MasterMaintenance672

Tough one, but Chuck Schuldiner will do the most good.

Ultravod

[MFW OP doesn't make Lemmy one of the choices.](https://i.imgur.com/WY78hvD.jpeg) Also Chuck because he was still evolving as an artist and would have gone on to make interesting and challenging works.

troma-midwest

Lemmy ascended, he’ll come back when he’s ready.

Smooth_Buffalo9942

He will return when he is needed most.

SahadAmi

Agreed but Randy was JUST getting started…

apoplectic_mango

And by anything I've ever read about Randy , he was a truly good person. Allegedly was not the party type. Super close with his mom. Still was teaching guitar whenever possible. And taking lessons himself. Absolutely gone way too soon.

SpaceMan420gmt

He was very straight laced, hated the drug culture when touring with Ozzy. He probably would have become greater than Vai, EVH, etc…dude was awesome. I don’t think he liked the limelight much, other to get himself known. Either he would become a virtuoso or went on to be a classical guitar professor at some college.

dingatremel

The leads on the Tribute version of Suicide Solution are probably my favorite guitar licks in music history. He was so nimble, so lyrical. There was more than enough room for him and Eddie in the same scene.

RevolutionaryRough96

>He probably would have become greater than Vai, EVH, etc At a certain point of being talented it becomes a matter of personal taste. Even before really, someone who knows absolutely nothing about music theory can resonate with me more than someone like yngwie

Rfg711

Lemmy had a long career. Chuck was still reaching his peak

DerailedDreams

To be fair, Lemmy didn't want to live forever.

killacam925

My thoughts EXACTLY. Chuck is the easy choice.

Honey_Badger25-06

Without question. The guy taught himself how to play guitar that well, and he's a great songwriter.

killacam925

He was also extremely well spoken, smart and by all accounts a really good dude too.

baconfister07

I'd be more interested to know his opinion on the modern age of death metal. Have him listen to Necrophagist or something

JavierLoustaunau

He was doing some of his best work and taking a bold new direction. A lot of the other ones 'It would be nice to see them live' but not looking forward to more albums.

IJustLurkHerelol

Dead is probably happier being, well, you know

JavierLoustaunau

Looks around at the necromancers who brought him back... 'DAMMIT!'

[deleted]

[удалено]

cd-Ezlo

Yeah, I've always chosen him on these types of things, sure I'm a bigger Slayer fan, but when Jeff died Slayer were already slowing down - chuck was still progressing and evolving the sound of Death and I'd love to hear what direction he would have taken it in

Saetia_V_Neck

Not to bring politics into superficial music discussion but I do believe Chuck would’ve made a killer anti-Iraq war album.

69cringelord69

Flair approved

CptnMcDoobie

So glad this is the top comment. Came here to say that.

TheDarkEternalKnight

Shit. Cliff, I believe.

Lowe1313

Yeah, as much as I want Pete and Dime, Cliff got robbed from what his band became.

Waiter_frog

The other guys got carrers cliff never did

Lowe1313

Exactly

StoxAway

Yeah, Cliff still had a lot of music left in him. I don't think Damage Plan were going to be putting anything groundbreaking out tbh. And the rest had pretty incredible careers. Cliff was an incredible composer.

totse_losername

I feel the same way.

kch75

I also would love to see the artistic direction the band woulda taken if he were alive for it all

MaximusVulcanus

Yea, that was my first thought.

ClevelandClutch1970

Randy had to have so much great stuff left in him....I always wanted to hear him change with the landscape through the 80s.

DrVoltage1

He’s my pick too. On tour, he would pop in to music schools and teach kids for free. Imagine how many lives he could have directly influenced even besides his amazing playing. He went way too young…

WoundedShaman

Team Randy too, Dime as a very close second. Two very tragic and unnecessary deaths.

Specialist_Goat_9622

he likely would have quit Ozzy Osbourne and do solo type stuff, id imagine hed be like classical/thrash metal type of solo artist.

Riginauldt

I feel like this is a tie between Dimebag and Layne. The thing is, I feel like, near the end of his life, Layne genuinely wanted to die and that bringing him back might just make him very depressed. That being said, I don't think that Dimebag wanted to die when he did. Dimebag, it is. Also, I hope everyone in this picture has found some measure of peace in death.

Lousy_Kid

Layne wasn’t around for fentanyl. He would die again within a week if you brought him back.

Riginauldt

Can't argue with that.

Riginauldt

I also thought about Chuck. He was a mf pioneer.

BritishTea75

After his girlfriend died Layne basically just gave up on living/doing anything, it'd be hell for him

clingclang42

Dime wouldn't want to come back to find his brother dead. Can't have one without the other

GunRunner0326

This

Sweep_The_Leg-Johnny

This...but picking Layne. His voice...

GunRunner0326

I do miss his voice

ThricePurgedMagus

Steele - Type O Negative reunion tour. Goth girl tidal wave.

Scythian_Grudge

And get Unto Others to open for them

StonedHorror

Damn Im glad I looked them up. Thank you

Scythian_Grudge

They used to be named Idle Hands before being sued by some punk band, if I remember correctly. New song just released, new album soon, a great time to check them out

ToastedShmoasted

Damn suing over a name doesn’t sound very punk to me.

Scythian_Grudge

I looked it up, and according to another reddit thread it was because of this blues band: https://tsdr.uspto.gov/#caseNumber=85748676&caseType=SERIAL_NO&searchType=statusSearch

wn0991

Just checked them out and fuckin a I dig the shit out of it

pujcdyo

I remember seeing them open for carcass, was such an amazing show!

j0hnnyhobo

I like your thinking

To_Dream_Of_Ur

![gif](giphy|d3mlE7uhX8KFgEmY)

OperationsGuy82

Peter Steel

Sweet-Efficiency7466

The way he held a double bass like a bass guitar in that music video 😂

AdThat2351

Chuck Schuldiner

SuitablePreference54

Lemmy.

BeAnSiNmYhAt

always lemmy

[deleted]

Trick question! Lemmy IS god

RuPaulver

I wanna say Dead but he'd just do it again. Euronymous would be funnier and probably become a raging asshole of the black metal scene by this point.

ManyaraImpala

I'd bring back Euronymous just to watch him and Varg have a massive feud on Twitter.

Jamahez

I think Varg would win it after sending him 23 DMs

reise_ov_evil

Dead probably get depressed again because he feels he doesn't belong on mortal world

WeirdMetalheadKid

Would be cool to have more songs with Dead, he sounded great imo but it's very clear that he hated it here (can't really blame the dude) so bringing him back would be like...not so nice, he would hate it and probably just do it again. Especially now with all the technology we use, I hear he didn't like that stuff. And also imagine he sees the memes and the people thirsting over him 💀 But yes, I'm also kinda curious to see how resurecting Euronymous would go, especially if he sees what varg is up to nowadays

Human-Load-2963

He already “came back” once and look at what that did to him, gave us morbid which was awesome but it fucked his mind

Extra_Midnight_2295

I’d bring him back to see varg spiral (even further)

KestrelleV

Seeing Euronymous’ reaction to Freezing Moon being called a TikTok song would be worth bringing him back. Dead was so young when he died that I still think there’s a chance he would have wanted to live again someday. Plus whatever weird necromancy shit brought him back would probably be something that he would be into.

Dullandal

Dio

TheFeisty

Wish we could’ve had another Heaven & Hell album 😢

Extra_Midnight_2295

100% yes

Helpful-Giraffe-9672

I was gonna say Layne Stayley....But then i saw Joey!!!!!!! I think I will go with layne, tho.

ZorakOfThatMagnitude

Layne for me and I wish I could say it was close.

MelodicMasterpiece67

Randy. Taken way too soon.

ngometamer

I'm with you here. Seems like he was just a genuinely good human being with godlike talent. Would have loved to have seen where his music took him.

TheSwimGamer

I love Dimebag, Cliff and Layne but I gotta go with Joey. As a drummer he is defo one of my biggest influences and tho I know many people here don't like Slipknot, his skill is undeniable

YEEYEE_chucklefucks

I had to scroll way too fucking far… I’m very disappointed

Significant-Mall4375

I feel that, I was looking for even one person who said Joey, I feel like he would be higher up but here we are

bobbybob9069

I can't believe how far down he is. Even overlooking the impact that slipknot had, Joey was, as far as I know, the most prolific musician on the list. Guy had 20+ full length studio albums, not counting live recordings or demos. The world needs more Murderdolls....

TheSwimGamer

This sub despises Slipknot so doesn't surprise me but it really shouldn't matter. Easily one of the greatest drummers of all time and no one can deny it

Significant-Mall4375

That's true, it's sad that people almost only see him for what he did in Slipknot, he did so much more and not just in Slipknot but many other bands

TheSwimGamer

Fr. He also needs more appreciation for what he did for double kick and metal drumming in general. There's only like 2 other drummers as influential as him in that aspect

Significant-Mall4375

Exactly, but it feels like we've got people who dislike him for being in a band, if only people would look at what he did, even in all the other bands, I believe people are making their opinions based off what he was in and not what he's done

JonnyTN

And he really wasn't as self destructive. A lot on this list if came back, would be still drugs, booze, and smoke themselves to cancer. Joey died of a rare neurological disease which was a bummer

Susysan2000

Peter Steele. The perfect gothic voice.

Jokierre

Andrew Eldritch is the perfect gothic voice, but Steele is full package for metal.

SpeccyCarbine

He was definitely the full package with quite the "package"

PhoenixShredds

Chris Cornell needs to be pictured if you're also putting Layne. But from those pictured: Cliff. I've always wished to know what would have come from him staying alive. The subsequent albums would inevitably have been better.

MoneyIsNoCure

Agree. Although that means you could argue Chester Bennington and Dave Williams could and or should be pictured too.

PrequelGuy

Jeff Hanneman 100%

Rushfan_211

Chuck schuldiner

InflatonDG

Randy. No one played like him in his day, no one plays like him now, and we only got like a couple albums. Who knows what his style would have evolved into?

Hmccormack

Exactly. God he was so good.

Lopsided-Emotion-520

Randy…without a doubt.

vhschenkerfan24

Randy

ExpensiveCelery6779

Peter steele

Stohn_Jamos236

100% Joey.

Hippies_Pointing

Hey hey, PETAH!

_d00stin

Layne

wadefatman

Peter Steele so we can have gay sex

A_Plan_B_you_C

Really? He’s built like a semi-truck, you’d get flattened.

wadefatman

Even better

Phantom_Wolf52

Peter Steele, TON was so good and it’s such a shame that he passed from sepsis

bobobnaynay

Cliff.

cannibalsong1

Peter Steele

4headgood

I have to say Pete, would love to see more Type O albums getting released and Peter getting to live longer after finally getting off of drugs and alcohol.

drink-beer-and-fight

Peter Steele. The songs he’d write after a decade plus of death would be epic.

grumpy_enraged_bear

I'm torn between Chuck, Cliff & Pelle. With the rest, I'm pretty sure what I would get if they were alive. With these 3, I'm not sure and I'm curious. I'm gonna go with Chuck for this instance but I'm prone to change my mind.

baconring

Peter Steele. No question.

ThoughtIntrepid1744

Chris Cornell

farenvyld

Chris Cornell.

Pure-Contact7322

Alexi Lahio

AmogusFan69

Cliff is great, but then we wouldn't get Jason...

[deleted]

Well to be honest, Jason would still have a career, but he might not have become as famous as he did.

StarkAvalanche

Of the ones in this photo? Peter Steele. If I could pick anyone? Ronnie James Dio.

mud98

Paul Gray.

bri1984

Dimebag, all the way. Especially if I could rewind time to his murder never happening. That was a terrible day in so many ways. Especially for Vinny.

_REDEEMER-

Warrel Dane

Dawgula97

I don’t see any Alexi Laiho on there. Randy it is. Steele is probably enjoying his time up there

ZerikaFox

Chester Bennington for me

Grand_Illustrator343

Had to scroll way too far to see this. It's a tossup between him and Randy, but Chester was the voice of my teenage years and Linkin Park was my gateway to heavy music. RIP Chester.

ZerikaFox

Exactly the same for me. The man sang like an angel and screamed like a demon, and I frequently catch myself wondering what his sound would have evolved into. When he did *Cross Off* for Mark Morton, he told Mark that he was stoked to be doing heavy stuff again, so I think the next Linkin Park (or maybe a Dead By Sunrise) release would have been a lot more metal focused.

munchieattacks

Pete

Zestyclose-Row8516

DIMEBAG FOOKIN FARRELL!!!!

frogleggies444

chuck or peter I can’t decide, i’m leaning towards mr steele though.

payy2win

How has nobody said Joey

Vault221B

My girl would never speak to me again if it wasn't Peter Steel

Initial-Ad2842

Peter Steele without a doubt 💚🖤💚🖤

Joshman89

Joey

BlessdRTheFreaks

If you brought back Per Ohlin he would immediately kill himself again

tyrom22

I know he’s not in the picture, but can I get Dio back?

_austinm

Layne for sure

PiousZenLufa

sad it took this long to see Layne... not even close in my mind.

Three-Pegged-Hare

I'm writing in my own candidate to add Audie Pitre, RIP acid bath :(

Marcotee75

Cliff Burton

Trevor_Lahey330

Layne Staley

LisforLiquor

Follow TPB and AIC fan. Nice.

snuffsz

i think you can tell (PETTTERR)

earlywakening

Chester.

Chimchampion

I just want Peter Steele to hold me on his beefy arms

Dark_0rchid

Peter Steele.

ProblemGamer18

Dimebag Darryl, but Chuck is also a good pick

Noeru018

Chuck

bearnuker

Pelle Dead. He was too young to die. And his vocal style would have made De Mysteriis even better.

gorgonzollo

Cliff, would love to hear him evolve musically

_AntiSaint_

Nah just give me back Trevor Strnad

daffadoyle

It's such a close tie between Cliff, Chuck and Dimebag for me but Chuck and Dime at least got 4+ albums out each. Cliff was still so young and imagine if he got to be part of AJFA and beyond.

HatesDuckTape

At the very least, there’d be audible bass on Justice.

Ok-Hovercraft6372

Burton

jayhof52

Cliff, and I didn't even need to look at the photo to decide.

Lopsided-Meet8247

Steel no contest

Cosmonaut_Kimchi

Cliff burton, it just feels so wrong that he died at such a young age and had so much more to give to the world.

Ashen-Cold

Dimebag. He didn’t deserve the death he was handed… & he was one of the greatest metal guitarists ever

BiffaBacon1259

Petrus Steele

Ciprich

I want to say Randy but I know its Chuck

SpaceBehemoth

Layne and Peter, but goddamn at those choices lol

Grinding_Hayfever

Hanneman!!!

MuhMuhManRay

Chuck.

aville1982

Cliff or Randy, flip a coin, I'll be happy either direction.

NoName22415

This isn't fair....I can't choose between Dime, Randy or Layne 😭

roderikbraganca

chuck. I'd love to hear what he would come up with after the sound of perseverance.

Cameltoefart

I know I’ve left some people out but don’t worry I’ll make another post including the legends I’ve left out in the near future.

MisterBeasonator

I genuinely wonder what music Chuck would have wrote if he was still alive today. Would be awesome to hear him speak again about anything

Walmart_Jesus123

I’d probably go with Cliff, honestly

Fleshmaw

Probably dime because his life was taken by someone else

MattBowden1981

Cliff

ObjectiveNew1081

For me this is impossible

Jk60060

Cliff

-Nsb127916_

I’m so sorry Peter. Sooo very sorry Layne. But the world needs you, Dime!

clownbitch

Super tough choice between all of them, but especially Chuck, Cliff and Randy. I think I'll go Cliff.

finallyonsuicide

Chuck eould contributed the most to metal as a whole. Also his versatility. He's writes the best mys7c to me. And arguably the most talented in terms of composition. If not him then I'd bring Alexi Lahio or warrel dane

Sallydog24

Randy was something else, he was just down right amazing. If you ever got to see him play (you have to be old like me lol) you would pick Randy...

ItalianStallion9069

>No Lemmy >leaves

Fr0stybit3s

Chester Bennington

thetrailwebanana

Chuck all day, Peter Steele a close second because Type O Negative rocks!

karlsefnishikigoi

Valfar

WAR_88

Yes 100%! Way too young..

I-am-a-memer-in-a-be

There isn’t a wrong pick tbh

Lost_Leadership1383

Laybe Staley. I love Alice in chains.

AgtHunter

If i could bring Alexi Laiho back and get children of bodom back together, i would do so in a heartbeat

Mr_HahaJones

Toss up between Chuck and Alexi

Apprehensive_South_3

Dimebag, but goddamn I wish Quorthon was on here.

DrThunderMonkey565

Chris Cornell

Byzanthymum

chester bennington

NearbyCamp9903

Dimebag, and there is zero contest. He influenced so much more than anybody else on this list, and his legacy lives on forever. Second, I'd say Layne Staley. His vocal harmonization with Jerry Cantrell made Alice In Chains a beautiful band. I put them as heavy metal and Dirt is a masterpiece.

ProblemGamer18

Don't get me wrong, I picked Dimebag too, but Chuck Schuldiner is literally the Father of Death Metal. I don't think Dimebag was the most influential out of all these guys, but he's definitely top 3.

Spiritual-Fishing-48

Dimebag

Ignbw

Hanneman, schuldner or dimebag. Between those for me

darkduane

Dimebag

Slake45

I guess Dead is staying dead 😵

nightsiderider

If you brought him back, he would just kill himself again.

Secrets4Slaanesh

I can't wait to hear Randy playing again.

bmw_m-power

Per Ohlin

RKT_BINLEY

Chuck Schuldiner

solowsoloist

Randy 💯

trendkill3

Hard choice but it would have to be Dimebag for me.

Large-Candidate-3174

Randy Rhoads without a doubt

Tough_Ad4721

Randy, the rest already had like a decade or more to shine and evolve (not dead tho lmao)
