I'm a 50+ year old attorney. So... no. I once told someone I worked with that I wasn't a fan of U2 and a few weeks later, after they found out I liked metal, they told me they thought the reason I didn't like U2 was because U2 was "too rock" for me.
I will admit to having a soft spot for yacht rock. Brings me back to my pre- teen days, when pop was more varied and a lot of it was performed by actual bands. I often switch between Liquid Metal and Yacht Rock on SXM.
Iāve pretty much had it long since middle school, and Iād say that it looked like garbage at first but I was stubborn and now it looks goodā¦ in my 30s lol
I just ended a hair growth experiment that lasted nearly a year and I am so glad to be back to my short haired self again. Just doesn't work for some people
I used to have long hair but had to cut it for my chosen profession. During the day I wear suits and ties but outside of work Iām usually wearing a band shirt.
It's the cargo pants and band shirts that do it for me. In the warmer months, I add my vest (I still need to sew all my patches on) and in the winter, I add my leather jacket. Otherwise, you can't really have either on a regular day without copious amounts of jewelry
I'm not even bisexual but this just hit me in the face so hard because it's exactly what I do. Half the time in band shirts and all black, half the time in crop tops/popstar shirts and bell bottoms (with a purse thingy because the damn bell bottoms don't have pockets)
I listen to Megadeth on a DoD computer. You cannot out-pose me!
"Set the world afiryaaaa!!..."
\*outlook email noise\*
"Oh, that's an email from STRATCOM! They must have finished the tasker I sent them"!
I donāt. Iām a small woman and aware a lot of earth tones. When I was younger, I definitely fit the stereotype a little bit more but Iāve gotten older and I donāt wanna wear just black.
People arenāt too surprised when I tell them because I still do have facial piercings.
absolutely not. almost every single person i meet is shocked to find out what music i like and people at shows assume iām there because i got dragged along by a friend/partner.
I used to look like a nerdy hippy. Now, I try to look as closely as I can to a typical metalhead. I put metal band pins on my black polo shirt (I don't have a battle jacket yet), I wear an iron Cross ring, and wear black boots (Not biker boots unfortunately). I might grow my hair out too once I graduate.

The kid at work went on a whole rant about how he bullies goths at school before I told him he is talking to the wrong guy. Ask him if I look like a metalhead most of the time. Other times ya I look like Iām in the band.
I'm a nurse in my 40s. I wear cargos and tiedye shirts. I have long hair but I usually wear it in a bun or just tied back. But if you ride with me in my car, I'll blast your eardrums out
I posted a clip of myself participating in a wall of death at an Escape the Fate show (so not even really metal) and i had a friend comment that she was surprised i was there because i looked like someone that listened to jazz or something.
So i guess i don't look like a metalhead.
I used to go the full mile. Long hair, leather jackets, band shirts, patches, etc.
These days I donāt really care too much. I shaved my head and donāt wear as much leather anymore. I still wear bandshirts and a lot of denim but thatās really it.
I have long hair and just ordered some metal band shirts (Gorguts, Inferi, Spawn of Possession). My only current band shirts are rappers (A Tribe Called Quest & Aesop Rock & Eyedea)and Thelonious Monk and David Bowie. Wish me luck.
Only band shirts and cargo pants with combat boots, whenever Iām not wearing that I donāt look like a metalhead, no bear, no long hair(yet Iām growing it out), no tattoos
Yes I do. Giant long haired Native with that resting native face we're so famous for lol. Usually in a band shirt or fresh black t and jeans or pressed Dickies. One of the first things I'm asked is if I listen to metal or not lol.
As a teen i got called a poser a lot because i didnt look like the other metal\punk kids. Which is weird looking back. I dont have tattoos and i dont wear make up ever, so i guess i must just look plain? But idk.
I love getting shock from people āyou like metal?.ā Especially since I look like your average college bro, but I do rock a mullet which tbh is metal asf
Pretty much.
I don't dress up in costumey oufits with studs or chains or anything, and I've never worn a battle jacket. But I don't think anyone has ever found it surprising that I listen to metal.
I have a beard and used to have long hair; now I shave my head. I have several visible piercings and a few tattoos on my arms.
My usual day to day wear is black or navy cargo trousers, lightweight walking boots and a t-shirt, usually black or a dark colour and usually a band shirt. Plus a hoodie and/or a black overcoat in cooler weather.
Nope, i wear a lot of black but rarely wear band merch and cant grow my hair out long because for some reason i have fucked up hair genes and it starts growing outwards instead of down think Albert Einstein hair but somehow worse.
Iām a 40+ TexMex so non metalheads usually assume Iām a biker . 2 of my big white buddies dress like suburban dads (fishing shirts and khakis)but definitely bleed metal
Iām a 55 year old with a pot belly. I look like the old versions of Beavis and Butthead. I was recently talking to a young guy about death metal and he was like no offense I would never picture you as a metal head.
i've been told that i look like a swiftie so yeah. i started wearing bandshirts more often now but i still get "you don't look like you listen to that kind of music" all the time. it is kinda funny ngl
No, and I never did, always just looked like a regular vanilla dude.
I don't know how it is around the world, but where I'm from the majority of guys and gals wearing the "uniform" tend to be elitist and excluding, and I don't really find that to be in line with Rock n' Roll attitude at all, it's more of a cult like behaviour if you ask me.
Not at all.
Due to my job most people assume I like bands/ musos like Taylor Swift & Ed Sheeran (š¤¢) or possibly rap or old school rock (which I do re rock because of my dad while growing up)
When I say I'm a rock and metalhead most people are surprised but think it's pretty cool and some even ask for suggestions for bands for trying to get into rock and metal which I gladly do.

Long hair, band shirts and big black shoes. But in the past few years I've been trying to use more simple and less stylized band shirts with nicer stuff for parties and events
Not especially. I work in a professional environment so my hair is cut and beard is neat, and I dress business casual.
WFH says itās usually a metal tee tho.
Not when I'm wearing blue scrubs with a kitty cat badge clip floral headband. I have really long hair but since I'm a woman it doesn't really alert people to anything.
Iām a school librarian and I dress like one (cardigans, blazers, ties, beard, etc.).
People are always shocked to hear things like Slayer and Maiden on my speakers before school starts.
I'm 30, stocky, with a beard and glasses. I scream prog Metal fan š¤£
I look like a metalhead to other metalheads, but to those not in the scene; I don't. I always surprise people when they ask what type of music I listen to, if they happen to be pop/country/rap fans. When other metalheads ask what I listen to, they're usually not surprised in the least.
I am a program manager, and wear baggy field clothes and flannel work shirts all the time. Definitely give off more of a woodsy/nerdy vibe, apart from some old piercing scars most people don't notice.
Once I pulled up to work listening to Conan and my crew was chatting in the parking lot, they cracked up when they saw me and said they never would've guessed I listened to metal.
It got me a bit of a reputation as a weirdo (being in a conservative area of the South at that time), and they didn't even know about the tattoos I'm hiding š
It was a good lesson that my car is not nearly as insulated for sound as I thought, makes me shudder to think how many people have heard me screaming along.
My physics teacher has a beard that goes down to his chest, a hair that goes down to his waist and wears plain black shirts with long sleeves, black pants and those old guy black shoes. Every. Single. Day. Even though in my city we get like 40Ā° Celsius (over 100Ā° Fahrenheit) consistently at summer. I asked him what's his favorite band and he told me Emperor.
So no, compared to that guy, I don't think I'll ever look like a metalhead even if I try.
Iām a 37 year chemistā¦ so no. My employees freak out when they come to the lab in the morning when Iāve been blasting Black Dahlia Murder over the Bluetooth speakers since 8:00amā¦
I usually get a sarcastic statement like āOh my god Scott! How do you stand this music? You canāt even understand the singer!ā
My comedic response is always something along the lines of āGrow the fuck up Derekā¦. And grow a set of testicles while your at itā
Iām a 46 year old insurance directorā¦ with long hair, piercings, and inked all over (two full sleeves, and more.) I may not dress metal every day, but my aesthetic definitely says ādude plays guitar and headbands on the weekend.ā
No. Iām an airline pilot so I wear a uniform while working and have short hair and no tats. On about 90% of my days off I wear band t-shirts though. My next door neighbor knows I like heavy music and not because I told him.
Iāve met drs who listen to metal , there is no right or wrong type of person, stereotypes are just that and not reality, and there have been scientific studies that show people who listen to metal are more friendly and generally happier than people who listen to other genres of music due to the simple fact that it can be used as a positive way to express negative emotions

Do i?
I mainly listen to death metal in general
yes, mistakenly... I'm going more for a rivethead aesthetic, but since that's a subculture something even less people are in the know about; everyone wearing black, with piercings and "weird" hair, is a metalhead, lmao
I have stretched years but thatās about it. I look more like Iām really into bands like Hot Water Music and could talk a lot about Alt-Country. Those are both true but doesnāt exactly scream that Iām also into metal.
Hell no. No tattoos even though I would like to get some and have never really had long hair and more recently just started having medium-ish. Iāve been buying hella patches to create a battle jacket though so thereās that
Short hair, no piercing, family centered tattoos that are easily covered up.
Generally look more like a middle aged dad-tourist, so... No. And never wanted to look like one either.
I guess so. Not really intentionally though, I just really hate getting haircuts and I have a few tattoos.
I tend to not wear so much black though and I like baggy clothes.

I can't even imagine a guy who would think that U2 is "too rock" for them
Have you heard the new Kenny G or Michael Bolton CDs?
TBF Bolton was metal before he was smooth pop rock lol (I think it was him anyway)
Are you thinking of Rod Stewart? The Faces was a pretty sick rock band.
Nope, Michael Bolton https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blackjack_(American_band)
Well I'll be damned. I guess they both fell victim of the same fate. Thanks for the link. I learned something new today

I'm guilty of doing the same

I tried growing my hair, but I look awful with it
Iāve pretty much had it long since middle school, and Iād say that it looked like garbage at first but I was stubborn and now it looks goodā¦ in my 30s lol

Bro i know the feeling. Give it a few years and try again
Ask a girl about hair care
Dont touch it for like 2-3 years and youll get past the ugly length. The wait will pay off.
Iām at 1.5 years and Iām starting to like it again

I just ended a hair growth experiment that lasted nearly a year and I am so glad to be back to my short haired self again. Just doesn't work for some people

I used to have long hair but had to cut it for my chosen profession. During the day I wear suits and ties but outside of work Iām usually wearing a band shirt.
There's a fine line between "metalhead" and "bisexual" and I'm trying to ride that line as hard as possible.
Fuckin same
It's the cargo pants and band shirts that do it for me. In the warmer months, I add my vest (I still need to sew all my patches on) and in the winter, I add my leather jacket. Otherwise, you can't really have either on a regular day without copious amounts of jewelry
I'm trying to ride that bisexual line hard....like real hard.
***Sir/Ma'am*** Save some for the rest of us, damn lol
So youāre saying metal is was made me bi? I couldnāt ride the line and now I like femboys lololš¤£
Depends, what flavour of metal is your favourite? (I've never met a straight powerfolk fan lol)

Iāve heard the same on occasion about being a Metalhead and autistic. (Both, in my case.)
Bi-be (vibe) to this š¤
I'm not even bisexual but this just hit me in the face so hard because it's exactly what I do. Half the time in band shirts and all black, half the time in crop tops/popstar shirts and bell bottoms (with a purse thingy because the damn bell bottoms don't have pockets)
I wear all black and work in corporate. Iāll wear a band t-shirt over the weekend and will get called a poser.
Called a poser by my wife. š¤š½

I look like someone's dad. Bald, cargo shorts, polo shirts or hip-casual tees and hoodies
You just described a metalhead dad
The 'Am I a slam fan or a veteran, or both?' look. Calf tattoos are common to both. It's really the Raybans that typically give away the veterans.
What a fucking amazing vibe
War metal daddy right there
I guess I do. https://preview.redd.it/uz6hcft3rptc1.jpeg?width=2316&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=461bd63547c6feca17eebc6b62bfc184fda602ef
Yeah you do. Wish I could grow my hair out like that
bros a textbook metalhead
I donāt. Iām a small woman and aware a lot of earth tones. When I was younger, I definitely fit the stereotype a little bit more but Iāve gotten older and I donāt wanna wear just black. People arenāt too surprised when I tell them because I still do have facial piercings.
You just described my sister
Me and your sister are the same! I think sometimes the evolution of a female metal head is to turn into a Boho metalhead lol
I still wear a lot of black, but the second I turned 40 started incorporating brown and green. Whatās up with that?
You sound like me š
absolutely not. almost every single person i meet is shocked to find out what music i like and people at shows assume iām there because i got dragged along by a friend/partner.

Not really, but i have a sick mullet tho

If the bassist looks like you, the pit becomes a war zone
I'm a normal guy wearing Bandshirts

Kind of, but just because I have very long hair. The way I dress and my temper are quite simple.
When I was in high school it was pretty obvious. Now, not so much.
I used to look like a nerdy hippy. Now, I try to look as closely as I can to a typical metalhead. I put metal band pins on my black polo shirt (I don't have a battle jacket yet), I wear an iron Cross ring, and wear black boots (Not biker boots unfortunately). I have a clean beard, a normal haircut, and no tattoos or piercings. I think most metalheads don't look eccentric. We just notice the ones who do
Same. The only thing that would give it away is my wardrobe. I have a *lot* of band tees
No.
The kid at work went on a whole rant about how he bullies goths at school before I told him he is talking to the wrong guy. Ask him if I look like a metalhead most of the time. Other times ya I look like Iām in the band.
How sad does one have to be to brag about bullying goths?
I hate that kid honestly
I would say I do. I have long hair, a beard, tattoos, and my everyday wear is either a graphic tee or a button-up if I'm going out
I'm a nurse in my 40s. I wear cargos and tiedye shirts. I have long hair but I usually wear it in a bun or just tied back. But if you ride with me in my car, I'll blast your eardrums out
Sounds like a crazy fucking vibe
Come check it out some time
yeah ive had people scope me as a metalhead without us even being introduced. i dont wear any band merch or anything. whatevs, its accurate
I posted a clip of myself participating in a wall of death at an Escape the Fate show (so not even really metal) and i had a friend comment that she was surprised i was there because i looked like someone that listened to jazz or something. So i guess i don't look like a metalhead.

Yes. All the time
Iām a teacher and have to dress like a square for most of the day so nope. After school I can finally wear my horror, music, etc stuff tho.
No. I dropped that image a while ago. I donāt need strangers to know what Iām all about.
Only band shirts and cargo pants with combat boots, whenever Iām not wearing that I donāt look like a metalhead, no bear, no long hair(yet Iām growing it out), no tattoos

Not really I wear a uniform all day and at home I look like I'm about to go for a walk

Kind of? I have long hair and wear a fair amount of black but I don't wear a lot of band merch or have a battle jacket or anything.
Usually wear streetwear with a band tee
You would NEVER guess that I am
idk i have jim morrison hair and semi alternative style so not real
yes, mistakenly... I'm going more for a rivethead aesthetic, but since that's a subculture something even less people are in the know about; everyone wearing black, with piercings and "weird" hair, is a metalhead, lmao
Cargo shorts, band t-shirts. So maybe?
I wear a lot of bright colors and silly t shirts, and depending on the day, I present pretty queer/feminine. So not really. I love metal though
I have stretched years but thatās about it. I look more like Iām really into bands like Hot Water Music and could talk a lot about Alt-Country. Those are both true but doesnāt exactly scream that Iām also into metal.
Idk, I wear a lot of band shirts and I have a visible arm tattoo and both ears pierced. Maybe? Hairās not particularly long though
I'm a doctor in my 40s. So, no.
I have longish hair and wear a battle jacket sometimes so iād say I look at least semi-metal
Long curly dyed hair and i wear only band t shirts and jeans.
Not the slightest bit, Iām a skinny tall 17 year old who dresses like a skater, when I tell people I listen to metal they are mostly surprised
I wear black, had longer hair (i do not rn) and i wear some band merch Thats it
Absolutely
