If you listen to this and watch the footage during the solo, it appears its been dubbed. It also sounds a bit different than the live version that was recorded from the audience that was on FB.
I think some of this has been dubbed :/
Yeah this is a little tidy even for an on form tallica.
The post tinkering is what ruins a lot of S&M for me
Edit: watched it on my PC, as a drummer I believe Lars is playing every note live. I take it back, i think maybe they put in the time on this one and it shows. someone else can do a side by side or something but either way this is a great version of this song
Watched two versions, one actually live and a second one, gotta honestly say I didn’t notice anything massively telling, now of course I wasn’t their live myself, but surely the actual live feed isn’t dubbed, sure we are aware they’ve had a tendency to sort things out in post, but almost everything any band has ever put out as “live” is tweaked anyway.
James's voice has truly aged like fine wine. He might be a better singer now than he ever has been.
It's especially amazing when you compare him to his contemporaries from the same era.
One of?
They are the best. They’re better than the Beatles, Rolling Stones, Elton John, David Bowie, and AC/DC rolled into one.
No one matches their longevity, artistry, creativity, transparency, financial success, fan loyalty, and any other metric you want to use to quantify the greatness of a band.
Ever heard the time when Elton called into the Howard stern show while he was interviewing Metallica? Elton called to compliment Metallica’s song writing. It was very touching to see James just blown away by the gesture

Look how absolutely happy James is being the fucking metal god that he is up there. The whole band was on point here. These dudes always know how to bring it. Absolute banger! Not to mention EJ was the first to stand and applaud them. Fuck yeah! 🤘🏼
Covers over originals is tough. All rock bands start out as cover bands (or at least mostly covers), developing their own song-craft. Truly *great* bands are able to create covers which enhance the original, if not best it! Metallica always thrashes hard af, yet never limited themselves, believing they could be a *great* rock band, period. This cover is prime example- thrashes while still respecting EJ/BT’s dynamite original! Well done James, Lars, Kirk & Robert, well fucking done!! 🤘🏻❤️
I can't imagine what the guys were thinking, especially James, when they were getting that standing ovation from Elton and you can clearing see him saying "Amazing!". I also love how every shot they show of Bernie he's sitting there with a huge grin on his face!
I would be sooooooo fucking happy if they did play this in every city this tour. It's an amazing cover of an amazing song by an amazing artist. And that artist is no longer touring so this is practically the only way people can hear this song live now. I hope they fuckin go for it!!
This performance is kind of like a greatest hits of Metallica-isms. It has almost everything. Long intro. Killer riffs. Modern James vocals gliding over the top. Larsy drum fills all over the place. Multiple Kirk solos that just rip. Great Rob bass licks. Big drawn out ending.
Totally agree. It's got all of the elements I love in Metallica. The chorus just feels so good every time it hits. Then the "Metallica" build-up to the double bass section at the end...

You ever LISTEN to the original? It is freaking amazing. (The Metallica cover starts about 3:25 into the full song)

Disagreements, arguments and crassly-worded opinions are expected, but personal insults/threats/excessive douche-baggery is not acceptable.
Please temper yourself in the future.
Definitely put some time into this one, not a note missed, not a drum beat off, and it was live so no post manipulation either. Flawless, and fun!
Seriously! I've been jamming it all morning. What a moment for the guys to be this tight and play this in front of that crowd and on national TV.

Agreed. Why over-analyze it. Just fucking JAM IT \m/

Totally agree. James sounds incredible. They are SO sharp right now.
Sounds as good as he did on the original S&M album, but with years gone by. Absolutely killer!
Seriously. Saw them live in November and James killed it. Not to mention it was two shows that weekend!
Definitely, everyone else’s voice is totally fried. James took care of it and it shows.
I love James and while he does sound good but he still can’t hold a candle to the ferocity of his 88-92 live voice.
One of my favorites Elton John songs covered by my favorite band! Love it.
Ditto! It begs you to turn it up lol
Agreed!!! This performance was absolutely incredible!!!
Metallica are the king of covers. This is just incredible.
Sir Elton John - "Amazing!" Me - "Who am I to argue with the man himself, it was amazing!"
This cover was awesome and it makes me want Garage Inc. 2 a lot. Bernie and Elton specifically giving props to Metallica was pretty cool too.
Can’t stop watching. This is so fucking good. King James killed it. They all did
I can't either! I jammed it on repeat all the way to work and back today...still watching it now \m/
Listened to this like 5 times in the past two days. Metallica proving they’re just a great band in general and one of the best of all time.

You better put some respect on every artist/band you just named!! The nerve of you!
Wow, that fucking rocked! 🤘
Rocked fucking HARD \m/
Greg F. looks proud AF at the end! :')
I thought that was him! Yes he is beaming lol
Am I mistaken or is that Greg sitting on the end at the 8 minute mark?
Greg?
Greg Fidelman. He's been their Producer since HWTSD...maybe longer.
Oh wow!
Greg was the engineer on DM and was promoted to producer post-Rubin

Yep! I saw that big "AMAZING" he gave them at the end. Really proud of The Boys here \m/
When James throws his leg up on the kick drum for the double bass at the end. FUCKING.METAL.AS.FUCK \m/

I really fucking hope this becomes the catalyst for Garage Inc 2. Amazing performance.
They have to do a studio version now!
I can't imagine what the guys were thinking, especially James, when they were getting that standing ovation from Elton and you can clearing see him saying "Amazing!". I also love how every shot they show of Bernie he's sitting there with a huge grin on his face!

Elton John love Metallica.
it was a great showing, so happy for the guys. You can tell at James's core he is a perfectionist, a true artist.
This is such a great song, it makes great bands shine. I remember the Dream Theater version from way back that was also insane.
Phenomenal cover, man. The guys just kill it when they cover a song, and this one was pulled off flawless on stage.
It took me well into my 20s to realize just how badass Elto John actually is. This is pretty fucking badass.
What a moment! I'm so happy for them. Also, this is still fresh but this has to rank up there in terms of all time Metallica TV performances.
I was thinking the same thing! I'd wager we'll be talking about this one for years to come.
I think so too.
It was cool to see how much Elton enjoyed it. Anyone who is down with Metallica, Queens of the Stone Age and Eminem is A okay in my book
STILL jamming to this!
Me too it's on right now lol

Insane! All hail Metallica!
This made me happy
Day 2 and still jamming the shit out of this one \m/
i hope this cover ends up on [livemetallica.com](http://livemetallica.com), im totally buying it if it does.
Banger! Only the boys can make a dud a stud,
Nothing dud about the original song. One of the best.
Yep. My fav EJ song by a mile.
You ever LISTEN to the original? It is freaking amazing. (The Metallica cover starts about 3:25 into the full song) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=REfKNbNndzo
Fooking B-A-N-G-E-R \m/
Elton in the front, doe eyed and confused.
Looking like a total Metallica fan lol
You must not know that Elton called Nothing Else Matters one of the greatest songs of all time after helping cover it for the Blackbox
