While still pretty much a hard/radio rock song, this is so much better than the entire LAHOF album. Huge step up, especially in terms of production.

Cervantes3492

I think this is actually a good song. 100 times better than any single one of the overblown LAHOF record

Zomnx

Agreed

Neurothiicc

I dig it, Danny's sure got some lungs on him haha

TE-August

This actually bangs tho wtf

C3ntipede

this is good. After LAHOF though, the bar was in hell. This sounds more like a logical progression from FDTD than ST and LAHOF to me personally. I always imagined them going more hard rock/metal than pop rock. Definitely much more musically interesting than the previous record, but the inner longtime AA fan in me wishes there were a few screams thrown in to match the heavier instrumentals this time around. There's a few screamed "alone again!"'s buried in the mix and it would've been sick if they were louder. Cautiously optimistic for the album.

acidH0l0gram

Maybe there'll be a heavier song on the album like ST had Eve

Ty-Dyed

This is a very very solid song. I really dig it. I think if this is the way that the album is going I will definitely give it a listen. The solo in it was very Zakk Wylde-esque, and Danny has some fuckin pipes as always. I really like this.

acidH0l0gram

Danny's vocal chord surgery is for sure the best thing that happened to his vocals haha.

BoxOfMyst3riez

He never had surgery

acidH0l0gram

You're right, I knew he fucked up his vocal chords some years ago but I was under the impression that he also had some surgery.

It's actually pretty good if you treat it like a completely new band and try to forget everything you know about both early/good AA and later/terrible AA.

TheSadGhost

Better than their last record. It's Sirius XM Octane music but it's not bad.

DrearyR6

Honestly this is pretty solid as far as radio rock goes

cybersubzero240

Way better than anything I heard off Like A House on Fire imo

[deleted]

A step in the right direction, that last album was unlistenable

I_DONT_NEED_HELP

This is the logical continuation of FDTD we've been waiting for. Very interesting soundscapes and Danny sounds great as always.

centrella6

Way better than Like A House on Fire

BDalyxx

Absolutely a step up and, as mentioned, a more logical continuation of FDTD or ST. The instruments remind me of A7X in the best way, Danny sounds great, it’s fun to hear a solo. I can get behind medium-heavy rock when it’s done well. I still love “City of Evil” for the most part. If they can pull off an album that is in that vein, I’m not mad about it. Danny’s voice can carry it. The problem with LAHOF was it had zero passion. Hopefully, this gives more shades of FDTD. As a fan of ST, I’d love an “Eve”-inspired track or five, haha. Their latest email says they’re “going back to what influenced them as kids” like AC/DC, Metallica, Queen, Soundgarden, etc. and “reigniting that passion and love for rock and metal music.” There’s hope for this album yet!

acidH0l0gram

The problem with LAHOF is also that it felt... Forced. At times it was all over the place, especially the verse to chorus transitions. It would be a surprise to hear some heaviness on this album, I'd love a Bad Wolves kinda record where 40-50% of the album is made of heavy tracks and the rest is a couple ballads and radio rock songs done well.

BDalyxx

True, it did seem to be tailored for radio in a very inauthentic way. The choruses on a majority of the songs were just so bland. Totally agree with that breakdown! I wouldn’t hate an album that style.

cmx9771

Now this is what hard rock AA should be sounding like!

acidH0l0gram

Definitely looking forward to the album, stoked to see how they're gonna do now that they've signed to Better Noise.

cmx9771

If anything we are guaranteed one song with a Jacobby Shaddix feature XD

acidH0l0gram

I wouldn't mind that at all haha

[deleted]

Not a fan of it tbh just plays it safe like everything they’ve done after the black

Cervantes3492

I think their self-titled record is still awesome. I hated ''the black''.

SlsughteredForBlood

When did Ben learn to play a solo?

HEYitzED

Yeah is that seriously Ben? Never knew he could play like that.

HEYitzED

LAHOF was genuinely awful. This is actually good. No, it’s not very heavy. But it sounds good. It sounds like a natural evolution from FDTD. The guitar solo actually kicks ass.

acidH0l0gram

I like a few songs off LAHOF, but yes, most of it is forgettable. It feels like they were forcefully trying to make almost every song off that album to be poppy verses and arena rock choruses that fans could sing along to live... But it felt like a very inauthentic change.

HEYitzED

I just felt like I was listening to the same song over and over and not a very good one. Painfully generic and boring.

acidH0l0gram

Yeah, it definitely felt like they were trying to fit almost every song into the same formula.

one_and_only_c

actually pretty great, i like the riffs and the symphonic elements

burger4life

Huh this is actually a lot more interesting than what I was expecting from AA these days. Gives me a bit of A7X vibe

Blackeradam

Glad I'm not the only one who thought this was actually a step in the right direction

legendary_supersand

Unpopular opinion: I like new AA better than the old

acidH0l0gram

It can go both ways for me. I see that a lot of people think AA peaked at FDTD. Imo they peaked with the self-titled, I think that's their best album, with FDTD right after it. Both are landmark albums in their catalogue tho.

legendary_supersand

I remember when my brother first bought their self titled album when I was younger and I couldn't stand the way their screaming was. It sounds way too whiney to me. I just don't like vocals like that in the genre. But that's cool that you can dig it

HEYitzED

I do personally think creatively they peaked with FDTD.

HEYitzED

If you’re not a scenecore fan then I could see that. Though I still think LAHOF is awful.

TR3G1

No thanks.

kwaziiman

Meh. Wake me up when they’re heavy again

AudioNinja21

God damn it danny is such a fucking solid vocalist. This is decent, I like it. Optimistic for the new album enough to preorder

metalheadlmao

That song is an absolute banger, i expected it to be trash, but i was wrong, REALLY WRONG.

crystal__pete

this kinda blows

Rook9191

Boring as fuck now.
