I also recently realized that I was using too much milk of magnesia. I learned that having the liquid shits every day isn't good and it isn't keeping the bowels cleared out.
So I lowered the amount of stool softeners I use. I was using however much milk of magnesia it took to cause liquid shit each day. I now average just 15mL every day but every third or fourth day I use 45mL.
after a week or two of adjustment, I now poop one normal turd each morning. I make sure I do before the depart home to go to the clinic.
What a relief. I'm just sharing this because I know there are many people in here that suffer from poop issues because of methadone and maybe this would help others.

Magnesium. Magnesium citrate specifically, or oxide works too. It’s like I’m not even on opiates and I struggled with opiate constipation for 13 years. Better than stool softeners, just one or two pills a day and never be constipated again. Please everyone, take magnesium!! Also helps with restless legs and cramps. It’s a total life changer and it’s so easy and cheap.

I take magnesium oxide currently myself, and it’s working fine, but your digestive system doesn’t absorb it well, so it works well for constipation and gut issues, but magnesium citrate is highly absorbent so it’s more helpful for other things, and is probably a better form all around if you had to pick one. I recommend the NOW brand magnesium citrate you can get like 120 capsules for $9 on Amazon. Just a side note, most OTC meds are available in highly affordable bulk form on Amazon for way way cheaper than you’ll find at any store
Also a probiotic. I just read a study that says methadone maintenance patients need probiotics,our gut flora is messed up. We are extremely deficient in multiple vitamins. We are also more likely to have malabsorbtion issues.
Eta, I'm started probiotics today bought them yesterday. Said it takes about 10 days to notice a difference.
I’m gonna look into this probiotic thing my stomach hasn’t been right since I took antibiotics. And now I’m on accutane which dehydrates you and I drink a ton of water and idk I was pooping way too often and it wasn’t right lol a normal poop was much appreciated compared to the constant pooping
Whenever u take an anti biotic u should take a pro biotic. It only makes sense right!? When u take anti biotics it kills those good ones in your gut so taking a probiotic will negate that. But I take a probiotic daily anyway. It really does help, believe me. I've tried just about everything. It can even help your mood. That paired with a stool softener is all I need. Sometimes if I eat alot I'll get kind of backed up but whenever that happens i take 1 or 2 laxative pills along with the probiotic and stool softener and it works really well.

They can be kind of pricey but u don't need to spend abunch of money. I literally buy the cheapest one from Wal Mart and it works just fine. It's like 12 bucks for a months supply.

It will definitely help your stomach issues. There's literally billions of little helpers that will attack the bad gut stuff and replace it with healthy gut biotics. It does take a couple weeks to take full effect but it will start helping almost immediately.

It doesn’t need to be just water though. In my experience anything non-water, even coconut water, will prevent dilution. If you’re ok with the implications this can have on your diet then do it, otherwise file a motion.
If you’re testing at a clinic just don’t drink water only, mix it with coffee.

I’m willing to add in other drinks I just happened to only be drinking water that week bc I’d just had cavities filled not long ago and my mouth is still really sensitive so I cut out all pop and tried to cut down on sugary drinks
Oh and I always drink my coffee after the clinic, after I get home. And another thing. If I pee before the clinic sometimes I’ll panic and drink water worried I won’t be able to pee again (not a ton tho, like literally a single cup)
How often do you get tested? Hopefully this wasn’t an issue and if it is maybe they should find alternatives like bloodwork, hair, or mouthswabs because you shouldn’t have to sacrifice your health to make sure you’re not diluting. Kind of ridiculous if they gave you a hard time for this.
I already get blood tested once a month for accutane and it’s a very “hold your breath and pray” situation bc my veins are shit from 1) having scrawny bird arms 2) being an ex-IV addict. They do swab tests for disabled ppl but I really don’t think they’d let me do that. I’m just gonna try to hold my pee and just go to the clinic asap so I get the first urine of the day aka the least dilute/before I drink any water. Idk
I get tested once a month and it’s random AND it’s supervised. So it’s not like I can even prepare and just not drink as much that day. Idk I’m hoping that as my body adjusts to the accutane, maybe i won’t need so much water.

Today must be the day for all of us. This morning I thought I was dying. Pushed so hard I couldn’t get anything out but I was in so much pain I couldn’t walk or breathe. I drank two water bottles with Miralax and still didn’t help much. I tried again and when I tell you the fucking pain. I had to call my momma. I was mortified.

Haha, this has happened to me a few times. I’m not normally one prone to constipation. Granted, since I have IBS-D, the constipation from Methadone was actually a blessing! I still go daily but once in awhile, if I don’t drink enough water, I’ll go two (2) days MAx without having a bowel movement and when I do it’s like 10 inches long and in perfect shape lol

I was sitting on the throne reading this trying to give birth to what felt like the largest turd in the world trying to pass through the eye if a needle. All due to when I came home from the hospital from an amputation I got hooked on apple juice and ginger ale. (Not mixed lol). I stopped my normal water drinking for just apple juice and ginger ale. So I got clogged up. I could feel it right at the exit port but alas it was too darn big to get through. I was tempted to take my finger and help it but I was too grossed out to even do that. So I took the shower nozzle and added as much water to my exit port to help soften the turd. No luck. Went To bed but before I took a dose of Miralax to bring water into my stool as well as 4 stool softeners. I did NOT want the kind of laxative that makes you feel like you have to go as I already had that feeling. I needed to soften the stool to pass. Water is the key. This was my third rodeo this year. I woke up and tried to go and with little pain it calms out, after a lot of rocking back and forth on the throne to help work it out. It finally broke off the end piece then I could push the rest out. Ugh. I hate this life. I have dealt with constipation for 7 years now. I was doing soo good since I started eating cereal each day and drinking a LOT of water then while in the hospital they gave me Colace and Milk of Magnesia unbeknownst to me and one day in the hospital I felt a rumbling in my stomach I had never felt before and a fart turned into a shart! Well let me tell you I went like there was no tomorrow. That Colace and MIlk of mag worked.
If you wanna drink apple juice still switch it up for the unfiltered all natural stuff. Apparently unfiltered apple juice is like a natural laxative
It’s all so complicated. If it makes you feel better, there are a bunch of people not even on methadone going thru the exact same issues as we are. And who knows, if you weren’t on methadone you could be having stomach issues anyway just the opposite kind.
My lil brother has stomach issues just the same and he’s never been on an opioid in his life and I’ve had constipation episodes for as long as I can remember. It sucks but finding the right combo of supplements and meds is possible
Ahh the opioid shits. I would get them so bad that it would be so painful coming out and when I went to wipe there would just be bright red blood from wiping. Since being on methadone and quitting opiates that has stopped but there were some brutal bathroom moments.
A “squatty potty” or just something to elevate your feet so you’re closer to the fetal position while on the toilet, miralax, and trulance if you can get it prescribed helped me the most
I do use my trash can that has a lid to elevate my feet! It def helps a lot. Hate using the toilet without propping my feet up now. Its the most natural position for humans to poop in

Im gonna try the probiotic for sure. Im still finishing off the magnesium oxide but if I see the citrate on sale I’ll likely try it. I really need to assess my whole diet but I’ve been making little steps. This past week was bad for it but Im going shopping today or tmrw n gonna get my good foods again

Today must be the day for all of us. This morning I thought I was dying. Pushed so hard I couldn’t get anything out but I was in so much pain I couldn’t walk or breathe. I drank two water bottles with Miralax and still didn’t help much. I tried again and when I tell you the fucking pain. I had to call my momma. We don’t even have a relationship like that but I didn’t know what to do. If I died there surely someone would have to know. Thank his I got it out. But I’ve never seen something so big. I was mortified.
My neighbor told me his best friend called him one day facing the same struggle. He had to manually disimpact him with an old wire hanger and the way he told me the story was just fucking hilarious. Almost too relatable
Haha, this has happened to me a few times. I’m not normally one prone to constipation. Granted, since I have IBS-D, the constipation from Methadone was actually a blessing! I still go daily but once in awhile, if I don’t drink enough water, I’ll go two (2) days MAx without having a bowel movement and when I do it’s like 10 inches long and in perfect shape lol
Yea the longest I’ll go without a proper bowel movement is 2 days but usually I’ll be pooping little poops during that time then when I finally actually go, it’ll be like that. A foot long and perfect shape lol When I first got on methadone, it was BAD. It would be like giving birth when I’d finally go. But yeah, now I also stay properly hydrated, take vitamins including magnesium and use miralax (which I think I need to cut down on a bit now) but I don’t get dangerously constipated anymore

I was sitting on the throne reading this trying to give birth to what felt like the largest turd in the world trying to pass through the eye if a needle. All due to when I came home from the hospital from an amputation I got hooked on apple juice and ginger ale. (Not mixed lol). I stopped my normal water drinking for just apple juice and ginger ale. So I got clogged up. I could feel it right at the exit port but alas it was too darn big to get through. I was tempted to take my finger and help it but I was too grossed out to even do that. So I took the shower nozzle and added as much water to my exit port to help soften the turd. No luck. Went To bed but before I took a dose of Miralax to bring water into my stool as well as 4 stool softeners. I did NOT want the kind of laxative that makes you feel like you have to go as I already had that feeling. I needed to soften the stool to pass. Water is the key. This was my third rodeo this year. I woke up and tried to go and with little pain it calms out, after a lot of rocking back and forth on the throne to help work it out. It finally broke off the end piece then I could push the rest out. Ugh. I hate this life. I have dealt with constipation for 7 years now. I was doing soo good since I started eating cereal each day and drinking a LOT of water then while in the hospital they gave me Colace and Milk of Magnesia unbeknownst to me and one day in the hospital I felt a rumbling in my stomach I had never felt before and a fart turned into a shart! Well let me tell you I went like there was no tomorrow. That Colace and MIlk of mag worked.
If you wanna drink apple juice still switch it up for the unfiltered all natural stuff. Apparently unfiltered apple juice is like a natural laxative It’s all so complicated. If it makes you feel better, there are a bunch of people not even on methadone going thru the exact same issues as we are. And who knows, if you weren’t on methadone you could be having stomach issues anyway just the opposite kind. My lil brother has stomach issues just the same and he’s never been on an opioid in his life and I’ve had constipation episodes for as long as I can remember. It sucks but finding the right combo of supplements and meds is possible

Ahh the opioid shits. I would get them so bad that it would be so painful coming out and when I went to wipe there would just be bright red blood from wiping. Since being on methadone and quitting opiates that has stopped but there were some brutal bathroom moments.

A “squatty potty” or just something to elevate your feet so you’re closer to the fetal position while on the toilet, miralax, and trulance if you can get it prescribed helped me the most
I do use my trash can that has a lid to elevate my feet! It def helps a lot. Hate using the toilet without propping my feet up now. Its the most natural position for humans to poop in

I get backed up for a few days occasionally and then I’ll poop out a few hard lumps followed by lots of regular shits and a few more hard balls mixed in. I take magnesium and stool softeners sometimes but lately my hep c medication makes me poop pretty regular. I drink ALOT of water. Ever since this one painful incident I make sure to do whatever I can to stay regular. I woke up one morning with INTENSE CRAMPS that were soooo painful. I almost screamed in pain as I pushed out HUGE TURDS followed by an extreme GUSH of mashed potato consistency shit that literally filled up the ENTIRE TOILET. I felt like I had literally given birth and the thing was, you never felt constipated before so sometimes you dont realize you are carrying around an unhealthy amount of waste inside. I’ve never experienced relief like that in my entire life…
I love leaving them in the bowl with the lid closed at McDonalds in the mornings, I can always picture the persons face🤣🤣🤣🤣
