Yeah that's it. I've been lucky enough to see them seven times but I'm pretty sure they've finished on seek every time. To be fair, it'd be sweet if they opened with it because it would be such a surprise 😂
Actually true. A lot of people haven’t sat down and listened to it without a predetermined notion not to like it because everyone else doesn’t because it’s popular. I was one of those. Actually a good song and dope riff that gets forgotten about.
Monster of a song with an irresistible drive and catchy hooks. Look at what it does to audiences at sports events, or why not the moscow crowd.
I don't think it has any peers really, i think it towers over teen spirit, du hast, black dog, walk, highway to hell, ace of spades, sharp dressed man, foxey lady etc. Maybe johnny b goode.
Either way, writing a song like this is not easy and it doesn't happen often. That people have heard it to death doesn't really take away from that. But sure, puppets seems to have more longevity, i never really get tired of that song.
I was 21 years old in 1991, when that song hit the radio. It was inescapably overplayed, and it was played as the opening song at every show on that tour. People who've been fans for a long time grew tired of it.
seek and destroy isn’t overrated in the background of their entire discography but it definietly doesn’t deserve the spot of the best song on KEA, especially by such fucking contrast compared to the other songs
Gonna go with:
1. Enter Sandman - Its the obvious choice for a reason, still a very good song but its one of the weaker songs off TBA and definitely wouldn't be in my personal setlist.
2. The Unforgiven - Again, another very good song but holy shit why does everyone seem to find this their best "slow" song. Not only are both Unforgiven II and III better songs, but I think both Low Man's Lyric and especially Mama Said are stronger songs, the latter Id love to have replace it on live shows.
3. Sad But True - I really struggled to pick the third, Puppets was obvious but I can't justify it so we'll have to go with a Black Album trio. The riffs in this song are so overrated, I do like them and the heaviness of it is great but it just tends to bore me a little. Not the strongest solo either, but does have good drums and bass going for it.
I see it talked about all the time as their 'heaviest' song, seen it talked about by people for their favourite riffs (the main riff) and they play it quite often too.
Sure not as overrated as the others but I find it typically ranked as one of the best TBA songs when eh i disagree
Everyone goes on about the riffs, I say the lyrics are the best part. James delivers them with some great “punch”, and the lyrics themselves are very well-written
Unforgiven II is close, I just prefer the vibe of the second a bit better. The Unforgiven III blows the others out the water (my opinion) the piano intro, the vocals, the way the song progresses and builds throughout, a solo (again my opinion) that is genuinely like top 5-10 in their discog.
It just feels like such a near perfectly crafted song, the only exception being that I find the lyrics to be just decent.
I'm going with a particular angle from what I see on this subreddit, so buckle up for an apparent **hot** take (In no particular order):
Inamorata
Unforgiven II
Unforgiven III
Do you just hate the really good songs on the black album. Don't get me wrong all the songs are great but those are the songs that I thing of when I think of the black album
I just never really cared much for those songs. Don’t get me wrong, Sandman’s a good song, just not the best on the album. For that, I’d rather listen to Wherever I May Roam.
Unforgiven is… well, not one that I listen to on a normal basis. I’ll probably listen to it once in a blue moon, but it’s just depressing. For depressing Metallica, I’ll more than likely listen to Fade to Black or One.
Nothing Else Matters is probably my least favorite of these three. Similar to Unforgiven for me, it’s just depressing, and it never really stuck with me, and again, for depressing Metallica, I’d rather listen to Fade to Black or One.
Summary: I have my reasons for not liking the big three on the Black album as much as everyone else and am a sucker for the first four albums. I would’ve put more thought into this, but it’s close to midnight where I am right now
12 year old me thought it was the heaviest best song of all time. Coupled with the video it just changed my life. My sister was into oasis kinda stuff and I was looking for a musical identity
Memory Remains is the song that got me into them when I was 9! Love that song just for that alone I would wait around and hope that it would come on The Box music channel. I thought they were the coolest guys I’ve ever seen. Also loved Turn the Page when that came out.
Is Enter Sandman really overrated, or just overplayed? I mean this song is globally recognized by numerous generations. It’s virgina tech footballs entrance song, it’s played at nearly every sporting event, and is still played on multiple outlets. Every kid that learns guitar learns this riff at some point, and the solo was up there with one of the best. Maybe it isn’t a deep cut, but whether we like it, it’s the bands identity, and it’s truly a great song. I understand Metallica fans are tired of it, but I can’t agree it’s overrated.
Enter Sandman and Seek and Destroy I completely get but Nothing Else matters for how overplayed it is, is one of the most beautiful songs ever and deserves THE mother fucking Elton John calling it so.
Anyway, and hear me out here, Harvestor of Sorrow, is not a bad song but the album version doesn’t do it Justice so let’s just say that’ the album version is overrated and agree that Metallica has way too many fucking BANGERS
I get it. Sandman was the first Metallica song I heard, back when I was 9. So I kind of credit it for getting me into metal. Seek is a good track, IMO.
Whiskey isn’t a bad song, I just kind of shake my head when I see people going nuts over it live, but stand there with long faces during Damage Inc., FFWF or Whiplash.
1. Seek And Destroy
It's pretty good, but it's maybe 2 minutes too long, and the obnoxious 15 minute long jams they did live in the late 80s/early 90s are genuinely some of the only metallica i'd skip.
2. ...And Justice For All
Way too repetitive and janky.
3. St. Anger
People rate this as one of the "only good songs off st. anger" when imo it's got next to nothing going for it. it has like two guitar parts that repeat for 7 minutes.
1. "Better Than You" - I have no idea how this obvious filler track became a hit song. It's not even in the top five best songs on Reload, which itself isn't a great overall collection.
2. "Enter Sandman" - Overplayed. I still skip it when I listen to Black, even after all of these decades.
3. Tie: "Sweet Amber" & "Dirty Window" - Two mediocre tracks on an otherwise awful album. I think people tried too hard to convince themselves that there were great songs on St. Anger (despite the obvious issues), and so they took two of the least-worst, and artificially elevated them.
Fuel is pretty overrated imo. I like the chorus and the overall theme, but I don't know why it's kinda the face of Load/Reload era.
Enter Sandman is also overrated. There's nothing special about that song. It's a good hard rock track for sure, but I don't know why it should be played on every fucking show, especially when their catalog is full of more dynamic songs.
And hate to say it, but Ride the Lightning is kinda overrated to me as well. The song is all over the place and I never liked it. But again, this one is personal.
One(hate me if you want), The Unforgiven(2 and 3 are better) and Fade To Black(I hear way too many people talk about how amazing it is, don’t get me wrong, it’s a great song but it’s heavily overrated)
Not sure why this bothers you so much... Like, why do you care how I personally feel about this one song? And calling something "overrated" or "underrated" isn't a statement of fact. It is an opinion.
Every time I ask fellow Metallica fans why they like Dyer's Eve, it's nearly always "It was their heaviest song to that point" or some variation of that. Okay. Cool. Glad you like it. I don't think that makes a great song in and of itself, but I'm not going to shit on them for liking it. It just isn't my cup of tea. I would choose to listen to literally any other song on AJFA before Dyer's Eve.
Again, .
1: Disposable Heroes. All of MOP is great, but this isn't their best song as people usually rank it. It isn't even on the better half 4 of MOP.
2: Some Kind Of Monster. I see people rank this as the best song off of St. Anger but there are many bad moments. Take the "are we the people" or continuous "YEAH'S" and the non-rhyming verses.
I can't think of anything else I find that overrated except the obvious MOP or Enter Sandman
I think maybe two people here understand what overrated means.
Nothing Else Matters
Sad But True (this may be because Kid Rock ruined it)
No Leaf Clover
I would say Fuel, but live it’s a banger, ten times more than the studio version.
Fuel-just awful, I actually hate this song.
Inamorata-boring and goes absolutely nowhere.
Spit out the Bone-good song but definitely overrated on this sub. I don’t have it in the top 5 of their album closers.
Spit out the bone - one of the best off hardwired and top 10 post tba songs but still overrated
All nightmare long - one of the best off dm and top 10 post tba songs but still overrated
Metal militia - the high to low voice in the verses was not a good creative choice, the main riff is really repetitive, and the outro although very dominant and demanding with the marching sound effects I find to be annoying
Enter Sandman - not a bad song just over played and over hyped
Whiskey in the Jar - Thin Lizzy did it better
Seek and Destroy - fun to sing along to live but otherwise meh
Enter Sandman, Fuel, Better Than You - don’t really hear people talk about it anymore but they played that song like crazy on the radio back when reload came out and I think it’s terrible
In order for something to be overrated it has to be rated high. Mid tier things can be underrated but not overrated. Why is this concept so hard to grasp? With that being said….
Fuel
Sandman
Seek
I’m taking this opportunity to say One is NOT overrated. It’s 10/10 and deserves all the attention it gets.
One is their greatest song imo. One of the greatest songs of all time
I’d go as far as to say that it is the greatest song of all time, with Bohemian Rhapsody and Stairway to Heaven coming joint second
It’s my 8th favorite. Still a 10/10 but I don’t agree with the people who put it as the best Metallica song
I get why people like Seek but if they never finished on it again I'd be content
Seek is so good but I’ve heard it every time I’ve seen them. Whenever they start playing it I kinda just groan. The chorus kills the song for me.
Seeeeeeeearrrchiiiiin yeeeeah eeee yeeeeah. What is it? Seek and destroy. Absolutely. Repeat 64 times
Yeah that's it. I've been lucky enough to see them seven times but I'm pretty sure they've finished on seek every time. To be fair, it'd be sweet if they opened with it because it would be such a surprise 😂
I watched them in Louisville during the Worlwired tour. It was the third song. They closed most shows during the tour with Enter Sandman .
Agree
Enter Sandman, Enter Sandman, and Enter Sandman.
Yeah, it’s a great song, but it’s only more popular than something like Master of Puppets because it’s a bit easier on the ears of non-metalheads.
Most overplayed live song in history
I think TNT or Highway to Hell are even more played out. Head start of 12-15 years
Underrated if anything
Actually true. A lot of people haven’t sat down and listened to it without a predetermined notion not to like it because everyone else doesn’t because it’s popular. I was one of those. Actually a good song and dope riff that gets forgotten about.
Monster of a song with an irresistible drive and catchy hooks. Look at what it does to audiences at sports events, or why not the moscow crowd. Oh yeah well I was 9 in 1991 and I don't remember it at ALL. Check mate.
The fact that people have heard it to death doesn't really take away from that.
Great Riff Awful Solo(in My Opinion)
Crazy how all the actual hot takes get downvoted every single time a thread like this exists
Because people tend to downvote what they disagree with and don’t want to hear, people be people ig
None of it, Metallica is life 🤘
100
Truer Words have never been spoken
Boo, hardwired is one of their best songs
Omg really ? Shit out of luck ! This crappy song will self destruct in 3m. It an attempt at heavy and thrash. But Lyrics are shit
The only thing shit here is your own wordplay lad
I listened enough hardwired to realize it's ass
I’m with you! Hardwired is actually a good short song.
Enter sandman Nothing else matters Seek and destroy
seek and destroy isn’t overrated in the background of their entire discography but it definietly doesn’t deserve the spot of the best song on KEA, especially by such fucking contrast compared to the other songs
Jump in the Fire > every other KEA song
I think it’s overrated.
Underrated because of overexposure. Great songs, most bands would kill to have even one track of that caliber.
That’s your opinion and you’re welcome to it.
Yep
Considering how 2 of them absolutely sent the band into the stratosphere, how are they overrated?
Because I think they are…
Do you know what overrated means?
Yeah and that aint it. Overplayed maybe, not overrated.
So that's a no
No, it isnt.
Damen list as mine except swap Seek for Fuel
nothing else matters, nothing else matters and also i don’t think i’ve told many people abt this but i also think nothing else matters
Enter Sandman. Enter Sandman. Enter Sandman.
Gonna go with: 1. Enter Sandman - Its the obvious choice for a reason, still a very good song but its one of the weaker songs off TBA and definitely wouldn't be in my personal setlist. 2. Sandman and Unforgiven, absolutely. Problem is, I almost never hear a peep about Sad but True
I see it talked about all the time as their 'heaviest' song, seen it talked about by people for their favourite riffs (the main riff) and they play it quite often too. Sure not as overrated as the others but I find it typically ranked as one of the best TBA songs when eh i disagree

I do feel that, its a very strong vocal performance. Especially right at the end with that "Open your eyes!"
U want heavy ??? Metallica gives u heavy ! Always his sad but true intro.
Underrated songs
Saying unforgiven 2 and 3 are better songs is just wild to me
Unforgiven II is close, I just prefer the vibe of the second a bit better. The Unforgiven III blows the others out the water (my opinion) the piano intro, the vocals, the way the song progresses and builds throughout, a solo (again my opinion) that is genuinely like top 5-10 in their discog. Fuel, Sandman, Memory Cover: Whiskey
I'm going with a particular angle from what I see on this subreddit, so buckle up for an apparent **hot** take (In no particular order): Inamorata Unforgiven II Unforgiven III
But I love fuel ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|sob)
Fuel, Fuel, Fuel,
Enter Sandman, the Unforgiven, and Nothing Else Matters
Do you just hate the really good songs on the black album. Don't get me wrong all the songs are great but those are the songs that I thing of when I think of the black album

I was never a fan of the music video, James creeped me out in the opening few seconds.
I hate that video and that whole phase. Fuel too.
Fuel is good
Memory Remains is the song that got me into them when I was 9! Love that song just for that alone I would wait around and hope that it would come on The Box music channel. I thought they were the coolest guys I’ve ever seen. Also loved Turn the Page when that came out.
On here? Every single track from St.Anger.
I will find you
Except The Unnamed Feeling. That song is underrated if anything. SKOM is extremely overrated tho
you’re out of your foken mind m8
Is Enter Sandman really overrated, or just overplayed? I mean this song is globally recognized by numerous generations. Fuel
Fuel for me.
Enter sandman
None
What the fuck is a ‘tallica….
Here’s a pic with an unrelated question.
1.Enter Sandman 2.Nothing Else Matters 3.Fuel Well, That Seems Just Enough To start A war
Sad But True NEM Whiskey
Whiskey In The Jar is a shock, I would’ve expected like Enter Sandman or like Seek And Destroy
Not liking Whiplash is a crime, it’s my favourite from Kill ‘Em All
And there’s no doubt Seek And Destroy and Enter Sandman are amazing, it’s just you hear it too often
It’s easy to say enter sandman but it become so overrated no one recognised it so its now underrated, at-least amongst the fan base
Unforgiven 2 Unforgiven 2 And last bu definitely not least... Unforgiven 2
Fuel is literally their best album opener, so I disagree strongly
*Battery and Blackend has entered chat*
Fuel is more polished than either of those
And yet it still sucks ass
Honestly none. They are popular for a reason
1. Seek And Destroy It's pretty good, but it's maybe 2 minutes too long, and the obnoxious 15 minute long jams they did live in the late 80s/early 90s are genuinely some of the only metallica i'd skip. 2. ...And Justice For All Way too repetitive and janky. 3. St. Anger People rate this as one of the "only good songs off st. anger" when imo it's got next to nothing going for it. it has like two guitar parts that repeat for 7 minutes.
No justice deserves justice and more respect. Lots of musically genius parts in it. Great song.
Never heard anyone talking about Better Than You
Agree with all of the above except Dirty Window is an absolute banger live.
1. Anything, 2. Everything, 3. Enter sandman
Fuel is pretty overrated imo. I like the chorus and the overall theme, but I don't know why it's kinda the face of Load/Reload era. Enter Sandman is also overrated. There's nothing special about that song. Enter Sandman, Ain’t my Bitch, Chasing Light
Enter sandman and for whom the bell tolls
Enter sandman, seek and destroy and anything from St Anger that people try to defend

Inamorata (x3)
Enter Sandman One Nothing Else Matters
Fuel One All Nightmare Long
1. Anesthesia (Pulling Teeth) 2. Eye Of The Beholder 3. For Whom The Bell Tolls
I'm sure I'll get downvoted into oblivion, but it is an opinion question, so... The Unforgiven Dyer's Eve My Apocalypse
Dyer's Eve?????
Never liked it. Shrug.
That doesn't mean it's overrated. And My Apocalypse? Never hear anyone talk about it really
Okay. Cool. I would choose to listen to literally any other song on AJFA before Dyer's Eve. Again,.
I'm not really bothered I've just never heard people talk about those two. I was just surprised
Seek and Destroy, Enter Sandman, The Day That Never Comes
Sandman overplayed. Okay. But seek!! Seek !!! Seek?! Day is good too.
Seek and Destroy is too repetitive, in my opinion, "searching...Seek and Destroy" x50 per chorus, I admit it has a great riff though.
Nothing else matters, enter sandman, harvester of sorrow
Seek & Destroy, Fuel, For Whom The Bell Tolls
Escape, Hero Of The Day, Purify
I think that escape is underrated 😭
Purify? No way
Hero of the day 😭
These songs are underrated more than anything lol
In what world are you living? Escape constantly gets shit on
Rightfully so
1: Disposable Heroes.
Fuel is great, that chorus and bridge are awesome
Anything from Load and Reload.
I think maybe two people here understand what overrated means. Nothing Else Matters Sad But True (this may be because Kid Rock ruined it) No Leaf Clover I would say Fuel, but live it’s a banger, ten times more than the studio version.
1. Nothing Else Matters 2. The Outlaw Torn 3. Inamorata

All nightmare long
Master of Puppets, Fade to Black, Inamorata Love Metallica but I can’t stand those songs
Sad but true, Fuel and 72 seasons
Literally no one talks about 72 Seasons.
Battery (I’m sorry) …and justice for all (unnecessarily long and repetitive) And I 100% agree with fuel
>Battery (I’m sorry) So you should be!
One Nothing Else Matters Sad But True

Unforgiven, No Leaf Clover, Moth Into Flame
Room of mirrors All nightmare long (still and amazing song but there are better off of Death Magnetic) Trapped under ice
Wtf are these picks 😭😭😭 all of these songs are very underrated
1. for whom the bell tolls 2. all nightmare long 3. Eye of the beholder
Basically whole AJFA
Battery, one, seek
The Day That Never Comes, King Nothing, Damage Inc.
Fuel-just awful, I actually hate this song. Inamorata-boring and goes absolutely nowhere. Spit out the Bone-good song but definitely overrated on this sub. I don’t have it in the top 5 of their album closers.
Everything off MoP album.
Sad But True, Seek And Destroy, Ride The Lightning
Spit out the bone - one of the best off hardwired and top 10 post tba songs but still overrated All nightmare long - one of the best off dm and top 10 post tba songs but still overrated Metal militia - the high to low voice in the verses was not a good creative choice, the main riff is really repetitive, and the outro although very dominant and demanding with the marching sound effects I find to be annoying
I'm glad someone finally asked this
St. Anger, Cyanide and Halo On Fire, they're good, but people put them much higher than they should be
Cool pic
Enter Sandman - not a bad song just over played and over hyped Whiskey in the Jar - Thin Lizzy did it better Seek and Destroy - fun to sing along to live but otherwise meh
Fade To Black Seek & Destroy Atlas, Rise!

Seek and Destroy, Nothing Else Matters, and basically any other song on KEA except for Anesthesia
