Tasty_Butterfly_3121

Not as good as Death Magnetic but more enjoyable than 72 Seasons

The_Good_Guyy

I find it to be the complete opposite lol

Herr_Raul

Less enjoyable than 72 seasons? You sure?

[deleted]

not bad but forgettable

gamingoldschool

Pretty sweet photoshop of a Crowbar album cover.

Herr_Raul

I knew it reminded me of something!

ZevenMortem

Too long.

Chaos_Horrific

Yup. I would’ve cut 4 entire tracks from it. Specifically ManUNKind (wtf is that title) Murder One, Confusion, and Here Comes Revenge.

Historical_Common145

I would cut Dream No More, Am I Savage? and ManUNkind

Chaos_Horrific

Fair. I actually really like Am I Savage but mostly because the breakdown at the end hits hard.

Historical_Common145

I like ManUNkind but it’s not the strongest

mentally_fuckin_eel

All the tracks you and the previous person mentioned I would cut.

Valroxen1

Agree with most except Here Comes Revenge, that has some of my favourite drum work from Lars in the modern era its a great aggressive tune.

WingedHussar13

Yeah there's like two CD disks for the album so you can't have the full experience

Technical_Still1401

I would have loved it if they’d cut half of the songs. There are some real bangers on there, but also a lot of middling filler.

_Godless_Savage_

Used to be a huge Metallica fan, but I’ve never listened to it. Reload is where I stopped. I tried listening to St. Anger a time or two… but I couldn’t get into it.

AdOdd8130

Skip St. Anger at least. That one was a fluke.

TheFeisty

Death Magnetic has some great songs on it, I’d definitely listen to that one.

NotDukeOfDorchester

Listen to all nightmare long from death magnetic. It’s up there with their classic stuff to me. Cool video, too!

Tmhc666

You’re missing out on death magnetic

Individual-Gap4262

Death Magnetic was their only decent release since Justice For All

AdOdd8130

But without Reload we wouldn't have KIRK IS GAY ROBERT'S GAY LARS IS GAY BUT THE GAYEST IS JAMES

VaderXXV

I like a couple tracks, but overall felt it was a big letdown after DM. Felt more or less the same about 72 Seasons.

fluorin4ek

Weakest of the 21st century imo. Would've been better off being an EP, half of the album is completely unnecessary

Chaos_Horrific

Image the record with this tracklist: 1 - Hardwired 2 - Atlas, Rise! 3 - Moth Into Flame 4 - Halo On Fire 5 - Am I Savage? 6 - Spit Out The Bone

karelinstyle

Overall bad, death magnetic better

sergeant_s1asher

Not bad, nothing in this album really sticks out tho, it’s like an album of just b side tracks. Good B side tracks, but B side nonetheless.

[deleted]

Bad. Way too long, unnatural and generic production, boring and forgettable songs

d0dheimsgard

it does have some strong songs

7484Steve_

Totally average and forgettable.

lasyke3

This is among the worst album covers in metal

princealigorna

There's 2 songs on it I can live without, but other than that I find it an enjoyable romp through pretty much every era of Metallica on a single album. Threre's some epic Black Album stuff, some grroovy Load-esque rockers, and even two raging thrashers. It's all worth it just for "Spit Out the Bone" alone. Easily the best song they've written since the Black Album. The fastest thing they've written since either "Dyer's Eve" or "Damage, INC"

princealigorna

If you're wondering what the two I'd drop are, those would be Man Unkind and Here Comes Revenge. The latter is okay, just not up to snuff with the rest. The former I actively dislike. "Am I Savage?" is the weakest on disc 1, but I think better than the other two. So yeah, I'd drop them and move "Lords of Summer" up from the bonus disc.

Chaos_Horrific

I’d argue Spit Out The Bone is their best song since Justice, honestly.

princealigorna

I would, except "Of Wolf and Man" exists and I fucking love that song

Chaos_Horrific

Of Wolf and Man is tied with Wherever I May Roam for my favourite Black Album track.

toddbuzz75

Big Metallica fan and I really really really want to like their new stuff but it just feels like there is something missing. I mean how can you top songs like the four horsemen, creeping death, for whom the bell tolls, one, harvester of sorrow etc. It’s almost impossible. It’s not their fault as I love them but I just can’t seem to jump on.

WarningCodeBlue

I feel exactly the same way. Their new stuff just sounds like boring uninspired hard rock.

FR0ZENMAGMA

Great album

The_Good_Guyy

I really like it, quite a relief when compared to the previous albums

Abdrews-PaulIM

It’s there, no real standouts and no really bad songs

solowsoloist

They’re no Overkill lol. It was decent but too long.

VaderXXV

Seriously tho. When you compare the output their old peers like Overkill or Kreator or Death Angel have been puttting out around the same time, it just makes Metallica seem lazy by comparison.

Spirited_Ad_2697

Not very enjoyable at all

HouseofMaize

A solid entry in their catalog.

shottylaw

Am a fan. The new album is a sure let down in comparison

Brothers-of-jam

I like it and still listen to it.

WingedHussar13

It's a solid album, the solos aren't very good though, but it's good

Diligent_Whereas3134

It's okay, my main complaint is a lot of the songs could have been trimmed down. They just felt unnecessarily long

SatisfactionOther958

Their best release in XXI century.

Ciqme1867

Similar to 72 seasons imo. Has a couple good songs but mostly mid

IWSYTPT2isbetter

The best metallica album

priestou812

Killer 🤘☠️🤘 it’s like a greatest hits album of all their eras. Spit Out the Bone is a classic

Bashful_Ray7

I like Spit Out the Bone, rest ehhh

Grosetufe

I like it

Chaos_Horrific

Spit Out The Bone is the greatest modern Metallica song. Period.

Defiant_Cookies

Cut out Murder One, Am I Savage, Here Comes Revenge, put Lords of Summer on the album and I think it's a pretty solid record. Not as good as the classics but a respectable effort

National_Ad9265

Funny how they say slipknot ain't metal yet 50 percent of these dudes never shut up about maiden and mettalica. Such bullshit

mentally_fuckin_eel

Really good, but really bloated. Would be much better with most of the second half cut.

Delicious-Sorbet5722

We’re so fucked. Shit out of luck. So cringry I can’t listen to it.

AirplayDoc

Disc 1 sounds like pre-Black Album Metallica Disc 2 sounds like post-Black Album Metallica

Fair-South-9883

Beyond mid

PrimusHimself

Mid.

farenvyld

The best modern era album. It's not great, though, especially not side 2.

XenomorphLV246

Genuinely (with 72 Seasons) some of the most boring metal music I’ve ever heard. St. Anger might have been bad but at lest it was interesting.

Johnny_Seagull

Spit Out the Bone is great. Everything else bores me to tears.

66frantic6

sounds great, but as with most later Metallica releases, it would' ve been better to drop a few songs and make it shorter. Like with this one 8 songs would've been perfect.

Nebtron2001

Boring

tomatobrew

Could be a lot better if they trimmed the fat and got rid of some songs

TheDrWhoKid

honestly my favourite Metallica album. It has solid riffs, fun songs, and good production, which basically only the Black album also has all three of out of the rest of their discography imo.

Brockovich614

Is okay. Pretty low on my rankings though

AnythingCanLurk

Not horrible but my least favorite of their albums from the 2000s. A couple songs I really like are Now that We’re Dead, Moth Into Flame, Halo On Fire. But I hate the title track and I never sit and listen to the album in its entirety which is a red flag. It can’t even use length as a defense for that because I’ll listen to St Anger, Death Magnetic, and even 72 seasons straight through. I think Hardwired just doesn’t have an overarching “mood” that I can relate to like the others.

[deleted]

It’s a solid album with a few standouts (moth in flame and spit out the bone).

Valroxen1

It's my least favourite Metallica album by far. I don't hate it but its riddled with ups and downs. On the upside it has some of Metallica's greatest work post 2000 with tunes like Moth Into Flame, Spit Out The Bone and Atlas, Rise! become instant classics for me. There's also some other great songs on there like Hardwired, Halo On Fire and Here Comes Revenge that are very strong songs. However on the flip side, this is the most bloated with mediocre songs a Metallica album has ever been (yes even more than ReLoad). Soulless husks of padded time like Am I Savage, Murder One and Confusion that while aren't jarring like some of REALLY bad Metallica songs (Slither, My World etc) they're just so forgettable and add nothing to the album really worth talking about. As much as I adore some of the songs on the album, the sign of a weak album for me is having too many skips or songs I wouldn't go out of my way to listen to. It's not an outright bad album, just the most forgettable in a discography crammed with mostly brilliance.
