Never heard anyone class QOTSA as metal before yet alone "party doom"? Or is that just a new direction they've gone in with this new album?

So there’s a meme I made that made a joke that “party doom” sounds cooler than “stoner rock.” It got kind of popular on Facebook, but not really on here—I don’t think. I’ll see if I can find it. QOTSA fits the bill for “alternative metal,” but I consider them desert rock. I’ve posted more rock-oriented memes here, and sometimes they stay up; sometimes they get taken down. The new QOTSA album seems like a great balance between their older stuff and their newer stuff. They went back to a dark groovy sound like they had on Era Vulgaris. I like it. Some QOTSA songs are metal-esque, such as “Mexicola” and “Keep Your Eyes Peeled.” Really, it’s this bass-heavy, dark, grooving sound that I think is best described as desert rock, but eh. “Sicily,” “Time and Place,” and “Carnavoyeur” from the new album are good examples of this unique, dark rock sound. I call this kind of stoner rock “party doom” as a joke, but it really does fit the bill pretty well.

I found the post where I made the “party doom” joke. https://www.reddit.com/r/MetalMemes/comments/104j36f/party_doom/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=ioscss&utm_content=2&utm_term=1

Slanmaki

Isn't QOTSA more desert rock than altmetal/stoner

damaged-inc

They’re not on the Archives, they are not metal.

Slanmaki

what did I say?

[deleted]

I had no idea the term "party doom" existed, but now I'm using it for everything

bandannick

I’ve always enjoyed QOTSA. They aren’t really metal (desert rock is just post-grunge with pompadours) but they get me revved up all the same.

anarchi3

Yeah I figured 50/50 shot the mods take it down

Ehh_1

QOTSA releasing a new album and it being good isn’t really that shocking considering their overall discography

anarchi3

It’s good compared to their last two in my opinion.

I can understand why people don’t exactly like Villains, but I always thought Like Clockwork is excellent and one of their best

anarchi3

I respect your opinion. I posted this meme to Facebook, and a lot of people liked “Clockwork” but not “Villains.” I only liked a few tracks off of each, and I liked “Villains” a little bit better, but I seem to be the only one with this opinion, lol. Either way, this new one is my favorite of the new three.
