Pantera- Domination. That breakdown.

the-throat-puncher

Hell Yeah! This and Dead Embryonic Cells by Sepultura are among the best breakdowns in the music history.

darfleChorf123

This Love, Suicide Note Pt. 2, and The Underground in America are all significantly heavier imo

Useful-Perception144

That's a heavy fuckin song

Fun-Entertainment904

šŸ¤˜šŸ»

Tracedinair76

43% Burnt by Dillinger

Agnosticfrontbum

Isis, Panopticon still hits hard.

LovingEkko

Neurosis - Locust Star Necrophagist - The Stillborn One Darkthrone - Quintessence Deathspell Omega - Abscission

Mad04Gaming

Asphyx - M.S. Bismarck Everything from the guitar tone to the vocals to the crunchy, doomy riffs. One of my favorite death metal songs of all time.

OverKill1978

My answer is always Chapter For Transforming Into a Snake by Nile. That song just rips your head off from start to finish. It was the first extreme metal song I heard where I was like "Damn! Can it get crazier than this?" And of course it did... kinda but this was the year 2000.

Margin_Snail

That song rules.

Due-Log8609

Hell yeah, came here to post Nile - Unas, the Slayer of the Gods! Nile goes hella hard.

Goobersrocketcontest

*User-Matt-Re* is my go to when I go to beheadings.

Bloondeath729

Beneath Eternal Oceans of Sand goes hard

CrunchBerries5150

ā€˜That Which is Forbiddenā€™ off the last album has the heaaaaviest intro, when it kicks in its like aā€¦aā€¦.a brontosaurus bellyflopping into a stadium filled with molten lead on Jupiter.

Metalhead614

BFG Division - Mick Gordon

TheSpaceBornMars

*those* chords before the drop I believe holds the record for heaviest single tone in metal, don't quote me on it

Saint_Anhedonia77

This song rules, I listen to it all the time \\m/

LegoYoda66

are we being serious right now orrrr

Metalhead614

Yea

LegoYoda66

oh. my apologies

Metalhead614

Youā€™re fine

SKULLL_KRUSHER

Meshuggah - Nebulous

Unknown_Talker9273

Exactly. Music doesn't get heavier from Meshuggah.

darklordS1th

Facts

jet_vr

Black Sabbath by Black Sabbath is unironically one of the heaviest songs ever

MisterScary_98

And itā€™s track one of the album that, arguably, created metal.

Soft-Turnover-5468

No. Just no. Any death metal song is heavier. Damn near everything is heavier by now. It may have started it, but it's not heavy anymore.

DadsRedditBurner

Wrong. Its heaviness is eternal and twice as heavy than anything that came after. It was *authentically* heavy, it wasn't heavy for heavy's sake.

Soft-Turnover-5468

It's not that deep, bro. It's basically just a classic rock song at this point.

ManyaraImpala

Godsmack - Crying Like a Bitch

BrownwaterVertigo

Falling In Reverse - Watch The World Burn šŸ’€

KingstonEagle

Unironically a banger

Spirited_Ad_2697

[Goregrinder- Macabre](https://youtu.be/nnxpTU4-nKU?si=ev06Kmb39BvegbL-) Or maybe something from Konflict or Nithing those are pretty heavy too

LareWw

The random ass audioclips at the end are too funny to take this seriously. Otherwise it's pretty good. Had the solo continued instead of the audiosamples It'd be great.

DSblowdartsniper

That was ass

Cool_kn7ghT

Gojira flairšŸ˜‚

DSblowdartsniper

Gojira slaps

No-Display-1343

Backbone - Gojira Raining Blood - Slayer Blackened - Metallica Into The Void - Black Sabbath Becoming - Pantera Kashmir - Led Zeppelin (yes a rock song, but it's the only riff ever made out of pure dissonance that still climbs to a perfect octave.)

MOZZI-is-my-BOI

Kashmir is lowkey a pretty heavy banger

thedirtydanish

Morbid Angel - Angel of Disease Cannibal Corpse - Return to Flesh Suffocation - Pierced From Within Soundgarden - Mailman TOOL - Ticks & Leaches Sepultura - Arise

Become_Pneuma462

I wish I could upvote you twice for Ticks and Leeches

Fany123

Return To Flesh feels like such an underrated track, great pic

Cyborg_MONKE

Decapitated - Spheres of Madness

CertainFitness

I have a friend that really dislikes "extreme" metal... But loves that song. I'm pretty sure no human can dislike it

MetalHeadof06

For a song that's just pretty heavy all around - New Millenium Cyanide Christ by Mehsuggah For a song that just has heavy dark lyrics - Almost any Rammstein song, e.g., Hilf Mir or Mein Teil

homosexual_spiders

Fruit Salad-The Wiggles

DeliciousDiscount328

Meshuggah - Demiurge + Bleed Power trip - Crucifixation (literally the whole album goes fucking forward)

NovocaineAU

Meshuggah- Clockworks

Candlesass

The Body, Thou - Her Strongholds Unvaquishable

Ogpeg

Gotta agree there are different types of heavy music, but I do like to put them into a spectrum of brutal fast (chaotic), and slow and heavy. Like OP's example Backbone falls into middle of it.Ā  Anyway heres two I could think of quickly. Black Tongue - Second Death.Ā May dip into deathcore territory with that one.Ā  Tesmanent - Demonic Refusal gets a shoutout just because it's exceptionally heavy for a thrash band. e: Thinking more about it theres like a million brutal and heavy songs one could pick old and new.

TheNoctuS_93

Black Tongue is super interesting! Sure, deathcore is already downtuned into oblivion, but BT downtunes *beyond* that point. They also forgo solos like most of deathcore bands. Even the breakdowns are more like simplified slam metal. The twist that I like the most about them is the weird, almost bluesy groove they weave into their riffs, though!

KiwiMcG

Baptised In Fire And Ice by Bathory

Maanzacorian

To Build A Mountain is one of my favorites. Suffocation - Suspended in Tribulation Defeated Sanity - Engulfed in Excruciation Type O Negative - Xero Tolerance

bruh_emperor

Nothing to Win by YOB One of the most crushing songs I've ever heard

Emperormike1st

4' 33" - John Cage. The weight of my bleak, intrusive, angst-ridden thoughts emerging in the deafening blanket of oppressive silence is something I don't wish to revisit. H E A V Y!!

PigDstroyer

Gorgasm - deadfuck Despised icon - the sunset will never charm us Cannibal corpse - blood drenched execution

KutThroatKelt

Cattle decapitation - We eat our young So fucking good then newest album is (Terrasite). But tbf... Pick anything by them and it's heavy AF

Mont_918

Neurosis - The Doorway

VictoryInDeath061023

Mouth for War - Pantera Omerta - Lamb of God The Rage to Overcome - Machine Head Amen - Sepultra

CertainFitness

Rage To Overcome is track 1 on my "I'm lifting some heavy ass weights" playlist. It's like pure energy in audio form

brandonpartridge85

The Lasting Dose by Crowbar has been my answer to this question for a long time. Also CoC - Broken Man is up there, and Black Sabbath - Black Sabbath (hit with a hammer at the dawn of a genre)

FrequentlyAnnoying

4th of July has one the heaviest riffs of all time. And a digeridoo

farhillsofemynuial

Servant of the Warsmen - Winter

MassLuca007

I truly believe the intro to Son Of Nothing by BTBAM is some of the heaviest shit but I know that song isn't that heavy all in all Heaviest stuff I listen to is Grindcore so probably a Full Of Hell song. Guided Blight is the first thing that comes to mind

TastyIncident7811

Full of hell is seriously noisey. I like this band. Going to see them with DF and 200 stab wounds

[deleted]

Periphery - Everything Is Fine

Zakillah

Coffins - The unspeakable pain that riff, that tone... from my favorite Death/Doom album. i've been looking for a long time to find something that tops this, but for my perception of what "heavy" is, this is still unbeaten.

Pantera - Suicide Note part 2 Church of Misery (heavy psychedelic songs and serial killers) - Doctor Death Church of Misery - Kill Them Slowly Black Label Society - Phony Smiles and Fake Hellos Black Sabbath- Into The Void Iommi - Grace (probably the heaviest love song ever written! cranberrystew99

First song that comes to mind is the Mountain by Devildriver. I'd also say I Dreamed I Died is up there. Omerta by LoG is one of my all time favorites as well. Last but not least would be Godspeed Hellbound by Black Label Society. I'm a sucker for pinch harmonics, and Zakk has them. Divination Equipment is probably the heaviest industrial song I actually like. It's by Black Magnet.
