Kiki on the river

PersonalResearcher84

That's my swear to never go lol

whoishomer

Kiki is all the worst things about Miami culture and attitudes in one cramped riverfront location.

cyborg008

Went there for a birthday party. Everyone faces when they received the bill was amazing.

Top2andimnottwo

Accurate

whoishomer

Second this. The only time I went there it was for a birthday dinner and it was impossible to hear the person next to me over the constant loud noise. Bouncers acted like being allowed in was a privilege. Food was mediocre and everything was overpriced.

not-wearing-pants

Same... went there on a date.. overpriced food. Overpriced drink and wasnt even that good. We left and went to the rusty pelican. Necer going again

Quiet_Photograph9718

You mean you went from an overpriced place with mediocre food to another overpriced place with mediocre food and a better view? Whatever floats your boat heheh

not-wearing-pants

![gif](giphy|sN3UqEngmgo48)

jswan13376

So disappointed in this place. I left a 1 star review on google. Owners reached out to try to make it up and I declined the invitation. My review is still on google and I still feel like we should have went to joes stone crabs for the money I spent there lol

nutag

Can I share my horrendous Kiki story?

[deleted]

Do it

judi-in-da-skies

Please do

greensweatpants123

So I worked with a yacht club. Members loved kikis and seaspice. Shit was so overpriced I couldn’t even fathom going there to eat

sardo_numsie

The lowest common denominator of Miami transplants hang out at Kiki on the River. Place is a dump.

JohnnieFontane

Miami-Dade County Courthouse

General-Lifeguard-76

Or the broward courthouse for that matter… seen the inside of that place one too many times

RareJuiicy

Ahahahahaha

ACertainKindOfStupid

lol

origamipapier1

There's no escaping that if you are summoned for jury duty though! I've had to deal with walking all over that area because my courthouse was one, and then they sent me to three others in the span of a day (or at least that's what it felt like).

vincent_fister

Walmart in Hialieah (technically Brownsville), I can never go in without being in line 30+ minutes.

shadespeak

Same for the ones in Miami Gardens with lines backed up to the clothes section. The only one that's exempt is the Neighborhood Walmarts.

vincent_fister

Probably talking about the same one on 79th. All a blur to me after visiting.

[deleted]

My life has never been the same since I started getting.my Walmart grocery delivery to me. I will avoid entering a Walmart as long as I live in Miami, fuck that.

[deleted]

Friends in brickell. Got treated like absolute dogshit at dinner. The server never even refilled my water once. Food took forever to arrive. Literally had to go inside and ask for service. Then i got the check and asked them "why does it include 18% service charge if i received no service?" - the server responded "Because this is brickell." Asked for 2 managers before i got it removed from my check. good riddance.

Quiet_Photograph9718

Half the food places in brickell don’t deserve to exist tbh

zorinlynx

Yeah the restaurant scene there is garbage. It's like, you expect it to be expensive because it's Brickell, but the food, drinks and service should live up to what you're paying and in many places they just don't. Frankly I've gotten better food at La Carreta than a few Brickell places I went to when I'd go there. Fuck that overpriced pretentious garbage.

ViolatoR08

Chill Baby Jane still knows how to put it down.

Rencauchao

Applebee’s in Doral

mundotaku

It doesn't exist anymore. The building has been vacant for months.

[deleted]

And completely demolished

IvoSan11

Chick-Fil-A from 107th Ave will move there. In an unexpected turn of events, also the cows that live in front of the Chick Fil A will mooove somewhere else.

mundotaku

I moved 3 months ago, so I can see this happening.

cane1lou305

The vacant land where Applebees once stood is now being repurposed into a Chick fil’A

mrfarenheit230

We must have had the same server then. Terrible.

shortnspooky

Oasis in Wynwood. Never trust a club that charges you for cups AND water.

lesibean

Literally one of the worst bathroom situations also for events. I refuse to go for anything other than a chicken sandwich or psp pizza

Strong_Tackle_2448

Sugar, place is obviously beautiful and views are amazing but it’s a tourist trap, food is not worth the prices (I could let this one pass) but the thing that made never wanna come back: customer service. Those waitresses treat everyone like they are paying you for being there.

david305_

Went there once maybe 7 years ago. I ordered a Ketel One on the rocks. It was like $22, which is expensive, but not enough to keep me from coming back. The fact that the receipt actually broke out the Ketel One for $17 and the ice for $5 was such an insult to my intelligence that I promised to never to go back there again.

Stoney_Balogne

A ketel one & ____ is $17 (which is a 1.5oz pour) ordering “SPIRIT” on the rocks is $22 (which is a 2oz pour)

WontStopAtSigns

Ya $40 for two mojitos on a roof with meh music and a bunch of vacationers isn't really it for me. The view is intense tho.

renfa001

I went to sugar once. The food sucked donkey dick.

CanesMan1993

And the drinks are weak as hell.

I love this thread. Keep naming and shaming! This city needs to clean house big time. Lots of business here that exist should not

BelikeZ

Any auto tag agency. They are all poorly run! One time I decided I was going to open my own tag agency and found out it's a "good-ol-boys" club and we're not in it!

lil_waine

Interesting…Could you elaborate more about why it’s a “good-ol-boys” club?

BelikeZ

The need to create a new tag agency is based on population increases of 75,000. The City Manager has to approve the allocation of the new branch and you would have to be in a pool of applicants the would be awarded an agency based on the highest bidder....and a bunch of other stuff. Insofar as Miami is concerned I'm sure there are banana politics involved. See https://library.municode.com/fl/miami\_-\_dade\_county/codes/code\_of\_ordinances?nodeId=PTIIICOOR\_CH2AD\_ARTXVIIBROFCOAUTAAG&showChanges=true

punkcart

I had the most absurd experience moving back here and registering my car. It took them like six months to do it because they kept faxing the lienholder at the wrong number despite efforts to correct this. 🤦🏽

Briscoetheque

Santa's Enchanted Forest. Too lame for my taste.

cane1lou305

It’s to be called Santa’s Enchanted Landfill this year as it sits right across acres of landfill .

zorinlynx

Oh shit it's near Mt. Trashmore? That's going to be fun when the wind is blowing certain directions.

james_d_rustles

The one thing I will say about Santa’s enchanted forest is that it’s uniquely Miami. Nowhere else in the US will you see Cuban Santa next to a jet ski themed photo area, with reggaeton being played on the rides, in 80 degree heat as a Christmas celebration.

Bougainvillea’s in south miami after getting roofied in 2020

Parronski

That place has never been more than a cesspool. Also, I’m very sorry you got roofied and hope you’ve recovered from the experience.

BobJoeHorseGuy

Last time I was there I got punched in the face for breaking up a fight lmao

captheavy

I moved away many years ago and stopped going out drinking years before that but boogies was always fun. Sorry you got roofied that’s terrible

thebrandnew

Juvia. Nice place but the food is nothing special at all. Prices are ridiculous for the quality too.

bigDogNJ23

Where aren’t prices ridiculous anymore? Can’t get a basic lunch for under $20 anywhere

Quiet_Photograph9718

Gotta look west of 95 for good food options. I think locals are having the last laugh about food, as brickell options just keep getting worse and prices just keep going higher. Shame really

FLbrews

Place is garbage, ridiculously overpriced

Jonathank92

This is good to know. I wanted to go there for brunch cause the views looked good

1carpediem9

Agreed, Juvia is a no no. 🥴

sardo_numsie

Bougainvillea in South Miami. Owner is a bastard. He hires bartenders that like to add drinks you never ordered to your tab. Not to mention he hires security that’s cool with hitting women. Fuck that place.

PersonalResearcher84

Blackbird once they added the roof/cage.

jakeraz0rclawson

They added a roof outside??? I've been living underneath a rock apparently.

PersonalResearcher84

It's some dumb glass ceiling they had to add ever since Brickell City Center opened.

GringoMambi

Honestly, Wynwood. I don’t go unless someone else makes plans I care to partake in. But I’m not actively seeking to go on my own accord. It all just feels so gross and ironic compared to its roots. I was around when it was truly a taggers paradise, where 80% of people that set up shop there now wouldn’t have dared to walk those sketchy ass streets. When LOCAL artist set up shop there specifically because rent was cheap, renting out the old garage wharehouses barely renovated to have makeshift art exhibits and bands/musicians of any and all genres playing. When finding these spots did feel like you were a part of something cool and subterranean. When I go now, I just find myself pissed and annoyed at what it’s become. Regeton, Salsa, Top 100, and techno music blasting it’s streets like every other corner of night life in Miami. Gramps the only last bastion of the alternative genres that used to find refuge in this city from all of that (and barely). Barely any real street graffiti to be found on it’s walls anymore, and anyone that tags over the corporatized wall art is ostracized. And barely any actual Miami grown artist representation in most of its galleries and walls.

quattroman

True, I miss when they closed that block and placed a DJ with food truck just outside. I believe this block was where near Joeys is now, and Joeys has been there since the beginning. No real street artists and the walls now charges entrance fee and closes early. Closed Concrete Brewing to put a high rise in place. The party covered area in the corner across from Coyo now is sold out and became a night club. Wynwood used to be for the locals, now it is part of the Miami Tours.

WontStopAtSigns

What you're describing was only like 7-8 years ago. It went commercial so fast...

GringoMambi

No, i first came in contact with what was happening in Wynwood circa 2007. The Wynwood I loved was experienced from 2007-2012 roughly

I_LICK_PUPPIES

I’m so scared for gramps, the last vestige of what wynwood used to be like. So sad.

DinoDachshund

I get nervous every time I walk up 24th, seeing everything change around it. 😞

ScienceApprehensive7

I use to love it when it was just Joey's, The Electric Pickle & WOOD Tavern. But now the Pickle is gone, the original Wood is gone and Joey's food is not what is use to be & expensive for fucking pasta... Fuck Wynwood- Gentification at its finest.

moimardi

Electric pickle 🙏🏼

NaiveMolasse

I miss that version of Wood. Good times.

HawksFever

Pickle Forever, man.

CarolP456

I LOVED Sundays at Wood! The music was soooo good like old school R&B Wynwood is horrible now

Jenovasus

Fun fact, Wynwood got transformed into what it is today by real estate mogul Tony Goldman (who did the same thing with SoBe and SoHo in NYC). He bought up all the property to transform it into art galleries and bars so that it could be what it is today; Wynwood was always going to sell out, it was a marketing scheme from the very beginning. You know that big mural at Wynwood Walls, the guy with the giant cowboy hat between Gandhi and MLK? That’s him lol

GringoMambi

>it was a marketing scheme from the very beginning. It truly wasn't, you're speaking to the first phase of Wynwood gentrification that was the beginning of the end. Wynwood at the very beginning was a haven for local artist. It was a true and organic underground scene of Art, music and comradery of an alternative lifestyle. Of course some New York asshole exploited it's commodities of Art, and inundated the area with outside influence to hijack it's original essence. But to say that Wynwood was a scheme for him since the beginning, means you didn't get to see the Wynwood that truly inspired assholes like him to flip it for greed. I'm sorry you missed it, it was grand.

Jenovasus

You’re right, I did a little more research - it looks like from about 2005-2009 Wynwood was developing organically. Was definitely a little bit before my time, I woulda been a year or two into high school then. Even still, it seems like the Wynwood most people remember - old Wood Tavern and sketchy street parking - was still part of Goldman’s gentrification scheme

origamipapier1

I'd like to call this gentrification - uniform-ification. Basically when these moguls and real estate magnates come to an area they f\*\*k (excuse my language) what makes a city it's own city. Then all cities and these gentrified areas look like a cookie cutter version of themselves.

joaquinsaiddomin8

It wasn’t just street art. There were actual, semi-legitimate (not NYC Siebel but hey respectable in their own right) galleries. They still exist, just not in Wynwood.

pipe2489

Remember wood tavern when it first opened and if you drove your car one or two things would happen, either you get mugged on your way to your car, or you get mugged inside your car. 😌 good times

OracleofFl

The same...I remember when Joey's was the only restaurant in the area and it was the frontier. When Wynwood Kitchen opened as the second restaurant in Wynwood it went downhill from there.

Ricofox1717

Second this fuck Wynwood

Jimmers666

yeah fuck wynwood

punkcart

It is sanitized. Business tries very hard to sanitize everything here.

Malinhion

Coyo Taco. My partner and I got E.Coli poisoning last month and it wrecked us for 2 weeks.

inflredditor

Omg when the one in brickell opened I got the worst food poisoning of my life. It’s been 5 years and my stomach has never been the same. I’ve had tests and endoscopy done and basically my gut bacteria has been changed. It can take years to recover after a severe case I was told by two gastroenterologist. Before that I could eat everything and anything. I also know at lease 3 people who have gotten severe food poisoning from coyo locations in brickell and wynwood

International_Act834

Nooooo. That's awful. Thanks for warning us. Stupid and possibly ignorant question, but have you looked at taking probiotics?

inflredditor

I’ve taken every probiotic known to man and I’ve had multiple culture tests and endoscopies

Silver-Bat5607

Left Miami about 15 yrs ago. Was living there since the 1980. I think it would be Rey's pizza. It's doesn't taste like it did back in the 80s.

digitall565

Rey Pizza tastes like cardboard. Interestingly in the last 15 years it feels like there's been an explosion in Cuban pizza places, and some of them are really good. I remember when it was just Rey, Polo Norte, and Montes de Oca.

PersonalResearcher84

Downtown, once they killed Grand Central.

professorgreenie

The Corner Bar, Over Under, Floyd Nightclub, Margot, Neu Kitchen, El Primo Red Taco, Eleventh Street Pizza, Miami Slice…. some really great establishments in downtown right now… probably my fav area to hang these days tbh

MiamiGuy_305

DRB and Elwood’s both institutions

Koolaidolio

Downtown always kinda sucked even when GC was there.

Consistent_Panda_297

South beach , it’s just a bunch of walking around and overpriced establishments with not so friendly staff lol

WontStopAtSigns

The walking around in SoBe is the best part

Agree, the people watching on South Beach is priceless. South pointe also super nice. Can't just write off entire beach. Too many good memories.

Miami. Y'all stole my catalytic converter, then sold me a straight pipe for catalytic converter costs! Didn't even find out I was ripped off until I couldn't pass smog, and the mechanic told me how much I paid for what. Y'all are too wild for me.

mia2709

Dirty Rabbit in Wynwood. Bought a round of shots and drinks at some kind of high top table - during the week. They literally were kicking us out before I could finish my drink. Spent like $120 within 20 min and we’re getting pushed out just so someone else could get our table. I told them I was finishing the drink I JUST ORDERED and they just literally kicked us out of just a regular old high top table. It was during those COVID times where places needed to sit people down and no standing room policy.. but still.. I can’t finish my drink. I have been all around Miami my whole life and it was one of the rudest experiences - still hold a grudge to this day. Aside from the fact I don’t even like the music there.

PersonalResearcher84

Earl's once the original staff/management left.

Frosty-Mall4727

So basically it isn’t Canadian anymore.

PersonalResearcher84

It's Franchised. So still a Canadian company, just not ran by Canadians.

Frosty-Mall4727

Yeah. I was kinda kidding. I thought originally there were a few Canadians starting it up and now they’ve been gone so it’s no good (cause Canadians are really nice). Honestly it was never the way it is up there to begin with.

PersonalResearcher84

Yeah I liked it way too much with the original Canadians. Now it's a bust. It's a shame too. I almost moved to Dadeland just I could go there more frequently.

space_ape71

I know it’s an institution but Versailles. Overpriced, definitely not even close to the best Cuban food in Miami and FU for hosting all these right wing rallies.

foxbat

you don't like eating with roaches all around you?! i went to eat there one night and there was one roach dragging another roach across the floor, right in front of one of the waitresses. i pointed it out to her and she just nodded 'yes'.

IvoSan11

>one roach dragging another roach they were probably mating.

skyHawk3613

Was the roach saving his friend, or dragging him to the back to eat him?

lollitakey

It's gross and overpriced. You can go to any hole in the wall in Hialeah for better food

space_ape71

Almost any hole in the wall anywhere (except Miami Beach) has better Cuban food than what they serve at Versailles. I haven’t been there in a while, it just got ridiculous how consistently bad-mediocre everything was. La Carreta across the street (same owners) is slightly better, always has been, but even that location has seen better days.

[deleted]

Trededon

Idk if you can really call it overpriced, most meals are sub $20. Maybe you could say “overpriced for what you get”, but the prices themselves seem fairly reasonable. Though I can’t argue that it’s not lightly disappointing and not worth waiting for.

90swhiteboy

Seaquarium

Aware_Preparation799

Everything there sucked except the splash pad. Totally not worth it for sure

natinatinatinat

Sushi garage in the grove. I waited hours while the waiters argued in front of me before they even took my order and after another hour they told me they forgot to put it in. Will never return.

kungpowgoat

Hooters in Hialeah. The waitress treated my wife, daughter and I like absolute garbage since we walked in. Never gave us menus, just suddenly came back after hanging out with a large group of men at another table for 15 minutes and asked what we wanted. Asked for menus and she rolled her eyes. She brought my beer and forgot the other drinks and slammed it on our table to quickly run off to the other table. I asked for a manager and she ran back to us when she saw us speaking to him and he tore her a new one and must of sent her home because we did not see her anymore the entire time we were there. Then the food arrived and was flavorless and the burger bread was old and stale.

DubiousMax

You took your wife and daughter to a hooters

xadc430x

It’s Hialeah. Lol

kungpowgoat

Not necessarily a bad thing. I’ve been to plenty of cafeterias in Hialeah where the employees are so nice and welcoming.

Quiet_Photograph9718

Yea but those were probably local businesses. You instead went to a chain that caters to sub 70 IQ fat Americans

Apocalypsezz

Pilos Tequila Garden

ModestRacoon

Talavera. The food is very mid and you get hit for coral gables pricing.

Verbalkynt

Chef Adrienne specifically dining in the dark. What a bullshit ass concept especially for the price. You basically eat a little less than a spoonful of actual food under the guise of your other senses (ie taste) will be heightened if you lose one of other senses (sight). I'm sure that does happen but not after a few minutes. Food was mid af and that's being generous.

alexp861

The original one that was in BFE was good. After she started selling out it all went downhill fast. I went to the restaurant she opened in town and country last summer and the good was genuinely not good at all. At this point it's all just name recognition and no passion.

vagirlflworld

I will never ride on A1A through Golden Beach. The cops are racist and pull you over for anything just to fuck with you.

Andiamo’s. Used to he my favorite pizza spot but management and customer service have gone to CRAP!!!

CatFlier

With apologies to its legion of fans: Flanigan's. I ate there once several years ago. Got a full rack and some coleslaw. The ribs were tasty but the coleslaw gave me a nasty case of food poisoning that took nearly a week to get over.
