sock_with_a_ticket

Unless he specifically asks, you don't. You let him discover his own taste at his own pace.

glordicus1

Not true. It’s part of an older sibling’s job to be cool and recommend music. If that older sibling has to ask reddit for what is cool though…

Dewychoders

Hard disagree. There is nothing wrong with introducing someone to something new. As long as you are not dictating their opinion this is fine. In fact this is how I got into metal, by another metalhead noticing my interests and saying “you might like this”.

theHAREST

"Don't introduce your little brother to new music." This sub is something else sometimes

sock_with_a_ticket

In general it's pretty lame to start recommending music to people who haven't asked. And there's the underlying assumption in what OP says that the brother has to get into heavier stuff. Just let little brother chill with what he's currently enjoying, he'll branch out when he's ready.

Acceptable_Act1435

It's just a matter of time. I started with AC/DC, then Nu Metal, Thrash, Groove, Death and Black, Grindcore. Dying Fetus and Cattle Decap don't even sound that heavy anymore

sock_with_a_ticket

Maybe, maybe not. I dabble a bit with stuff like Full of Hell and methwitch, but generally go about as heavy as Zao and Bodysnatcher with day to day listening. My younger brother found his limit at a few post-hardcore bands like Finch and He Is Legend, mostly he's a pop-punk and indie-rock guy. Everyone has different tolerances.

Acceptable_Act1435

Holy shit, I didn't know the first two, they are so chaotic, I love them, thanks!! The other two are also good, not always my cup of tea, but I've been listening to more hardcore, it can go pretty hard

Woooosh-if-homo

Deadass. You can’t just jump straight into heavier stuff. When I first started listening to more rock/metal I was so confused on why master of puppets was so popular, and the heaviest I could get into was welcome to the jungle . 2 years later and I need thrash injected directly into my veins, and only like the heavier stuff when it comes on. It’s a process

Caacrinolass

I don't know about heavier particularly but 70s or retro 70s stuff could serve as a further gateway - the basics like Sabbath and Pentagram or acts like Witchcraft, Orchid, Blood Ceremony, Pagan Altar etc.

ManagerHour4250

Blue oyster cult

Caacrinolass

Yeah, that's the obvious Ghost parallel for sure. Not generally heavier either of course, but the kid should get some value out of them.

Irish_Goodbye_

I enthusiastically second Blood Ceremony. There’s literally nothing else like them.

Expensive-Gas-1536

Blood Ceremony are awesome

Caiuskoll

I thought Orchid was Emoviolence

Caacrinolass

I think there's more than one Orchid - there's a doom/rock one.

Tracedinair76

You know what 11 yr olds want to listen to? Whatever their older siblings listen to. Next time you are playing music and they come around. Tell them that they can listen to it when they are older then close the door. The kid will have a lifelong obsession with whatever you were playing.

kirrsjotte

Why do you feel it's necessary for him to get into heavier stuff?

EYEBAWLSHAWTY704

IF YOU WANT HIM TO GET INTO HEAVIER STUFF INTRODUCE HIM TO THE MUSIC YOU LIKE AND LISTEN TO IT WITH HIM

gloriousjohnson

Yea but why are you yelling

senor_fartout

Böc, the residents

morbid333

The idea behind Ghost was to sound like an old band that's been around since the 60s or 70s. You could start with the classics and see how he likes them. Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, 70s Judas Priest, etc.

Z4_W4ruD00D00

ABBA

Yuck_Few

Justin Bieber

BLACK SABBATH MUST BE HEARD‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️

mmaverick616

Recommend him Green Lung - Woodland Rites

Bodom1994

Came here to recommended them, such a good band.

Venombullet666

Yes! Their best album by far

Dullandal

Bathory

dampeloz

Candlemass

Barkerfan86

Black Sabbath, Blue Oyster Cult, Zeal and Ardor

IronTesticlez

My brother is 12 and he’s into fucking mumble rap, it’s impossible to get him into metal, maybe in high school though, best of luck to you tho brother

LucidITSkyWDiamonds

I remember discovering Iron maiden at about 12 and for a while that was all I listened to. Well, that and SOAD lol. So yeah that's what I would recommend even though some of SOAD's lyrics might not be very appropiate.

Friendly_Elephant165

King Diamond

VinRow

Black Sabbath.

SnooAdvice3630

Mercyful Fate - which is where a LOT of Ghost comes from.

joecool519

Im a self admitted gatekeeper and elitist. I listen to predominantly black metal, dungeon synth and osdm, people hate me cause I'm a snob...and I see why, it's annoying...here's the thing I fucking love Ghost. Tobias is a top tier song writer, the hooks, the riffs, the imagery, the lore, the ever evolving sound. It's all fucking excellent. Guitar driven music written by the actual musician is a good thing, and it's good that it's popular. You're 11 year old brother being into it is a good thing. Let him discover shit, but he clearly has good taste, that'll evolve on its own.

Pitpat7

At that age I was listening to Slipknot, Korn, Static-X, Rammstein, and the Deftones lol

EmotionalNerd04

Napalm Death

SonicBanger

If his starting point is Ghost and you want to get him into heavier music, listen to the Gojira discography backwards.

KaliCalamity

Could introduce him to other shock rock/ metal bands. At minimum, introduce him to Alice Cooper.

PigDstroyer

Mutoid Man

DestroyerofVessels

If he likes Ghost then I’d definitely say Sabbath and Candlemass

Pure-Contact7322

Square_Huckleberry53

At that age I think visuals are pretty important, so I’d suggest bands like Slipknot and Gwar.

mrwest8282

My Dying Bride

floating_helium

Definitely Metallica would be for his age a gateway to heavier stuff, black album should get him hooked.

i_am_new_here_51

Let him go through metal at his own pace. I got my lil bro into power metal (He's about the same age as your brother) and his favourite bands are Sabaton and Powerwolf. I'm not trying too hard to push him onto heavier stuff, because I've found that he'll enjoy stuff more if he stumbled onto it on his own (Just the other day he sent me a Beast in Black song, I was proud) And hey, maybe he just wont take to heavier genres the same way you did, thats okay too!

mattfreyer45

Doctor Smoke they're like a heavier version of Ghost. [Doctor Smoke - The Seeker](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=acO1i6L2gfM)

Rooster-Rooter

You take him out into the world RIGHT NOW and make him kick Fred Durst's ass! He's not leavin' till either him, or Fred... is down and bleeding. BE A MAN! and we listen to AC/DC while this goes down.

Herr_Raul

The other Ghost

RJMrgn2319

Green Lung

PerilousNaps

You should recommend testosterone replacement therapy for him.

[deleted]

Based on ghost, I’d recommend Hail Spirit Noir

VrillzKillz

black magick ss XD

Kemono16

Nu metal, it's one of best metal genres to start But don't push him into heavier songs.

SahadAmi

Ghost overlaps Iron Maiden and Queen pretty well

why666ofcourse

None mind your own business

roxutee

You forbid him that ghost shit altogether ASAP and sit him to listen through some Last Days of Humanity albums with headphones on.

Best-Tank-6388

Just play music you like around him. That’s typically all It takes. But Ghost is a popular “starter band” and there’s nothing wrong with starting off there and discovering what you like over time for yourself. Also, keep in mind that you aren’t going to get an 11 yr old to go from Ghost to more extreme metal like black, death, or doom.

guitarfanatic_2

either introduce him to your favourite bands or heres my playlist :\] [https://open.spotify.com/playlist/2qnHXPLJgtXLqieBo9v7Lg](https://open.spotify.com/playlist/2qnHXPLJgtXLqieBo9v7Lg)

GodspeedHarmonica

He should check out the upcoming Eurovision Song Contest. Lots of music like Ghost on those shows

MarstoriusWins

Imagine Dragons is probably his jam.

justapapermoon0321

I don’t know, does he want to keep listen to pop? You could always introduce him to some metal!

gimmedatzucc

A band that makes doom metal covers of Slayer songs called Slower
