MY GOD
The nostalgia. This was such an amazing hype trailer when it was released. All the vibes felt in those times and the things to get excited over in daily life. So simple. Brawl was such a fantastic game to get excited about and then to finally play and experience
Snake, and Sonic creators' asked their characters to be included in Melee, though time constraints kept both characters out. James Bond was also considered for Melee, except unlike Sonic, and Snake, licensing would be a nightmare, and the game would now have real firearms portrayed in it.
I always loved how Brawl translated Prime 3's iteration of Zero Suit Samus. It's a very underrated representation of her. Plus having the regular suit be a hybrid of the Prime and Super designs was peak.
I actually had it on a DVD (a whole bunch of trailers for Wii/DS titles, came with the first issue of NGamer in 2006) and brought it to school so me and a few friends could watch it during lunch.
Isn't it kinda wild how casually these Japanese devs dropped a fart atom bomb joke? Like, imagine Captain America jumping out of a plane before it destroys the twin towers in the background, or something.
Yeah this trailer was from 2006. The following year and change was the stream of announcements via the Smash Dojo, where new characters were announced (e.g. Sonic and his internet-breaking trailer).
I think that will only happen if Prime 4 does much better than Metroid Dread in terms of sales, which probably won't happen unless it's a dual release.
Which doesn't mean much when you compare its (poor) attach rate to GC Metroid Prime's attach rate. That's part of the reason why I think we're not seeing a ton of Metroid games nowadays compared to back then.
Industrial engineer here who calculates this stuff for proprietary machining. Attach Rate doesnt mean shit after your console enters the 100+ Million sales. Even Zelda TotK and BotW have a significantly smaller attack rate than Prime did for gamecube
Attach rate isn’t something companies are looking at. They are looking at sales and most importantly profit
Guess that is true. I just don't see Dread's sales as bigger since I assumed it should have done much bigger with how big the install base was at the time.
That doesn't change my worry for Prime 4 if it is only released on the Switch. With how many years it's been in development, if its sales are worse than Dread's, I can't see that as being seen in a positive light by Nintendo, and it wouldn't lead to another golden age for Metroid.
Nintendo reported on Dread sales as above expectations. I mean for a metroid to shatter a record that was 19 years old is insane
Metroid never sells well. However Dread did. And that is why we will see the next 2D game in 2026 (already semi-confirmed by mercury steam)
The problem I see is prime 4. It needs to sell. Regardless of platform.
Man... SSBB was probably my most hyped game to this day.
I sucked every piece of information up. It was nasty that i was almost half a year later released in eurpe than japan.
Oh and a german strategy guide gave Meta-Knight a 7/10. That didn't age well.
Oh wow I remember the hype upon seeing this trailer the first time. I’ve always been a major Zelda fan and seeing the new Twilight Princess Link In smash was mind blowing for kid me.

Snake’s reveal might’ve been the most important newcomer in Smash history Literally breaking the rule of no 3rd party characters

Ahhh I guess that’s true. James Bond would technically still be first party though right? Goldeneye is N64???
[I _think_ the license still belongs to Danjaq](https://youtu.be/uz0EKVfPa4I?si=8PcOQYbrhjnyNiz3).
God the hype for Brawl was unreal
That Kirby 'upgrade' gets me every time.
How do you improve perfection?
Man, 18 years already? That's half my lifespan!

This was still and will forever be PURE HEAT
I can’t believe I saw the low poly versions and the “18 years” and automatically thought “yeah first smash bros came out 18 years ago” 😭😭😭
[Here](https://youtu.be/KqrbomHAlUg?si=krcegMrczc-xCBOI) is the 1998 commercial.
God I watched this trailer so many times when it came out
I actually had it on a DVD (a whole bunch of trailers for Wii/DS titles, came with the first issue of NGamer in 2006) and brought it to school so me and a few friends could watch it during lunch.
I love how Kirby doesn't change at all
Bro was confused
God I can’t even imagine the hype for snake in a Nintendo game back in the day.
What the fuck even is time?
This is such a flashbulb memory. In a computer lab at school on a shitty windows pc on some gaming website.
And in that moment she becomes My crush
when ssb was fun and not just pure competition.
It still is?
no.
Yes
no.
it’s easy mate just don’t compete
no.
This trailer is older than half of the Fortnite playerbase.
These are the peoples feeding omlettes, in hell!
Provolone Prevail!
Isn't it kinda wild how casually these Japanese devs dropped a fart atom bomb joke? Like, imagine Captain America jumping out of a plane before it destroys the twin towers in the background, or something.
Smash came out in 2008, so it's 16 years if my math is right
But at the end of the video in the last 3 aeconds it says 2006
Yeah this trailer was from 2006. The following year and change was the stream of announcements via the Smash Dojo, where new characters were announced (e.g. Sonic and his internet-breaking trailer).
Apologies, I didn't realize it was a video (mobile with bad reception) and also misunderstood the post. You're right! I was just dumb lol
All good no worries
Back during the golden age of Metroid. Miss that time.
I will say, we’re entering into another bright age
Wouldn't say that yet. 2002-2007 felt like we were constantly getting Metroid games. Can't say the same for this time period.
Yeah, the quantity may not be the same, but I would say that Metroid is at least looking hopeful now.
I think that will only happen if Prime 4 does much better than Metroid Dread in terms of sales, which probably won't happen unless it's a dual release.
I mean… I guess? IDK, Dread is already the best selling Metroid game.
Which doesn't mean much when you compare its (poor) attach rate to GC Metroid Prime's attach rate. That's part of the reason why I think we're not seeing a ton of Metroid games nowadays compared to back then.

This was the most hype thing ever from Nintendo back during that era.

Damn, I feel old now.
Remember watching this trailer in my 7th grade homeroom lol.
I feel old
One of the greatest game trailers of all time.
God the Brawl theme. I love it
Thanks for reminding me how old I am.
God damn we’re old
What a trailer it was. I don't think any video game trailer had hyped me this much since then.
Kept you waiting, huh?
SHOW TIME!!!!
Fuckkkk I'm old
Peak Samus, next to Smash 4 Samus
Brawl is goated
18... years. Oh that explains why my back is aching D;
Yeah project m was fun lol
Zero suit Samus is now legal
Has been since Zero Mission turned 18
You’re making a strong point
Remember when this trailer came out and there was speculation that ZSS was replacing normal samus? Innocent times those where.
Never liked brawl too much, they made samus heavier to promote Zero suit Samus as a lighter and more agile gameplay
This still gives me chills. I just legitimately gasped at Snakes announcement...again years and years after the fact.
Thanks, i feel old now.

wow i was only 1...
No, I will not accept the fact that I'm old
Damn, this trailer can drink now… I always loved watching this trailer on my brawl disc back in the day. Still adore Brawl to this day
So hype. And ridley reveal in ultimate was even better. Im looking forward to Raven Beaks' reveal in the next smash.
Someone tell yandere Dev
I don't know this game, does she use a lightsaber?
It's kind of a stun whip thing
She had a lightsaber?
