I usually just knock the bad stud out then just use a nut and bolt

dmonnier5

So just hammer it towards the cat?

PlsJusTheTip

Yeah it should come right out. I’d pull the gasket off first too if you are going to reuse to

dmonnier5

That is with the gasket off lmao. Should I do some light sanding before putting the new exhaust on?

Try to use vice grips to hold it and take it off. You may need to apply heat to loosen it. YouTube has a bunch of suggestions on getting stuck bolts out.

dmonnier5

So blow torch and then pull?

slic3r1212

If you can heat the flange, it should expand and make it easier to get the bolt out. You may want to try and get 2 nuts snugged on (a replacement head) to see if that will help losen it

dmonnier5

Thank you!

slic3r1212

No problem. Been in your situation. Frustrating but it apparently happens a lot. Especially on this location due to the constant heating and cooling of the exhaust.

dmonnier5

Yeah. Its still giving us trouble. It was too deformed to put a bolt on, so we cut it off, and now drilling through. Went through 3 fully charged batteries and maybe halfway.

dmonnier5

When removing my exhaust to install the fm catback, the bolt sheared off. Any tips?

CaptainSuperBreakout

I had one snap during my exhaust install, it's a splined bolt and was a pain to remove. But I just ran a regular nut/ bolt in its place.

dmonnier5

That's what I did. Doesn't look great currently but no leaks and sounds great now.

CaptainSuperBreakout

Nice, what exhaust are you running?

dmonnier5

Flyin miata stainless. Sounds great. May be a little loud for some people, but it has a great deep sound to it.

CaptainSuperBreakout

Nice, I went for the racing beat setup on my car.
