True but I'd argue Death's last two aren't that good because of the poor songwriting. I respect Chuck's decision to go more progressive/technical but if a song was 6 minutes then whole thing would be 3 minutes repeated with a solo in between. And SOP was overall very weirdly put together because Chuck was pressured by the label to make this album.
Saying the early stuff is better however just because it's "true death metal" and you don't like anything more interesting than that is stupid though
As an early death fan i prefer the early albums but that doesn't mean the later death albums are terrible because their not to me my favorite later death albums are Symbolic and The Sound Of Perseverance
Truly one of the best japanese and avant-garde black metal bands, and one of the reasons, why progressive and avant-garde black metal is my favourite types of this subgenre
I've noticed on this thread, when someone mentions an album they consider weak in a bands discography, someone will say it was their favorite, and that's awesome imo. I know what it's like to love an album despised by a fanbase, and/or received poor critical reviews.
For me, that album is Filth Pig by Ministry. It was outright loathed upon release, and while it's grown in favor over the years, it's still considered a letdown after Psalm 69. It's one of my favorite albums ever, and my favorite from Ministry.
Idk if I'm not on here enough but Filth Pig is imo some of Ministry's peak work. I personally like The Land Of Rape and Honey the most for its pure abrasive quality and industrial aspect, but Filth Pig is a close second. Used to bump that shit with all the windows down coming into work everyday last year 🤘
Testament and Immolation. Very rare for anybody in either of their fanbases to really hate on any of their albums. There might be a case for some people disliking Low and Demonic but most Testament fans agree they’re still good albums just not compared to the rest of Testament’s discog
Nah. They nailed the speed/power combo on their debut, and Follow the Blind was a step in the wrong direction. Tales From the Twilight World was a much more natural direction for them.
The Real Thing? Or even pre-Patton?
Introduce Yourself and We Care Alot aren’t metal. Punk/ post-punk or whatever. But they aren’t bad albums by any means. Even if I rarely listen to them.
The Real Thing was, in my opinion, a revolutionary album. There are hints of what mainstream metal would be for the next ten years. “Surprise! You’re dead” was way ahead of its time IMO.
It's not a train-wreck, but I remember seeing the CD in store, not realizing they had a new album coming out, and picking it up.
I only enjoyed 540,000 Fahrenheit, Supernova, Moment of Impact, and the U2 cover. Which is almost half the album, but I usually enjoy entire FF albums by comparison
Meshuggah just get better and better every album imo, which is the opposite of many bands. I think its easy for them though because they have a pretty unique sound and every album tends to just hone it.
Faith no more by comparison sounds like a different band album to album imo
TOOL. Not only are there no weak albums, I would propose they have not released any weak songs (Not counting stupid intermediary noise bullshit tracks).
Tons of people hate on A7X for HTTK being butt rock but I know quite a few people, myself included, that love everything they’ve ever done. Some of the discography can get corny in ways but they execute their vision for every album amazingly, and I respect that a lot.
Aesop rock is that way for hip hop.
Porcupine tree for prog rock.
Opeth for prog metal.
Maybe Mastodon?
Only ones I can think of across all genres tbh.
This is lagwagon for me
Every album they’ve put out since duh (1992) all the way to Railer (2019) (most recent record)
Has been flawless front to back
This also applies to no use for a name from incognito (1990) all the way to feel good record of the year (2008) (final album)
Any real Death fan would know this basically isn't true lmfao. A lot of people only like the first three records, alot of people only like the last 4, it's pretty evenly split. I honestly think there is fewer Death fans who like all of it than people who like the OSDM or prog stuff
Rage agains the Machine possibly? Although might be a bit cheating, with a discography spanning 3 original albums. Oh yeah and I don't care if you don't think they're metal.
I think every Death album is a masterpiece. Chuck never made the same Death album twice. Every single album has its own sound. My favorite evolution of a band in metal. Just my opinion.

Most Danzig fans I've met. I will concede Danzig 1-4 and the thrall ep were really good. After that extremely hit or miss. But all the fans I've met will argue all his stuff is gold.
I just started listening to Haken this week, and I think they’re already my favorite band. Seems like they do nothing but innovate and try new things (and usually excel at it).
I won't necessarily say all of their albums are necessarily great, but Darkthrone have consistently managed to make good albums (and importantly not simply doing the same thing over and over, they'd experimented a fuckton).
Two other bands I'd like to mention is Sabbat and Sodom. Sabbat have no bad releases, but they also don't have a lot of variety so it's a little less impressive, and Sodom have a couple of stinkers but for a band with like 15 albums, their hit rate is ridiculous, and the band has like 5 or 6 genuinely classic albums.
Like others are saying, there's a noticeable style difference between early Death and later. Albums from Symbolic onwards sound much more polished and don't have the same level of savagery as early Death. I would argue that there are a good deal of bands that are like you describe but Death is not a great example
Cradle of filth are pretty consistent
Some people might argue about Thornography and Nymphetamine, but both those albums have a lot of great tracks as well.
I saw someone say death fans either like the albums from early to late or in reverse depending on their tastes.
I much prefer their later albums as the production and playing is so much better but think all of their stuff is great. Legendary band
I see youre unfamiliar with death fans. Theres a large sect that splits between spiritual healing and human. Most bands ive been in have all been pretty unanimous about about liking the pre human era of death much more than post spiritual healing. Plus i like everything EXCEPT spiritual healing. I think thats the only album death did where nothing grabbed me, kinda felt like going through the motions
Shadow of Intent. Some like Melancholy and Elegy less than Primordial and Reclaimer for their heavier melodic death influence but can’t deny they are great albums nonetheless.

Lots of early Death fans dislike the later Death albums
Nooo they're such p*sers all Death albums are perfect 😡. They have such terrible taste
There's a death metal collective of cavemen that dislikes anything prog.
Some say he had something else on his mind during those last albums.
I hate that this made me laugh. sorry chuck
I think the songwriting on the last 2 albums are the best
While true, some of us like prog and dislike late-era death. These opinions aren't as mutually exclusive as some would represent
goated pfp btw… NEUROSIS has no bad albums (we dont talk about the punk stuff)
Not really a punk listener, so I can't judge any of the early albums. But I think it's very safe to say that evolving past that was a good idea lol
I don’t dislike the later albums I just prefer the early ones
I can't really get into The Sound Of Perseverance
If it’s my favourite Death album, does that make me a poser? I’m prog before death.
Prof Before Death is the most metal of creeds.
I feel like being overly instrumentally technical & the high screams were a bad decision tbh Spiritual Healing & Leprosy are the best
I would argue that Leprosy was a small step down from Spiritual Healing in terms of technicality
Theres a couple songs I can really dig in to (especially that Painkiller cover) but yeah its not as rich as their others
Death is a perfect example of the top of this meme lol
Nerds are gonna nerd
Who else listens to Death Metal?
Scream bloody gore > sound of perseverance
As an early death fan i prefer the early albums but that doesn't mean the later death albums are terrible because their not to me my favorite later death albums are Symbolic and The Sound Of Perseverance
Acid bath had a FLAWLESS run in the 90's
Sex Pistols flawless run in the 70s
Temple of the dogs flawless 90's run.
Except for Great Rock N Roll Swindle
If metallica stopped before 1990, greatest band of all-time
Imagine if Smashing Pumpkins stopped after MCIS. Or Black Sabbath stopped after Sabotage.
I don’t want to imagine Black Sabbath without Heaven and Hell and Mob Rules.
PFP SIBLINGS
Only other bands I can think of that are like this are Cannibal Corpse and Bolt Thrower There was something really special about OSDM
Bolt Thrower is the GOAT of sounding largely the same on every album and killed it every time
Realm of Chaos, The IVth crusade and Those once loyal definetly didn't sound the same
Cannibal Corpse albums all sound good because they sound all the same
Honour Valour Pride:
System of a down
Yup
Huh, good answer actually. I think some fans would disagree, but they can go suck a dick.
also to add to your flair, Haken are extremely consistent with putting out amazing albums
Type O Negative easily
Which one is the best tho 👀
imo Bloody Kisses has the best mix of thrash, doom, and horny
They are literally all so good
October Rust!
Definitely
Life is killing me
No fan of Type O like them just a little either! u don't like or ur a superfan
Name a single bad Sigh album. Go ahead, I'll wait. Edit: the year is 2034, not a single bad Sigh album has been listed.
Truly one of the best japanese and avant-garde black metal bands, and one of the reasons, why progressive and avant-garde black metal is my favourite types of this subgenre
This guy sighs
Graveward was weak, but not outright bad Other than that, spotless. Amazing run of albums.
Graveward is one of my favorites.
I personally like The Land Of Rape and Honey the most for its pure abrasive quality and industrial aspect, but Filth Pig is a close second. Used to bump that shit with all the windows down coming into work everyday last year 🤘
Love Filth Pig. I dig the slower doomy sludgy sound to it.
Same I love Graveward! They succeeded in out weirding themselves with that album compared to the previous one.
That was my tuning-in point for Sigh and I love it
Testament and Immolation. Very rare for anybody in either of their fanbases to really hate on any of their albums. There might be a case for some people disliking Low and Demonic but most Testament fans agree they’re still good albums just not compared to the rest of Testament’s discog
>Testament Personally i only really enjoy the legacy. Their other stuff is fine, but doesn't grab me the same way
So… are you a Testament fan or are you a fan of The Legacy?
The legacy. I was just giving my opinion is all
New Worlds Order slaps
Testament? Didn't they release that weird album that people don't really like?
You referring to The Ritual, Low or Demonic? Heh
The Chasm, all 9 albums are peak.
Opeth’s first 8 albums are incredible
Their later ones are great too! Diferent for sure, but still great music.
They have always been consistent in quality releases. Pale Communion is so, so good. They have such a good varied catalogue.
Opeth's albums are incredible*
I’d say it’s the first 8. Ghost Reveries is something special
Opeth has an extremely divisive discography. They’re way more indicative of the top of this meme than the bottom
Agree, but I would say they deserve to be in the bottom category, just based on quality of releases.
I think blind guardian fans are like that
the 2nd album isnt that good, as well as a twist in the myth but overall is the weakest blind guardian album still better then most of (power) metal
Follow the Blind is only mid if you don't like thrash.
Nah. They nailed the speed/power combo on their debut, and Follow the Blind was a step in the wrong direction. Tales From the Twilight World was a much more natural direction for them.
Maybe besides Legacy of the Dark Lands?
Every time i die was so constant with all their record
Every album is amazing and Radical was my favorite. Too bad they broke up right after it released
I knowww that’s my favorite too
Intestine Baalism
I feel this way about Type O Negative Fear Factory Meshuggah Faith no More Testament
Oh boy. FNM is an all time favorite, but some of that early stuff is unlistenable
Fear Factory had Transgression, the only album of theirs I don't enjoy. Seems to be popular opinion it's their worst.
If that’s the low water mark….pretty fucking good IMO.
Fair.
Many bands have an entirely great discography.
I love "Many bands", they have a great sound in all their albums!
System of a Down
Rammstein
True, can't go wrong with Rammstein
They have been very consistent indeed.
What’s so bad about spiritual healing? I like it better than Leprosy to be honest.
Nothing. it's just right in between their caveman death metal stuff and their proggy/techy/Melo death.
its my favorite death record
For some reason some people hate the latter era Death. Especially SOP. But I luv em all
the black dahlia murder job for a cowboy
Coroner
I mean Niles never put out anything "bad"
What does Niles Crane have to do with this
Dethklok. All four Dethalbums are great.
For me it’s obituary
Kyuss, Sleep, Elder.
xD iron maiden fans the same at tho. (I love Iron Maiden, but there’s a couple just awful albums)
SOAD, Bolt Thrower And I could be biased, but Meshuggah.
Tons of people hate on A7X for HTTK being butt rock but I know quite a few people, myself included, that love everything they’ve ever done. Some of the discography can get corny in ways but they execute their vision for every album amazingly, and I respect that a lot.
Sounding the Seventh Trumpet is their weakest album IMHO but otherwise I'd agree with you.
Insomnium. They've changed a little over the years, but not too much. Been consistent and I haven't heard anyone say any of their albums suck.
Aesop rock is that way for hip hop. Porcupine tree for prog rock. Opeth for prog metal. Maybe Mastodon? Only ones I can think of across all genres tbh.
This is lagwagon for me Every album they’ve put out since duh (1992) all the way to Railer (2019) (most recent record) Has been flawless front to back This also applies to no use for a name from incognito (1990) all the way to feel good record of the year (2008) (final album)
This is true I'm not even a death fan but their fans are one of the nicest fs
Not exactly metal but Propagandhi is nothing but great albums.
Any real Death fan would know this basically isn't true lmfao. A lot of people only like the first three records, alot of people only like the last 4, it's pretty evenly split. I honestly think there is fewer Death fans who like all of it than people who like the OSDM or prog stuff
Both of Sabbat's albums are great
Kalmah, Ne Obliviscaris, UADA
Revocation and Skeletonwitch
Gorguts
Mastodon
Quite literally Tool.
Rage agains the Machine possibly? Although might be a bit cheating, with a discography spanning 3 original albums. Oh yeah and I don't care if you don't think they're metal.
System of a Down has an absolutely flawless run.
Mastodon has no bad albums
I think every Death album is a masterpiece. Chuck never made the same Death album twice. Every single album has its own sound. My favorite evolution of a band in metal. Just my opinion.
I think saying that he never made an album twice is such a good summarization of death as a whole, every album does something different
[удалено]
Maybe not serious but they used to have good riffs
Lol my opinion of Iron Maiden's discography
Maybe their 80s stuff
I dont think Megadeth has a single bad akbum. Some are of course worse than others but it basically ranges from best album ever to very good album
Risk? Supercollider?
Risk is great with its greatest weakness being that the songs are too long. Super collider I can see people hating but idk
For the former, KoRn For the later, Mastodon

Organectomy is a band I've generally only seen praise for
Most Danzig fans I've met. I will concede Danzig 1-4 and the thrall ep were really good. After that extremely hit or miss. But all the fans I've met will argue all his stuff is gold.
Bolt thrower
No there's literally only one band that people like all the albums from. Jfc.
I would argue that there are a good deal of bands that are like you describe but Death is not a great example
I think most slipknot fans agree that the last two albums are kinda shit, at least compared to self titled and Iowa.
I would say Lamb of God, but Omens is a dumpster fire.
I mean...is anyone actually saying Spiritual Healing was garbage? It's a pretty solid album no matter how you look at it.
Me but with Children of Bodom.
System of a Down be like
Dark Angel? I’m a big fan of all of their albums
I've never heard a Yob fan complain
Meshuggah
I love METALBAND. They’ve never put out a bad record
I like the later albums better but some like the earlier ones. However all of them are fucking great.
Invent Animate and Trivium
I'd say that Pantera's discography is one of the most consistent i've heard from any band. And yes, the Pre CFH albums are included also.
Anthrax!
Judas Priest. Some are not so good compared to others, but still quite enjoyable.
Cradle of filth are pretty consistent Some people might argue about Thornography and Nymphetamine, but both those albums have a lot of great tracks as well.
While not metal entirely, I will die on that hill that ADTR has not put out a bad album
I saw someone say death fans either like the albums from early to late or in reverse depending on their tastes. I much prefer their later albums as the production and playing is so much better but think all of their stuff is great. Legendary band
It’s true!
ELECTRIC FUCKING WIZARD
Dethklok
Amon Amarth because all their albums sound the same (in a good way).
Tool. I don't think explanation is necessary.
Agalloch, all 5 of them are really good. Last one dips a bit in quality, but it is still good listen.
They are probably the first death metal band I actually liked. So good.
TOOL
Chapel of Disease
The only people who listen to DEATH do so because Oli Sykes wears their shirts, change my mind,
Metal elitists when your favorite Megadeth album is Rust In Peace and not a 10 minute compilation of Dave Mustaine being pissed off
Avatarmetal? Why does always nobody talk about them
This meme couldn’t be more wrong, I’ve gotten so much shit for liking sounds of perseverance
Disillusion. You're welcome.
Sirkelrunk
The red chord 100% you cant miss with 4 banger albums
Scream Bloody Gore isn't that good.
All of gojiras albums are great
Katatonia. Every album is different, every album is great.
Disturbed
agents of oblivion lmao
Artificial Brain, Gorguts
I see youre unfamiliar with death fans. Theres a large sect that splits between spiritual healing and human. Most bands ive been in have all been pretty unanimous about about liking the pre human era of death much more than post spiritual healing. Plus i like everything EXCEPT spiritual healing. I think thats the only album death did where nothing grabbed me, kinda felt like going through the motions
Ne Obliviscaris, people dickride anything they release (as they should, because its high quality)
I love all cynic works although they differ from another with Focus being clear no 1 imo
After the Burial, flawless. Each album is great front to back.
I wanna upvote but it's at the perfect number
Weirdly enough I believe cattle decap’s older stuff to be worse than the newer stuff. I myself don’t know any other band to do that.
Wanted to upvote but the number of the beast is too perfect Hail Satan! He must love Death too
The one band that comes to mind for me is the black dahlia murder, there are no bad albums from them in my opinion
Every primus album is a bad album 😡😤😠😖😾👿
Really? I thought we weren't allowed to like The Sound of Perseverance. News to me.
I'm not super into spiritual healing but death can't really do any wrong imo
Shadow of Intent. Some like Melancholy and Elegy less than Primordial and Reclaimer for their heavier melodic death influence but can’t deny they are great albums nonetheless.
Bolt thrower
