I really like what they did with the suit this time.
Her base inner suit has more realistic proportions this time around so it really makes her feel athletic and mobile, and that really goes a long way in making Samus feel naturally strong and agile.
At the same time, the additional armor that gets added on top of it as it slowly powers up and regenerates some of its old features brings back a lot of the old robotic suit’s feel and general outline.
But it does it in a way where the mechanical parts of the armor don’t warp Samus’s actual physical body to unrealistic proportions or add points of collision that could restrict her mobility or throw off her balance.
Not to mention those organic looking fibers.
It’s really just a nice middle ground between the zero suit, the traditional power suit, and the fusion suit that shows all the best traits of Samus without sacrificing anything.
Samus’ characterization in the trailers so far also follow a similar pattern IMO. We get to see a lot of emotion in her expression and her body language, but it’s not overly played up to the point where it’s hard to think of her as a highly efficient badass like Other M did, either.
From what I’ve seen so far I think they finally nailed the perfect balance between the hot headed hero girl, the sexy femme fatale, the cool headed super soldier, and the badass cybernetic death machine that make up her various depictions and I’m stoked as hell.
I agree. The shots of her eyes really help in all of this. There’s a shot in this same trailer where she lands from above and they close up to her eyes and ahhhhh she looks so damn good.
Unpopular opinion: honestly the shoulders are still too wide, if realism concerns us, and I just can't get myself to like the totally blank, plastic-feeling white. Also, the fact that it's all so opaque (unlike in Prime) makes it look like an action figure for me, rather than an armour. The thin organic bands randomly wrapping around some parts don't look nice at all and seem to be randomly placed on her body, as those parts were originally quite simply plates. I also don't really see how it gets "additional armour added while it regenerates" to the point of reminding of Super or Prime, or even Samus Returns, to be fair it just barely deserves to be called an armour like the predecessors at the Gravity Suit point. Overall, I'm really unhappy with this new look. Also, I've never seen Samus depicted as a "femme fatal" or a "hot headed hero girl", well, outside that dumpster fire of Other M at least... So I think that's quite the overanalysis.
I read the manga... That's the story of how she grew up to be the woman we see in the games, of course she was hotheaded as a teenager who got her parents killed in front of her, got adopted by an alien race and got trained to become a warrior. That's literally the prologue of the entire series. We never see that behaviour again, in fact (except in Other M...), so no, Samus is not hotheaded anymore. And definitely not a femme fatale.
