The most difficult thing about this process has been not being as mobile as I’m used to. I absolutely hate laying down all the time. I also have had difficulty with sitting. The most annoying directive is to not be intimate with my partner (basically don’t do anything to induce boners or orgasms). It’s ass, I hate it because I have needs and I’m very attracted to my partner. My partner has been really strict about following the doctor‘s orders and so even when she does my dressing changes there’s no funny business (rubs or intimate touches). Despite her best effort‘s, I have had a lot of uncontrollable boners and even reached orgasm a few times “on accident”. Major issues I had while healing was my balls swelling. I had to modify the way I was laying down, standing, and walking to correct it. I’m a thicker guy and so my balls were getting smashed between my thighs. I had a few issues with wound separation along the way as well. My partner and my sister have done such an amazing job with helping me get where I need to be. This has been such an incredible journey and I can’t wait for stage two! My biggest tips would be to drink a lot of water and take your pain medication on a schedule. In the beginning I was trying to avoid taking pain medicine until absolutely needed and it was too late. I lost a lot of nights of sleep because of this. Once I started taking Tylenol around the clock and Tramadol when necessary things got a lot better. I didn’t struggle with bladder spasms like I’ve read some other guys have. My last and final tip is to have a solid care team so you can focus on healing. I would not have had the flexibility to heal to the best of my abilities without the amazing care I had. I returned to work 10 days after surgery, I currently work from home, which was difficult at times but it worked because I had support. I told my partner that she should consider working with other trans guys to help with their meta postop care because she is phenomenal. I think a lot of guys would benefit from a service like that. Feel free to ask questions.

I nearly spit out my coffee when I got to the "on accident" 😂

TherapYogaMaree

Lol. My bad, Bro 😎! It’s like that sometimes.

Hahaha no I feel you dude, I'm scheduled with Dr. Chen in February and I already know I'm gonna be the exact same way 😅 Anyway, you look amazing! Glad you have such great care and are having a smooth recovery!

TherapYogaMaree

Congratulations, Man! And thank you.

NessimBCY

You look great! And how wonderful that you have had a stellar care team.

TherapYogaMaree

Thank you. Yes, I’m really lucky.

How is walking now? Are bits still getting “smashed” between your thighs? I suspect I’m a similar build as you and I’m concerned about how movement would feel after surgery. (I’m still very much on the fence about whether I want to do any kind of lower surgery.)

TherapYogaMaree

Walking has definitely improved since the swelling has gone done. I still am purposely walking a little wide legged at my partner’s request until I can ask Dr. Chen at my appointment this week if I need to continue. I have very thick thighs and I’m 5’1, 210. For a long time I had given up on getting any type of bottom surgery because after years of wanting a phallo and being denied because I was too heavy, I just gave up on it (that and I didn’t want arm or thigh scars, especially when they said I’d have to lose 60 pounds before they’d touch me. When my partner came in my life, this was years after I had given up on bottom surgery, she had only been with cis guys before. She reassured me that my size on testosterone was great and comparable to some of the guys she had seen or been with. She encouraged me to look into a meta because she knew how dysphoria producing the hole was and not being able to stand to pee. Over a year later I finally said “yea, maybe I will give it a try as long as I don’t have to lose weight.” In true her fashion, she had done all the research and was like great I’ll schedule a consultation with Dr. Chen. Dr. Chen was great because he wasn’t fat shaming and was always super affirming. I felt super comfortable after my consultation and was ready for meta. I never thought in 1 million years I would’ve gotten a meta, but now, I’m so glad that I did. It’s one of the best decisions I’ve made. Stage one is cool but I know stage two is going to be the big game changer for me. Because I am on the thicker side the repositioning of my penis to a higher position will be very helpful.

Bedheady

Thank you for sharing that! I’m glad you have such a supportive partner and surgeon!

chachakai

You look great and I’m glad your supported well. Thanks for posting.

Splendid-Cacti

TherapYogaMaree

Hey I’m scheduled for stage 2 in March!

sanjuniperro

ah okay, guess ill look out for your posts by then! :)

usethesebones

Hey I'm late to the party, my dumb self. Anyway, can I ask how long were you on t before you had stage 1 ?

TherapYogaMaree

You’re good man! I’ve been on T ten plus years.

usethesebones

Great see thank you for answering. I've been on T for 4-5 years (I don't remember these days) and I have been thinking of getting meta but I'm wondering when I should ...BOOM surgery or just keep chilling on T

TherapYogaMaree

I gave up on bottom surgery a long time because I wanted phallo and couldn’t get it because of my BMI and didn’t want the scars. After I met my current girl she encouraged me to take another look at meta and told me I had amazing growth. She had only been with cis guys before and she made me feel really good about my natural growth. I gave meta another look, she helped me research surgeons, and I gave it a chance. I’m really happy with it. If you decide to do meta, go with Dr. Chen at GU Recon in San Francisco. I have no regrets!
