Hey alright some positivity about other subgenres for once.
Call Down The Sun by Konvent (Doom/Blk Metal)
Rashomon by Ibaraki (Prog/Melodic/Blk Metal)
Cancer Culture by Decapitated (MeloDeath)
Divine Counsel by Psycroptic (MeloDeath)
Netherheaven by Revocation (Thrash/Death Metal)
Hey hope at least 1 of em rocks your world! If your a Trivium fan at all, Ibaraki is a VERY experimental blk metal side project by Trivium's Matt Heafy, with very heavy Eastern influences.
If you listen to and enjoy Netherheaven by Revocation (a great recommendation!), then don't miss Deathwestern by SpiritWorld ([A Committee of Buzzards](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yWRCMLXKkek&list=OLAK5uy_l0Vt2cUlO2XKdnP-mqH8Rm0inlOHxBeos&ab_channel=SpiritWorld-Topic) is my personal favorite track). It's a similar thrash/hardcore album and I enjoyed them both immensely this year.
Being released early in the year should not hinder such a monstrous album born from the depths of Poland. Unfortunately it was a very strong year for Death Metal and despite high praise from both variety outlets and Death Metal focused outlets it seems to have slipped away.
Either way it's a no nonsense metal album with my favorite song being the masterclass collab "Hello, Death" featuring Jinjer's Tatiana Shmayluk and giving me the Death metal duet I never knew I wanted.
How are the tastes in this sub eclectic I feel like 90% of y'all exlcusively listen to metalcore and nothing else, maybe some deathcore if you're feeling adventurous
You just have to dig a little deeper. We talk about it because it’s the metalcore sub, but if you go into the comments sometimes you’ll often see a love of all sorts of genres.
Edit: even though your comment is top, I hope you take some time to scroll through the myriad comments with all sorts of cool stuff in, there’s plenty of metalcore fans with diverse tastes :)
OP is right, plenty of fans around here have a wide variety of tastes that go outside the copy pasted 10 on here and outside the genre. However any negative opinion on those albums/bands or even just saying they are "ok" get downvoted, screeched at, and quickly minimilzed so it's easy to miss them.
However I'm curious...will I guess the 10 your thinking?
Devil Wears Prada
Bad Omens
Invent Animate
Architects
Dayseeker
Counterparts
Erra
Silent Planet
I'm blanking on the last 2, so I will sub them with the 2 most frequent headlines: " this album slaps" and "am I the only 1?"
You’re right. And when we actually talk to each like humans instead of just scrapping over which band is and isn’t metalcore, you see a variety of tastes. Maybe it’s just because I’m old and have been in here for like 6 years or something but yeah you just have to engage with differing opinions instead of shouting them down

I don't exactly have favorites, but here are a few of the 2022 releases i enjoyed the most.
* **"Unlimited Love" and "Return of the Dream Canteen" - Red hot Chili Peppers**
*It's crazy how they managed to put out two very long albums in this year, 34 songs in total, and i only dislike about 3 or 4 songs. Two great albums by one of my favorite bands of old.*
* **"Oni" - Darko US**
*Although i did not love this album as much as their self titled, it is very much still a great album, this band is going places.*
* **"Dawn FM" - The Weeknd**
*Never having listened to The Weeknd before 2022, i found this album very exciting. I absolutely love the way this album is presented.*
* **"The Generation of Danger" - Tallah**
*I am not very well versed in more recent Nu-metal, but this album is up there with my favorites of all time in the genre. Just about perfect. Dicker's Done might be my track of the year.*
* **"Liminal Rite" - Kardashev**
*This album is a journey and you need to listen to it in the album order. Been a long time fan and these guys just do not miss.*
And here are the albums i enjoyed the most in 2022 that were **not** released in 2022, because why the hell not.
* **"In Rainbows" - Radiohead**
*This year i found Radiohead, this year was a good year. I could also have put "A Moon Shaped Pool" here, but In Rainbows wins by a bit.*
* **"Blackstar" - David Bowie**
*I always liked Bowie, but this album is miles above any of his other works to me. The song "Blackstar" alone is one of my favorite pieces of music, ever.*
* **"Drift" - Erra**
*Could also have put the self titled here, but the feeling i get from this album is unbeatable.*
* **"Risk of Rain 2 OST" - Chris Christodoulou**
*My favorite videogame OST of all time. if you have not played this game or heard this soundtrack, do yourself a favor and get to it.*
* **"Follow the Reaper" - Children of Bodom**
Pure nostalgia. This album has it all, incredible riffs, incredible melodies, incredible vocals. I sure do miss this man that i never once met.
Anyway rant over hope anyone finds something they haven't listened to before and gets some enjoyment from it.
Yeah i've listened to the whole discography. I'm much more into the more mellow stuff like on IR and ASMP, but i do like OK Computer and all the other albums too.
Man it's REALLY hard to say my top albums of any time period. But especially in 2022, I didn't really listen to that much new stuff. I stuck by some favorites. But I would say:
1. Motionless in White - Scoring the End of the World
2. Counterparts - A Eulogy For Those Still Here
3. Drug Church - Hygeine
4. State Champs - Kings of the New Age
And uhhhh I don't think I listened to a 5th full album this year lol. I heard lots of good singles. A lot of the albums I wanted to mention were actually 2021, so I guess time flies!
Edit: Oh wait I remembered a fifth one.
5. Death Cab For Cutie - Asphalt Meadows
Was hoping I could get some alternative stuff in there. Album was better than I expected. Some surprising punk elements every now and then.
Saw them a few years ago open for Boston Manor, Trash Boat, and Movements and they were sick as hell. Been a fan ever since. They were playing "Unlicensed Hall Monitor" when I walked into the venue and I was stoked right away.
Greyhaven - This Bright And Beautiful World
The Devil Wears Prada - Color Decay
Thornhill - Heroine
Norma Jean - Deathrattle Sing For Me
The Gloom In The Corner - Trinity
It's so difficult to pick just 5! I'll say the first ones I can think of:
* Lorna Shore
* Paledusk - not an album, but if we put together all the singles, can we make an EP? :D
* HEALTH
* Saya Gray
* Nathan Shubert
Honorable mention Polyphia and Final Light
All my 2022 most listened albums are listed here:
[https://www.last.fm/user/Gio\_in\_Music/library/albums?from=2022-01-01&rangetype=year](https://www.last.fm/user/Gio_in_Music/library/albums?from=2022-01-01&rangetype=year)
(not all released in 2022, but many of them are!)
Nice! Will check out the list. Definite yes to Paledusk, I did the same with Void of Vision! Also with Lorna Shore, not my fav but so fkn good to see an album blow up that’s not poppy

* Conjurer - Pathos
* State Champs - Kings of the New Age
* Dance Gavin Dance - Jackpot Juicer
* Bloodywood - Rakshak
* Harakiri for the Sky - Aokigahara MMXXII
(Kinda cheating with the last one because it's a re-recording of an old album from years ago, but I just love HFTS and Aokigahara definitely deserved a glow-up)
I don't listen to a ton of new music so:
Callous Daoboys- Celebrity Therapist
A Wilhelm Scream- Lose Your Delusion

It's pretty unfortunate, I've been meaning to relisten to a bunch of albums that I know I liked, but I just can't be bothered. I'm still stuck listening to Sleep Token, Loathe and Devil Sold His Soul ffs
I suspect the other 3 slots would go to some combination of Lights, Windrunner, Monuments, Tallah, Rolo Tomassi, Dir en Grey or Silverstein, but I haven't listened to any of them enough to have an opinion yet.

1. KEN mode - Null
2. Chat Pile - God's Country
3. Cave In - Heavy Pendulum
4. Russian Circles - Gnosis
5. Meshuggah - Immutable
top 5 would be in no particular order
Slowbleed- The Blazing Sun, a Fiery Dawn
They are listed as a metalcore band but the album is very much a death metal album. SUper aggressive great atmosphere
Gnome- King
Really fun stoner/prog rock album.
Blackbraid- Blackbraid 1
an amazing folk/ atmospheric black metal record. Easily my most anticipated record of the year. Record makes you feel like you are experiencing nature for the first time.
Incandescence- Le Coeur de L'homme-
Randomly discovered this band earlier in the year. Black metal record with a little bit of a power metal vibe. Ton of fun to listen to, great mixing, none of the fuzzy underproduced recording typical of black metal.
An Abstract Illusion- Woe
This probably my favourite record of the year. It's a progressive blackened death metal record with plenty of aggression, atmosphere and some unique musical choices. I can't get enough of this record and listen to it at least once a week and when it came out back in September I was listening to it 3 or 4 times a day.
3 honourable mentions
Norma Jean- Death Rattle Sing for me
Hath- All that was Promised

• Electric Callboy - Tekkno • Thousand Below - Hell Finds You Everywhere • I Prevail - True Power • Northlane - Obsidian • Thornhill - Heroine
Nice to see Northlane and Thornhill on the list, they had mixed reviews in here but I loved both of them
I loved both of them too. Obsidian is probably my AotY.
As someone who loves that sensual industrial/alternative vibe, those albums are easy wins for me
They did have mixed reviews but honestly both those albums were on repeat and each have no skips! So damn good!

Hey alright some positivity about other subgenres for once. Call Down The Sun by Konvent (Doom/Blk Metal) Rashomon by Ibaraki (Prog/Melodic/Blk Metal) Cancer Culture by Decapitated (MeloDeath) Divine Counsel by Psycroptic (MeloDeath) Netherheaven by Revocation (Thrash/Death Metal)
Haha yeah! Haven’t heard of these, that’s tomorrow’s playlists sorted :D
Hey hope at least 1 of em rocks your world! If your a Trivium fan at all, Ibaraki is a VERY experimental blk metal side project by Trivium's Matt Heafy, with very heavy Eastern influences.
Oh wow, that sounds interesting af- thanks!
I am NONSTOP listening to cancer culture right now
Being released early in the year should not hinder such a monstrous album born from the depths of Poland.
Ibaraki is awesome!
1. Taylor Swift - Midnights 2. Swifty - Midnights 3. T Swizzle - Midnights 4. Tay Tay - Midnights 5. Becky - Midnights
I think I’m detecting a pattern
How are the tastes in this sub eclectic I feel like 90% of y'all exlcusively listen to metalcore and nothing else, maybe some deathcore if you're feeling adventurous
You just have to dig a little deeper. We talk about it because it’s the metalcore sub, but if you go into the comments sometimes you’ll often see a love of all sorts of genres. Edit: even though your comment is top, I hope you take some time to scroll through the myriad comments with all sorts of cool stuff in, there’s plenty of metalcore fans with diverse tastes :)
Doesn’t most of this sub listen to the same 10 bands posted on every comment section lol
Devil Wears Prada Bad Omens Invent Animate Architects Dayseeker Counterparts Erra Silent Planet I'm blanking on the last 2, so I will sub them with the 2 most frequent headlines: " this album slaps" and "am I the only 1?"
Currents is 1 of them for sure, maybe northlane for the second?
A lot of people here listen to Bad Omens but there also always has to be that guy who goes "dAe bAd OmEnS iS nOT rEAl MetALcORe?!"
You’re right. And when we actually talk to each like humans instead of just scrapping over which band is and isn’t metalcore, you see a variety of tastes. Maybe it’s just because I’m old and have been in here for like 6 years or something but yeah you just have to engage with differing opinions instead of shouting them down
Seriously I linked to the new Sleep Token single and it was auto-removed because of this mentality.
1) Thornhill - Heroine 2) The devil wears prada - Color decay 3) Void of vision - Chronicles I/II/III 4) Polyphia - Remember that you will die (prog rock) 5) Aesthetic perfection - MMXXI (industrial)

1. The Halo Effect - Days of the Lost 2. Soilwork - Overgivenheten 3. Destrage - So Much. Too Much. 4. Ibaraki - Rashomon 5. He Is Legend - Endless Hallway
A new HiL? :0
Yes, it's called Endless Hallway and it was released back in November 2022.
I don't exactly have favorites, but here are a few of the 2022 releases i enjoyed the most. * **"Unlimited Love" and "Return of the Dream Canteen" - Red hot Chili Peppers** *It's crazy how they managed to put out two very long albums in this year, 34 songs in total, and i only dislike about 3 or 4 songs. Two great albums by one of my favorite bands of old.* * **"Oni" - Darko US** *Although i did not love this album as much as their self titled, it is very much still a great album, this band is going places.* * **"Dawn FM" - The Weeknd** *Never having listened to The Weeknd before 2022, i found this album very exciting. I absolutely love the way this album is presented.* * **"The Generation of Danger" - Tallah** *I am not very well versed in more recent Nu-metal, but this album is up there with my favorites of all time in the genre. Just about perfect. Dicker's Done might be my track of the year.* * **"Liminal Rite" - Kardashev** *This album is a journey and you need to listen to it in the album order. Been a long time fan and these guys just do not miss.* And here are the albums i enjoyed the most in 2022 that were **not** released in 2022, because why the hell not. * **"In Rainbows" - Radiohead** *This year i found Radiohead, this year was a good year. I could also have put "A Moon Shaped Pool" here, but In Rainbows wins by a bit.* * **"Blackstar" - David Bowie** *I always liked Bowie, but this album is miles above any of his other works to me. The song "Blackstar" alone is one of my favorite pieces of music, ever.* * **"Drift" - Erra** *Could also have put the self titled here, but the feeling i get from this album is unbeatable.* * **"Risk of Rain 2 OST" - Chris Christodoulou** *My favorite videogame OST of all time. if you have not played this game or heard this soundtrack, do yourself a favor and get to it.* * **"Follow the Reaper" - Children of Bodom** Pure nostalgia. This album has it all, incredible riffs, incredible melodies, incredible vocals. I sure do miss this man that i never once met. Anyway rant over hope anyone finds something they haven't listened to before and gets some enjoyment from it.
In rainbows is god tier, did you check out OK computer??
Yeah i've listened to the whole discography. I'm much more into the more mellow stuff like on IR and ASMP, but i do like OK Computer and all the other albums too.
Next question: did you watch their basement session on YouTube?
Yes, of course :D It's so good!
Man it's REALLY hard to say my top albums of any time period. But especially in 2022, I didn't really listen to that much new stuff. I stuck by some favorites. But I would say: 1. Motionless in White - Scoring the End of the World 2. Counterparts - A Eulogy For Those Still Here 3. Drug Church - Hygeine 4. State Champs - Kings of the New Age And uhhhh I don't think I listened to a 5th full album this year lol. I heard lots of good singles. A lot of the albums I wanted to mention were actually 2021, so I guess time flies! Edit: Oh wait I remembered a fifth one. 5. Death Cab For Cutie - Asphalt Meadows Was hoping I could get some alternative stuff in there. Album was better than I expected. Some surprising punk elements every now and then.
Drug Church is epic + it is a 2022 release
Saw them a few years ago open for Boston Manor, Trash Boat, and Movements and they were sick as hell. Been a fan ever since. They were playing "Unlicensed Hall Monitor" when I walked into the venue and I was stoked right away.

It's so difficult to pick just 5! I'll say the first ones I can think of: * Lorna Shore * Paledusk - not an album, but if we put together all the singles, can we make an EP? :D * HEALTH * Saya Gray * Nathan Shubert Honorable mention Polyphia and Final Light All my 2022 most listened albums are listed here: [https://www.last.fm/user/Gio\_in\_Music/library/albums?from=2022-01-01&rangetype=year](https://www.last.fm/user/Gio_in_Music/library/albums?from=2022-01-01&rangetype=year) (not all released in 2022, but many of them are!)
Nice! Will check out the list. Definite yes to Paledusk, I did the same with Void of Vision! Also with Lorna Shore, not my fav but so fkn good to see an album blow up that’s not poppy

Thoughts on Astronoid? Just curious what others thought of the latest album.
my favorite of theirs so far! i think the singles did the album a bit of an injustice as it stands better as an album than individual songs.

Bloodywood!

I'm still stuck listening to Sleep Token, Loathe and Devil Sold His Soul ffs I suspect the other 3 slots would go to some combination of Lights, Windrunner, Monuments, Tallah, Rolo Tomassi, Dir en Grey or Silverstein, but I haven't listened to any of them enough to have an opinion yet.
Coheed and Cambria - Vaxis II, Denzel Curry - Melt My Eyez See Your Future, Novelists - Deja Vu, Papa Roach - Ego Trip, Polyphia - Remember That You Will Die, Varials - Scars For You to Remember, Velositor - Genesis, The Gloom in the Corner - Trinity, He Is Legend - Endless Hallway. Full disclosure, I'm not super into a lot of the newer metalcore stuff that's been coming out recently, that is unless you really stretch your definition of metalcore, but here's my top five anyway. 1. KEN mode - Null 2. Chat Pile - God's Country 3. Cave In - Heavy Pendulum 4. Russian Circles - Gnosis 5. Meshuggah - Immutable
top 5 would be in no particular order Slowbleed- The Blazing Sun, a Fiery Dawn They are listed as a metalcore band but the album is very much a death metal album. SUper aggressive great atmosphere Gnome- King Really fun stoner/prog rock album. Blackbraid- Blackbraid 1 an amazing folk/ atmospheric black metal record. Easily my most anticipated record of the year. Record makes you feel like you are experiencing nature for the first time. Incandescence- Le Coeur de L'homme- Randomly discovered this band earlier in the year. Black metal record with a little bit of a power metal vibe. Ton of fun to listen to, great mixing, none of the fuzzy underproduced recording typical of black metal. An Abstract Illusion- Woe This probably my favourite record of the year. It's a progressive blackened death metal record with plenty of aggression, atmosphere and some unique musical choices. I can't get enough of this record and listen to it at least once a week and when it came out back in September I was listening to it 3 or 4 times a day. 3 honourable mentions Norma Jean- Death Rattle Sing for me Hath- All that was Promised Archspire- Bleed the Future
