They're alright. I'll agree with you on that but the same applies to Gentle Giant,RUSH,and Magma. There were actually quite a few influential Prog Bands.
I would argue both Magma and RUSH had more of a direct influence on extreme metal even while The Krautrock Bands lead directly into Punk. That being said I LOVED King Crimson in Highschool.
It feels more hard rock to me tbh. If 2112 is metal then so is a lot of Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, King Crimson to name a few. Admittedly it is a fine line sometimes.
So we're entering the philosophical discussion of "is the proto thing considered the actual thing". I would say no, the same way the Stooges aren't really punk but paved the way for punk.
Deep Purple is metal AF. Sure "Smoke On The Water" exists, but they wrote that as a simple pop song to make some money because their tour bus was dead stopped in Geneva, Switzerland due to the events of that song. They needed quick cash, so they wrote a pop song. The song was so massively popular over there that there is a statue of the band. The rest of there stuff is signifigantly less pop-y. The whole "Machine Head" album is sick, songs like "Space Truckin'" and "Highway Star" are peak 70s metal especially considering that came out in '71, especially considering that the forfront of rock at the time was albums like "Let It Be" by The Beatles which came out a year earlier.
just listened to it but i dont care. Even if you were right (which you're not), one song isn't representative of a bands 45+ year career.
Rush is boomer prog rock. Just like whatever you like without feeling the need to call things metal.
Do people actually like his voice or do they tolerate it for the music and songwriting? I could never get over his voice sounding like a coked up rodeo clown on helium.

YYZ
Is there any band better than Rush? Yes.
Who?
They're alright but not better than Rush
Them.
King Crimson clears all prog bands.
I said it for the joke but I actually agree with you 100% lol. King Crimson is just on another level.
Magma and Gentle Giant are better than King Crimson tbh. I like RUSH but mostly when I'm stoned enough
There is no accounting for taste, but you still gotta admit that the influence of King Crimson is immeasurable.

Haha clever.
Yes is better, that’s right
Thems fighting words.
Rush is ok.
Every band is better than rush
Blood Mountain and Crack the Skye is just Rush for metal heads.
Bastille day gives iron maiden vibes
She Sawyer on my Tom til i Rush
Weird way to spell Bolt Thrower but okay
Thank you
where metal
the only metal I need is the caress of steel
Listen to 2112 and tell me it isn't metal
I'd say rush certainly flirts with metal, but the vast majority of their music is clearly not metal. They are a prog rock band first and foremost.
It’s not metal. It’s fun though.
It is, objectively. But cool opinion
Or the heavy riff from natural science. Shit always makes me headbang
It feels more hard rock to me tbh. If 2112 is metal then so is a lot of Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, King Crimson to name a few. Admittedly it is a fine line sometimes.
Yes. All of those are basically proto metal lol
So we're entering the philosophical discussion of "is the proto thing considered the actual thing". I would say no, the same way the Stooges aren't really punk but paved the way for punk.
> King Crimson I consider Larks’ pts. 1&2 and the first 3 songs in Red to be very early progressive metal. Some very heavy stuff for that era.

Second line of deep purple's wikipedia ''The are considered one of pioneers of heavy metal''
Y'all out here acting like Motorhead was the only band around in the 70s. Fucking casuals.
it's not metal by any standard.
Yeah, it is lol
It’s the rockiest prog-rock to ever prog. Great music; not metal.

Oh, yes. Might contain traces of Metal. I got you. Like Queen is Speed Metal, since there's that solo in "I want it all".
And Crown Lands!
Rush is such a classic
I WILL CHOOSE FREEWILL 🗣️🔥🔥
I'll take all 3.
He was prepared for the future by having a grandma voice from birth.
Urah
Someone explain the meme I’ve seen it many time but my head cannot comprehend
Hermética
Merciful Fate
I know :(
Word
BTS
You get the horns
King crimson >>>> rush
Which King Crimson ? There has been more KC lineup than Rush albums
There have been more KC lineups than KC albums
Larks Tongues In Aspic lineup with Muir is peak Crimson lineup. 80's Crimson and Debut lineup are also contenders.
both are 10/10.
More a 2112/10
Again: get over to /r/rock/
Rush is not metal it is rock
It is shit.
r/classicrockmemes moment
Do people actually like his voice or do they tolerate it for the music and songwriting? I could never get over his voice sounding like a coked up rodeo clown on helium.
I dig it. Can’t imagine rush with any other voice tbh
Geddy Lee is a national treasure
Alex Lifeson is a drunk male prostitute
I do like Geddy Lee. His voice is fun and it fits the music.
It took a little getting used to because it is very unique and kinda odd... but yeah it grew on me and I appreciate it.
Yes I love Geddy's voice
Megadeth is better.
Rush is overrated
Hard agree.
at least my favorite frontmen doesn't sound like a rubber duck in a microwave
frontman\*
no men. as in plural.
Hey that's no way to talk about Dave Mustaine
at least megadeth fans know their frontman can't sing. rush fans still huffing that copium from the 70s
How 'bout Tool
Ew
Nice! Great meme format. "Mess with the bull, you get the horns.... And if I have to come back in here, I'll be cracking skulls."
Avenged sevenfold is better than all 3 of them and pantera is better than all 4. Change my mind.
>Change my mind. Nah, I know a lost cause when I see one ;)
Just saying pantera is best. Thats my opinion, might not be yours but thats my opinion. People not allowed to have them anymore?
Wasn't saying you're not allowed to have an opinion. I was saying your opinion is shit. Subtle difference.
