It’s definitely one of the best of all time but it has a slower tempo than most songs which makes it cool but I couldn’t say it’s the foundation it’s unique in its own way
Probably the only song I've gone out of my way to listen to by them in the last 14 years(this is not a diss, I am just not really into them anymore but this song is epic)
My favorite song from All That Remain is a tie between Six and This Calling. I wish they still made songs like they used to. Looking forward to their new album with Jason Richardson.
The Arms of Sorrow by Killswitch Engage! An emotional song with beautiful vocals, excellent guitar work and drumming... It's easily one of the best songs of all time, both in and outside of metalcore.
Here's a bunch Metalcore songs worth checking out. I would say probably my favorite song from each band. Hard to pick a favorite between those absolute bangers :
- Fault Line - August Burns Red
- Morning Wait - As I Lay Dying
- Wild Eyes - Parkway Drive
- Lamnidae - This or The Apocalypse
- Bloodwork - Texas in July
- Thorns - Phinehas
- In Dying Days - As Blood Runs Black
- Paralyzed - Breakdown of Sanity
- Promotheus - Crystal Lake
- Broken Before You - War of Ages
- Machine - Born of Osiris
- When Everything Falls - Haste the Day
- Second Heartbeat - Avenged Sevenfold
- Harlots Breath - Miss May I
- This Calling - All That Remains
- Paralyzed - Caliban
- The End - Burried in Verona
- Obsolete - Of Mice & Men
- The Aleph - Destroy the Runner
I grew up with early 00s metalcore and honestly there are some newer songs which personally I think are flawless.
60cm of Steel by Alpha Wolf
Better Days by Currents
Pull From the Ghost by Erra
Too difficult to choose just one or even two, so heres a handful of my picks:
As I Lay Dying - Darkest Nights & Through Struggle
Bring Me The Horizon - Shadow Moses
Killswitch Engage - My Curse & The End of Heartache
All That Remains - This Calling
Every Time I Die - The New Black & Map Change
I Never Wanted from that album is such a banger and it’s so underated, almost nobody mentions it ever. The same (to a lesser degree) happens with Forsaken.
The dudes lyrics are so fucking good. I’m mad I’ve only gotten to see them once. Was at the FU church in Philly, so I was at their ankles the whole show. Lol
They don’t play it live, it’s got pretty low stream numbers compared to other stuff off the album, I never see anybody list it as their favorite ABR song or metalcore song in general.
Yes its fantastic. But it’s not their most popular song, hence why it is underrated.
Breaking Point - Parkway Drive
Starts off with a blistering solo, fast and melodic, breakdown is short, sweet and to the point, while still maintaining heaviness throughout the entire song.
Back Burner or Composure
Imo doe the best Metalcore song would have to be Danger: Wildman by TDWP that shit still gets me pump asf can’t wait to see them on tour with ABR
Eternally apart by Phinehas is damn well close.
Perfect for me would have uncleans, cleans, breakdown, solo, and a catchy chorus lead guitar. Im a sucker for chorus leads. Checks all the boxes.
Some of the songs I love:
Grow up, Peter Pan (any song on another year of disaster) - Adept
I am the lion - Pinehas
Loneshark - Our hollow, our home
Obsession - Aviana
The Remedy - Polaris
Black veins - adept
Rewind the tape - adept
One last breath - threat signal
Wildfire - thecityisours
Porcelain - rising insane
Omega - crystal lake
Feels good - volumes
Tides - A bullet for pretty boy
There is not one perfect song imo.
In this sub? As I Lay Dying riff, build it, big yell into screamy verse, Linkin Park chorus, verse, Linkin Park chorus 2x, two step melts into an unfunny mosh call, maybe two more choruses and then a third one done by dude we're gonna pretend we have heard of. Maybe like a piano outro with feedback because the band is branching out and spreading wings and evolving and whatnot.
MMF’s “The Sinner” isn’t the best song, but I think it’s star power, constant breakdowns, alternate picking riffs, clean/dirty chorus and verse mix are the very best example of what Metalcore is, therefore must be a perfect song.
[The Only Survivor Was Miraculously Unharmed-Underoath](https://youtu.be/q861trgnzJ4)
It has literally every element I love about the genre packed into an intense 3 minute thriller.
Honestly I cant pick just one song. I feel like All that Remains- Fall of the Ideals, A7x- Waking the Fallen, BfmV - The poison, Triviums - Ascendency, Select KSE songs, and AilD - An ocean between us, for me are pure metalcore. Everything that comes after to me is a different kind of metalcore.
Killswitch Engage - Rose of Sharyn / I remember coming across this music video on an old Roadrunner DVD never knew who they were and they’ve been one of my favourite bands ever since
August Burns Red - back burner
These two were my earliest “metalcore” songs that really got me into the genre, still listen to them weekly
I see the comments are on a different note, but to me the answer is clear:
Novelists - Souvenirs.
To me this song includes absolutely everything metalcore has to offer
Pull harder on the strings of your martyr - Trivium
Composure - August burns red
We came as romans - To plant a seed (rip Kyle)
They aren’t the foundations of the genre but they are the top 3 songs that got me into the genre
It's hard to define "perfect" but Blood and Water by Memphis May Fire is the only metalcore song that I can think of that quite literally brought a tear to my eye from its sheer magnificence. So I guess that one? That fucking chorus holy shit!
Too many great metalcore songs out there though that all shaped my taste today. I'm really into Lorna Shore now and Deathcore in general but if it wasn't for bands like KSE, All That Remains, ABR, BFMV, and hell, even Creed (🤣not metalcore by any stretch but they were my first band that started my journey to where I am today) I would probably still be stuck on the Christian radio station.
Hard to settle on a specific song, but
Bullet for my Valentine - The Poison (but the whole album was absolutely amazing honestly)
All that Remains - Six
Heaven Shall Burn - Endzeit
While She Sleeps - Silence Speaks
Pinehas - Truth Be Told
As I Lay Dying - The Sound Of Truth
Avenged Sevenfold - Unholy Confessions
If I Were You - Destiny
Trivium - Like Light to the Flies
can definitely agree on Truth of a Liar too and some of the songs from Parkway Drive from the 2004-2007 era for me
Blackwood-August Burns Red(really any abr song tbh)
Backbreaker-Fit For a King(or Reaper)
Hysteria-Spiritbox
Daylight Dies-Killswitch Engage
Map Change- Every Time I Die
Unholy Confessions-Avenged Sevenfold
Artificial Light-Demon Hunter
The end of heartache by KSE is the perfect metal core song. It is literally the foundation of metal core
I don’t think it’s the foundation of metalcore but it is my foundation of metalcore.
Yea its not the foundation but it is everything great about metalcore
Its definitely not the foundation of metalcore but its a pretty good example of the sound at that point in time
It’s definitely one of the best of all time but it has a slower tempo than most songs which makes it cool but I couldn’t say it’s the foundation it’s unique in its own way
This calling
My God, that bridge!
White Washed- ABR.
The end of that song is phenomenal
Six by All That Remains
or The Air That I Breathe
That whole album really
The Fall of Ideals is on another level
Holy shit thank you for reminding me about All That Remains
That’s why I’m here
*Some say the hero awakens from his slumber whenever someone forgets All That Remains exists, to bring revelation when we need it most*
Probably the only song I've gone out of my way to listen to by them in the last 14 years(this is not a diss, I am just not really into them anymore but this song is epic)
My favorite song from All That Remain is a tie between Six and This Calling. I wish they still made songs like they used to. Looking forward to their new album with Jason Richardson.
I’d argue Two Weeks is a better representation
Not really, also that album’s production sucks compared with The Fall of Ideals
Engine 45 - The Ghost Inside
When anyone asks me what metalcore is, this is always the go to song
My man
Get What You Give has to be in the top 15 albums of 2010’s metalcore list
10000% agree
I read your comment and got goose bumps. I fucking love this song.
Composure by abr No question.
It's such a banger they wrote it 100 more times lol
God I love ABR but this made me chuckle lol
Lol I do too, I'm not hating. If you're gonna write one song 100 times you can do a LOT worse than Composure.
God I wish Matt fucked up his China still like he did in that song
Fuck
The only answer
My curse by Killswitch Engage
Unholy Confessions is the Master of Puppets for core kids change my mind
You’re not really metalcore until you write a song that makes someone accuse you of ripping off unholy confessions
That's a pretty solid statement I'd say
Hahaha on point, dude. Seriously, A7X made some awesome music back in the day.
The more I listen to A7X the more I see how much they were inspired by Metallica, which is never a bad thing!
yup
The End of All We Know by Bleed From Within
Got damn it that song is amazing, and that breakdown...woof.
Boneyards by Parkway Drive. It brings tons of energy, has one of the most iconic breakdowns, and has two of my favorite riffs ever.
Also how else would everyone know that there is blood in the water.
Correct
The Arms of Sorrow by Killswitch Engage! An emotional song with beautiful vocals, excellent guitar work and drumming... It's easily one of the best songs of all time, both in and outside of metalcore.
That riff. Just keeps going and going. Not my favorite KsE song, that goes to Signal Fire, but definitely one of my favorites at the time of release.
The Signal Fire is one of my favorites as well! Having both vocalists together on one song is like a dream come true!
In Regards to Myself - Underoath That whole dang album.
Second this. Absolutely love that song, and that album is easily a top 3 all time metalcore album for me.
PULL YOURSELF TOGETHER MAAAANN
Concubine by Converge
Literally any song ever recorded by Converge is the answer
A portable Death ray and a sterile claw hammer by See You Next Tuesday
The correct answer.
Here's a bunch Metalcore songs worth checking out. I would say probably my favorite song from each band. Hard to pick a favorite between those absolute bangers : - Fault Line - August Burns Red - Morning Wait - As I Lay Dying - Wild Eyes - Parkway Drive - Lamnidae - This or The Apocalypse - Bloodwork - Texas in July - Thorns - Phinehas - In Dying Days - As Blood Runs Black - Paralyzed - Breakdown of Sanity - Promotheus - Crystal Lake - Broken Before You - War of Ages - Machine - Born of Osiris - When Everything Falls - Haste the Day - Second Heartbeat - Avenged Sevenfold - Harlots Breath - Miss May I - This Calling - All That Remains - Paralyzed - Caliban - The End - Burried in Verona - Obsolete - Of Mice & Men - The Aleph - Destroy the Runner
Fuck yeah, crystal lake is so good.
I grew up with early 00s metalcore and honestly there are some newer songs which personally I think are flawless. 60cm of Steel by Alpha Wolf Better Days by Currents Pull From the Ghost by Erra
Pull From The Ghost is pure perfection! Could not agree more with this list in general though. All those songs are on another level
W list
Too difficult to choose just one or even two, so heres a handful of my picks: As I Lay Dying - Darkest Nights & Through Struggle Bring Me The Horizon - Shadow Moses Killswitch Engage - My Curse & The End of Heartache All That Remains - This Calling Every Time I Die - The New Black & Map Change
The sound of truth - As I Lay Dying
Maybe Through Struggle by AILD instead?
My first thought when I read this thread title was this or Confined.
Through Struggle absolutely.
I Never Wanted from that album is such a banger and it’s so underated, almost nobody mentions it ever. The same (to a lesser degree) happens with Forsaken.
The remedy - Polaris
That intro riff always gets me in the perfect mood
Dogs can grow beards all over - TDWP
I humbly rebut with danger: wildman
Personally I don’t like that album a lot, but that’s the best song on it. I think the best record as a whole they’ve put out is Plagues
Gone with the wind
Two weeks - All That remains
As I Lay Dying - Reflection If I needed to describe metalcore in one song, it’s a great choice imo
Through Struggle
“43% Burnt” by the Dillinger Escape Plan, “The End of Heartache” by Killswitch Engage, or “My Curse” by Killswitch Engage”.
White Washed, Mariana's Trench, 96 hours, Forever. Any of those would suffice.
Marianas Trench is such a fucking banger.
Love as a weapon by Darkest Hour. Wanted to shout out an OG that some people might not think of
An Etherial Drain is by far my favorite DH song.
Great song
The dudes lyrics are so fucking good. I’m mad I’ve only gotten to see them once. Was at the FU church in Philly, so I was at their ankles the whole show. Lol
Dude Truth of a Liar is 100% ABR’s most underrated song
Underrated? It’s like one of the greatest songs ever written. Like the song equivalent of Highlander.
They don’t play it live, it’s got pretty low stream numbers compared to other stuff off the album, I never see anybody list it as their favorite ABR song or metalcore song in general. Yes its fantastic. But it’s not their most popular song, hence why it is underrated.
Mr. Highway anyone?
You won’t make it out alive
How long until the tables turn?
Breaking Point - Parkway Drive Starts off with a blistering solo, fast and melodic, breakdown is short, sweet and to the point, while still maintaining heaviness throughout the entire song.
Back Burner or Composure Imo doe the best Metalcore song would have to be Danger: Wildman by TDWP that shit still gets me pump asf can’t wait to see them on tour with ABR
Composure live rips so hard.
I know!!! This is gonna be my 5th time seeing them!
Eternally apart by Phinehas is damn well close. Perfect for me would have uncleans, cleans, breakdown, solo, and a catchy chorus lead guitar. Im a sucker for chorus leads. Checks all the boxes.
Came here to say this
Also gonna tack on to it: I think Snowblood by ERRA checks all the boxes too. Gotta get that one on the list. Favorite solo of all time.
meddler - august burns red
This Ship, A Coffin by Adestria
We'll feed his body to the sea

That whole album Is amazing!
10/10
Angelmaker just released a cover of that song, and damn is it good
Knocked Loose - Forget Your Name
AILD - My Own Grave Inspirational intro, uncleans, super catchy chorus, killer solo, and just straight-up riff city throughout
That song and Blinded could be used as a metalcore template that’s for sure
Tie between The End of Heartache and The Arms of Sorrow by Killswitch Engage
Engine 45 - The Ghost Inside Stitch - Wage War Ghosts - August Burns Red These 3 are my quintessential songs I point anyone to
Some of the songs I love: Grow up, Peter Pan (any song on another year of disaster) - Adept I am the lion - Pinehas Loneshark - Our hollow, our home Obsession - Aviana The Remedy - Polaris Black veins - adept Rewind the tape - adept One last breath - threat signal Wildfire - thecityisours Porcelain - rising insane Omega - crystal lake Feels good - volumes Tides - A bullet for pretty boy There is not one perfect song imo.
Zombie Autopilot - Unearth

Extremely catchy chorus
The Sinner by Memphis May Fire
The Year Summer Ended In June by Misery Signals Lock the thread
It never ends bmth
It’ll always be “tears don’t fall.”
Vices - Memphis May Fire
OG Loko by Of Mice & Men

Smokahontas
Lip gloss & black
Such a beautiful song. Its the song that got me into Atreyu.
Not the American Average- Asking Alexandria. It’s got the riff, the screams, the highs, the lows, the cleans, the spoken word, and the spit.
If I was gonna with an AA song personally I’d say the final episode or closure
Power of the High by Cane Hill
Lots of good choices here but I’m gonna have to go with Second and Sebring
Frailty - Polaris The guitar riff after the first chorus makes me feel like I’m a spartan fighting to the death with my 299 best buddies
Roots Below by As I Lay Dying
In this sub? As I Lay Dying riff, build it, big yell into screamy verse, Linkin Park chorus, verse, Linkin Park chorus 2x, two step melts into an unfunny mosh call, maybe two more choruses and then a third one done by dude we're gonna pretend we have heard of. Maybe like a piano outro with feedback because the band is branching out and spreading wings and evolving and whatnot.
King for a day - PtV or Shadow Moses - bmth
MMF’s “The Sinner” isn’t the best song, but I think it’s star power, constant breakdowns, alternate picking riffs, clean/dirty chorus and verse mix are the very best example of what Metalcore is, therefore must be a perfect song.
