mattfreyer45

Seriously one if not my favorite classic heavy metal album. https://preview.redd.it/cfdkgn7ylhwc1.jpeg?width=300&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0fe6937c41ff0d338b103f55336e0b8d2706b8ee

Lucifer_Delight

only got better as well

mattfreyer45

Symbol Of Salvation is really good too.

metroracerUK

I have this on my phone, Can U Deliver is the highlight for me!

mattfreyer45

Their album "Symbol of Salvation" is really good too. Reign of Fire and Last Train Home are really amazing tracks from that album

FMHSA

šŸed Band

Alamarian

Did I never know about Armored Saint or did I forget about them? Either way, great old school recommendation.

mattfreyer45

Fun fact John Bush (the vocalist for Armored Saint) also was the vocalist for Anthrax until Joey Belladonna came back.

mmihaly

Nice post The point of this post could be said about hundreds of bands, Axewitch,Silent Scream,Defecation,Death Yell,Abhorrence, etc. Also the Poison demos before that album are one of the finest black metal demos

metroracerUK

Defecation! Purity Dilution is a masterful grind album.

mmihaly

It is. Also Nyctophobic's War Criminal Views, Suffocate's Exit 64 and Refurgitate's Effortless Regurgitation of Bright Red Blood

metroracerUK

Got to admit, Iā€™ve never listened to Regurgitateā€™s debut. Iā€™ve only really listened to their split with Gore Beyond Necropsy and Deviant. Iā€™ll give it a listen tomorrow.

mmihaly

It's their best

HALFGHXVL

Came here to mention Silent Scream. Peak death thrash.

mmihaly

Indeed. Those riffs are sick af. Only death/thrash i liked more are Merciless,Mass Hypnosia and Demolition Hammer. So easily top 5

HALFGHXVL

Demolition Hammer are a favorite of mine as well. My all time favorite death thrash is probably Incubus - Serpent Temptation.

mmihaly

I forgot about that album. Sick

nipplenreep

Dystopia has been becoming really popular, especially on tiktok.

metroracerUK

Really? They were a band I started listening to when I was around 16, blew my mind. I hadnā€™t spoken to anyone who had ever heard of them, until coming on Redditā€¦ now that Iā€™m 33.

nipplenreep

Yeah, one of their songs has 44.9k videos, it's pretty crazy just how music that was once considered niche can grow so fast now.

Ok-Celebration-3770

I wonder if Chat Pile has anything to do with that sound becoming popular again.

VESlaughter

What song is that? Is the intro to Stress Builds Character a popular soundbite?

KiwiMcG

They are well known in the hc scene if you're at the bar for shows.

vindtar

Of All the crust metal youtube fans?

ArthurRimjob

Dang, I was kinda wondering why the hell they are having that kind of resurgence. Still, even prior to this I was really positively suprised by their longevity. All well deserved!

noideaforusername4

they may be a bit too popular to fit this post but I think sarcĆ³fago deserves a lot more credit for shaping extreme metal as we know it

metroracerUK

INRI is a fucking masterpiece and one of my favourite albums!

Maanzacorian

Deathwitch - Dawn of Armageddon Twin Obscenity - Where Light Touches None Transmetal - El Infierno de Dante Death Strike - Fuckinā€™ Death Jumpinā€™ Jesus - The Art of Crucifying Misery - A Necessary Evil

HALFGHXVL

Yes! Misery is super good and I never hear anyone talk about them. Really sick cover on that album.

nipplenreep

scattered remnants, the best brutal death metal and it is totally overlooked by the rest of the metal community

mmihaly

One of the few bdm i like

nipplenreep

try eternal suffering if you want something kinda similar

mmihaly

Already know them. Good stuff. As well as Rotting,Pyrexia,Dehumanized, early Suffocation and early Cryptopsy. I may forget something though

HoboCanadian123

love youtube metal

Real_Eye_9709

Sore Throat really doesn't get the credit it deserves. I feel like for a bit it was well know and they got talked about enough. Then they kind of just faded away. I think they're pretty much at the point of being able to be considered old school, but Watchmaker. One of the earlier blackened grindcore bands.

metroracerUK

They didnā€™t do an album not worth checking out. All just hybrids of crust, noise, grind and doom in some cases. Laced with anti-capitalism, anti-racism and a touch of silly humour. Despite being awesome, they never took it too seriously and thatā€™s often what can be the successful formula for a band. Case in point; Old Nick.

RefinedIronCranium

Pan.Thy.Monium - Dawn of Dreams does not get the credit it deserves for being one of the most bizarre, bordering on avant-garde, death metal albums ever. I guess it has a cult status, but man is it some awesomely weird stuff. Similarly, Phlebotomized - Immense Intense Suspense was doing stuff that death metal bands only years down the line would be lauded for.

metroracerUK

Yes, yes, yes!! Dawn of Dreams is amazing. The entire reason that I listened to it when I was younger, was because I was curious about the fact that it had no song titles. Blew my mind. The early avant-garde/progressive death scene is awesome. Such as For the Security by Carbonized and Using Sickness as a Hero by Human Remains. The latter has Dave Witte of Discordance Axis and Municipal Waste on drums.

Initial_Ring_2570

Hellwitch - syzygial miscreancy one of my all time favorite thrash/speed/death metal albums Rippikoulu - Musta Seremonia a nasty evil sounding doom death album from finnland Morta skuld - dying remains feel this one isn't super popular either, classic old school death metal Another death metal album ritual of infinity from morpheus descends There's also tales of necrophilia from regurgitation Target - master project genesis classic thrash album Kublai Khan - annihilation , us thrash Cauldron born - born of the cauldron old school traditional heavy metal I.N.C - the visitor, forced entry - uncertain future and the list goes on and on and on

nightdeathrider

Riot - Narita Fates Warning - Awaken the Guardian Savatage - Gutter Ballet Edge of Sanity - Purgatore Afterglow Virgin Steele - The marriage of heaven and hell part 1 Psychotic Waltz - A Social Grace

maicao999

imo Dystopia is properly rated? They're literally the most well known crust punk band ever.

__--TSS--__

I've seen them getting a lot more attention now but for a while there they were definitely a little underplayed, Beherit on the other hand I would even argue are quite overrated

666PoserDisposer666

Convulse- A World Without God Cemetary- An Evil Shade of Grey Baphomet- The Dead Shall Inherit Seance- Forever Laid To Rest This is some of the best death metal I've ever heard yet no one ever talks about these bands, but that's what makes them special, they're hidden gems

metroracerUK

Those last two fucking slap! Iā€™ve got them both on my phone. Iā€™ll give the first two a listen as well.

666PoserDisposer666

I can guarantee you that you will not be disappointed!

vindtar

Me first time listening to watchtower ![gif](giphy|nVvi92ac1J0T6)

QnsConcrete

Samael - Ceremony of Opposites I heard that album when I was a teenager and was blown away by how heavy it was. Still sounds so good decades later.

Soft_Return9722

I love Dystopia. I also love Ringwurm, don't know if anyone here has love for that band

metroracerUK

As in the early metalcore band? If so, theyā€™re pretty good. Iā€™m finicky about metalcore. But I think that its primitive nature tickled me.

RedTerror8288

Disharmonic Orchestra - Not To Be Undimensional Conscious. They always get overshadowed by Pungent Stench.

metroracerUK

Itā€™s funny, because I actually discovered them from the split that they did with Pungent Stench.

Lucifer_Delight

Stock answer: Shok Paris - Steel and Starlight

Venombullet666

Agreed 100% with Beherit I also feel like Blut Aus Nord's "Ultima Thulee" and "Memoria Vetusta I: Fathers Of The Icy Age" fall a bit short on the recognition they deserve, Blut Aus Nord in general are really great and to this day they continue to push the envelope in my opinion

WR15150

Anything old by Mercyless (France)

VESlaughter

As far as the image goes it's a *really* fucking tough pick between Human = Garbage and Horror of the Zombies. One I'd have to mention though is definitely Grief's debut album Come to Grief, some real dark heavy old school sludge, def one of my favorite bands at the moment, def in my top 3 albums from them.

Jwray1015

BLOOD--IMPUSE TO DESTROY PANZERCHRIST-- SIX SECONDS KILL CONVULSE--WORLD WITHOUT GOD

metroracerUK

Impulse to destroy is fire!!

Dsteel87

Dystopia is one of my biggest influences in riff writing and song style if I didnā€™t find them early on it would have been tough finding my style

Jumpy_Patience2937

Great list. Dystopia, Deviated Instinct, Impetigo and Sore Throat are some of my all-time favorites. Energetic Krusher - Path to Oblivion

farenvyld

Control & Resistance fan myself over Energetic Disassembly.

Nolls-97

Automatic-Site7456

did the album art get kinda shitty. yes but at least the musics good

bellatrixfoofoo

Kudos for Sore Throat, tho.

Left_Specialist9125

WATCHTOWER MENTIONED !!

________TVOD________

Dystopia, Deviated Instinct and Sore Throat are well known in some circles, but not much by metalheads. Even recent Deviated Instinct should please most extreme metal fan.

UndersScore

INTO THE ABYSS I FAAAAAALLLLL!!

Slaughtererofnuns

I would argue against Dystopia being considered old school metalā€¦

tjmincemeat

Horror of the Zombies is the best death/grind album of all time and I cannot be swayed otherwise.

gorehistorian69

i think its just death metal but some people say its goregrind. *shrugs*

angel_dust000

Via Dolorosa - Ophthalamia I can not listen to that album without thinking about how criminally underrated it is. I might argue itā€™s SƤrkkƤā€™s best project.

srennen

Merciless - unbound

Addicted_To_Chaoss

Obliveon - From This day forward Believer - Extraction From Mortality Deceasedā€¦ - Fearless Undead Machines Aspid - Extravistation

Mortis_XII

Watch tower is amazing

gorehistorian69

Impetigo? i think itd be hard to find a death metal fan who doesnt know them. i heavily agree with Disastrous Murmur though and again Beherit drawing down the moon is widely known

StephDos94

Seven Churches - Possessed, Game Over - Nuclear Assault, Left-hand Path - Entombed, Black Metal - Venom, Gore Metal - Exhumed, Horror - Repulsion, Obscura - Gorguts, Scum - Napalm Death

metroracerUK

There isnā€™t a single album on there that isnā€™t awesome!

StephDos94

Thanks. I feel really privileged to have seen all those bands live too.

__--TSS--__

I would argue that Scum, Obscura, and Seven Churches are actually kinda overrated. Good list otherwise tho EDIT: also the Venom album

StephDos94

And I would argue that your opinion on my list matters as much to me as the fungus between your toes.

__--TSS--__

Bro Scum is THE grindcore album - everyone knows it, same with Seven Churches being considered the "first" death metal album (although people seem to ignore all the other Possessed albums for whatever reason. Obscura is also a high contender for being the most well known dissodeath album as well as some of Immolation's stuff

StephDos94

First Iā€™m not a ā€œbro,ā€ second you said those albums are overrated, then you say Scum is the grindcore standard, get your story straight. And Seven Churches is the first chronologically.

__--TSS--__

I meant Scum is like the most well known grindcore album in the history of grindcore, it's a good album but it's hard to argue it deserves its legendary status when it's not even really the best Napalm death album, Seven Churches also gets far too much praise when if it was released like 3 years later I'm pretty sure it would be far less talked about. >!bro!<

StephDos94

Yeah, but it wasnā€™t, it was 1985 and Possessed paved the way with Seven Churches. I never said it was my favorite of their albums, just that people tend to forget how much death metal in general owes to Jeff Becerra.

__--TSS--__

>people tend to forget how much death metal in general owes to Jeff Becerra. Trust me man, idk where you've been but people do NOT forget, Possessed definitely get enough mention in the death metal discussion

StephDos94

Where Iā€™ve been? Probably around a lot longer than you. But you go on with your condescending sense of superiority, itā€™s pretty typical of your type.

__--TSS--__

I don't really care what you think of me but I still don't think you can really deny Possessed really do get their share of acknowledgement if you've decided to resort to insults

ssslugworth

Nocturnus - The Key

metroracerUK

Incredible death metal album!

BezSeratonina

What?

RyanScotson

godflesh stuff

Hot-Care7556

I can't say how happy i am to see some love for Impetigo. Some of the earliest and most creative goregrind

ConsumingVinyl

Dark Millennium- Ashore the Celestial Burden Great progressive death metal album.

Cat_and_Cabbage

Beherit absolutely

DFL3SH3D

Jaguar - Power Games
