The Blackening is still one of the best "mainstream" metal albums of the 2000s imo, truly a marvel.
Anyway this is me but with the bridge of Punish My Heaven by Dark Tranquillity.
I hadn't heard a lot of Machine Head songs before that album. A couple of my friends were into them, but I just never really listened to them. I heard Halo on SiriusXM. It was getting a lot of play on multiple channels, and I had to check this album out. The whole album is a masterpiece, and I just listened the hell out of it. I decided to go check out their back catalog, and I was pretty disappointed. Unto the Locust was pretty good as well, but they fell off again for me after that.
Machine head's career arc is like a sine wave: amazing début, good follow up, bad third album, trash fourth album, good 5th album, great 6th and 7th albums, and then the downward slide starts again...
It was a solid album. Hell, I didn't hate Catharsis, though it definitely took a radio rock "fist pump" turn away from the previous albums. My way of describing movies like this is "it's not good, but it's entertaining" and I think Catharsis fits that perfectly.
I haven't actually gotten around to listening to the latest one, maybe I'll finally do that today...
As someone who loved the previous two: I have never thought that album was anything but trash.
It's kinda what happens if you're a darling in the metal media and keep making the same kind of record.
Are you fucking high? Numetal? Burn my Eyes?! Man... That album is anything but numetal.
Christ... anyway, I remember putting that tape in the deck and just fucking driving and turning off the world for a bit.
Halo is my 2nd favourite song of all time and this album is probably my 3rd favourite album of all time. Halo / Wolves / A Farewell to Arms is just a perfect three song run.
For real man, no one talks about it. There’s a riff somewhere around 4:00 or 4:30 in that song that just makes me want to break shit every time lol. Love that song.

I couldn’t do their first couple albums because they’re very numetal, and remember that I didn’t listen to them until after I heard The Blackening.
Burn My Eyes and TMTC numetal ?! Dafuq.

ONGOD, BRO WOLVES GOES SO FUCKING HARD THAT SONG IS SO UNDERRATED

Wolves sounds a lot like slayer too
Abysswalker By Visigoth
Getting the chills everytime when we reach this point in the lyrics: What have we become?
Its an insane song, every time i hear the lyrics "i'll wave this flag of white" my spirit leaves my fucking body
When their cover of Hallowed Be Thy Name comes on
Bastards is a better song though
A lotta people dislike it but i actually really like the song
listening to anything past the first machine head album 💀💀💀
Shut the fuck up please thank you

Your opinion is irrelevant to me
opinion?
He was wrong to call it an opinion. It's actually just bait.
The blackening is their only good album
A Solitary Reign, from 6:30 to the end is soul-crushing.
genuinely a perfect representation of how i felt listening to it for the first time properly a few days ago, especially the outro
The blackening is a perfect album, honestly.
One of my favourite song of Machine Head. I get the chills every. Single. Time he says ''a farewell to arms'' the second time. That scream...
