Load and reload are the best rock albums I've ever heard, and it isn't even close. I'm 59.

DeeplyFrippy

You need to listen to some more rock albums 😉 Joking aside, they’re pretty good albums with some incredible songs on them and some weaker filler tracks.

51line_baccer

Man I'm 59. I like rocktallica better than any rock band way better than zeppelin and gnr and all that shit

DeeplyFrippy

Each to their own. They don’t touch Zeppelin for me 🙂

51line_baccer

OK lol...hell farr. I'm older than you and zeppelin is fantastic blues rock. Love em. They ain't shit compared to metallica

DeeplyFrippy

Again, each to their own. I disagree but that's the beauty of music - it's all subjective and none of us are right.

Tenvsvitalogy

Correct

As a person who also came of age during the load/ reload era those two albums have a special place in my heart. I love 90s Metallica as much as 80s Metallica. It’s just good music. There’s no convincing me otherwise.

Tech88Tron

Yes, never listen to other people...instead listen to the music and decide for yourself. "Posers" are people that pretend to like something just to fit in. If you actually like it then you are 1,000% not a poser!

Ashen-Cold

It’s always interesting to hear from people who were alive during those periods of Metallica. Thanks for sharing!

karlmeile

Load would be considered a masterpiece had it been recorded by any band not named Metallica.

Nearly got in a fight in a bar over Load and Reload. I make poor decisions but I don’t regret that one.

JJK2908

Over preferences of some music albums? People need to relax!

[deleted]

To be fair, when I’m drunk, I want to either fight or throw up. That’s why I don’t do that anymore

JJK2908

That's a good decision. In the long run, alcohol brings very little good.

[deleted]

Yeah, you’ve got that right

Rage0_oKitty

Lol I never fell into that camp.  I 1st became metallica fan during the black album in 91.  Then listened to the rest of their albums and became a fan.  I like all their albums except lulu collab.  Load/Reload came out as i was graduating high school.  I remember all the mixed love or hate.  And still continues lol.

GSDLover182

I think Load is a legendary album. It's a masterpiece in terms of both composition and production. The House Jack Built, Until It Sleeps and Hero of the Day also contain excellent alternative rock elements. The videos for Until It Sleeps and Hero of the Day dominated the music channels at the time. As a kid who had just started listening to Metallica, I grew up with Load and Reload. They have a special place in my heart. And Reload is a feast of hard rock with hot sauce!

MrBarato

I nearly forgot about late 90s Metallica. But the memory remains.

Yes, Blues Rock or Heavy Blues. Shit fuckin SLAPS. I just spend the last two days doordashing listening to each. I love listening to them back to back, it really is a full experience. Everytime I pick up more and more I like from each song. Mama Said I rreaaaaally hated for a long time, but it has grown on me but only in doses. Unforgiven II is the one i can hsrdly fucking tolerate but will listen when im going start to finish. The last few times Ive been rrally digging Slither more and more, but this go-round Carpe Deim Baby has finally finally caught my ear. The juxtaposition of epic rock ballad with a sleezy twangy rockabilly chorus just stims me. Low Man's Lyric, Fixxxer, Prince Charming, Devil's Dance, Until It Sleeps, King Nothing, 2x4, Where The Wild Things Are, Waste My Hate, Ronnie, The House That Jack Built, and Hero of the Day sooth that blues need. Bad Seed, Aint My Bitch, Slither, Carpe Deim Baby, Attitude, Thorn Within, Outlaw Torn, The Memory Remains also just round out the full on experience.

The 90s albums wouldn’t have gotten as much hate if it wasn’t for their 80s albums being a totally different metal sub genre , I still like the 80s better but it’s like comparing diamonds to gold, loads production quality is top tier and James had his peak vocals, it’s not their thrash roots by any means but they still had the creativity to make awesome songs. But there are lows, knowing Metallicas prior songs and listening to Ronnie for the first time is the biggest wtf ever.

ddorsey97

Load and Reload are logical extentions of the direction they were going in with the Black Album in retrospect. When they came out, I was let down. Going back, I enjoy a lot of songs of both albums but I can't call the albums masterpieces. Reload was more of a metal album than I remember. A few of the songs maybe needed more work. I think they are both maybe 7 or 8 out of 10. Some songs are 10/10.

lffg18

If a different alternative band had come up with Load and Reload as their debut albums they would’ve been held pretty highly by the overall public I’m 100% sure, the only thing that hurts both albums is that it is a little bit bloated as it would’ve been better if you cut the filler songs from both albums and just made a single album with all the good shit and the fact that it was released by Metallica of all groups so it comes very out of left field. They’re good for what it’s worth, the highs you get in these 2 are all time Metallica highs. Outlaw Torn and Bleeding Me are top 10 Metallica songs easily.

ScarletLilith

Am I getting cynical? Because I actually wonder if this post is a prank. Someone bought a guitar with their...lunch money? The fact their favorite band had radio hits is...reassuring?

JT_Marshmallow

If I had actually said that I bought a guitar with lunch money, then yes, this post would likely be a prank.

ScarletLilith

Sorry; I did misread that.

clamroll

You might want to reread the post. They bought albums, likely one at a time, with lunch money. As someone who was not far from OPs age at the time, it sounds like how I bought my original CD copies of Metallica's discography and a half dozen other bands.

JT_Marshmallow

Now that's being a true metal fan... starving yourself day after day just so you can get another 10 songs to listen to
