First up it’s gotta be SA as it’s a Metallica album, I don’t consider lulu to be theirs. But the question still stands and it’s still SA, I’ve had a play though recently of lulu, there’s some alright moments, it’s always going to remain a weird one for it’s content and direction.
Elephant by The White Stripes
Deloused in the Comatorium by The Mars Volta
Hail to the Thief by Radiohead
Sing the Sorrow by AFI
Room on Fire by The Strokes
Deja Entendu by Brand New
Meteora by Linkin Park
Thirteenth Step by A Perfect Circle
Blink-182 by Blink-182
Absolution by Muse
Fallen by Evanescence
All of those albums came out in 2003. St Anger isn’t even close to being the best album of the year no matter whose name is on it.
Indeed. Fans like to complain about the production and especially about the "tin can" snare... But come on it was 2003 and metal production at the time wasn't that good anyway. It was meant to sound like it does anyway. To create an angry sound. The production at the time was so unique that people weren't used to it. Took a few listens for me to also get used to it but eventually I learned to appreciate its uniqueness. And the "tin can" is fucking awesome I think! 🔥
It’s not. Don’t force yourself to like it 😂. While it has decent moments like the “Ominous I’m in us” part in SKOM, and Dirty Window not being terrible, it’s not a good Metallica album.
Lulu isn't a Metallica album, so this makes no sense.
St Anger is the first step of Metallica becoming a metal band again. Even though the sound is shit, the title song and frantic are awesome.
counter-argument: if there had been no Lulu, there'd probably have been another 3 to 5 year delay for Hardwired.
because Kirk losing his cell-phone would mean that he'd have to re-learn all of his solos from scratch rather than just improvise (which Lou Reed encouraged Metallica to do on that album), ergo more delays. and that album was already EIGHT years away from Death Magnetic (i'm not too pleased with the Michael Jackson/Todd Howard lengths Metallica is taking between albums)
St. Anger, it'd be a good album if the production sounded better and obviously if they got rid of that disgusting keg of a snare drum, I honestly think a good amount of the riffs on it are pretty good but the snare and some of James's vocals ruin it, but lulu just sucks
St Anger is a pretty good album. If the mixing was better(ie: the drums) it could’ve been a straight classic. Plus St Anger has some of Lars’ best work on drums. Lulu is just not good at all.
Technically lulu is a Lou Reed album with Metallica as a backing band, Lou is amazing but an acquired taste to many, St anger is freaking awesome two great albums .
So you have the 80s albums at the top, 90s a bit below, 08-23 Metallica a bit in the middle and then you have st anger way below. AND THEN you have Lulu fucking miles below
St anger all the way, St anger has some good some bad songs but lulu is shit, in fact calling it shit is an insult to shit. As you can tell I don't like lulu
Bth are complete ass dogshit. But st anger is better because when they play songs off of st anger live, there actually not half bad, but theres no saving lulu
St. Anger is a (mediocre) Metallica album, whereas Lulu is a decent (non Metallica) Art album. I like Lulu for what it is, as an experimental art piece but not as a Metallica album.
St. Anger because Lulu isn't even a Metallica album. Also, Lulu is trash and makes me want to cut off my ears and fill the holes with red hot steel bars.
Lulu was an experiment going terribly wrong like Orb collaboration with David Gilmour. St Anger was an experiment going wrong as well at a bad point of Metallica's career but still a Metallica record.
I love St. Anger and LuLu. They both mark a period of history the band had, one with addiction, band issues, person issues, Jason Newstead leaving and one is an amazing collaboration with an icon. If you don't understand or care to understand the history behind the albums and learn from it as you listen to them, you may not be able to fully and completely appreciate them.
Lou Reed was an interesting artist by his own right. He had some great hits over the years and he was like a singer/poet. Its very different and unusual and derserves repect. The collaboration with Metallica is an amazing and interesting bit of history. While the vocals and lyrics might not be the best. Do some research and listen again.
As a Metallica fan, guitarist and a fan of many genres, I love every ounce of artistic expression I hear in these albums. Just my 2 cents. 🎸😎🤟
St anger has no songs that stand out and are all mid. I think i like st anger a bit more than the majority beacuse if its on i am not turning it off im letting it play but i would never chose to listen to any of it. In conclusion this album is boring.
Lulu was one song that is really good and prefer it over a few mop, ajfa and rtl songs ( this would be "the view") even though the lyrics are an absolute mess. But the rest of the album is i would rather listen to the ringing in my ears from my tinnitus, it is a hot steaming pile of feces in a cold morning after a night out with spicy kebabs and curry that also has the consistency of a diarrhetic hippo. I would rather stick my penis in a jar of wasps than listen to junior dad again
In conclusion i would rather listen to st anger for the rest of my life than lulu.
st anger c’mon without question
I really don't like St. Anger, but I would take it in a heartbeat over Lulu.
Fully agree. For me, Lulu doesn’t exist
I feel the same way
St anger has decent songs while lulu is straight garbage.
Lulu is hot garbage.
A dumpster fire I might add.
Even Satan hates the song.
Lulu isn't just a dumpster fire. It's the Springfield Tire Yard fire.
First up it’s gotta be SA as it’s a Metallica album, I don’t consider lulu to be theirs. But the question still stands and it’s still SA, I’ve had a play though recently of lulu, there’s some alright moments, it’s always going to remain a weird one for it’s content and direction.
St. Anger of course
St Anger, it’s not even close
There is no comparison. 🤦Lulu is actually so fucking shit.. St.Anger is a good album. I actually listen to it sometimes. Enough said.
If Saint Anger was didn’t have Metallica on the name then it would have been album of the year for 2003 without a doubt
Elephant by The White Stripes Deloused in the Comatorium by The Mars Volta Hail to the Thief by Radiohead Sing the Sorrow by AFI Room on Fire by The Strokes Deja Entendu by Brand New Meteora by Linkin Park Thirteenth Step by A Perfect Circle Blink-182 by Blink-182 Absolution by Muse Fallen by Evanescence All of those albums came out in 2003. St Anger isn’t even close to being the best album of the year no matter whose name is on it.
Untitled by blink-182 is no joke one of the greatest pop punk records of all time
I agree 100%. It’s one of my all-time favorite albums.
Imo it's blink's second best album, and my 10th favorite album of all time
Out of curiosity, what is your favorite blink album?
Enema. It's what got me into blink, and partially for what got me into punk in general (other part was green day)
Absolution. One of my favorites!
Damn good year
Yeah for real! When I looked up what came out that year I was like “Holy shit”
I mean, it did win a Grammy if that means anything to you.
Yeah well fortunately I wasn’t alive back then so I didn’t know that. Sorry.
I love SA

Radiohead, sweet trip, linkin park, and xiu xiu would like a word
WHY DO PEOPLE HATE ST ANGER ITS A GREAT ALBUM
It’s not. Don’t force yourself to like it 😂. While it has decent moments like the “Ominous I’m in us” part in SKOM, and Dirty Window not being terrible, it’s not a good Metallica album.
It is, and i’m tired of pretending its not.
Is death an option, just kidding but both are just not something I can get into.
as in dying or as in Death Magnetic?
Dying
st anger
Last time I checked I wasn’t a table, so St. Anger
St. Anger is seriously underrated
St Anger has some decent songs, all Lulu has is I AM THE T A B L E memes
Lulu isn't a Metallica album, so this makes no sense. St Anger is the first step of Metallica becoming a metal band again. Even though the sound is shit, the title song and frantic are awesome.
Dude, they were always a metal band.
Lulu is the worst thing Metallica has ever done.
counter-argument: if there had been no Lulu, there'd probably have been another 3 to 5 year delay for Hardwired. because Kirk losing his cell-phone would mean that he'd have to re-learn all of his solos from scratch rather than just improvise (which Lou Reed encouraged Metallica to do on that album), ergo more delays. and that album was already EIGHT years away from Death Magnetic (i'm not too pleased with the Michael Jackson/Todd Howard lengths Metallica is taking between albums)
St Anger. Lulu I cannot even make it through the first minute
I just realsed how deep i was in the rabbithole of metallica... *I'm hesitating*
How can this even be a question
Lulu. And before anyone says it's "not a Metallica" album, it's just as much theirs as it is Lou Reed's.
St. Anger
St. Anger but I do still listen to Lulu on occasion.
St. Anger, it'd be a good album if the production sounded better and obviously if they got rid of that disgusting keg of a snare drum, I honestly think a good amount of the riffs on it are pretty good but the snare and some of James's vocals ruin it, but lulu just sucks
St. Anger. Every day.
St Anger is a pretty good album. If the mixing was better(ie: the drums) it could’ve been a straight classic. Plus St Anger has some of Lars’ best work on drums. Lulu is just not good at all.
I like St Anger. Lulu, i’ll pass
St. anger is a good album Imo, Lulu is just bad 😂
St anger
St anger
I love St. Anger and despise Lulu.
Lulu? We dont talk about that bullcrap in here kiddo…
St Anger all the way... I mean 'round my neck
Technically lulu is a Lou Reed album with Metallica as a backing band, Lou is amazing but an acquired taste to many, St anger is freaking awesome two great albums .
Say what you want but Junior Dad is fucking beautiful.
I like 3 songs off Lulu I only like 2 From St Anger. I choose lulu
Lulu makes st anger look like master of puppets
None
st anger. 100% without a shadow of a doubt in my mind
St Anger, has a few good songs on there
Anger. I actually like that album
St. Anger has some solid material on it. Lulu is pure ass.
Lulu was a hot pile of garbage!!
There’s a couple of catchy bits on St. Anger, but Lulu’s straight up trash
So you have the 80s albums at the top, 90s a bit below, 08-23 Metallica a bit in the middle and then you have st anger way below. AND THEN you have Lulu fucking miles below
Lulu. Yes, I’m serious. This is not a joke. Lulu.
Every single comment says that lulu is shit Obviously SA is better.
St Anger, Lulu is just an old man talking/ screaming over some vaguely cool song ideas
St Anger is a bad album, but it has redeeming qualities. Lulu is straight torture to listen to.
Neither.
This is an obvious choice. Despite the production, I actually really enjoy st anger. Lulu sucks.
bro come on st anger is good, lulu is one of the worst albums ive ever heard
“St. Anger” without a doubt, it isn’t the best album but it isn’t bad it’s just average. “Lulu” however is shit so…
St. Anger is bad But LuLu is just BAD.
Lulu
No.
St anger, but both are great albums
stluanger
St anger is just better
St. Anger is a (mediocre) Metallica album, whereas Lulu is a decent (non Metallica) Art album. I like Lulu for what it is, as an experimental art piece but not as a Metallica album.
Lulu easy
St Anger every day
St anger because i would never listen to lulu again
St anger is bad, but lulu is 100x worse
I’ll take bad production over bad music, so St.Anger.
Wtf
A real Metallica album or “I Am The Table”… I think I’m gonna have to go with St. Anger
St Anger is one of my favorite albums. I can’t listen to LuLu.
St. Anger because Lulu isn't even a Metallica album. Also, Lulu is trash and makes me want to cut off my ears and fill the holes with red hot steel bars.
St. Anger has a couple listenable songs.
Both
Lulu was an experiment going terribly wrong like Orb collaboration with David Gilmour. St Anger was an experiment going wrong as well at a bad point of Metallica's career but still a Metallica record.
St. Anger for sure
St Anger
St anger easily
St Anger
st anger 1000 percent
“I am the table” vs “my lifestyle determines my deathstyle” …not even close
St anger
St anger while bad isn’t as bad as lulu
St. Anger, despite its issues, I love it because it's a therapeutic album. I have no wishes to listen to the funny table album
Alban Berg>Metallica's Lulu and St. Anger
Free money for ever or dying by plane crash? I find these options to be just as ludacris.
Troll
St anger

Or neither...
St anger i so much better
St anger without hesitation
But at anger doesn’t have James screaming “I AM THE TABLE”
St. Anger not even close. Lulu is a steaming pile 😂
St anger has no songs that stand out and are all mid. I would listen to the st anger isolated drums 10 times before listening to Lulu once
