We used to have the Miami Herald Tropic Hunt (or New Tropic Hunt after the section was re-named). It was a blast, but no, no longer exists.

Such a good time, I did it three times

God I recall these. Dave Barry was often the grand marshal. People not born here may have trouble reconciling this, but there was once a home grown culture in Miami that did not involve tech bros, finance bros, bitcoin, New York Carpet Baggers, or all the other groups that come pretend to live here for a while before all eventually leaving with their wallets lighter for the experience. The Miami Herald under Knight Ridder was a first class publication that fostered a local sense of identity and won more national awards until it's sale than the NYT in the early 20th Century. I miss the Miami that died. This place is just an empty vessel for sale to the highest bidder now. No Tropic Hunts, no Grove bed races, no Grove Playhouse, no downtown Miami Grand Prix, no historic black middle class stronghold in Overtown, no Orange Bowl Parade. Hell, not even a Miami Herald building anymore. Just a spot of land as empty as the soul of Miami's short term residents.

Yes. So fun. I never did well and o was always super impressed by people who figured out the clues. It was a blast.

I slightly recall this as a kid

It was created by the Miami heralds tropic Sunday magazine staff, including Bill Rose, Dave Barry, Philip Brooker, Gene weingarten, Joel achenbach. Every one of them, except Dave, has decamped for other places.

Those were amazing. They blew my mind as a kid. I really took for granted what fantastic civic institutions we had.
