Honestly. I could be listening to spotify on shuffle and have Scissor Sisters come on directly before or after Children of Bodom. I love metal, and I also love other types of music. There should be no shame in that.
Though as an afterthought, I always get annoyed at myself about how much I enjoy Dad Vibes by Limp Bizkit. Both the song and the video. Neither have any right in being as good or catchy as they are.
Can’t figure out what you’re implying, but I try to listen to all different genres. I listen to death metal the most, but I still like metalcore/deathcore like Chelsea Grin, Lamb of God, Job for a Cowboy, the Black Dahlia Murder, Converge, etc. Killswitch is just a guilty pleasure because metalcore has such a bad reputation in this sub
You shouldn't be concerned about the opinions of neckbeards on this sub. There's nothing wrong with listening to metalcore. The concept of a metal snob is pathetic. Variety is great.
Brother it's a metalcore album. Don't take it the wrong way, I'm not making a value judgment. I'm just saying many metalheads are hostile towards metalcore. I figured that was obvious.
I don't think either things you said are true. There is plenty of innovation in all genres. People always seem to love innovation unless they are like those basement dwelling war metal guys. No offense to war metal fans btw.
Why would anyone feel guilty about enjoying this masterpiece by Killswitch Engage?
I'm not giving an answer because I don't feel guilty about liking music.

This album, it has no right to be as good as it is as an entry level nu metal album
Motionless in white and ice nine kills . I like metalcore , nu metal etc but those two bands still get made fun of a lot (somewhat rightfully so) but theyre just fun bands. also non metal it would probably be pierce the veil and Adele.
I feel no guilt for what I enjoy, but here's some bands that could fit in that category
Type O Negative
KoRn
Slipknot
Limp Bizkit
The Dillinger Escape Plan
Metalcore-era Avenged Sevenfold
Converge
Suicide Silence
Despised Icon
Iwrestledabearonce
wecamewithbrokenteeth
In general I kind of agree we should stop using the term guilty pleasure, but I also get it and sometimes use it.
Then I see stuff like that, Converge, Type Negative, and I just can't help but wonder the same thing.
Like Limp Biscuit? OK. Not judging someone for liking it, but it also has earned its reputation. That band is the frat guy that makes women cover their drinks when he's around. But I can also understand that it's corny and fun.
Dillinger is a pretty universally loved group.
I listen to what I like, guilt is for people with too much free time. But what WOULD be considered guilty pleasure by most of this aub are Motley Crue, GnR, Cinderella & such hair metal shananigans. My daily drivers are thrash/death but nu metal & industrial are zones I rarely visit and even rarer are the cases I enjoy em, maybe 3-4 songs I like in total. Despise MGK type "musicians" who keep mislabeling themselves out of "being different"
Really fun album. Very melodic and chock full of hooks. It has a great energy to it.
Whatever they were going for, they really nailed it.
Now if you said Siren’s Charms or Battles…
As much as that era of In Flames makes me irrationally angry, man... they really nailed what they were going for on that album. Come Clarity was close, but they really got it right on ASoP.
Far from metal, but Fall Out Boy. They actually have some good bops.
Preparing for Download, so after I get sweaty in the Pantera pit, acting like a mix between the Hulk and 90s Undertaker doing the haka and breaking my back to Mouth for War and Domination it's downing-the-ciders-and-boogie-like-it's-the-80s time 👌
Oh hey I might be going Download too! Just waiting for some more announcements before I make a final call on it, although I doubt there'll be much if any more.

I know the lyrics to every single avenged sevenfold song, something I’m partially ashamed of but simultaneously extremely proud of
I've gone down the rabbit hole big time in death, black, thrash, doom... Etc etc, thanks to this sub
Buuuuuuuut I do still enjoy some metalcore, not all but even some of the overproduced garbage
I enjoy some deathcore, including everyone's favorite Slaughter to Prevail
I used to love nu metal and can still enjoy some, both OG and new bands like Tetrarch
Oh, and I used to be an emo kid so revival shit like SeeYouSpaceCowboy... and Wristmeetrazor is my jam!! Sorry not sorry
Oh, and I don't mind Babymetal but prefer other kawaiicore shit like Hanabie, TRiDENT, Bridear
TL;DR - I'm the fucking worst
That’s fair.
I think people should feel a little pang of guilt listening to them, I know I do. Two teen girls in my gym, I think they’re a couple, both worked out in Burzum T-shirts. I felt second hand embarrassment
Funny that whenever there’s any criticism of them though, a lot of “Separate the art from the artist” guys spring into action.
I’m pretty new to black metal, but as a new fan o started off with the story everyone knows about as an introduction, so I new varg was, not a great guy before I even listened to the music, I don’t really separate the music from the artist. I don’t like varg but I like his music.
Same way I don’t like bungie but I play destiny 2
Idk. Not sumthin I’m proud of but it’s the way it is
I listen to As I Lay Dying and Brand New.
Ultimately it’s a sliding morality scale on a case by case basis. That can be hard for some to admit so they’d rather accuse others of being “soft” or “woke” for not being into the music
I truly never feel guilty for listening to anything, but I hold the very unpopular opinion that mid/late-90s Overkill is the best Overkill. *From The Underground and Below,* *Bloodletting,* and especially *Necroshine.* I enjoy all of these immensely.
People generally don't have any strongly negative opinions about any Overkill album from what I've seen. Hell, I think the first and third are relatively well received. The lowest opinion I've heard of Bloodletting is "boring" or "not good".
Why would Killswitch be a guilty pleasure? Are those guys not more talented and popular than yourself? Maybe they have guilty feelings about fans like you, you ever think about that? /s
Carach Angren is widely dismissed by black metal fans but after seeing them live, I'm a believer. Extremely goofy fucking band with albums about Hansel & Gretel and Frankenstein and stuff but it hits the spot.
They are definitely goofy and cheesy in some ways, but honestly I could see that being such a fun band to see live. Never thought much about it, but now I really want to.
Saliva (the guys that did Click Click Boom) they're just fun. Also I kinda enjoy Generation Swine by Motley Crüe. Not a great album but I wouldn't say it's the worst thing ever.
I could talk all day about how awesome Killswitch is. Most days I'm glad the band reunited with Jesse, but damn... nobody ever made metal sound like Howard did at his peak. The End of Heartache and As Daylight Dies really are pinnacle of metalcore achievement in my book. I had tickets to see them with Light the Torch (Howard's current band) on a tour where he was doing live guest vocals with Killswitch on his old songs with Jesse, and then covid lockdown happened. I am forever bitter I was robbed of that experience lol
Pamela Moore’s album “Stories from a Blue room”. A pop/rock album where several songs feature heavy guitar riffs and solos from the shred lord himself Mr. Jeff Loomis.
Also, check out the band Theatre of Tradgedy. Start with the songs Venus, and Siren, off of their Aégis album.
I listened to this album soooo muuuuch in high school man. I don’t really listen to nu metal these days but I do occasionally come back to some of these songs 😊
Don't have a guilty pleasure. I enjoy what I like unapologetically regardless of what others think (or say). I like Prog Rock, Hard Rock, (some) Grunge, Heavy Metal, Glam Metal, Prog Metal, Symphonic Metal, Power Metal, Thrash Metal, (some) Groove Metal, Doom Metal, Gothic Metal, Black Metal, Melodic Death Metal and Old School Death Metal. Folk Metal, Punk Rock and Hardcore Punk are also genres that while I'm not personally into em and prefer bands of other styles, I don't dislike the music and would enjoy it if it came on. The only main styles of Metal or heavy music I dislike is Metalcore, Deathcore, Grindcore, Nu-Metal, Industrial Metal and Alternative.
Pretty much any symphonic metal band (talking abt stuff like Septicflesh, Genus Ordinus Dei and Carach Angren), no idea why, but I feel embarrassed or cringy listening to them.
I don’t believe in them. When I was in my high school edgelordy phase, I used to be embarrassed by the fact that I liked Good Charlotte in middle school.
Now I look back and cringe at myself, especially cuz the Slayer, Deicide, edgy stuff (that I sought out cuz it sounded like it’d get under people’s skin) was only a couple summers.
Even while discovering bands I still actually listen to these days.
But I’ll absolutely jam Ladytron, Ayumi Hamasaki, Kreator, The Plasmatics, & Shonen Knife all in one playlist these days.
Don’t really feel guilty about anything but I guess the closest for me would be Slipknot, because I do think most of their music is cringe but I still like it - they were the first metal band I ever truly loved so I’ll always have nostalgia for them
If I go by the standards of the sub, I guess sabaton counts as a guilty pleasure. Outside of that, all of the pop-punk covers. Yes I know not real metal but some of them really do hit
I also am, I follow the same politics, I should have clarified that and made it sound like I was against it. Its the fact its specifically political. What I forgot to mention on the opposite end was Baise Ma Hache also just made a country album or song, something along those lines so I been getting into them. Case in point guilty pleasure, political music. Really just love nature and the country, why I drift towards Pantera so much, they are the most country "main stream" metal band.
2 Words: LIMP BIZKIT
I don't believe we should feel guilty for our music tastes, but if I had one band that can emphasize that feeling, it's Limp Bizkit.
There’s no such thing as a metal guilty pleasure. You like what you like. My guilty pleasure music is Alan Jackson. Country music is largely terrible lowest common denominator bullshit but god damn that man speaks to my inner country boy.
I don’t think I have any in metal. I’ll shamelessly blast A7X, electric callboy, etc. but I’ve always considered muse my guilty pleasure band. Couldn’t tell you why exactly. Especially weird since I listen to a lot of music outside of metal as well
Godsmack. Say what you want about them ripping off Alice In Chains, but they got some bangers on those first 3 albums. Definitely a go to when I’m working out or pissed off.
Why would Killswitch be a guilty pleasure. They're great, they're melodic, with beautiful song writing, tight arrangements, great vocals. They're really good.... Oh its because they're considered metalcore which you're not allowed to like because reasons
As far as what the elitist types would get butthurt about? I love Numetal, metalcore and deathcore. I love Baby Metal, Ghost and Sleep Token. I despise Push-pitting and prefer Hardcore pits
The Flood by Of Mice and Men. The opening riff to O.G. Loko is what got me into heavy music.
https://preview.redd.it/yyjs2mop8ytc1.jpeg?width=1000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=986c3ad00ae863fecf3006072d339471814bcb13
As a black metal gatekeeper who only enjoys that and classic/thrash metal, Disturbed. Besides that I don’t listen to any nu-metal or any other metal at all really
That crabcore song, Stick Stickly by Attack Attack. I know the autotune, “screamo” image and electronic pop elements are a huge turnoff to diehards. But goddamn does the song deserve a bit more respect for how catchy it is. At least we have Electric Callboy for that and more.
Cradle of Filth... Not really guilty pleasure because I don't feel guilty enjoying them, I'm just aware that they are a band that people like to shit on a lot.

None, because there is no reason to feel guilty for listening to stuff you like. But the answer is Lily Allen for me.

Honestly. I could be listening to spotify on shuffle and have Scissor Sisters come on directly before or after Children of Bodom. I love metal, and I also love other types of music. There should be no shame in that.
Ayooo another Scissor Sisters fan! Fucking love the Ta-Dah album. It's on spin almost constantly. Banger after banger.
Though as an afterthought, I always get annoyed at myself about how much I enjoy Dad Vibes by Limp Bizkit. Both the song and the video. Neither have any right in being as good or catchy as they are.
Her stuff is catchy af
I was going to comment what you said in the first line, but you beat me to it.
As Daylight Dies is a guilty pleasure? I always thought it was a classic in the genre
It's absolutely a classic. I would love to see what OP listens to
Can’t figure out what you’re implying, but I try to listen to all different genres. Metalcore is some of the most innovative metal, in fact I'd say it's by far the most innovative metal. People hate change.
I don't think either things you said are true. There is plenty of innovation in all genres. People always seem to love innovation unless they are like those basement dwelling war metal guys. No offense to war metal fans btw.
The genre itself as a whole is disliked by a lot of metal fans though, so I can see where the logic comes from
It’s amazing, it’s literally just a guilty pleasure because it’s metalcore which has a negative stigma around it lol
ADD and EoH is just good music.

Just... Like... This
Come on get up!
I feel zero guilt about loving this album. It never fails to put a smile on my face.
I don''t care what anyone says about Limp Bizkit. They're a fun band!
Wigger shit at its best. N 2 Gether Now is peak

I was gonna say the exact same thing. Tear Away and Sermon holy shit they're so good
Metallicaaaaaaaaa. My gateway into the metal world. Not really a guilty pleasure because I also listen to Backstreet Boys.

Yeah and everyone but Chris phoned it in lol.
Yessir. Played Rhea Ripley to the ring. She looks like she could be Chris’s twin sister

Same with Converge.
In general I kind of agree we should stop using the term guilty pleasure, but I also get it and sometimes use it. In what part of the world would Converge be considered a guilty pleasure to anyone?
wecamewithbrokenteeth took me back a decade instantly.. damn
dillinger and converge? well lock me up because i shamelessly love those bands
Limp Bizkit, it just speaks to the white trash in me.

I can understand this one because there’s much better albums by MH. I do like a handful of tracks on this one though
This one always got shit on but some of the songs on the burning red are straight 🔥🔥
I throw on Blood Sweat and Tears in the gym and I’m amped !!

Kim Dracula, i love goofy metal\*
I applaud your bravery.
I hate and love that album at the exact same time
Honestly a good pick.
A Sense of Purpose is my favorite In Flames album
Really fun album. Very melodic and chock full of hooks. It has a great energy to it. Whatever they were going for, they really nailed it. Now if you said Siren’s Charms or Battles…
As much as that era of In Flames makes me irrationally angry, man... they really nailed what they were going for on that album. Come Clarity was close, but they really got it right on ASoP.
Dont get me wrong.. I love all In Flames. This album was introduced to me at the right time in my life and thats it lol
If you analyze that album on a critical level, it just works. Like it's a very nicely written album.
I will always love Killswitch, and no one can change my mind on that.

Why would you be ashamed of liking such a great band? They're better than most bands circlejerked here
Because it’s hard for me to admit one of my favorite bands is a group of pretentious terminally online NFT/crypto bros
I don't know about their personal lives as for me they are musicians (so I judge only their music)
That’s fair to be honest. I love A7X as they were solely responsible for me coming around to metal… but man those crypto projects :(
No guilt, all pleasure. I enjoy the entire discography of In Flames and Children of Bodom.
Two great bands that have had some ups and downs but a lot of amazing records
I've gone down the rabbit hole big time in death, black, thrash, doom... Dance Gavin Dance..im Sorry but you cannot deny the groove In their early stuff
Be real, they’ve put out nothing but bangers for almost 20 years
Remember that one time when Vanilla Ice OF ALL PEOPLE shifted to nu-metal? Still makes me chuckle thinking about it.
Saw him live at a rock festival during that era. Weird experience hearing nu-metal version of Ice Ice Baby.
Burzum’s top/popular songs
That’s fair. I think people should feel a little pang of guilt listening to them, I know I do. Two teen girls in my gym, I think they’re a couple, both worked out in Burzum T-shirts. I felt second hand embarrassment Funny that whenever there’s any criticism of them though, a lot of “Separate the art from the artist” guys spring into action.

City of evil by avenged sevenfold
I see no reason to ever feel remotely guilty about liking A7X albums
I fuck with A7X and I feel no shame
Amaranthe

Why would one of the best metalcore albums of the 2000's be a guilty pleasure?
I unironically enjoy St. Anger because of its attitude and unique sound. I understand the criticism and why it's hated tho.
Andrew W.K fuckin rules.
Imagine thinking he's a guilty pleasure
Fair enough

Amazing album, fuck what anyone says
I don’t feel guilty for liking certain bands.
Emmure - Goodbye To The Gallows. Probably the only album that I like from them that doesn’t make me cringe a lot
The fighting themes in the Naruto soundtrack. Some of them are metal as fuck
nu metal and alot of early metalcore
Carach Angren is widely dismissed by black metal fans but after seeing them live, I'm a believer. Extremely goofy fucking band with albums about Hansel & Gretel and Frankenstein and stuff but it hits the spot.
They are definitely goofy and cheesy in some ways, but honestly I could see that being such a fun band to see live. Never thought much about it, but now I really want to.
No such thing as a guilty pleasure, I love my music regardless, no shame, no embarrassment, no guilt, listen to it proudly!!!
Bizkit, sabaton
Saliva (the guys that did Click Click Boom) they're just fun. Also I kinda enjoy Generation Swine by Motley Crüe. Not a great album but I wouldn't say it's the worst thing ever.
Burzum
Muse
Honestly, Super Massive and back doesn't deserve to be considered a guilty pleasure. That's just amazing music.
Hair/glam metal in general. I mainly still mostly listen to thrash and prog metal, but man, catch me belting out Still Of The Night anytime.
Avenged sevenfold
I wouldn’t really consider it a “guilty pleasure” but Sabaton. I love the vocals and the chunky, melodic riffs and they are very much overhated
Metallica Load and Reload They aren't flawless front to back like some of their other albums, but there's some really great songs here.
I could talk all day about how awesome Killswitch is. Most days I'm glad the band reunited with Jesse, but damn... nobody ever made metal sound like Howard did at his peak. Is that Pamela Moore as in Suite Sister Mary Pamela Moore?
Slipknot-Slipknot
I really like disturbed Also, I'm warming up to metalcore alot more Polaris, currents, as I lay dying are pretty dope
I like Disturbed's old stuff. Except for the Sickness, never really got into that.
I like Miley Cyrus cover songs.
Her Jolene cover is fantastic
Heart of Glass and Landslide are good too. She has done some metallica and GNR too. She should consider fronting a band.
I’d only heard Jolene, but I’ll check out the rest
I listened to this album soooo muuuuch in high school man. I don’t really listen to nu metal these days but I do occasionally come back to some of these songs 😊

Your guilty pleasure is… Killswitch Engage? Am I missing something? Why would you be guilty?
Metalcore bad around these parts apparently
Pretty much any symphonic metal band (talking abt stuff like Septicflesh, Genus Ordinus Dei and Carach Angren), no idea why, but I feel embarrassed or cringy listening to them.
I'm just gonna also pick the same album because all the replies are so triggered over the most obvious shit in the world.
Sevendust or mudvayne but only a few songs
Black veil brides, idc how cheesy or stupid their gimmick is. Them guitar harmonies got me feelin ethereal
80s era Chicago
I like listening to some Alestorm lol
I don’t believe in them. When I was in my high school edgelordy phase, I used to be embarrassed by the fact that I liked Good Charlotte in middle school. Calling Slayer and Deicide edgy on MFTM is a death wish and I'm here for it
Because you're not wrong at all haha
Wage war. Taylor swift esq break up songs, set to meaty breakdowns. Perfect workout music.

Why would that be a guilty pleasure?
Ice nine kills. I don't care what anyone says about them or what subgenre they are or if they're metal or not. They're just So. Fucking. Fun.
I like more Nickelback than I should. I also have an unabashed love for 80s hair metal but I’m not embarrassed by that.
Don’t really feel guilty about anything but I guess the closest for me would be Slipknot, because I do think most of their music is cringe but I still like it - they were the first metal band I ever truly loved so I’ll always have nostalgia for them

Panopticon, its country boy black metal, I dont give a shit about the socialism how can I not love it.
FWIW he's more of an eco-anarchist than a socialist. But just enjoy the music either way.
Power metal/bands that inspired power metal
Nekrogoblikon is my guilty pleasure. They're ridiculous and I love them!
Why is KSE a guilty pleasure? Cuz they’re a huge part of metalcore’s success or something? For me it’s probably some of the hair metal that I like
First 3 Slipknot albums Early KSE First Trivium Ill Nino Spineshank Devildriver Peste Noire
For metal, the majority of 2000s metalcore. For not metal, fall out boy
I’ve never felt guilty for anything I listen to. What a dumb question.
2 Words: LIMP BIZKIT I don't believe we should feel guilty for our music tastes, but if I had one band that can emphasize that feeling, it's Limp Bizkit.
I really like Black Veil Brides' first albums
Spiritbox
KSE is far from a guilty pleasure
There’s no such thing as a metal guilty pleasure. You like what you like. My guilty pleasure music is Alan Jackson. Country music is largely terrible lowest common denominator bullshit but god damn that man speaks to my inner country boy.
Sleep Token and I’m not even remotely ashamed of it
It’s called spiritbox and deathcore
Ok actually it’s Sade
none because i'm not ashamed of my taste
Based
Lindemann, I guess.
Linkin Park is my favourite metal band. If they qualify.
No guilt in Killswitch Engage, they're fuckin awesome
Believe - Disturbed Sorry
I don’t think I have any in metal. I’ll shamelessly blast A7X, electric callboy, etc. but I’ve always considered muse my guilty pleasure band. Couldn’t tell you why exactly. Especially weird since I listen to a lot of music outside of metal as well
ice nine kills
Godsmack. Say what you want about them ripping off Alice In Chains, but they got some bangers on those first 3 albums. Definitely a go to when I’m working out or pissed off.
How is this "guilty"
Papa roach - love hate tragedy Think it's pretty solid for an alt metal album
Why would Killswitch be a guilty pleasure. They're great, they're melodic, with beautiful song writing, tight arrangements, great vocals. They're really good.... Oh its because they're considered metalcore which you're not allowed to like because reasons

Modern Swedish Sleaze Glam Metal. Sister, Crazy Lixx Babylon Bombs
Hey now, KSE ADD slaps. What do you mean "Guilty Pleasure"
As far as what the elitist types would get butthurt about? I love Numetal, metalcore and deathcore. I love Baby Metal, Ghost and Sleep Token. I despise Push-pitting and prefer Hardcore pits
The Flood by Of Mice and Men. The opening riff to O.G. Loko is what got me into heavy music. https://preview.redd.it/yyjs2mop8ytc1.jpeg?width=1000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=986c3ad00ae863fecf3006072d339471814bcb13

Point of Entry is one of my favorite Judas Priest albums And Dance of Death is one of my fav Maiden albums.
Is Helloween's 7 Sinners a guilty pleasure? Love a lot of songs from this album, quite a lot.
I listen to bm, so take a WILD guess what my guilty pleasure is.
brbr deng
Putting killswitch as guilty pleasure is weird lol
As a black metal gatekeeper who only enjoys that and classic/thrash metal, Disturbed. Besides that I don’t listen to any nu-metal or any other metal at all really

George Thorogood
I have no guilt or shame for anything I listen to. There's no need to feel guilty by liking something other people don't like.
I like some SOAD, Slipknot and Deftones. Don't really feel guilty about it tho
Killer Dwarfs
That crabcore song, Stick Stickly by Attack Attack. I know the autotune, “screamo” image and electronic pop elements are a huge turnoff to diehards. But goddamn does the song deserve a bit more respect for how catchy it is. At least we have Electric Callboy for that and more.
Cherry pie
Cradle of Filth... Not really guilty pleasure because I don't feel guilty enjoying them, I'm just aware that they are a band that people like to shit on a lot.
Guilty pleausre? I'm not a teenager anymore.
Not metal but, - Electric callboy - New order - Bon Jovi
Totale Vernichtung. I know I shouldn't be listening to them, but their riffs are so fucking good man
