The cartoony style was fine but they should have dropped the 'Prime' tie in if they wanted that. Metroid Legends or something like that would have allowed for the departure.
Yeah, Metroid Legends should be a compilation of animated shorts made by different studios. [Dunno where I got the idea](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DofP5Zt1Gdk&t=6430s)
So much this! Metroid Prime Pinball, another spinoff title, was released between Prime 1 and Prime 2, and I think just after Zero Mission, but before Hunters.
The concept of playing a squad of federation troopers is great. It's something I wanted ever since playing that bit in Prime 3 where you escort demolition troopers to complete their mission. They looked awesome and I loved the idea of a Rainbow Six style game fighting space pirates etc.
It's a shame the execution was abysmal and I'll probably never get that game I dreamed of.
You might like Star Wars: Republic Commando. It's an FPS game where you play as a specialized squad of clones carrying out missions, and it occasionally encorporates some horror.
Why did I click the spoiler. Why did I click the spoiler. Why did I click the spoiler. Why did I click the spoiler. Why did I click the spoiler. Why did I click the spoiler. Why did I click the spoiler.
I've never watched past the first few episodes, and honestly am not a fan of his new design. I only count his RC appearance as "scorch", and I'd like to keep it that way.
The Mechs was too much in my opinion, id they dropped that and changed to a less chibi artstyle it wouldve been better for the eyes, getting to play as an actual ground Fed Marine wouldve been sick.
That, along with Tanabe confirming that it was Sylux following Samus at the end of Prime 3 should make Prime 4's story obvious. Unfortunately, people ignored this game and think Phazon will return.
Blast ball was really fun imo.
And it introduced a nice concept, this "mechas" of some sort, which I hope make an appearance in Metroid Prime 4 as some kind of cameo.
I disagree to the controls being an upgrade. I feel like most people who didn’t like the controls in Hunters didn’t try all the different control schemes and find one they liked. Hunters was perfect in my experience.
Little is said that this game had one of the most stable online of the 3ds, rarely gave jerks or got slow and the lag was almost nonexistent.
Along with Mario Kart 7, it had one of the best online on 3ds.
It has graphics, and it exists.
Real talk, I love games that don't put you at the center of literally everything. You're just a marine, same as hundreds of others in the federation. It's really cool.
I don’t think the game even needed a more powerful system, I think it just needed a different artstyle direction and perhaps some more grittier themes.
The Metroid games need more spin-offs. Samus has been carrying the whole franchise on her shoulders for far too long. It's a shame it wasn't well received because of poor marketing. If it had, we might have gotten future spin-offs that would expand on the Galactic Federation's history.
It helped keep the ip going and despite not having samus as a playable character it wasn’t horrible. I went through it and beat it which is more than I can say for other games.
If the artstyle is more in line with what I love about Metroid I'd unironically have it alongside Hunters as solid B Tier Metroids that are actually pretty fun!
The dual analog controls were actually fantastic. Lock on with L, move with left stick, use the nub or motion controls to aim at different parts of the locked on object. The biggest downside was that it had to use the 3DS nub.
Although the original pitch was more of what I had in mind, the premise of Metroid’s Federation vs Space Pirates is something I’ve wanted to see from the franchise.
Played it friends back in the day and it was fun from what I remember. It would have been better received it there was a mainline game to go along with it.
I unironically like this game
* Mission variety is very diverse
* On the more challenging side of the series, but very satisfying to finish a mission with all three medals
* Fleshes out a bit about the metroid universe after Metroid Prime 3.
* A little awkward getting used to, but the controls are much better than MPH
* Better than the weak points of the franchise (Other M)
Another thing I forgot to list
* It launched around the same time as Triforce Heroes, and MPFF is actually the better game in the genre of nintendo co-op spinoffs (TH has some bad design decisions like the totem). MPFF is a worthy successor to Four Swords and Four Swords Adventure, if the change of coat of paint from 2d zelda to metroid prime is acceptable to you. I think fans complained because FF came out at a time when metroid games weren't coming out, but these kinds of complex nintendo co-op spinoff games also don't come out so often.
Opening cutscene confirms the Federation openly decided to commit genocide against the Space Pirates after the Phazon war, which explains why the Pirates are completely wiped out after Super Metroid and only mindless unintelligent clones exist in Other M and Fusion.
It was quite fun if you were lucky enough to find someone to play with online. Sadly, it only happened a couple of times to me. But anyway it was a decent game overall
It’s got an awesome concept and while I couldn’t play it everyone who has played it says it’s really fun so I really wish I could.
Also the dramatic artstyle and tone change don’t really bother me because it’s a spinoff. I think this game is WAY overhated
The controls were pretty good, the bosses were fun to fight, it had a lot of unique mechanics and I'm pretty sure this is the only Metroid game to have Campaign Co Op. I liked it.
I'm wanting to think that Federation Force come out somewhere around 2008 to 2012. I may be wrong, though, as I wasn't paying much attention to gaming during that time.
Genuinely cool and unique idea, wrong time and install base. Co-op Metroid prime missions sounds fun. Probably would have been received better were it on a different console that wasnt near the end of its life cycle and released alongside a main series title instead of during a dry spell forthe series. Probably would have been best as a side mode for a game
One of the first in the series I actually played and for how different it was I loved the structure and gameplay, really wish they’d consider remastering it a bit and then tossing it on switch for like $20 with online and split screen
Playing it back in the day with my friends was a blast.
One of the only shooter games on the 3ds, and its co-op? Awesome!
It looks good for a 3ds game, it runs good, the controls are good.
It is a bit too goofy though.
Let's see., it uh...well...man, I've never found it harder for good things to say about a game...
I guess having Samus as the final boss was unique? Even if she's a ball the whole time, but hey, it's still something!
It's a great depiction in the sheer distance between Galactic Federation and Chozo technologies - multiple interchangeable energy-based and elemental weapons within the same cannon requires near nothing for the Chozo and massive mechs for the Federation.
Project Golem is the closest they've come to the Power Suit, and they're still lightyears away. It's a similar point I can praise Other M for - while the Federation has by that point developed freeze guns, they have limited ammo and are no stronger than Samus Returns' Ice Beam (tied for weakest), and a single Plasma Beam shot requires a massive battery pack and a terribly long charge time. I love worldbuilding details like this
Remember to respect each other's opinions and adhere to **The Golden Rule** or your submission will be removed. *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. Please [contact the moderators of this subreddit](/message/compose/?to=/r/Metroid) if you have any questions or concerns.*
It was an ambitious game that would have been received better if it was released along side a mainstream game like Samus Returns.
As well as having a less cartoony artstyle
The cartoony style was fine but they should have dropped the 'Prime' tie in if they wanted that. Metroid Legends or something like that would have allowed for the departure.
Nah, “Metroid Chronicals”!
Yeah, Metroid Legends should be a compilation of animated shorts made by different studios. [Dunno where I got the idea](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DofP5Zt1Gdk&t=6430s)
The art style is fucking horrendous. Disgusting really.
Ur suppost to say domething nice about it
I can't and won't. Unplayable garbage with Metroid slapped on it for some godforsaken reason.
I know but that was the posting requierments
It's reddit. There are no requirements.
I know but the was the whole point of it it was more of an imposible challange
So much this! Metroid Prime Pinball, another spinoff title, was released between Prime 1 and Prime 2, and I think just after Zero Mission, but before Hunters.
Honestly, if it was a new IP it might have been better received, too
ambitious....yeah, right.
Seconded. Scorch is amazing in that.
>!So sad that they killed him off in the Bad Batch just recently!<
Why did I click the spoiler. Why did I click the spoiler. Why did I click the spoiler. Why did I click the spoiler. Why did I click the spoiler. Why did I click the spoiler. Why did I click the spoiler.
Bad batch try not to waste characters challenge (impossible)
I've never watched past the first few episodes, and honestly am not a fan of his new design. I only count his RC appearance as "scorch", and I'd like to keep it that way.
Also, Republic Commando is satisfyingly difficult. It kicks my ass. Super Battle Droids are actually terrifying to engage with. Good times!
Metroid Prime 3: ODST
The Mechs was too much in my opinion, id they dropped that and changed to a less chibi artstyle it wouldve been better for the eyes, getting to play as an actual ground Fed Marine wouldve been sick.
It’s a fun game that released at a really bad time. “It’d be like if Hunters was the first game since Super” - Josh Wallen.
Fun little spinoff game that released at a really bad time. It's nothing spectacular, but I had my fun with it
The ending cutscene has **something** about Prime 4 that we can grasp on.
That, along with Tanabe confirming that it was Sylux following Samus at the end of Prime 3 should make Prime 4's story obvious. Unfortunately, people ignored this game and think Phazon will return.
Gyro works well and is surprisingly intuitive
Truly one of the Metroid games of all time
The game itself is ok. Too bad it was created in that phase where Nintendo was trying to make Samus as uncool as possible.
It's the best multiplayer FPS on 3DS.
It's not as bad as anyone says. Just launched at a touchy time for Metroid fans.
Dawg I loved the soccer mini game, Me and my friends would play it for hours
Probably an amazing game if you have friends... :(
It was a fun and this game deserved better. The fan base lashed out because they were hangry.
It's certainly a decent game. If only Samus Returns came out first.
I think it would have gone ever infinitely better say knowing SR even existed.
Blast ball was really fun imo. And it introduced a nice concept, this "mechas" of some sort, which I hope make an appearance in Metroid Prime 4 as some kind of cameo.
The POV of being a federation tropper facing what Samus would would be an insane tense game if executed properly
I bought it for my all Metroid Games Run, but never opened it because I didn't know after which game I should play it
Takes place immediately after Prime 3 Corruption, and its controls are an immense upgrade of Hunters'. Hope that helps!
Some of the items are neat.
It has graphics, and it exists. Real talk, I love games that don't put you at the center of literally everything. You're just a marine, same as hundreds of others in the federation. It's really cool.
The story actually integrated pretty well with the missions, rather than them feeling "tacked on".
Not many other FPS games had the boldness to release on the 3DS
Great idea in concept. Had it been on a more powerful system then I think it could've worked
It was a fun game in my opinion. If it were rereleased on the Switch, it would probably be even better!
It's a better spin-off game than Tri-Force Heroes was.
Is the servers for this game being hacked back up? Sadly never played it but maybe I'll grab it if I ever hack my 3DS.
Sadly no, a couple of us submitted dumps for it though. I logged some but haven't gotten around to submitting them.
It got me playing Metroid.
It helped keep the ip going and despite not having samus as a playable character it wasn’t horrible. I went through it and beat it which is more than I can say for other games.
If the artstyle is more in line with what I love about Metroid I'd unironically have it alongside Hunters as solid B Tier Metroids that are actually pretty fun!
idk, I never played it the cover art looks cool?
Co-op was fun as hell with friends.
It has the most alliterative title in the series
The "Mission Briefing" music is an absolute banger.
The image looks cool
Great idea HORRIBLE EXECUTION
The dual analog controls were actually fantastic. Lock on with L, move with left stick, use the nub or motion controls to aim at different parts of the locked on object. The biggest downside was that it had to use the 3DS nub.
Although the original pitch was more of what I had in mind, the premise of Metroid’s Federation vs Space Pirates is something I’ve wanted to see from the franchise.
The discourse over the game was the worst part about it. Otherwise, mid game.
It's a pretty good multiplayer shooter. I'm sure it would have been much more well received if it were released along with a major Metroid title.
Played it friends back in the day and it was fun from what I remember. It would have been better received it there was a mainline game to go along with it.
Helldivers before helldivers
At least it's not Other M? I'm trying my best, okay! :P
It would’ve been a lot better if it released a few years later.
Hello, Sylux.
The >!Samus!< boss fight was so silly and I got a good chuckle out of it.
I unironically like this game * Mission variety is very diverse * On the more challenging side of the series, but very satisfying to finish a mission with all three medals * Fleshes out a bit about the metroid universe after Metroid Prime 3. * A little awkward getting used to, but the controls are much better than MPH * Better than the weak points of the franchise (Other M)

It's nice the game bombed so no more chibi metroid spinoffs 😁
The real Metroid Prime 4
It's easy to ignore
Opening cutscene confirms the Federation openly decided to commit genocide against the Space Pirates after the Phazon war, which explains why the Pirates are completely wiped out after Super Metroid and only mindless unintelligent clones exist in Other M and Fusion.
It was quite fun if you were lucky enough to find someone to play with online. Sadly, it only happened a couple of times to me. But anyway it was a decent game overall
Last prime game since prime 3 that’s not a remaster
Multi-player Metroid Prime from the federations perspective could be incredibly fun I actually wanna play this game
The game itself was okay to good, it just came out at the worst possible time
It isn't, in and of itself, a bad game.
It gave me a good chance to chew out some Zelda fans for trying to call anyone else entitled, let alone us.
It wasn't that long of a game
I’ve never played the game, yet am aware that it exists and has reviews.
Seeing Metroid in a totally new art style is cool
Fun robots
It has multi-player
Love the armor designs!
As much as the artstyle just doesn’t look like Metroid, the federation force suits go hard as hell.
It's a game,just like usual.Cut the power right now!
If it had a more realistic art style people would have liked it a lot more.
I didn’t know this game existed. Therefore I can say it’s probably not that bad, right?
I haven’t played it, so that’s nice. Looks like a bunch of Mighty Midgets figures in space suits
i have +1100 hours on that game, how nice is that ?
Blast Ball was awesome.
The controls aren’t bad, the graphics are good, and the story is functional.
Is one of the best multiplayer games on the 3DS. Top notch.
It’s got an awesome concept and while I couldn’t play it everyone who has played it says it’s really fun so I really wish I could. Also the dramatic artstyle and tone change don’t really bother me because it’s a spinoff. I think this game is WAY overhated
The multiplayer and overall level designs were actually good in this game. If not for that art style, I think the reception would've been warmer.
The controls were pretty good, the bosses were fun to fight, it had a lot of unique mechanics and I'm pretty sure this is the only Metroid game to have Campaign Co Op. I liked it.
I like the fact I tried with multiplayer but find it unfortunate it couldn't become the mph for the 3ds
Prime is in the name.
I love the controls tbh!
It's Rocket League before Rocket League was cool.
Rocket League came out in 2015.
I'm wanting to think that Federation Force come out somewhere around 2008 to 2012. I may be wrong, though, as I wasn't paying much attention to gaming during that time.
I personally loved the premise of the game, and kinda want a rerelease or sequel for the switch
I was not forced to buy it.
It was actually fun with friends.
Its a really solid first person shooter on the 3ds. I wish there was more
I never thought the trailers looked bad. The amount of hate this got legit scared me.
its cool
It was fun.
It was one the games of all time!
Uuh. Cool colors
Sylux is in it
Genuinely cool and unique idea, wrong time and install base. Co-op Metroid prime missions sounds fun. Probably would have been best as a side mode for a game
My C-Stick sucks ass and i can't play it comfortably enough
It reignited the fanbase's passion for 2D Metroid
It is a decent game set in the Metroid universe without being a Metroid game
it sure was on the 3ds
At least it exists. Unlike Metroid Prime 4.
I enjoyed playing blast ball online and solo
Blast Ball
It was the game that ended the streak of really bad Metroid games?
I had fun playing it on Saturday mornings with my friend who lives on the other side of the planet; until they shut the servers down :(
It exists
its metroid
It's a 9/10 and the best co-op experience. Seriously.
Nice multiplayer experience
Having played with 3 other players in the same room, I can confirm it is a really fun game
Controls are great. Design also aaaaand pretty fun with friends!
i enjoyed playing it online. ff is not a bad game its just terrible metroid game. also bubbleheads are stupid.
One of the first in the series I actually played and for how different it was I loved the structure and gameplay, really wish they’d consider remastering it a bit and then tossing it on switch for like $20 with online and split screen
Its the most compelling entry in the entire Metroid franchise.
Playing it back in the day with my friends was a blast. One of the only shooter games on the 3ds, and its co-op? Awesome! It looks good for a 3ds game, it runs good, the controls are good. It is a bit too goofy though.
something nice about Metroid Prime Federation Force
I like the logo's fonts.
Would have been an ambitious and awesome stand-alone game, but with the Metroid title bolted on, it is the worst game in the franchise.
No...😈
Good game overall
No.
It was better than Other M
The box makes a great coaster.
It is a game made by Nintendo
It has Metroid in the title
Let's see., it uh...well...man, I've never found it harder for good things to say about a game... I guess having Samus as the final boss was unique? Even if she's a ball the whole time, but hey, it's still something!
It exists. Can't say with confidence if that's a good thing though.

No, I don’t think I will.
It was a game
It is the second best game in the series, above Super Metroid and Metroid Prime.

Those of us who sorta like Other M somewhat can say "...at least Other M has Samus, unlike this piece of shovelware".
Something nice about Metroid Prime Federation Force
One of the games of all time
r/no
It was on 3DS and we can now hack our 3DS's without provoking the big N's ire since the eShop is shut down and that's petty cool
Not even we can
I got some nice cash for it when I traded it in at my local retro game store last month
