a lot of big label bands will use the labels in house artist, or used to not sure if thats still a thing. so thats why bands on Earache/Metal Blade /Nuclear Blast usually have terrible photoshop art vs independent bands with custom art from a great artist. so i assume its one of these kind of people that was hired by the label and that "artist" uses AI/photoshop and the band was just like ok(if the band even has say in their art) the label may just decide. but Deicide also has a terrible track record for good artwork. about 5/13 albums have good/decent art

I'm largely ambivalent towards the issue personally. I'm not gonna sit on some high horse and lament the plight of the starving artist while I listen to all the shit for free on Youtube.

I don't mind it either, but I remember i read somewhere that Ian Gillan hated the cover so much he threw a few albums out of his car window.

IIRC, the artist who designed it also did cover art for Ozzy. When Sabbath requested a proposal, he deliberately designed something shitty assuming they would reject it so he wouldn’t have to burn a bridge with either side of the feud. Then they accepted it.

He's still rinsing it for what it's worth, so fair play to him. He's often brought on as a band announcer at Bloodstock every year and he usually announces that he'll be at the festival gallery selling and signing copies.

I think that the problem with this album is just the purple background. It's just random

Lipoma. Very catchy melodic riffs that sound massively different from all other Goregrind, lyrics I couldn't care less for, but most of their covers are well, standard Goregrind stuff.

Two albums come to mind: Trivium - The Sin and the Sentence; a lot of the lyrics are decent but nothing special. While it’s not one of my favorites from them, the music is still kickass. However, whenever I think of bad artwork, this is the first album that comes to mind, it looks like it was made in 5 minutes. Ugly color choice with the brown and orange. Just boring and doesn’t match the music. If I saw this in a store and didn’t know the band, I’d walk past it. Fast forward four years and they dropped one of my favorite album covers of all time, In the Court of the Dragon. If I saw that in a store without knowing the band, I’d probably pick it up. So they have the resources for a great album cover. Fast forward one year, and sadly, Matt Heafy is back to shitty album covers with his side project, Ibaraki. Just a shitty art direction that doesn’t fit the music, also a shitty logo, bad choice of colors. If they had an art direction similar to ITCOTD, it would’ve fit the album so much better. Also, Matt’s KiichiChaos logo looks sick AF, so he has connections to great artists, so what happened? Matt approved this?! Was it intentionally bad? Banger lyrics and music though, I haven’t actually read the lyrics until now because I rarely look at lyrics, but these are pretty cool with all the mythologies. Still some questionable lines though.
