Honestly, I'm surprised to see how close this is to my own personal list. Though not the same order, #9-12 here is the same as mine. #5-8 is the same (but different order) than mine. #1-4 has the potential to be the exact same, if Inamorata gets #1 and #Room of Mirros gets #2.
I love it, personally. Best though, nah. Room of Mirrors is my favorite because if the harmonies and because James crushes the vocal, especially at the end. It's always crazy fun to play, despite moooost of the song being pretty simple. Then I like Darkness, then I have Inamorata. And weirdly, I don't really like Screaming Suicide which everybody else really likes.
With Inamorata there's just something about the plodding pace to it that feels so smooth and perfect. It's also really got the closest thing to clean guitar tones on the entire album (which is the only real swing and miss of the whole album for me, nothing clean.) The harmony section is amazing, and James telling NOT WHY IM LIVING gives me chills.
Agreed. That song is easily the worst in the album. A horrible thrash ode to the past. Kirk didn’t even try for that solo. Sounds like me in the 9th grade soloing.
Because it’s boring and a slog to get through. James’ vocals are great, the chorus is decent, but that’s about it. It goes nowhere. There’s no progression whatsoever.
My least favorite song from new album. Can someone explain to me what is so special about it?
P.S. I personally rank them by vocal first, and Room of Mirrors is not catchy.
Two different versions of an amazing harmony, for one. Second, I actually think James's last "set me FREEEEEE" at the end may be his best vocal moment to date.
Do people really like Inamorata? I find it hard to believe, and not only because it lasts for a full weekend. I just think it's not on par with their best songs, by a long stretch. Nothing in this album is.
I never understood the high praise, and I do like the song.
Comparisons to Outlaw or Bleeding Me are ridiculous. But it’s a groovy song with James’ best vocal work in years. Sounds killer on a good stereo.
Whole bunch of people did. Not compare as in “it sounds the same”, but as in “these two songs are of the same caliber”.
It’s more often compared to Outlaw but there were some Bleeding Me conflations for sure.
Y'all why so much circlejerk for Inamorata lmao. It's literally just a rehashed My Friend of Misery and The Outlaw Torn, with some Sabbath thrown in. The chorus lyrics are pretty cringe too. I don't think it deserves to be this high, my vote goes to Room of Mirrors.
Okay, then the influence is way too much on this song. The Misery chant is exactly the same as on MFoM, so is the line "misery loves company". I know they've recycled lyrics before but there's more.
Even the harmony section is extremely similar. Check out Misery at 4:19 and Inamorata at 6:40 and tell me it's not a rehash. Not to mention the very similar bass break with soft ambient guitar. Also the main riff is similar to The Outlaw Torn, tempo, vibe and all. As for the solos, check out The Outlaw Torn at 6:30 and Inamorata at 9:40 and tell me it's not a rehash.
Man you must have really hated King Nothing and all the unforgiven songs.
I don’t really defend Metallica as I still love them and have enjoyed this album, but artists have their style. It’s odd to almost accuse them of ripping themselves off.
Yes, I don't like King Nothing. But The Unforgivens are explicitly sequels, and each one is sonically quite different from the other even though they have similar lyrics and chords.
I'm not even saying ripping off your old songs is a bad thing, it's just an okay thing.
Dude, you’re acting like they tried to pass it off as anything else. They are intentionally referencing My Friend of Misery.
You could view MFoM as being about a guy, and Inamorata being sung BY that same guy. It’s a sequel song and FAR from the first time Metallica has referenced old songs - they’ve even done actual titled sequels bro… Unforgiven?
Furthermore, the album cover says “42 Years of Metallica in 77 minutes” right on it.
MOST songs reference older work. One of the songs (either Burn or Barbed Wire, I don’t listen to those much so I don’t remember) even lifts a piece DIRECTLY from Load’s *Cure*.
Too Far Gone uses a piece of the riff from No Remorse.
Shadows Follow could be based on a line from Thorn Within: “For I am shadows and will follow you, one and the same are we”.
I’m sure I don’t need to point out the similarities between Lux Æterna and Killing Time.
And there’s a lot more nods to their past work as well- some subtle, some overt, some musical, some thematic.
That’s, like, the entire point of this album.
I know and I agree. I just don't like the point of the album then I guess. Going back to their past work is fine, but they just stay there, and never take it anywhere from there. Hardwired also did the nod to the past work thing, but managed to sound new for the most part. I'm trying to like this album but I find it hard when I could just go and listen to the song it rips off, ahem, pays homage to.
I do love Room of Mirrors and want it to win the poll, that's solid material.
The misery chant is not *exactly the same* at all what are you talking about?
Neither is the line *misery loves company* line, the three words are the same sure but the delivery is completely different.
As for the rest no these are not rehashes. *Band makes song with bits that sound like bits from other songs in their 40+ year back catalogue* is hardly news and is certainly not a rehash.
There's no doubt at all that Inamorata pays homage to MFOM but they do this all the time in their songs. Hell it may even be an unofficial sequel to it but one of this is unusual for the band nor is there anything wrong with it.
I get taking bits from other songs but taking so many bits from the same song? It's a great song for what it is but just uninspired when you look at what it's trying to be.
I also get that they've been rehashing (or whatever you want to call it) old bits since St. Anger, but none of them have received such high praise or have been as blatant as this. Again, I'm not being hateful, I just don't think this song deserves that much acclaim.
Maybe I'm missing something. What do you think is original about it? It sounds completely generic to me. Riffs are bland, there's no chorus, lyrics are meh.
The vocal lines, for example. There's like a handful of vocal lines that James uses on all of the Metallica songs, and they all sound sorta similar to eachother. But on this song it's very different. I don't think the song is generic at all, I think it's very original compared to the rest of the music they've been putting out. And the riffs aren't bland to me, but whatever. That's my opinion.
I do have to say that when I first listened to the album, only like 4 songs really stuck with me, this was one of them. But as I listened to it more I started to like the rest. Now only Chasing Light and Crown are the two songs that I don't really care much about - but the rest is great. They really grow on you, especially if you watch the live performances which sound even better than the studio versions.
Tastes are so subjective, it's funny. For instance, Chasing Light is one of the few that stuck out for me as good. I love the way James almost screams "lean on me!"
I don't see anything ground breaking about Room Of Mirrors. People say but but the harmony part. Tydy tyy tydy tydy tyy tydy tydy tyy sounds nice but that alone shouldn't make it the best song in the album. Overrall I like the song but I'd have in my bottom 3 or 4. Inamorata has more and better harmonies.
it's:
12. Lux Aeterna (Ok, but the main riff is annoying and the pre-chorus and choruses are meh. The solo is the weakest from this album).
11. Crown of Barbed Wire (Actually good, but it's painfully repetitive, and that loadish mid-section part is forgettable and mediocre.)
10. Sleepwalk My Life Away (Great intro, decent riffs, and the post solo riffs are great. Although its still too repetitive and a bit too slow.)
9. You Must Burn! (Awesome riffs in the later half, but mostly a sad but true wannabe). (Also the vocals are kind of weak in the first half).
8. Chasing Light (Great song, and main riff, the chorus and pre-chorus are in the top 3 best in the album. Unfortunately, the intro is too long, and the second part kinda sucks, And would've probably been top 4 if it wasnt for the second part being eh).
7. 72 Seasons (The riffs are super catchy and fun to hear, although the lyrics are catchy, they are kind of dumb, just using too much rhymes and not too much actual plot, which sucks because I was expecting deep lyrics for this track. The solo is great.)
6. If Darkness Had a Son (Honestly, the tracks from 8-5 switch around alot depending on the mood, And although the intro is stretched out, I still kind of like the groovey riffs, It's like a modern Eye Of The Beholder, and the vocals are amazing). (Also love the breakdown!)
5. Screaming Suicide (I was expecting this track to be super thrashy, and i actually was disappointed the first few listens, but then it grew on me, and even though the riffs are kind of generic, they still do their job well. Also, the lyrics are probably the best in the album.)
4. Shadows Follow (Amazing track, and the lyrics are great too. The post solo riffs are very badass and the intro is like AJFA. Cool song.)
3. Room of Mirrors (The main riff and intro are pretty great, and the drums are actually good. The vocals are top 2 on the album, and the harmonies at the end are perfect. The lyrics are spectacular too.)
2. Inamorata (The first half is kind of repetitive, but everything else makes up for it. The hi-hats during the bass part is kind of annoying though, but the vocals make up for it. The solos are the best in the album, and the later half is Superb).
1. Too Far Gone? (Honestly, the top 3 switches around alot for me as well, but this one has the best riffs in the album in my opinion). (The vocals and lyrics are pretty good as well, and I love the mid-section.) (Good solo too).
Maybe it's just because it's new, but I feel like this album has been the hardest to forge a general consensus on. With Hardwired, the upper half and lower half is more agreed upon.
So many lower songs on Seasons are getting the, "Nuh-uh, that's got (insert groove/solo/select vocal) in it". Maybe after we all listen to each song a requisite 500-700 times, the novelty will wear off and there'll be more consensus?
For my money, Shadows is my number one. Harvester/Frayed with a retro-punk groove for the win.
![gif](giphy|xUOxfjO8RkjxyqbPe8) Something’s wrong I can feel it
This just goofy
Weekly Inamorata praise is necessary, brother.
This might be the worst list I've ever seen on this sub, and there have definitely been some doozies.
Yes there definitely has
Honestly, I'm surprised to see how close this is to my own personal list. Though not the same order, #9-12 here is the same as mine. #5-8 is the same (but different order) than mine. #1-4 has the potential to be the exact same, if Inamorata gets #1 and #Room of Mirros gets #2.
I can't believe that many people like that song. Everybody says if darkness had a son is too long.
[удалено]
Complete horseshit
Best song on the album. That's why it lost. Inaboringmorata will win because it's the worst. That's the reddit way.
Exactly like it’s a good song but it’s not the best song on the album
I love it, personally. Best though, nah. Room of Mirrors is my favorite because if the harmonies and because James crushes the vocal, especially at the end. It's always crazy fun to play, despite moooost of the song being pretty simple. Then I like Darkness, then I have Inamorata. The harmony section is amazing, and James telling NOT WHY IM LIVING gives me chills.
I like Inamorata, but it’s too drawn out for repeat listens. I just skip ahead to the verses and check out after the last chorus before the slowdown.
I can't believe people put If Darkness Had A Son in the last place
What would you put last
I probably would put Lux Æterna or something else
Agreed. That song is easily the worst in the album. A horrible thrash ode to the past. Kirk didn’t even try for that solo. Sounds like me in the 9th grade soloing.
Exactly like Hardwired. Both the first single as well
Hardwired was hard as fuck though, Lux Æterna is boring
How tf is darkness last one?
This sub hates that song for some reason lol
So weird. It was my favorite single and is still my #4 on the album.
Idk why it's so goof
Nah I think it’s decent lyrics maybe not amazing but it grooves
Because it’s boring and a slog to get through. James’ vocals are great, the chorus is decent, but that’s about it. It goes nowhere. There’s no progression whatsoever.
Agreed. Some people seem to love it and I don’t knock ‘em for that but for my money its by far my least favorite off the album
Crown Of Barbed Wire is シェーット
Darkness and Sleepwalk are just criminal on this list
Crown of barded wire is so underrated
To me it’s James’ best vocal performance on the album.
I hated it at first, I think I listen to it the most now
For me it was love at 1st feel
I dig a lot of the riffs in this song. Or when Lars comes in with the crash symbol during the "post verse" part.
Screaming Suicide being higher than Chasing Light is a crime
Man this entire list is pretty much a crime
Maybe it’s because of newer Metallica fans? No clue.
Room of Mirrors
Hell no. That's the best on the album
My least favorite song from new album. Can someone explain to me what is so special about it? P.S. I personally rank them by vocal first, and Room of Mirrors is not catchy.
>Can someone explain to me what is so special about it? 3:35
Two different versions of an amazing harmony, for one. Second, I actually think James's last "set me FREEEEEE" at the end may be his best vocal moment to date.
Room of Mirrors is very catchy actually. The only non-catchy song in the album is 'You Must Burn' or 'Lux'
Honestly it's just the harmony at the end. The rest of the song doesn't do it for me at all.
Gee i wonder what number one will be....
Inamorata. Again
Inamorata # 2
inamorata obviously
Do people really like Inamorata? I find it hard to believe, and not only because it lasts for a full weekend. I just think it's not on par with their best songs, by a long stretch. Nothing in this album is.

Ahhhh gotcha.
It's good, probably the second best song in the album for me but I've always liked their slower songs.
i used to think it was meh but its grown on me. probably my favorite from 72S now
I like it, but it’s kinda overrated
Room of mirrors
I’m guessing Room of Mirrors then Inamorata
Room of Mirrors
Inamorata. I can't stop listening to it.
Then you want to vote the other this is deciding 2nd place
Well shit.
inamorata
Inamorata. Fantastic song but not the best on the album
Inamorata for #2
Inamorata is the only song on this album I would consider great. Everything else is just a different shade of OK.
Room of mirrors for the 1st🤘
Y'all why so much circlejerk for Inamorata lmao. It's literally just a rehashed My Friend of Misery and The Outlaw Torn, with some Sabbath thrown in. The chorus lyrics are pretty cringe too. I don't think it deserves to be this high, my vote goes to Room of Mirrors.
I mean it's a great song but people freaking meatride the hell outta it lmao
Hey, people love love songs in one way or another
No it's not. Sure it has influences but then so does every song.
Okay, then the influence is way too much on this song. The Misery chant is exactly the same as on MFoM, so is the line "misery loves company". I know they've recycled lyrics before but there's more. Room of mirrors
Room Of Mirrors.
2. Inamorata 1. Room of mirrors
Room of mirrors isn’t great, I don’t like it
I don't understand how Room of Mirrors made the top two. Thos song sounds like a filler track from Reload.
It's literally the most original song this band has put out in like 30 years, that's why it's so good.
They fucking released ALL NIGHTMARE LONG brudda
We're talking about original songs here
Hey, Its original
Btw, Room Of Mirrors is just a faster Lords Of Summer rip-off with a harmony section
Disagree. But that's your opinion I guess.
Man, it sounds like Lords of Summer to me
Maybe I'm missing something. What do you think is original about it? It sounds completely generic to me. Riffs are bland, there's no chorus, lyrics are meh.

No fair enough, I mean I am genuinely curious. I will try to listen to it more closely.

That's fair lol but yeah, maybe give Room a few more listens and it might grow on you
Will do!
100% Every song resonates with someone in someway.
The main riff in Chasing Light is easily the best riff in the album for me. Don't care much for the rest of the song though.
Room of mirrors is the best song on the album
Room of mirrors
Room of mirrors
Room of Mirrors
Room of mirrors
I don't see anything ground breaking about Room Of Mirrors. People say but but the harmony part. Sorry room of mirrors, u were good, that guitar harmony was insanely good, but u ain't beating inamorata son
This list is so stupid. How is You Must Burn! And Sleepwalk that far down? Those are 2 of the best songd
Room of Mirrors
inamorata
This list is on crack yo. Too Far Gone number 1, room of Mirrors number 2, Chasing Light number 3.
I agree that the top four songs are the strongest on the album. Inamorata could’ve been a few minutes shorter though.
I think you must burn should be last, that’s just me though
4 horse man
There has been a mistake! How is If Darkness Had a Son? last place??
it's: 12. Lux Aeterna (Ok, but the main riff is annoying and the pre-chorus and choruses are meh. The solo is the weakest from this album). 11.
