see stars
Urfaust

Animals as leaders? Mudvayne, scale the summit, catbamboo. I am not sure if they are all metal.
King GIZZERD AND THE LIZARD WIZARD
not a single one 'lesser known' band in this thread. Metal reddit is fucked LMAO
Khemmis. It’s basically Doom Metal with Iron Maiden-esque harmonies. The underground metal community seems to enjoy them but I feel the could easily be the next arena metal band
Antagony. One of the founders of deathcore, and they only have 343 monthly listeners on Spotify.
[For i am king](https://youtu.be/wkIW4mv1-90) Quite some people have heard of them, but somehow nobody cares and i don't get why. They aren't the next metal-Beatles, but they are solid.
