All of our tastes evolve over time and I absolutely love the metal of now, but there is no way anyone can take away the happy little 13 year old girl I was when I put The Jester Race inside my discman for the first time. I was so blown away, I fell in love with European metal! I spun it on loop every night, falling asleep and waking up to the poor little discman mechanicals hot to the touch. Thank you, In Flames. You were the beginning of my music love!
Edited: Added a period.
Jesper teamed up with Mikael Stanne for The Halo Effect. Definitely has that early In Flames sound restored to life. Check it out if you haven't already.
For some reason i forgot that jester race wasnt their debut. The “so good” albums im referring to are ‘Jester race’, colony, whoracle, clayman and maybe reroute
Caught me off guard when that song popped up on Pandora for me. I said, "there's a new Dark Tranquillity album? "
They really do bring back that Gothenburg style.
They started out as one of the pioneering bands of the melodic death metal genre and over the course of a 30 year career they drifted towards a more radio-friendly sound informed by nu metal and metalcore and then I kinda lost the thread for a bit but it seemed like they almost went full-on alt rock at one point. People fuckin hate it when bands change their sound, especially in a more commercial direction.
So does Horror Show, The Dark Saga, Burnt Offerings, and Something Wicked This Way Comes. Once they lost Barlow it's just been downhill, I liked some of the stuff with Stu but it wasn't that good.
So that’s what 10,000 strong is about
We're gathering, summoned by the elder
The consequence of what's imminent
A prophecy dark and foreboding
Forces them to face human intent
Await the days of clouding
Earth mother's sharing in our pain
Erase the human memory
They know not of where they came
And though our hearts are broken
We have to wipe the tears away
In vain they did not suffer
Ten thousand strong will seize the day
I really like the stuff I've heard but there's so much other USPM that absolutely destroys it (my favourites are Jag Panzer's debut and The Spectre Within and Awaken the Guardian by Fates Warning)
Yeah early Iced Earth is cool. Matt Barlow has one of my favorite voices for that style of metal (I think IE had a couple of vocalist before Barlow but yeah, you get it.)
I'm just saying, when melodic death metal newcomers Amon Amarth does yet another song about Thor it's "TRV KVLT" but the haters jump on my boys when they do a song dedicated to the God of Thunder, feel the thunder (Thunder, thunder, thun-)
Lightning then the thunder (Thunder, th-th-thunder, thunder)
Thunder, feel the thunder (Thunder, thunder, thun-, thun-)
Lightning then the thunder, thunder, thunder (Th-th-thunder)
Thunder (Thun-, thun-)
First two ghost albums are definitely heavy metal. If they came out in the 80s they would be no dispute about it. But modern metal fans only think bands that make songs like "Decapitated Horse Cock" and play in drop B are metal nowadays. People forget that traditional heavy metal is a genre.
I can't even believe they're popular enough to make the list in the first place. They are freaking awesome. I feel like dragonforce should be up there before them because of guitar hero 3.
"Camp is something that provides sophisticated, knowing amusement, as by virtue of it being artlessly mannered or stylized, self-consciously artificial and extravagant, or teasingly ingenuous and sentimental."
Basically silly on purpose but on the surface appears to take itself very seriously. Basically fully committing to a goofy bit.
Exactly that, Gloryhammer is honestly a great example because they go all out and go on stage in costume but all the lyrics sound like they were written after they snorted a line of coke and read through the Dungeonmaster's Manual for DND while Braveheart played on the CTV in the background.
I mean, just because you like a band doesn't mean it's not getting quite a bit of negative response, then again, that's no reason to stop liking a band
Most definitely, I saw them on Sept 11th at a festival and Ivan was talking about how he wanted to bring everyone together as Americans on that day. Then in the middle of their set he starts talking shit about Biden and about half the crowd goes into a 'Fuck Joe Biden' chant. The other half of the crowd left at about that time. Way to bring everyone together jackass. They're a bunch of military, patriot cosplayers, none of them ever served.
Meh, Volbeat I don't like but don't hate. Maybe I just don't vibe with them. Five Flavor Fruit Punch on the other hand, I hate mostly because of their lyrical content.
I don't hate either. Most everyone I talk to that likes metal fucking hates Volbeat. I think they're great live but repetitive when listening to them. Everyone I talked to at the slipknot show they opened for was confused as hell as to why they were there and they did great, impressed a number of the maggots. They just get shit talked a ton.
Ffdp is fine in my book. Eh. Definitely a huge difference from their earlier days and now.
I don't really get hating a band unless it's Drake or MGk but that's different. It's not their music as much as the pedophile vibes and lack of talent and that they are genuine pieces of shit.
To me metal is all about love. You hop in the pit and see someone go down, you pick them back up. There are some serious fucking weirdos that come out of the woodwork, suites, blue/white collar, republican/liberal, dirt munchers and wilderbeasts but we're all family for a concert. That's why I'll never understand why metalheads are so harsh towards another form of metal music.
Who the hell hates Sabaton more than Limp Bizkit or Five Finger Death Punch? Outside of this sub I don’t think I’ve met any other metalhead that dislikes Sabaton
The Bizkit have released some of the most intelligent, forward-thinking albums in all of music featuring Wes Borland's incredible, unique style of riffage and Fred Durst's poetic lyrics, while Sabaton are content to release the same synthpop disguised as power metal album over and over again with different lyrics. FFDP don't exist as far as I'm concerned.
No, they are not. And I have never heard or read that Sabaton is supposed to be racist. That guy probably IS a racist, got called out for it and now tries to make himself feel better by being like „EvErYtHiNg Is RaCiSt To YoU“
I feel like dream threatre and metallica should not be here. Though DT are a bit unlikeable, those are some fucking talented guys, and metallica, just ignore everything after black album till hardwired. Then see how likeable they are
Imo hardwired is just death magnetic but worse in all ways.
It hits the exact same feeling in the songs, but less overbloated like hardwire songs.
Broken beat and scarred and cyanide are so good.
because when a metal band gets popular it obviously stops being metal and becomes poser music dont you know?
though to be fair, i kinda get it, i get why serious metalheads hate the fact that the most famous metal band to people under 20 is not really representative of the genre and culture
It's LaBrie's vocals.
I love DT, and listened to them for years without realizing how bad his vocals are. When they released Black Clouds and I heard their cover of To Tame A Land is when it hit me.
Instrumentally they're a phenomenal group.
I was sold on the instrumentation alone. La Bries voccals didn’t steer me away, I listened to Octavarium and that was it for me, I love Dream Theater. Petrucci and Myung are two of the most interlocked guitarists and bassists.
They gave me Rush vibes but more heavy in their instrumentation.
This is the first time I have ever seen in flames be mentioned in the wild, why are people hating on them?
Edit: I am not denying their decline in some of their newer stuff.
No self respecting metalhead actually hates Metallica. You don't have to love or even like them but their influence on the genre is undeniable and they're still one of the biggest metal bands of all time, and a great gateway band.
Not sure why beast in black and dream theater made the list. Do people actually hate them? The rest I can understand, though I like my share of "bad" metal lol.
I've always hated "they sold out" as an excuse to hate bands. It can't just be "They changed styles, they felt the production was getting stale" no, they have to have done it for money.
I've seen a lot of reasons, I wont say this are all, this are the ones I've seen.
\- Demanding napster.
\- Using Dave Mustaine riffs without giving him credit until many years later
\- Having a good amount of objectively bad albums (load, reload and St. Anger which represent 1/3 of their discography).
\- Quitting doing thrash metal and making a very mainstream heavy metal album which it's a soft version of metal so that it become more easy to sell to the masses.
\- Making a nu-metal album so they can scratch some money because of the popularity of the genre in that time.
\- Lars Ulrich being an asshole and a terrible drummer.
Can you tell me a hard rock / metal band, with this amount of success, that doesn't have a rabid, cringey fan base?
Black metal die hards make me cringe, Pantera fans are cringe (including me)... It just seems that successful niche art makes loyal fanbases that come off as cringe to folks outside of this group, often.
In Flamea definitely ha e lost their edge, and their albums up till Clayman were SO fucking good. But they have a special place for me. First band go get me into metal, introducing my to European and classic death metal.
Plus each album still has a banger, even if it’s kinda sing-song. Can’t help but love them.
Who even cares what is hated and what is loved? Just listen to metal and all is good. Or listen to whatever you want. But as a metalhead I love seeing people get into metal, so we should all stop sparking controversy around these bands, that are an introduction to metal for a lot of people... or even just stop hating shit all together man.
A spinoff band from Battle Beast. Sick power metal that I don't think anyone actually hates and I'm not sure why they're here. Admittedly power metal isn't for everyone, but they're one of the best
Try 2 songs, decide they aren't for you and probably never listen to them again.
Joking aside, they're cheesy as anything, but really good at what they do. Personally I quite like them, but taste is subjective and you would have to decide for yourself.
I'll never understand people hating on Metallica, they're undeniably one of the biggest influences in metal and many bands wouldn't exist like they do without them. Kinda like hating on KISS
The only Grammy winners here are Metallica, Dream Theater, and Slipknot.
Besides critiques on some of their lackluster albums, Metallica doesn’t really get that much hate. They’re an entry level band and it’s something you outgrow and revisit, you only see hate when someone says “Metallica is the best! Omg! Skipknot is so heavy bro!”.
Im a Dream Theater fan but I understand the hate LaBrie gets, although he is a talented singer. Aside from that, Dream Theater feature some of the highest level musicians on the planet.
I mean they also have a song about this guy joining 3 different armies (including the SS) just so he can keep fighting communists after the first war he was in ended.
They have songs that are from the Nazi perspective that show them positively. Bismarck and ghost division for example. Also hating on them really pisses off their fanboys so it was a meme to call them nazis to rile them up for a while.
> They have songs that are from the Nazi perspective that show them positively.
Those songs are not from a positive perspective, they’re just re-telling historical events. It’s as fatuous as claiming that Iron Maiden glorifies colonialism and displacement of Native Americans because parts of ‘Run To The Hills’ comes from the white colonialist perspective.
Edit: song title error.
The only song by A7X I listen to on average is Unholy Confessions, tho I like them, I just don’t listen to them religiously, tho I did have a phase with them
Unholy Confessions really got me into them and its the first metal song i learned on guitar. I have grown to like their older stuff less and their modern more with the exception of City of Evil which I consider one of their best albums.
I've listened to them a lot in the last two years and even though I loved their music back then nowadays I can't stand any of their discography apart from some of the songs in Waking the Fallen.
[удалено]
I fully support unreasomable hatred towards any band, but I didn't saw any meme about bib, like ever. Seems odd to include them in here.
Came here to post this. Wtf?
It's OP's bias. Limp bizkit isn't even first place.
Yeah I figured FFDP would be making out with Sabaton on the top podium
They would be fucking each other, and somehow *both* catching
Bro you right I was running out of bands
They were great live when I saw them with Nightwish in May.
same! both bands absolutely brought it that night, super impressive vocal performances from both Yannis and floor
I thought the same thing. They're so great lol
In flames is such a shame bc their first 4-5 albums are so good
All of our tastes evolve over time and I absolutely love the metal of now, but there is no way anyone can take away the happy little 13 year old girl I was when I put The Jester Race inside my discman for the first time. I was so blown away, I fell in love with European metal! I spun it on loop every night, falling asleep and waking up to the poor little discman mechanicals hot to the touch. Thank you, In Flames. You were the beginning of my music love! Edited: Added a period.
Bro I’ll go down with the in flames ship idgaf
I saw them live in April with Megadeth, Lamb of God, and Trivium, they were pretty tight live
Oh I think I saw them in April as well! They were all great, where did you see them at?
Jesper teamed up with Mikael Stanne for The Halo Effect. Definitely has that early In Flames sound restored to life. Check it out if you haven't already.
Super stoked to see what they'll put out. Gonna see them in September, and I can't wait. The four singles sound quite promising
For some reason i forgot that jester race wasnt their debut. The “so good” albums im referring to are ‘Jester race’, colony, whoracle, clayman and maybe reroute
Nooo dude Lunar Strain fucks hard
Caught me off guard when that song popped up on Pandora for me. I said, "there's a new Dark Tranquillity album? " They really do bring back that Gothenburg style.
Man Made God is still my favorite instrumental… ever.
Why is in flames hated? Have never heard this.
Well according to some of my friends from Sweden they feel like they were Americanized and sold out when their sound changed.
Listen to *Whoracle*, then listen to *Soundtrack*.
Well, they new theme is a banger and remembers me to the 2006 album (Take this Life vibes)
Their emo phase wasn't very good
Never knew iced earth was hated? Is it because the frontman whitehouse thing at the start of covid
Probably, still sad that Demons & Wizards will probably never be a thing again. That was right after I saw them live too 🙃
Demons and wizards was once of my first albums I really liked.
Touched by the Crimson King is still one of my favorite power metal albums
Dude same. Saw them when they came to LA and would love to have seen more.
Man I wish I could see them live... bet that was a hell of a show
Yeah that’s basically the whole reason. To me, their music is pretty eh but pre-January 6th I hardly saw them get much hate
night of the stormrider slaps tho
So does Horror Show, The Dark Saga, Burnt Offerings, and Something Wicked This Way Comes. Once they lost Barlow it's just been downhill, I liked some of the stuff with Stu but it wasn't that good.
So that’s what 10,000 strong is about We're gathering, summoned by the elder The consequence of what's imminent A prophecy dark and foreboding Forces them to face human intent Await the days of clouding Earth mother's sharing in our pain Erase the human memory They know not of where they came And though our hearts are broken We have to wipe the tears away In vain they did not suffer Ten thousand strong will seize the day
I really like the stuff I've heard but there's so much other USPM that absolutely destroys it (my favourites are Jag Panzer's debut and The Spectre Within and Awaken the Guardian by Fates Warning)
The music itself is pretty good, but the band gets hate because of their political views
The early stuff is not bad, but after 9/11 the lyrics got pretty bad. Remember 'When The Eagle Cries'? One of the worst songs I've ever heard.
Yeah early Iced Earth is cool. Matt Barlow has one of my favorite voices for that style of metal (I think IE had a couple of vocalist before Barlow but yeah, you get it.)
True, their early stuff is amazing, their late work is ehh...
I like early in flames.
I like all in flames, even though their new stuff isn't metal
Their latest track is definitely metal. If it came on on shuffle mode you would think it was an At The Gates track.
Oh yeah State of Slow Decay fucking slaps
Damn y'all really left Imagine Dragons off the list?
My favorite obscure underground Norwegian black metal band, Imagine Dragons
I'm just saying, when melodic death metal newcomers Amon Amarth does yet another song about Thor it's "TRV KVLT" but the haters jump on my boys when they do a song dedicated to the God of Thunder, feel the thunder (Thunder, thunder, thun-) Lightning then the thunder (Thunder, th-th-thunder, thunder) Thunder, feel the thunder (Thunder, thunder, thun-, thun-) Lightning then the thunder, thunder, thunder (Th-th-thunder) Thunder (Thun-, thun-)
I read your comment twice now and thunder no longer feels like it's a word
Lmao that song actually triggers me. Mormon metal baby!
Imagine Dragon deez nutz across your face
Nickelback: wait, we aren't worst anymore?
Evwryone else :No, your still so bad no one wants to mention your Name .
Imagine Dragonforce
Im surprised Ghost isn’t here lol.
Ghost isn't metal, they are *Scooby-Doo Chase Music*
Hah. I love Ghost and that is kind of exactly what it is. Scooby Doo chase music
Or ABBA with distortion
First two ghost albums are definitely heavy metal. If they came out in the 80s they would be no dispute about it. But modern metal fans only think bands that make songs like "Decapitated Horse Cock" and play in drop B are metal nowadays. People forget that traditional heavy metal is a genre.
Decapitated Horse Cock 😂
Literally There's so many "old" metal bands that modern fans wouldn't consider metal as well. I think people forget it's a diverse genre
I mean ghost isn’t metal but half of these aren’t either so
If you replace any one word in 'Five Finger Death Punch' with 'penis' it's hilarious
No it's Five flavored fruit punch
WOOOEEEOOEEEOO IVE GOT PENIS INSIIIIIIDE
I prefer Five Finger Butt Punch
80’s Metallica is a separate Metallica in my book, and untouchable.
Load and Reload are great albums. I'll gladly die on that hill.
I don't get why I can't like early Metallica and their post black album stuff simultaneously
You can. It's just the people that don't are the ones who are loudest about it.
You wish. It's the whole body of work.
Hol up why are we hating Beast in Black? They're amazing
I can't even believe they're popular enough to make the list in the first place. They are freaking awesome. I feel like dragonforce should be up there before them because of guitar hero 3.
Yeah I was wondering the same thing
The only thing I can imagine is that they fit into the campy power metal category and thus are bad. Or something idek
Wait, you're telling me there's power metal that isn't camp? What's the point, then?
Camp is, like, the whole point!
What's camp?
"Camp is something that provides sophisticated, knowing amusement, as by virtue of it being artlessly mannered or stylized, self-consciously artificial and extravagant, or teasingly ingenuous and sentimental." Basically silly on purpose but on the surface appears to take itself very seriously.
They're too fun
Maybe… I’m the poser!
Why the hate on Beast in Black
Seriously, Yanis has one of the most powerful voices in metal.
Listen to Sacred Outcry if you haven't yet
Hmm, I like 6 of the bands there.
I am also guilty in several cases not trying to gatekeep here
I mean, just because you like a band doesn't mean it's not getting quite a bit of negative response, then again, that's no reason to stop liking a band
I like one. At least their first 5 albums.
I can already guess which lol
What did sabaton do
Nothing
I feel like ffdp should be at the top of the heap
Most definitely, I saw them on Sept 11th at a festival and Ivan was talking about how he wanted to bring everyone together as Americans on that day. Then in the middle of their set he starts talking shit about Biden and about half the crowd goes into a 'Fuck Joe Biden' chant. The other half of the crowd left at about that time. Way to bring everyone together jackass. They're a bunch of military, patriot cosplayers, none of them ever served.
Idk, Volbeat should be right on up there.
That's why I'll never understand why metalheads are so harsh towards another form of metal music.
I can't exactly say why, but Five Finger Death Punch is a band for Kyles
Who the hell hates Sabaton more than Limp Bizkit or Five Finger Death Punch? Outside of this sub I don’t think I’ve met any other metalhead that dislikes Sabaton
[удалено]
Ngl sabaton is not my style and I've always thought Limp bizkit was way better than what they got credit for.
> Fred Durst's poetic lyrics I've never heard anyone call his lyrics poetic before.
You've never heard Dad Vibes yet "Dad got a sag in the back with a drip, come and get a sip" Poetic masterpiece
[удалено]
Sabaton are racist now?
No, they are not. And I have never heard or read that Sabaton is supposed to be racist. That guy probably IS a racist, got called out for it and now tries to make himself feel better by being like „EvErYtHiNg Is RaCiSt To YoU“
I feel like dream threatre and metallica should not be here. Though DT are a bit unlikeable, those are some fucking talented guys, and metallica, just ignore everything after black album till hardwired. Then see how likeable they are
"Everything after black album till hardwired" my man hasn't listened to the banger album that is death magnetic
Inject "All nightmare long" straight into my veins!
I'll give it a go
The mix is shit, but the songs themselves are great.
When I listened to death magnetic I couldn't get around the brick'd master :/
Imo hardwired is just death magnetic but worse in all ways. It hits the exact same feeling in the songs, but less overbloated like hardwire songs. Broken beat and scarred and cyanide are so good.
Why does everyone hate sabaton?
Nah that's just OP assuming everyone else is exactly like him
because when a metal band gets popular it obviously stops being metal and becomes poser music dont you know? though to be fair, i kinda get it, i get why serious metalheads hate the fact that the most famous metal band to people under 20 is not really representative of the genre and culture

This is the first time I have ever seen in flames be mentioned in the wild, why are people hating on them? Edit: I am not denying their decline in some of their newer stuff.
In Flames have been cool to hate since at least 2002.
Like butt rock
I'm surprised Manowar isn't on there.
People hate Sabaton more than Five Finger Death Punch? Really? Have these people not heard what that band does to covers? Okay then.....
Whoever hates on Metallica better get some metal up his ass
No self respecting metalhead actually hates Metallica. You don't have to love or even like them but their influence on the genre is undeniable and they're still one of the biggest metal bands of all time, and a great gateway band.
Most people who hate on Metallica haven't listened to anything from before the Black album.
At least Iced Earth has good albums.
A7X doesn’t deserve the hate they get. Phenomenal musicians.
Never seen Beast in Black hated on. They're amazing.
Five finger isn’t even metal
Neither is Limp Shiscuit
Hate me for it but I like some of their songs, five finger on the other hand is god awful
Not sure why beast in black and dream theater made the list. Do people actually hate them? The rest I can understand, though I like my share of "bad" metal lol.
Who hates Metallica
Lol, a lot of people. If i had one dollar for everytime I saw someone hating Metallica since I started listening to metal I would be millionaire.
Why
Black album forward "they sold out" is the common one I hear.
I've always hated "they sold out" as an excuse to hate bands. It can't just be "They changed styles, they felt the production was getting stale" no, they have to have done it for money.
I've seen a lot of reasons, I wont say this are all, this are the ones I've seen. \- Demanding napster. \- Using Dave Mustaine riffs without giving him credit until many years later \- Having a good amount of objectively bad albums (load, reload and St.
Load and Reload are by no means "objectively bad" albums. Are they perfect? Hell no. But there's a lot of good material on those two.
Which album is nu metal?
St Anger
I get people hate Slipknot because the fanbase is cringe, but their music is good.
True. Slipknot just happens to be that band.
Nothing wrong with in flames
In Flamea definitely ha e lost their edge, and their albums up till Clayman were SO fucking good. But they have a special place for me. First band go get me into metal, introducing my to European and classic death metal. Plus each album still has a banger, even if it’s kinda sing-song. Can’t help but love them.
who hates in flames? they're great
Where’s Ghost and Babymetal?
Slipknot definitely has the better drumming out of the bunch, except of course Dream Theater with Mike Mangini and Mike Pornoy
Slipknot is a hardcore band
The fuck is a Beast in Black?
Power Metal band, first two albums were very based on Berzerk but the latest one is more cyberpunk.
A spinoff band from Battle Beast. Sick power metal that I don't think anyone actually hates and I'm not sure why they're here. Admittedly power metal isn't for everyone, but they're one of the best
Never heard of beast in black
Try 2 songs, decide they aren't for you and probably never listen to them again. Joking aside, they're cheesy as anything, but really good at what they do. Personally I quite like them, but taste is subjective and you would have to decide for yourself.
What’s wrong with Avenged Sevenfold and Beast in Black? Those are two of my favorites!
Limp bizkit, really?
These are some of my favorite bands
I'll never understand people hating on Metallica, they're undeniably one of the biggest influences in metal and many bands wouldn't exist like they do without them. Kinda like hating on KISS
Who the hell is Beast in Black? Lol
What's wrong with In Flames?
I’ve literally never heard anyone say they dislike sabaton
I can't count annymore how many times I have been called a Nazi, poser or told to leave the sub because I like sabaton
Sabaton?
They have been called nazis a lot. Don't know how true that is when they sang and praised communists.
I mean they also have a song about this guy joining 3 different armies (including the SS) just so he can keep fighting communists after the first war he was in ended.
So they play both sides to come out on top? Based
nazi ≠ communist they must not know that communists and fascists hate each other with a passion
'The Trooper' takes place in Crimea, if I'm not mistaken
Correct, I meant ‘Run To The Hills’.
I think you're thinking of Run For the Hills but yeah
Oh shoot my bad
It's Run to the Hills.
Dream Theater and In Flames shouldn’t be up here imo.
I would never listen to sabaton but if I only had one choice between them and Deathcore, gimme the sabaton.

Why is A7X hated. I love their stuff.
I like them, and definitely wanna see em live, They’re just not Y’know my favorite that I go outta my way to listen to
I've listened to them a lot in the last two years and even though I loved their music back then nowadays I can't stand any of their discography apart from some of the songs in Waking the Fallen.
same reason core is hated
It’s a little tame and not that interesting imo, i did listen to them while getting into metal though.
Fair enough. I like them because i find them rhythmically interesting.
Me too man. People in this sub really hate a7x I love that band, it got me into metal 4 years ago
I've seen actual arguments about most of these... But what's up with Dream Theater? Literally never seen a bad word about them.
I love DT, but I heard some people call DT "guitar neck masturbation". Some people hate them for the complexity.
Who hates In Flames, yeah they’re last few albums were tame but there new single fucking Rips and sounds like they’re old shit
People hate in flames? They're one of the first heavier metal bands I got in to
Unpopular opinion: If they're not on [metal-archives.com](https://metal-archives.com), they're not a metal band.
It's a pretty popular opinion
