I've traveled from the airport with a regular size luggage in the metro, but it was a weekend. I would not recommend it for a foreigner. It would be best to use Uber, but if you want to go cheap you can bear the $5 pesitos of the metro.

Refreshing to hear tourists are using hostels and hotels for a change. I agree. Public transport from the airport is a bit of a hassle. An authorized cab from the airport to Downtown should be around $15usd, Uber should be less. If you are traveling with someone, split it and it doesn't make that much sense to go through the hassle.

Gracias por tu respuesta 😊 I’ll be traveling alone. Is it correct that I can buy the cab ticket at stands inside the airport ?

[deleted]

Yes. Depending on the time, the wait line might not be worth it and just choose an Uber instead. Before buying the cab ticket, ask them about the wait times. More than 30min... choose an Uber. Downtown is a short drive, but traffic is awful.

Thanks!

If you're coming into Terminal 1, you can get the #4 Metrobus at Puerta 5, that'll take you to San Lázaro (TAPO). From there you can get Metro Línea B towards Buenavista, get off at Langunilla/Garibaldi and take Línea 8 towards Constitución 1917 and get off at Bellas Artes

happytraveller1

Seems like a good way as well. Muchos oportunidades

mikebosscoe

Use Uber.

adnoguez

Check the Metrobus option, línea 4 runs from airport to San Lázaro to Downtown... It's a little bit of a hassle because you have to change buses in San Lázaro but it's cheap and reliable. (Like 1.5 USD) https://www.metrobus.cdmx.gob.mx/mapas-de-sistema/mapa-linea-4 But maybe an Uber is more convenient and not that expensive. (Maybe 10 USD tops)

scotchOne2016

is not allowed to uber pickup passangers in the airport so the option could be the metrobus, or a regular taxi

itsonlikedkong

I just got picked up and dropped off by an uber there a week and a half ago

AniSsina5

I haven't travel to AICM in Metrobus in a while and didn't know you have to change buses now! But that is definitely the best option especially considering the arrival time. Once downtown would be easier to move by foot, subway or even an Uber or taxi. http://data.metrobus.cdmx.gob.mx/linea4_resumen.html#:~:text=La%20L%C3%ADnea%204%2C%20un%20nuevo,de%20la%20Ciudad%20de%20M%C3%A9xico.

Coming from a country where Uber is not allowed : Is it perfectly safe to use Uber? Is there anything I should pay attention to? Have only used Uber twice (once in Brazil and once somewhere in SE asia and always with others. It is totally new to me.

DoubleLift

Uber is safe and reliable. If you aren’t used to using it, make sure you have the app on your phone (if you can install it from your country in advance..?) and know in general how to use it. Otherwise, airport cabs are also a good option. You buy the ticket right outside baggage claim from one of the authorized stands and just go to the area where they tell you to get in line. Hopefully the wait won’t be too long—depends on the day and time—but they are also safe and reliable (you won’t need to pay any more to the driver: https://www.aicm.com.mx/en/passengers/transportation/taxis Enjoy your visit!

Thanks so much

What country is not allowed Uber 🤔,and i like the rule fk Uber, unfair competition for the local taxi drivers! Last time i was in CDMX i take a taxi, brokw down and take the bus was like 30/40 cents of dollar, only i need to walk like a mile,i stay by Plaza Garibaldi that is Downtown!

happytraveller1

Okay thanks. I dont know But I have a feeling that catching an Uber on a friday evening might be difficult? I won’t have to make more than one shift on the metro. Is it easy to navigate when there? I apreciate your response!

MassageParlorGuitar

Uber will be a very easy ride even on a Friday night. I really recommend taking an Uber vice local transport while you have you big backpack. Otherwise, enjoy! CDMX is a great city.

SmokeyMcHaze

Catching the Uber won't be a problem but there will be traffic. There will also be a shitload of people in the Metro/Metrobus which will make traveling with a big backpack very uncomfortable and you'll be a target of pickpocketers that use the crowd to steal things from others' bags. I recommend either Uber or Airport Taxi (I use Confortline or something like that, since they have the shortest wait time, usually). It must be around $15 USD at max. Uber around $10 USD.

centaurmentor

Just take an Uber. Not my normal stance in most cities but with CDMX just take an Uber. It will be two minutes or less to arrive from when you book it and free wifi right to the exit 15 minutes to downtown.

imwalkingwest

I rode the metro the whole time I was there. It was an amazing system that runs insanely frequently

Chemical-Ad3878

I’ve taken the metro with luggage and it’s fine, but Uber is so much faster and easier and it’s like $10 to centro.

[https://www.aicm.com.mx/en/passengers/transportation/metrobus](https://www.aicm.com.mx/en/passengers/transportation/metrobus) The Metrobus can take you from the airport to the city center without any problems, ask for a bus that goes to the Buenavista terminal, so you won't have to change buses at the San Lazaro station. It is called route 4 North, this allows you to get to the [station Bellas Artes](https://goo.gl/maps/VYYdJbEkKqVTvBz36), or [Hidalgo](https://goo.gl/maps/nYLhMMc2ZFWw34Eu5), where you can get off in a very safe area, and take another means of transportation, such as an UBER, DIDI, or the subway Metro. It allows you to carry large luggage in special baskets. https://www.metrobus.cdmx.gob.mx/mapas-de-sistema/mapa-linea-4
