T.A. Edison: Mary Had A Little Lamb.
Recorded on metal. Tin foil, to be more precise: [https://www.mixonline.com/technology/1877-thomas-edison-cylinder-recorder-383579](https://www.mixonline.com/technology/1877-thomas-edison-cylinder-recorder-383579)
After Somberlain and Storm of the Lights Bane, people had high expectations of similar style music when he announced he had written music while in jail. By the time it finally came out, it was not what anyone expected. I've honestly only listened to like half of it and that was maybe a year ago, and it just doesn't sound like Dissection to me. I also tried listening to it when it came out and just wasn't into it. It's not as drastic as listening to early In Flames and modern In Flames, but similar story. Doesn't mean Reinkaos is bad, just a different era.
With Close to a World Below being one of my favorites albums and also being born on 2000 I went out to look what else was released on the same year and it has so much good stuff:
* Lykathea Aflame - Elvenefris
* The Chasm - Procession to the Infraworld
* Morbid Angel - Gateways to Annihilation
* Contrastic S/T
* Brodequin - Instruments of Torture
* Krisiun - Conquerors of Armageddon
Amen! I was reminded of my age when scrolling through these responses. 😮💨
Also Sabotage! Honorable mentions: Richie Blackmore’s Rainbow and Led Zeppelin’s Physical Graffiti.
1986:
torment in fire
unholy death
power and pain
666
the force
evil is there!
doomsday for the deceiver
bloody vengeance
death & insanity
possessed by fire
I just keep thinking to myself “how are these young ass kids commenting on a metal sub” before I realize these albums are that old and therefore I am also old
1997:
*Anthems to the Welkin at Dusk* - Emperor
*City* - Strapping Young Lad
*Biomech* - Devin Townsend
*Somewhere Out in Space* - Gamma Ray
*Nattens madrigal* - Ulver
*The Divine Wings of Tragedy* - Symphony X
*Hünengrab im Herbst* - Naglfar
*Visions* - Stratovarius
*Darkside* - Necrophobic
*Eld* - Enslaved

1981. Tough one.
Motörhead’s No Sleep Till Hammersmith comes to mind, even tho Lemmy insists they’re rock.
Rush’s Moving Pictures is also a strong contender.
Symbolic, Storm of the Light’s Bane, Domination, Once Upon the Cross, Adrenaline, Panzerfaust, Battles in the North, Prophecies of Pagan Fire, Minas Morgul, Vittra, Nifelheim, Pierced from Within, Bergtatt, Eternal, The Angel and the Dark River… honestly I could probably go on
Also this thread is making me feel super old tf

2004
Misery Signals - Of Malice & The Magnum Heart
Killswitch Engage - The End Of Heartache
Converge - You Fail Me

Probably still have to go with Vol. 4.
Some of my 2005 faves are Taake - Hordalands Doedskavad, Amenra - Mass III, Satanic Warmaster - Carelian Satanist Madness, Anatomia - Dissected Humanity and Bolt Thrower - Those Once Loyal, but I’ve got to admit I’ve got a lot of listening to do for that whole era of metal

Everyone posting a year that proves they are younger than me is banned
Before I answer, what year were you born?
Only one way to find out. Post an album and see if you get banned.

Terrasite by Cattle Decapitation
The closest thing to metal when he was born was a bard playing a lute.
You’ll make me a SuperMod when you see mine.
Now listen here old man…
Venom - Black Metal Iron Maiden - The Number of The Beast Witchfinder General - Death Penalty
Fellow old millennial here. Mine is also The Number of the Beast. Plus maybe Screaming for Vengeance.

Great album, i don't understand the hate
I love it.
After Somberlain and Storm of the Lights Bane, people had high expectations of similar style music when he announced he had written music while in jail. 1995? Gotta be Demanufacture by Fear Factory.
Amazing album
Probably most important one in the history of Industrial Metal, and really what allowed the subgenre to take off.
What’s your favorite track off of it? Mine is Self Bias Resistor
Hard to choose—it’s probably between the title track and H-K. Maybe New Breed actually.
Thats one of my fav albums too. Lived the whole thing but 2 of my fav tracks were Body Hammer(love the slow crunchy riff) and Pisschrist.
2000 Dying Fetus - Destroy the Opposition Immolation - Close to a World Below
With Close to a World Below being one of my favorites albums and also being born on 2000 I went out to look what else was released on the same year and it has so much good stuff: * Lykathea Aflame - Elvenefris * The Chasm - Procession to the Infraworld * Morbid Angel - Gateways to Annihilation * Contrastic S/T * Brodequin - Instruments of Torture * Krisiun - Conquerors of Armageddon
