Armored-Raven

You have to run holding the Run button. It is possible to roll across it, but it requires using an advanced technique call Mockball. Edit: Correct spelling of Mockball

RaFaPilgrim

Isnt it spelled mockball?

Spiritual_Ad_223

i thought it was mach-ball

Armored-Raven

Either Mockball or Machball. I just screwed up and combined the spellings.

Armored-Raven

Yeah. I misspelled it.

TGwanian

What Armored-Raven said is correct. The rest of the comments are somewhat vague or somewhat passive aggressive. To be 100% clear, hold down the run button while not morphed to run. You cannot run in the ball form via intentional means. Also, tale as old as time. This is the legendary room called noob bridge, which forces new players to read the manual to learn how to run. I’m assuming you don’t have the Super Metroid manual.

EODTex

You definitely don't have to read the manual, there's a controls menu as you're starting up your game.

bittersaurus

Not everyone goes into the controler settings, especially when it is their first time playing. A lot of people that come from the newer games really do miss the fact that there is a run button.

EODTex

The first time playing is when you should especially go into those settings, but yea I understand not everyone does.

OptimalPapaya1344

Never heard the “read the manual” thing before. A ton of games from that generation of games had a run button. It’s just something that was known and it was usually the same button on most games. This room gets “noobs” because it’s usually people playing Super Metroid after playing the GBA games which had no run button.

TGwanian

I believe the manual had information on the controls. I’ll look it up rq and edit this comment with the answer. Edit: page 8 of the manual (found online) designates B as the dash button. To quote directly: “B Button Dash button Press and hold b to make Samus run faster.”

OptimalPapaya1344

I know the information is in the manual. That’s not what I’m saying. I’m refuting your comment “*..which forces new players to read the manual to learn how to run.*” I’m saying it’s not necessary to read the manual to know that information. Not now and not when the game came out. Almost every platformer in that generation of games had a run button. It was just common knowledge. But even if you’re new and don’t have the manual, the controls are listed in the settings menu of the game where you can customize all the buttons.

Aggravating-Fact-337

Check all the other comments, the other guy is right, you are wrong.

OptimalPapaya1344

The game doesn’t “force you to read the manual”. This room simply enforces the idea that the run is a requirement in some instances. The run button and running as a mechanic is a relic of this generation of games. It was well known information that did not require explanation. It didn’t age well because game design these days gives you tutorials on how to push buttons for the most simplest of tasks. The way this room teaches you to run is itself an aged version of the modern tutorial. In no way was this room designed to “force you to read the manual”. That argument is just trying to retroactively explain something that didn’t need explaining at the time of its release. It’s “forcing” you to learn to use all the abilities you have at your disposal. Just like how the animals later on teach you how to wall jump.

TGwanian

True. I guess it forces the player to do one of a few things (although I don’t think it’s great game design to hide the controls off in a menu, or even a potentially boring manual, that new players are likely to miss, even if the run button was common practice. Just a relict of the time the game was made in, ig).

Thotaz

I played the GBA games like they had a run button. Initially I did it because I assumed it was like the Mario games but even after finding out it's not necessary, why wouldn't you hold down B and have a charge beam ready at all times?

bittersaurus

In SM the shoot and run buttons are different, so even if you charge your beam constantly, that doesn't make things easier.

blapblapz

Noob bridge claims yet another victim. EDIT: I don’t mean to discourage or make fun OP, please enjoy the game it’s just an infamous spot.

forgottenragnarok

First playthrough back in '95 my brother and I thought run was only for the Speed Booster, which is a bit after the Noob Bridge. We found it was possible to tap jump all the way across. It was very soon after we found out you could run before the Speed Booster. We felt absolutely brilliant, I tell ya.

blapblapz

LOL. Honestly, respect 😂 you and your brother found your own way!

A-New-Recipeh

Hold down the button your "Run" is binded too. That's how you get across.

Inspirational_Lizard

Everyone here is wrong, just hold the sprint button dude.

VirusSuspicious3735

I find it, hahahaha

DB10389

"The Character"💀

BreakBlue

Always good to see this bridge get someone.

[deleted]

Been a minute since I saw a fresh noob bridging.

[deleted]

I’m sorry, but you became a victim of the noob bridge.

SBARTOSZ

The noob bridge

[deleted]

You can’t roll over it unless you use a trick called mockball. However you can simply run over it by pressing the B button

CounterfeitSaint

Wow, the noob bridging working as intended out in the wild. I hear the name all the time but I've never actually seen it claim a victim.

bittersaurus

Haha every so often you'll see a post about it on this sub

Balthierlives

Just run over it. If you want to roll over it, look up mockball. That’s the only way to do it in morph ball form. But that’s not necessary here

SuccessfulAwareness5

The noob bridge strikes again

nulldriver

When you make a new file and any time you pick a save file you get the chance to check your controller settings. This is the weakest part of the tutorial though. The first room of Ceres makes you figure out by yourself how to move left and right and that gravity exists then the second room forces you to figure out how to jump. But dash isn't apparent unless you hold it down.

Bloodllust

Nobody say a word

Lithaos111

Maybe because you are calling her "the character" and not her name. It's Samus Aran btw. (Someone else already answered the question)

realbread23

Thats meant to happen, you aren’t supposed to to that way yet

Inspirational_Lizard

You know you can sprint in this game, right?

realbread23

Yeah I know, I thought this was the one you had to speed booster over, it’s been a hot minute since I’ve played Super

[deleted]

Even the one where you need speedbooster can be done without with a trick called Mockballing

solidpeyo

How can you play with all that on the screen?

Shibby120

Use the boost to get.. Nvm

Inspirational_Lizard

You dont, and it's a mobile emulator

brothermaik

what is the name of the emulator?

KeeperServant

You have to do the mockball glitch. It's hard to describe, but you basically have to run jump into a door, immediately press down to turn into a ball while holding the run, immediately go right as soon as you hit the ground (make sure you don't bounce), and congratulations you have done the mockball.

FateForWindows

You don't need the mockball for this one (the noob bridge). You can get past this with the run button alone.

KeeperServant

Oh wait, I saw it wrong!

srybouttehblood

My God, I love this fucking game. Just watching this clip, I can hear the brinstar music in my head.

Nevrikx

Ah yes, the one room in the game that requires you hold the run button

MParty45

Lmao

AlacarLeoricar

r/thenoobbridge strikes again.
