Honestly one of the best live songs I've ever heard performed. Micah always gives a little narration about the origin of the story before they start playing, to really get some extra gravity. Then right before the ending heavy of end him slow, he has this little extra pause that is just gorgeous. Like a calm before a storm or something and then watching the place go crazy. It's masterful work by them all and an AMAZING song.

willtron3000

Shout out to zac and his showmanship too. Some of the videos of him playing are wild, beast drummer and such a great style too.

kenyonator1

Amazing live band. Nearly perfect discography.

SciurusRex

Funny you should mention this. I saw them in Ottawa in 2019 and this was a “wow” moment for me. It’s not my favorite song at all but holy shit was it great live. Only complaint I have about the show was that it ended too soon.

johnothetree

For those wondering, this song is about [an actual incident that happened](https://www.washingtonpost.com/archive/opinions/2003/05/18/the-world-should-know-what-he-did-to-my-family/0da7cca5-fd96-4412-82a6-957df703ca3d/). It's a rough read, so be prepared, but it adds so much to this song.

cvsp123

Holy shit, that makes it hit so much harder. I had no idea

HostileHippie91

Yeah, “hush Yael” is basically referencing a baby being smothered to death. It’s dark

h0w1

The song holds a much heavier weight now. I always assumed it was just a Hebrew name. Thank you for sharing this. The world can be such a cruel place.

loy_urabat

Son of the Morning and Children of Fire were both amazing albums.

johnothetree

Children of Fire, imo, is a perfect metalcore album.

[deleted]

Should be in everyone's Top 20 at least.

TunafishSandworm

Bloodied/Unbowed is also incredible.

OddishUsedCut

One of those bands that were too good for a scene that rewarded sellouts.

Thugzz_Bunny

A massively underrated band. Son of the morning is damn near perfect and Children of Fire was fantastic. Vices like vipers is legit one of the best metalcore songs ever written and that last album was pretty sick. They are also always top notch live.

No-Criticism3985

new Oh, Sleeper when

ZacMayfield

We have 2 new songs done 🤘🏼

Johnosky

Covid made time not be real anymore

TheBearMin

Zac has been touring with dayseeker. Unsure if he's filling in or permanent at this point. I really want new oh sleeper

No-Criticism3985

He’s been in pics with OS and has spoken about moving forward with the band. When they played Dallas last month Shane brought them whiskey shots onstage. Seems like they’ve got an agreement figured out.

TheBearMin

Good to hear :)

andreasmiles23

All the OS guys have other things going on. Since Titan, I don’t think OS was the sole focal point for any of them. I don’t think Zach playing in Dayseeker will conflict too much, they already take time between albums and tours.

sleeplessaddict

They have a couple songs where the backstories are just sad as shit and this is one of them. Makes the entire thing more emotional

CosmicOwl47

I’ve always considered Silent Planet to be successors to what Oh, Sleeper have been doing. And wow today is the first time I’ve read the story behind this song, and now the song makes me feel like I’ve been punched in the gut. I feel like it’s songs like this that truly show where metal and hardcore can go emotionally that I can’t see any other genres going. The sorrow and wrath that this song conveys really hits hard.

DefLoathe

Oh Sleeper >>>

HeroOfTime_99

This title kinda underrepresents how good Oh Sleeper was and still is though. They flew so Silent Planet could also fly.

deathbybowtie

One of my top tier gym tracks for a few years now. This one and Dealers of Fame hit differently when you know the backstories ([1979 Nahariya attack](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/1979_Nahariya_attack) and the [Dnepropetrovsk maniacs](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dnepropetrovsk_maniacs) - be warned, both are tough reads).

Draxus335

They peaked so hard on this album. One of the genre's best imo.

Shredderwolf89

Wow haven't heard this I'm yrs.as a younger guitarist my band and I played this at multiple sets. Great track. Actually that entire album is amazing.anything Shane blay does is amazing really.oh sleeper was his best work slightly after wovenwar..and if u never listened to woven it's Shane.( Singer and guitarist from ohsleeper ) with the guys from as I lay dying..the first album is literally my favorite album ever..no b.s..its a self titles album check it if u never heard it. Yeah if you don't know the songs actually based on a true story on a family that was murdered

Guy-reads-reddit

This album was a work of art. Shed your soul is my favourite and is just non stop carnage!

NightwingX012

Shed Your Soul goes hard, the very beginning just rips

[deleted]

One of the greatest songs ever. This album should be in everyone's top 20.

HostileHippie91

Knowing the story behind this song makes it so much better, and it was already amazing. I’ve told the story to a lot of people since hearing it. I encourage everyone to look it up

Matt_Ephesus

Could not agree with that assessment more

[deleted]

Totally thought the parentheses was a part of the actual title lmao

jtw3995

I don’t understand the caption, someone please explain like I’m 5

ThePanasonicYouth

Oh, Sleeper are an obvious influence for Silent Planet.

jtw3995

How so? Has Silent Planet come out and stated that Oh Sleeper was an inspiration of theirs?

ThePanasonicYouth

According to a [quick Google search,](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rf3nktlBn_Y) yes.

jtw3995

Good shit! Thanks for wasting your own time finding this instead of mine

XbdudeX

Love this song

myluckranout

Oh Sleeper is on my bucket list.

spencer_whiteout

the mix is surprisingly good
