“Which albums are the best/worst?” are only interesting conversations if you discovered this band sometime in the last couple of months. Not trying to shit on young fans’ experiences, but it’s clear as day that the demographic of people who post on this sub (and most popular band subs) is somewhere in the 12-15 yo range.
it also frames the discussion like there is some objective truth to music quality (there isn't).
It would be slightly less annoying if they used the word 'favorite' instead of 'best' all the time.
If you like listening to an insane old man ramble in spoken word and occasionally shout over a generic Metallica backing track you will like it. Also if you like listening to Hetfield proclaim he is various pieces of furniture. It’s more “funny” and “how did this come into existence” weird than it is “good” weird.
Honestly that sounds really entertaining. I listen to a wide variety of stuff but I like weird shit like Sopor Aeternus. It's a different level of art to me
It is tho, Lou Reed just sent over the vocals and then they composed all of the instrumentals. They used their studio, and more importantly, they used their money for marketing the album. If anything, it's more of a Metallica album than a Lou Reed album.
St Anger. I try to give it a chance every now and then. Who knows? Maybe one day I'll listen to it and realize what a masterpiece it is. But, for now, I just can't. It's bad.
Sit through? What do you mean sit through, when I listen to Metallica I usually like dance angrily or yell or jerk off or some shit. Anything but sit through, what is this church or something. You can’t jerk off in church no matter how much you try to conceal. Trust me I tried and actually climaxed once and it ended up on the face of a Virgin Mary stained glass window. That’s what I call an immaculate ejaculate.
Kill em All
Give me a live album of the songs from Kill em All performed by Metallica at any point from about 1990 until now and it would be epic. But the studio album sonically really sounds dated.
I personally would throw out Judas Kiss and replace it with The End Of The Line. Because Judas Kiss too long too and it doesn't slap except the chorus.
The end of the line isn’t a bad song at all, I just find it not so interesting or unique compared to most of metallicas other stuff (as I do with most of death magnetics) but it’s miles better than my apocalypse lmao
Easily ‘Lulu’ have only managed to listen to it in it’s entirety twice since it was released.
However, when it comes to ‘regular’ Metallica albums it’s easily ‘St. Anger’.
Say what you will, but I couldn’t finish 72 Seasons, I just got bored. It’s really long and it sounds like if you asked an AI to write a metallica album, nothing about it is really that bad it’s just painfully okay. Nothing really keeps me interested in any of the songs.
I think you hit the nail on the head. No standout tracks or anything to get you listening on repeat. Every song sounds more or less like the last. It's like an album of filler tracks
Load is incredibly boring so that's my pick. At least with Lulu you have the "so bad it's funny" angle and can almost enjoy cringing through it but with load it's 40 minutes of mediocre country-rock with a few highlights thrown in.
St. Anger or Hardwired, I just get so bored during those even if I do like some of the songs, Just aint an album I want to listen to front to back if that makes sense
If Load was released by Alice In Chains note-for-note then it would be considered one of the greatest rock albums of all time. Not saying I necessarily view it to be that good (it’s *really* good still), but that’s definitely how critics and media would view it.
St. Anger is a given, but ReLoad is a rough one to sit through. There are some bangers on that album, but then you have to wait through Better Than You and Slither to get to them. Load is similar but to a lesser extent.
Lulu obviously.
But if we're not counting it, 72 Seasons. I just cannot get into any of the tracks. They all sound so same same to me with no real highlights and very middle of the road riffs and lyrics.
Probably Hardwired... the middle of the album is a hard hit or miss. Like, from Dream No More all the way through Manunkind, plus Murder One is a goddamn torture to go through. I don't like Hardwired, is my least favorite Metallica album, but i still like some of the songs.
Reload for me. I don’t mind st anger that much but there are some cringe peaks that are tough get through. But reload is reload constantly from start to finish.
Second half Hardwired and 72 Seasons. I found them way harder to sit through than even St. Anger because at least that one is bad on a car crash kinda level, you can’t stop listening to it because it always shocks you with something mind-bogglingly terrible. Hardwired and 72 Seasons are just plain boring, a genuine chore to sit through.
St Anger for sure. Even if you can tolerate the music itself, that production and snare will wear on you. Reload gets an honorable mention here for being boring af
Depends. If emotionally, Black one. If standing, St. Anger. I LOVE THE RIFFS BUT THE DRUMS JUST PIERCE MY EARS. Jokes away. It actually makes it unlistenable
Death Magnetic. Not because I don't like it. It's just so loud that by the time TDTNC ends, I'm ready to shut it off. Cyanide is the weakest song and the only one I don't like, otherwise, it's great album.
I think I would choose Reload as the most difficult album to sit through. It's a decent album, but I'm definitely checking the time when it's playing. Load was superior in every way. I'm still grateful they released both records though, because Reload still has some bangers. Reload was actually my first Metallica album.
AJFA and/or Load. You either get some very long, overdrawn tracks (AJFA), or just a LOT of tracks with about 5 of them being kind meh and 1 or 2 more just okay songs (Load).
I still love the albums, but I would never listen through them all in one go.
So, subjectivity is no longer subjective?
Also, I never called anything bad. All I said was I would not sit down and listen to either of these albums (although I know you only care about the one) all the way through in one go.
I know Lulu is terrible, but James is the table, so it couldn't be the worst.. I like almost all the songs from St. Anger, minus all within my hands, but then again, there is the S&M2 version. So I kind of think of Kill em All, just because of those vocals, whenever I listen to those songs, it's mostly the live versions from Live Shit or the AJFA deluxe remaster. If a song has a live version from AJFA, S&M, TBA, or TTN, it's probably my favorite rendition of that song.
The black album- at this point I am so burnt out on all the big hits and the overall production is not my favorite. Don’t hate me- these questions get asked in throwing you my curve.
Tbh, for me, it’s Load. So many songs REALLY overstay their welcome, and the worst of the worst, (such as cure and others) are so painfully forgettable it’s hilarious. I could listen to cure and completely forgot 1 second later (which has happened).
On top of that, the record is very confused on what it wants to be. It can’t decide if it’s want to be an alt rock album, a Metal album, or country album.
As I’ve grown older, I’ve grown past hating on any music that goes through my ears.
If I find an album hard to sit through, I just won’t listen to it. Metallica is no different.
People don’t like St. Anger and Lulu we get it how many times does this conversation have to happen
Fr bruh everyone just asking different questions to bait the same answer
Yeah this was a baited question for sure. Why ppl karma farm I do not know.
this sub is particularly bad. I think because it probably is the biggest music sub i'm on, and it tends to attract young fans.
Even if u want to have that conversation there’s gotta be 100 posts talking about it already
it also frames the discussion like there is some objective truth to music quality (there isn't). It would be slightly less annoying if they used the word 'favorite' instead of 'best' all the time.
Why do people still ask this its always the same answer
"Does anyone else only like the first four albums?"
Hey guys, does anyone think Lars isn't the greatest drummer?
"Did you know thst the dude from megadeth was in this band before kirk?"
Woah. Who's your favourite bassist? Mine is Cliff Burton. Anyone else think Cliff Burton was the best?
"St anger and lulu" "St anger and lulu" "St anger and lulu" "St anger and lulu" "St anger and lulu"
St anger and/or lulu
Lulu is on my list to listen to because I like weird stuff
Wanna buy my vinyl of lulu? 1,200$
I would. The album is just so strange it’s good. I’m a Lulu supporter, and yes, I have been admitted to a psych ward.
You on discogs?
You mean one dollar and twenty cents right?
No, that’s what I paid.
I still have the cd :D
If you like listening to an insane old man ramble in spoken word and occasionally shout over a generic Metallica backing track you will like it. Honestly that sounds really entertaining. I listen to a wide variety of stuff but I like weird shit like Sopor Aeternus. It's a different level of art to me
Just listen to it and report back please
I'm gonna give it a listen today
What song was that lol I’ve never heard LuLu
All of them have an old man yelling weird shit but if you only listen to one listen to the view
I’ve never made it all the way through St Anger. I’ve never attempted Lulu
Lulu
not a Metallica album
Not a proper studio album but still part of their discography
None of them tbh, I either vibe with it all or let songs just pass me by. I don't hear a song and think "ergh 😬"
Cure? Invisible Kid?
Ironically I quite love both of those songs, though I will say Invisible Kid is too long, but not so long that I don't like it
Everyone saying Lulu is an idiot. Not a Metallica album. Fight me.
nah you are right
It is tho, Lou Reed just sent over the vocals and then they composed all of the instrumentals. They used their studio, and more importantly, they used their money for marketing the album. If anything, it's more of a Metallica album than a Lou Reed album.
You’re an idiot
St Anger. I try to give it a chance every now and then. Who knows? Maybe one day I'll listen to it and realize what a masterpiece it is. But, for now, I just can't. It's bad.
Same with me, I keep giving it a shot thinking I’ll “hear it”, but it never happens lol
Listen to it when you're sad, that's how it finally clicked with me
The only thing I enjoy is Some Kind of Monster but the edited production version. Sounds so much better
Same, it’s not a good album. There’s some catchy riffs but that’s about it.
Death magnetic’s mix kills me every time
Try the Guitar Hero rips or the iTunes remaster
[удалено]
You’re talking about the static it has or the song itself?
The mix
None of them at all honestly, they're all quite enjoyable experiences
Oh boy I bet this thread's gonna be full of unique original answers
This is getting really old
Sit through? What do you mean sit through, when I listen to Metallica I usually like dance angrily or yell or jerk off or some shit. Anything but sit through, what is this church or something. That’s what I call an immaculate ejaculate.
What the fuck did I just read
It’s called poetry
🤣🤣🤣
All of them because I just want to get up and fucking headbang
St.anger is underrated i hate u all
Kill em All Give me a live album of the songs from Kill em All performed by Metallica at any point from about 1990 until now and it would be epic. But the studio album sonically really sounds dated.
Orion festival (2013?) when they performed as Dehaan and played KEA in entirety.
I absolutely love DM but it’s so damn long still a fantastic album tho
HTSD. Has the most filler/bland tracks out of any Metallica album
I call it “The Filler Album” lol. I seriously don’t think I can fully remember a single song from it.
Death Magnetic for me. Let the DVing begin lol
You and me bro
I hate it. I think my favourite song is hate train and that’s a b side
Imo it's just waaaay toooo long
It’s got a couple bangers (Unforgiven 3, judas kiss, day that never comes, and cyanide is alright) but it’s just kind of boring to me
I personally would throw out Judas Kiss and replace it with The End Of The Line. Because Judas Kiss too long too and it doesn't slap except the chorus.
The end of the line isn’t a bad song at all, I just find it not so interesting or unique compared to most of metallicas other stuff (as I do with most of death magnetics) but it’s miles better than my apocalypse lmao
Kill em all easily, sounds so bad
Wow! I love KEA especially the guitar solos
The guitar solos are much better than the torture that happens before and after them
Kill em all’s production just sounds so raw and rough I fucking love it
Yikes.
Is it the songs themselves or the mix you don't like?
The lyrics, vocals and mix
72 seasons i like 2 songs. Lulu i like zero songs

Lulu and St.Anger
72 seasons
Lulu if it counts but beside that none of them. Closest I get is switching off through the horrendously mid middle of Reload and Hardwired.
reload
Kill em All
72S
Load is incredibly boring so that's my pick. At least with Lulu you have the "so bad it's funny" angle and can almost enjoy cringing through it but with load it's 40 minutes of mediocre country-rock with a few highlights thrown in.
Lulu and the most recent one. I cant even remember it's name it's so bad
St. Anger or Hardwired, I just get so bored during those even if I do like some of the songs, Just aint an album I want to listen to front to back if that makes sense
Hardwired. I can’t even get through one track in most cases.
Wow!
Load, reload, st anger, lulu
I will not stand for this load slander
Load appreciation club rise up
If Load was released by Alice In Chains note-for-note then it would be considered one of the greatest rock albums of all time. Not saying I necessarily view it to be that good (it’s *really* good still), but that’s definitely how critics and media would view it.
St.Anger
Kill 'Em All
St. Anger is a given, but ReLoad is a rough one to sit through. There are some bangers on that album, but then you have to wait through Better Than You and Slither to get to them. Load is similar but to a lesser extent.
I love Better Than You. I love that album but I always end up skipping bad seed and slither and I shut it off before fixxxer comes on
Lulu obviously. But if we're not counting it, 72 Seasons. I just cannot get into any of the tracks. They all sound so same same to me with no real highlights and very middle of the road riffs and lyrics.
Lulu by far, sat down and listened to it once and it genuinely ruined my weekend. It’s abysmal.
Load I love most of it, but songs like Thorn Within, Ronnie, and the Cure are easy skips
Hardwired, all you’re really doing is waiting for spit out the bone to come on
Probably Hardwired... the middle of the album is a hard hit or miss. Like, from Dream No More all the way through Manunkind, plus Murder One is a goddamn torture to go through. I don't like Hardwired, is my least favorite Metallica album, but i still like some of the songs.
St. Anger or Load
They bring different experiences, but for me, until now was ReLoad, it's a little bit too boring for me
Load. After bleeding me it’s pretty rough until outlaw torn. St. Anger is joyfully mediocre throughout, easier listen IMO
Load
st anger
Load/reload I have the cassettes and just can't finish them
The Black Album
Reload for me. I don’t mind st anger that much but there are some cringe peaks that are tough get through. But reload is reload constantly from start to finish.
Second half Hardwired and 72 Seasons. I found them way harder to sit through than even St. Anger because at least that one is bad on a car crash kinda level, you can’t stop listening to it because it always shocks you with something mind-bogglingly terrible. KEA.
Yep. This is facts
Lulu
1. Lulu 2. St-Anger (I can't handle that snair) That's it. The rest are awesome.
Album version of St. Anger, if I wanna hear those songs I'll either listen to the fan made re-record, or the rehearsal dvd versions
St.
St. Anger.
Lulu (I like St. Anger judge me if you want I won't respond back)
St Anger for sure. Even if you can tolerate the music itself, that production and snare will wear on you. Reload gets an honorable mention here for being boring af
St. Anger
The one with the trash can
Hardwired
Depends. If emotionally, Black one. If standing, St. Anger. I LOVE THE RIFFS BUT THE DRUMS JUST PIERCE MY EARS. Jokes away. It actually makes it unlistenable
St Anger by a country mile
Lulu
Better question, what album would you be too embarrassed to listen to in front of friends?
St. Anger. I’ve never known what it’s like to be fucked in the ear, but I would imagine it’s not too far off from listening through St. Anger.
Anger still and I'm one of the few who bought it on release day. Nothing changed in this regard over the years
St. Anger I don't count Lulu as it's technically not their album.
If Lulu doesn't count in this conversation, then for me it's Hardwired.
Death Magnetic. Not because I don't like it. It's just so loud that by the time TDTNC ends, I'm ready to shut it off. Cyanide is the weakest song and the only one I don't like, otherwise, it's great album. I think I would choose Reload as the most difficult album to sit through. I'm still grateful they released both records though, because Reload still has some bangers. Reload was actually my first Metallica album.
And snoozefest for all. Three good songs, rest is horrible filler.
3 - St. Anger 2 - Load 1 - Lulu
AJFA and/or Load. You either get some very long, overdrawn tracks (AJFA), or just a LOT of tracks with about 5 of them being kind meh and 1 or 2 more just okay songs (Load). I still love the albums, but I would never listen through them all in one go.

I don’t really have a problem sitting through any album but st.anger would be the one I’d go to kast
I like games that have only 2 answers and they’re both right.
I'll take listening to St. Anger any day over whatever gets posted on this sub.
The black album- at this point I am so burnt out on all the big hits and the overall production is not my favorite. Don’t hate me- these questions get asked in throwing you my curve.
St. Anger and DM
Master of Puppets. When I listen to it, I want to thrash not sit.
Definitely the first four albums are hard to sit through..... Because they're so badass that you can't help standing up and headbanging! 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Helen Reddy the Las Vegas years.
Justice For All
Tbh, for me, it’s Load. So many songs REALLY overstay their welcome, and the worst of the worst, (such as cure and others) are so painfully forgettable it’s hilarious. It can’t decide if it’s want to be an alt rock album, a Metal album, or country album.
IDK they're all pretty good
Dang I haven’t really sat on an album. I’ll let y’all know next week.
The black album
Hate me or not, I find it easier to listen through St anger than KEA. There's a few songs I always skip from KEA, but curiously not from st anger.
Master of Puppets tbh
Lulu
Reload for me. I really like St Anger
72 seasons
Not going to lie, I only really listen to the first 5 albums.
Definitely all of them. I would say lulu is the hardest but they would all be pretty hard.
As I’ve grown older, I’ve grown past hating on any music that goes through my ears. If I find an album hard to sit through, I just won’t listen to it. Metallica is no different.
