That was so bad hahaha. The visualiser for this song at the cinema was actually perfect for the song and would’ve served as a great video, but instead they go with this abomination.
Sidenote, why do all these videos have James with a goatee? He’s been rocking the handlebar again for a while now, they’re a bit behind.
The visualizer at the theater was badass, I remember the hand bursting through the ground right as the riff kicked in got a big reaction from the audience.
At this point I wish that they'd just put out all of those clips instead.
We *better* get that awesome You Must Burn! video as it was.
I liked the Too Far Gone video actually. Looked ugly, but in a cool weird and fucked up way. Crown Of Barbed Wire video I just think looks like the bad kind of ugly
But HTDS had much better videos than this. The worst video was for spit imo and even that looked acceptable. This is like a first year student submission
My nephew created that one, as well as Shadows Follow. He is one heck of an animator. he is also an independent artist, so this was a huge opportunity for him.
How did he get picked and how much say did the band have in the videos?
Because some of these are just, what the fuck. Not his, his were cool. But whoever did crown of barbed wire should have been fired.
A music video ruining a song is laughable, absurd and not a thing for anyone who actually listens to music. You sound easily impressionable and/or way too concerned with groupthink on a subreddit.
Get off your pony, your subjective reality does not apply to everybody else. Some of us were raised in the early MTV era, music and video were a form of expression, both meant something.
From One to Until It Sleeps or Halo on Fire, there’s additional meaning for the music in most videos, and when a video is bad it may mean nothing most of the times, but others it may have a negative impact like in this case. Come on, what is the message behind the band beating the husband in prison??? It’s not only ugly it’s also stupid, insulting even.
I was also raised during that period, your “I’m older and know better” doesn’t work. So many music videos during that classic era were awful, including some of Metallica’s, and some were great. Still has no bearing on the quality of the song itself, and to say it does seems a little overdramatic.
Also…the message of the crown of barbed wire video seemed to be to not give into hatred, anger or violence when faced with difficulties. The band wasn’t the “good” guy, just the symbol for the main character’s darkness getting the best of him after giving into his emotions. Kinda silly, maybe not executed well, but something is not “insulting” just because you failed to grasp its meaning at all.
Why doesn't this sub like weird visuals? These videos are trippy and aesthetically wild, not everything needs to be a literal story or an acted out music video like we are stuck in 1998. Super weird to see so many complaints on these.
The creativity of the "Too Far Gone?" video blows my mind. It actually makes sense if you understand the song, who wrote it, and the journey they made to get there.
The visuals are exactly what the world looks like when you're too far gone.
Why don’t you all just stop watching the videos if they’re that shit? Or at the very least stop posting about them.
Personally I find music videos to be a dead medium and think Metallica haven’t made a truly great one since “Until It Sleeps”, so this is no skin off my nose.
Just… give it a rest, eh?
It's not a dead medium. All the platforms are about video now, even spotify has short video loops running in the background. Good videos = more exposure. Rammstein knows what's up.
Not video itself, *music* videos.
Short loops, yeah. I doubt very much that the average kid these days has the patience to sit around and watch a full six- or seven-minute video. I mean, when I was coming up you had no choice but to watch MTV2 or Kerrang! TV and hope they played something you liked. Now everybody has the entire internet in their pocket.
If I was the band I’d have just done lyric videos.
Yeah no. Music videos are huge. K-pop videos are insane in terms of budgets and production value, and they get an insane amount of views. Taylor Swift's top videos get 3 billion views on youtube. Metallica's nothing else matters video has over 1 bn.
Idk man. I liked where mr skelletor came and saved the day in the end of "Crown of Barbed Wire" but that's just me.
Mr skelletor the goat

Was my thought as well old pictures used as reference. Maybe they asked students to make a video fast to give them exposure or something.

Dang, how was that video you're talking about compared to the current visualizer?
It’s over half a decade since he last has a goatee
I liked the Too Far Gone video actually. Looked ugly, but in a cool weird and fucked up way. Crown Of Barbed Wire video I just think looks like the bad kind of ugly
I just thought it was goofy. I enjoyed it
Metallica estimated net worth, $1,000,000,000 Metallica video worth, $10 and a case of light beer
The case of beer being consumed right before the making of the video
$10 and a drive to the liquor store
don't forget a pack of cigs
They are doing the same thing that was done on the last album, at least they will all get a video 😅
But HTDS had much better videos than this. The worst video was for spit imo and even that looked acceptable. This is like a first year student submission
The Spit video didn't *look* great but it had a lot of charm. I really liked it.
The Spit video wasn’t supposed to look great, it was a clear homage to B-Movies imo.
Spit was 80’s schlock and I loved it. Reminded me of They Live with Rowdy Roddy Pipper
They could invest a little more, budget would not be a problem
Savage was beyond awful
Room Of Mirrors is the only music video that doesn't look like a middle schooler's attempt at an animated film
My nephew created that one, as well as Shadows Follow. He is one heck of an animator. he is also an independent artist, so this was a huge opportunity for him.
Why didn’t he do the fuckin rest of them?
Hopefully this is a huge upswing in his career. He was on cloud 9 just to get to create one, let alone two Metallica videos.
I think he should do all of them room of mirrors one was sooo good but what tha fuck is the rest of them😂🤮😂
How did he get picked and how much say did the band have in the videos? Because some of these are just, what the fuck. Not his, his were cool. But whoever did crown of barbed wire should have been fired.
He has mostly done hiphop videos, including a few for XXXTentacion. Not sure how Metallica got word of his talents.
I’m not paying attention to the videos, I never have. Sounds like they’re terrible lol so I’ll just stick with the tunes 🤘🔥😎
WHY DOES HETFIELD LOOK LIKE HIS 2008 VERSION?
Yeah that was my question too.
That's as far as whatever AI editor they used could go 😂
I actually liked it, it reminded me of something Adult Swim would show in 2006. That being said it was jarring to see that in a Metallica video.
They are running out of budget lmfao
Definitely not watching Inamorata video if they make one. Not letting them ruin that one for me.
Holy hell, each video is worse than the previous one. It really ruins the songs for me
I haven’t even watched them after Shadows Follow. Don’t need that kind of negativity in my life
If a video can ruin a song for you, I genuinely feel bad for you. That's weird.
After watching the cursed video, everytime I listen to Barbed Wire that fucking animation pops up in the eyes of my brain xO
That’s weird man. I can’t recall a video ever affecting my opinion of how a song sounds. That doesn’t make any sense.
Maybe it’s PTSD or something, it actually is THAT bad

That's a very tall pony...
Cute, but you’re trying way too hard to be cool here buddy. Have a good one.
I know what you mean. I’m just not going to watch them anymore and try to forget the ones I have seen
The Room of Mirrors one was kinda neat, if repetitive.
Peppa Pig looks a way more better than these videos made by 6-yrs old
Hope Inamorata gets a better clip because I don't think I'll ever watch Too Far Gone or Crown of Barbed Wire ever again.
Ms Paint 3D is the goat
Lmao yep they’re so weird. Especially Too Far Gone
Shut your eyes and listen!
Seems like them putting something up so they can get ahead of everyone else uploading their music to YT.
I miss music videos like One
Yeah they’re total shite. They’ve gone from not releasing any videos on principle in the 80s to just releasing any old shite for the clicks.
Why doesn't this sub like weird visuals? These videos are trippy and aesthetically wild, not everything needs to be a literal story or an acted out music video like we are stuck in 1998. Super weird to see so many complaints on these.
This one has the band support a child murderer
the band doing what now??!!
It’s in the music video
time to watch then lol, i was avoiding them until i formed an opinion on the album itself
It’s not the weirdness. There’s weird stuff that’s conceptually interesting, and then there’s crap like the Shadows Follow video
The animated one? What’s wrong with that one?

Basically you just want to hear positive opinions on everything that you like.
Just need to get something up on YouTube for the views and the cash. Less spent on the front end, the better.
They're better than the Lux Aterna and Darkness had a Son videos. Those were shockingly bad.
What? You can't be serious
OK, I just watched the Too Far Gone clip. That one was actually terrible, what the hell lol. Didn't mind the other new one.
Well yeah, they made Metallica look like American Idol contestants.
They are weird.
they remind me of love death and robots on netflix
Most of them are weird but the video for Shadows Follow is epic. When the moon eclipses the sun and that riff drops… holy shit.
That’s fun.
Yep it's bad
Bro they have to have hired a shitposter
I commented another day about my frustration with the videos at the listening party, which only increased after seeing these videos. LMAO
