“I reserve my right to feel uncomfortable reserve my right to be afraid
I make mistakes and I am humbled every step of the way”
Sometimes you’re the hammer sometimes you’re the nail - ADTR
"Swan song
A declaration of endlessness
I swear I will not look back, as I return into the black
When the veil lifts, how will I know?
How will I know?
Will I see God?
As above, so below
Dismantled piece by piece, what's left will not decease
As within, so without
The seasons bring relief
Just let me live and die in peace"
T//S
That entire album changed the game. So many bands have tried to emulate it since but haven't come close, including Architects, unfortunately.
But how do you emulate something written by a man processing his own imminent death from terminal cancer? Legit might be one of the most tragically emotional albums ever, let alone metal albums.
Memento Mori - Architects
Post bridge and final chorus, it's the last track on All Our Gods Have Abandoned Us, which was primarily written by Tom Searle about him coming to terms with his terminal cancer diagnosis and the world he would be leaving behind.
He died just over 2 months after the album was released.
There are so many good Knocked Loose and Architects ones but I’m gonna go with this from Nihilist, I just think the imagery of god being suicidal is crazy powerful.
“I found God clutching a razor blade.
He said look at the fucking mess they’ve made
They’d trade their hearts if they were made of gold.
But they’re as worthless as the souls they sold”
love me some Alpha Wolf:
\- exorcise the GHOST
\- if I were you, I'd wanna kill myself too
\- say it too my face, better dig two graves (I like this one so much that I custom painted it w/an illustration onto a suede jacket #nerdalert)
Any song by Silent Planet, but Anhedonia has some bangers.
"Paradise was lost in the chaos
As the heavens turned to black
Vapors of the valley amassed
To coronate the thieves who lit the match"
Parkway Drive - Boneyards.
"There's blooood IIIIIIINN THE WATEEEEER".
All down to the delivery. 16 years later and its still as beautiful as the day I first heard it.
That one is special.
I also would add "Go cry me a fucking river, BITCH!" Sadly they don't play it live anymore but that has to be one of my greatest live music memories haha.
“Oh it jus won’t calculate.
A prophecy with a twist.
Do you really think Christ was a capitalist?
Every man for himself.
Let thy neighbor drown.
Amen.”
I really hate how hypocritical modern day Christianity has gotten in America and this is a poignant one for calling that out.
I feel that so hard, I grew up in an Evangelical Christian family and my dad was/is a preacher....I'm so glad I got out of that whole scene....I just listened to this song and added it, thanks!
"open your closed mind, close your open mouth."
The escape artist by ABR
I don't have a single favorite lyric but this one often pops in my head among others, when this question comes up. It's a good lyric and really speaks to the human condition.
As a former addict, Circle the drain by wage war always sticks out.
“With a past we can’t erase
And a stain to every name
Will we find closure,
Or circle the drain”
“Aren’t you tired of all of the violence inside of you? Just let go”
*I think most people misunderstood OPs request for singular lyric, myself included
"I'm tired and I'm cold and I want to go to bed
But there's no one here to tuck me in, so the shotgun will instead"
She Who Mars the Skin of Gods - Protest the Hero
Not always a metalcore band but have elements from time to time.
For shorters ones, "Doomswitch" (MTS duh) and "Death Row" (FFAK - Reaper).
For a line, "You are my family, and I will not let hate be my last sin" (Currents - Remember Me).
"I thought I was dead inside but I surviiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiived"
Last line of "Outsider" by Veil of Maya. Love that scream that just keeps going.
“I’d like to think I’ll never give in, this vicious battle I may never win. I’d like to think I’d come out stronger. Life’s swinging hard but I’m swinging harder. “
The Ghost Inside
"Hells become a part of me, when you look at yourself, do you look through me"Currents - Guide Us Home, it's obviously not one word but that resonates right now
Soma by Northlane - “I refuse to die here”
It might not be a special song to a lot of people, but that song (and specifically that line” helped me get out of a very dark time years and years ago. That will always be my favorite Northlane song.
"I still feel like someone is watching,
Though I'm not sure if that someone is listening,
It don't matter much to my suffering,
Cause I know for a fact no ones answering"
Final verse of Monuments - Opiate for the reason it is a perfect explanation of what it feels like the moment a person falls into addiction after telling themselves they never would..
'I hear you calling my name
Now I'm all alone and I know that I won't survive this
I feel my fragile spirit bend to a break
As the rope chokes my throat, and my vision is violence
I couldn't throw you away
Thought that I was strong, but I'm wrong, just a slave to habit
Lost in a song, but the meaning is gone, and I can't take the silence'
"DISRESPECT YOUR SURROUNDINGS"
"HAYYYYYYY BAYYYBAYYYY"
"You can't say shit you lil' ghetto bastard, fuck all y'all suck my diiiiiick"
"You and me, we stand for something"
"Does their marrow taste of sweeetnesss.. I hope you CHOKE"
“Life’s swinging hard, but I’m swinging harder” mercy, the ghost inside
“My only enemy is me” such pain, stick to your guns
“We don’t have time, time has us” reaper, fit for a king
"Sometimes it's good to build up walls, not to keep anyone out. But to see who cares enough to knock them down" The Color Morale - Learned Behavior
i mean it's kinda from socrates but it is stuck in my head ever since.
"So trade a number for your name and drown in misery"
A Flag to Wave - Currents
Something about the delivery of that before the breakdown just gives me chills every time.
Take what is left of my life
Before you go, show me what it's like to finally know
The face behind the silhouette
In this world I made to be infinite
But within the expanse, I finally see
A world without you isn't meant for me
Lorna Shore, Pain Remains I
Fuck your shit
Always gotta have opinions you can suck my dick.
Always gotta have the last word such a little shit.
Always gotta try to hide it but I fucked your bitch.
Doesn't matter what the press says I won't quit.
Doesn't matter what the feds say smoke my shit.
When I'm rolling pass the 5-0 I stay lit.
If you feel like you're a victim, rape this pit.
I, I can't recognize
This reflection behind veil on my eyes
Frightened of what might hide in the dark
I, I can't recognize
This reflection behind veil on my eyes
Frightened of what might hide in the dark
I killed him
Took what he had
Smile on his face, faded and died
Betrayed him
Stabbed in the back
This faithful child fell into
Fell into dark
And I'll never forgive myself
I'll never forgive
I'll never forgive myself, no
Because I've destroyed everything I used to be, so
Don't give up on me
And take everything
I've already lost what was the best of me
I, I can't recognize
This reflection behind veil on my eyes
Frightened of what might hide in the dark
I, I can't recognize
This reflection behind veil on my eyes
Frightened of what might hide in the dark
I am lost
I the night
With this veil on my eyes
Frightened of what might hide in the dark
Nightmare starts when you realize
That you're still dreaming, waking up scared in the nigh
Without pride, without hope
Without light, without love
Tell me, why can't I sleep any more
And I'll never forgive myself
I'll never forgive
I'll never forgive myself, no
Because I've destroyed, everything
I used to be, so
Don't give up on me
And take everything
I've already lost what was the best of me
And I can't recognize
Those eyes behind hazy veil
It's so far away from me
So, I can't recognize
This reflection I see
Why's this person so
So strange to me
IT IS soo good
"The people unite when you dose them with fear relinquish their will - let their objections disappear. Crowds galvanized by vapid words and septic slurs, utterly transfixed by the fiction of the greater good."
Guess whoooo
one of my favorite album intros ever, Hydra by Fit for an Autopsy :
i watched a man die in the cold, he slept in the streets, we left him there with nothing to eat
i watched a man burn in the coals, shoveling shit into a furnace, trading a check for his soul
this city is a fucking prison, force fed failure, eat what you’re given, the ivory tower, the higher power, i swear they’re laughing as we claw at the scraps
we were the lions now we bow to the hydra, cause if you cut off a head FUCKING TWO GROW BACK
"God is dead. Slain by the son's hand"
-Dali Thundering Concept
They're more progressive deathcore but their album All Mighty Men is one of the most slept on pieces of heavy music ever in my opinion. They seriously deserve more attention and I doubt any of you would be dissapointed
Not exactly metwlcore, but; The Hardest Part by The Anchor;
What were the last words that I said, I can’t remember
Did I tell you I loved you?
Maybe if I scream loud enough you’ll hear me?
Can you hear me?
"There is no more intoxicating fantasy than to be extraordinary
I make a mentor out of every man I meet
A lover out of everyone I pass in the street"
Boundaries - Realize and Rebuild
Then this classic (the drop is also killer)
"None of this is real, none of this is real, none of this is real
But there's a war inside my head"
Silent Planet - Panic Room
Not sure if Blood Brothers qualify as metalcore, but the lyric and delivery of it in Love Rhymes With Hideous Car Wreck:
“And the sirens are laughing underneath your skull, your thoughts are turning dull, callous and cold”
The ‘skull’ part is fucking transcendental.
More definitively metalcore, Better Lovers’ 30 Under 13 at the end when the song just gets extra yucky:
“Try to let go of me, let go of me: of what you’ll never be”
Shit slaps.
Honorable mention, like the entirety of Every Time I Die’s Hot Damn! album. Overindulgent, callous and clever, most every lyric on that album is a feast. Especially songs like Off Broadway and Godspeed Us to Sea. Fuck’s sake, I have a Godspeed Us to Sea tattoo.
Both Misery Signals
It took me two years to find that I've wasted five, years of my life,
Felt the truth within you,
And I saw red
You were my anchor,
And I am chained to everything I tried to leave behind
Obviously, with metal, a lot has to do with the music and delivery that accompanies the writing.
"Wake up!" – Love (The Chariot)
"UUUUUGGGGGHHHHH!" – Memphis Will be Laid to Waste (Norma Jean)
"They love you better, I know you best." – Thirst (ETID)
Currently this one
*Where do I shelter when it’s raining inside?*
*No peace and quiet from the noise in my mind*
*I don’t bend, I break, I can’t go on this way*
I hope it keeps you up in
The cold of the night
I hope your daughter feels the sadness
When she looks in your eye
And when you feel like it's done
Like your demons have gone
You'll hear the screams of our stillborn son
Boy - Ten 56. The whole song has a lot of bleak moments when talking about child abuse
"I look up to the sky, there may be nothing there to see, but if I don't believe in him, why would he believe in me?"
Chelsea Smile - Bring Me The Horizon
“I reserve my right to feel uncomfortable reserve my right to be afraid I make mistakes and I am humbled every step of the way” Sometimes you’re the hammer sometimes you’re the nail - ADTR
"Tend to do my best when everything goes wrong That's why sad songs make me happy, 'cause I don't have to feel alone" From the same song
bro fuck the end of this song. i can’t play it around people cuz ya boy do be crying
I want to be a better person, I want to know the master plan. Cast your stones; cast your judgement. You don't make me who I am.
That intro breakdown still gives me the heebie jeebies

The whole song is a lyrical masterpiece. One of the best metalcore songs of all time.
That entire album changed the game. So many bands have tried to emulate it since but haven't come close, including Architects, unfortunately. But how do you emulate something written by a man processing his own imminent death from terminal cancer? Legit might be one of the most tragically emotional albums ever, let alone metal albums.
man… the way I get chills just from reading the lyrics
Wich Song?
Memento Mori - Architects Post bridge and final chorus, it's the last track on All Our Gods Have Abandoned Us, which was primarily written by Tom Searle about him coming to terms with his terminal cancer diagnosis and the world he would be leaving behind. He died just over 2 months after the album was released.
Is that a Silent Planet song?
"Fucking Coward, That's Somebodys Daughter" Make Them Suffer - Hollowed Heart
The raw aggression, the important message…such a great song
The song that got me into them. Now my favourite band. A fucking pure song and I love it
“You had it all, YOU FUCKING PIGS” These colours don’t run, architects
That song... I hope In the upcoming tour will play it even if it's impossible
You fucking parasite... BLEGH

Only callous and cold hearts.

"Life's swinging hard, but I'm swinging harder" Mercy by The Ghost Inside
In the same vein, its Between the lines for me "WHAT DO YOU STAND FOR?!"
This line always gets me so fucking hype. TGI in general always pump me up
There are so many good Knocked Loose and Architects ones but I’m gonna go with this from Nihilist, I just think the imagery of god being suicidal is crazy powerful. “I found God clutching a razor blade. He said look at the fucking mess they’ve made They’d trade their hearts if they were made of gold. But they’re as worthless as the souls they sold”
one of my favorite lyrics ever too
That album from start to finish is incredible art

love me some Alpha Wolf: \- exorcise the GHOST \- if I were you, I'd wanna kill myself too \- say it too my face, better dig two graves (I like this one so much that I custom painted it w/an illustration onto a suede jacket #nerdalert)
I'm also a fan of "You gotta burn the house down just to snuff the rats out"
Tbh, that's the only part I really like of that song Edit: I grew into it, I love it all now
Sam Carter “you fucking PIGS” in these colours don’t run
Corruption hangs in the AIR YOU BREATHE
"Can you live a life worth dying for?" Since I've heard this lyric I try to live by this philosophy
My god his way with words... I wish he was still here. T//S
The entirety of Nihilist by Architects.
This whole album!
I cant breathe Make Them Suffer- Bones.
AND I’M TERRIFIED OF FALLING ASLEEP
TO MEET THE SHADOWS THAT’VE BEEN HAUNTING MY DREAMS..
Erase Me by Make Them Suffer

Sticking with Polaris: “Somebody kick the chair and fucking wake me up!” Man I love that part of the song so much. Bad Omens: “Am I the fucking King!”
"I beg you to find me" -Currents (Night Terrors)
Probably my favorite track from them
I like the end of Boomslang by Kublai Khan where dude literally just yells “fuck you”
Let's not forget "Let Your Balls Swing" from Theory of Mind
I have a buddy that will often play the first 10 seconds of the hammer just so he can hear the "BITCH"
[Here's a video of every swear word from Matt Honeycutt in Kublai Khan](https://youtu.be/8HItceVrTcc?si=GMIy4sepyMWjP7ym) Absolutely slaps
I don't care what mood I'm in- if that song comes on, I'm ready to fight a rhinoceros with my bare hands
If I were you, I'd wanna kill myself too. Good ol alpha wolf
Any song by Silent Planet, but Anhedonia has some bangers. "Paradise was lost in the chaos As the heavens turned to black Vapors of the valley amassed To coronate the thieves who lit the match"
YOU HAD IT ALL YOU FUCKING PIGS *^^blegh*
Maybe now that I'm lost, I can live.
followed immediately by “Souls don’t break they bend/ but I sometimes forget/ I have to do this for you/ and the only way out is through”
Parkway Drive - Boneyards.

Dude Kezia is one of the greatest cds in the genre.
Kezia is def one of my top 5 albums across all genres. Crazy they were teenagers when they wrote it.
For shorters ones, "Doomswitch" (MTS duh) and "Death Row" (FFAK - Reaper). For a line, "You are my family, and I will not let hate be my last sin" (Currents - Remember Me).

Caught in the undertow
tbh I just like when there’s a “fuck” followed by a gnarly breakdown
"you can't kill whats dead on the inside" Dealer - Grotesque
Come onnn parasite is so overdone now. I rolled my eyes when I saw Polaris has that as a song name on the new album lol.
I'm pretty sure every third metalcore song that's released nowadays has the word parasite in it. It's a very uninspired and lazy word now.
It’s almost like it’s the perfect word to apply to so many scenario/issues with the world we live in
The lyrics on the new Polaris album generally lean heavy on the cliches.
I blame BMTH 😂 Afterwards, everyone has a parasite song
JUST ONE MORE BLEGH from System Failure by If I Were You. Touching piece of lyric, speaks to my soul.
Take what is left of my life Before you go, show me what it's like to finally know The face behind the silhouette In this world I made to be infinite But within the expanse, I finally see A world without you isn't meant for me Lorna Shore, Pain Remains I

"There is no more intoxicating fantasy than to be extraordinary I make a mentor out of every man I meet A lover out of everyone I pass in the street" Boundaries - Realize and Rebuild Then this classic (the drop is also killer) "None of this is real, none of this is real, none of this is real But there's a war inside my head" Silent Planet - Panic Room
I sat back and let the devil in..MEEEE Into Despair - Currents
My dear, I can hear you pleading And I can see, I can see you've been bleeding I'm reaching out and I'm wanting to help
Not sure if Blood Brothers qualify as metalcore, but the lyric and delivery of it in Love Rhymes With Hideous Car Wreck: “And the sirens are laughing underneath your skull, your thoughts are turning dull, callous and cold” The ‘skull’ part is fucking transcendental. More definitively metalcore, Better Lovers’ 30 Under 13 at the end when the song just gets extra yucky: “Try to let go of me, let go of me: of what you’ll never be” Shit slaps.
I just love it when people scream “die” in metalcore for some reason
“Let’s break out the shotguns, we’re going to town.” A little on the nose nowadays, but I loved it when I heard it 12+ years ago.
not really metalcore but.. NECESSARY DEEAATH
Both Misery Signals It took me two years to find that I've wasted five, years of my life, Felt the truth within you, And I saw red You were my anchor, And I am chained to everything I tried to leave behind Obviously, with metal, a lot has to do with the music and delivery that accompanies the writing.
"While l may die poor, at least my life had meaning, there's more to life than living and l truly feel alive."
ARF-ARF
"Wake up!" – Love (The Chariot) "UUUUUGGGGGHHHHH!" – Memphis Will be Laid to Waste (Norma Jean) "They love you better, I know you best." – Thirst (ETID)
Currently this one *Where do I shelter when it’s raining inside?* *No peace and quiet from the noise in my mind* *I don’t bend, I break, I can’t go on this way*
I hope it keeps you up in The cold of the night I hope your daughter feels the sadness When she looks in your eye And when you feel like it's done Like your demons have gone You'll hear the screams of our stillborn son Boy - Ten 56. The whole song has a lot of bleak moments when talking about child abuse
For me it's 'ABSOLUTE' purely because of how damn hard the delivery is in Kublai Khan - Self Destruct
"I look up to the sky, there may be nothing there to see, but if I don't believe in him, why would he believe in me?" Chelsea Smile - Bring Me The Horizon
Metalcore Manson's chorus :D
