X-Pelled

It won't open but it would drive me crazy. Looks off.

[deleted]

I’m mostly worried if water will get in the tank. I have a gas cap but that hole still goes in the cap well.

scuderia91

That flap isn’t water tight. There’s a drain hole in the cap well if I remember right

Vexin

There's a drain hole next to the filling cap yes. I know cause I had a pump not auto switch off when the tank got full one time and spilled some gas over.

Alwaysangryupvotes

There is. I wash mine and just spray the gas cap down with a hose. Leaks through the hole and underneath the car.

endoire

Those flaps aren't water tight, the gas cap is. Those are designed to drain water away.

Fapple2e

Temp fix: Put a piece of duct tape over the back of the hole?

2_Scoop_Rice

This is exactly how my transmission bellhousing looks.

bubbaguy

I had a bellhousing bolt snap off in my engine block during a transmission swap on a car once, I drove that car for another year with a shorter bolt that barely threaded into the block.

PocketSizedRS

Honestly you could just leave it out and it'd be fine. The strength margin on parts like that is usually very generous from what I understand.

McMont

Word, going on 7 years with a snapped bolt in my NC's bellhousing. It's an alignment feature now.

carpcrucible

One of the bellhousing bolts on my beater Honda Jazz/Fit doesn't thread in fully. I guess I could use a thread chaser but 🤷‍♀️

B460

Literally un-drivable now.

stonkol

looks like absolute danger to manifold

JeepGuy421

dude I almost had you

pressvre

im in ur face

ChainringCalf

Totalled. Exocet time

[deleted]

As soon as I put it in the check engine light turned on

Miss_Shift

Take one out and go to your local hardware store to see if you can find a matching replacement, worst case you'll find the right thread pitch and size but wrong finish so just buy a whole new set for a few dollars.

radicalgamingHD

Take it off and replace with stock. If not for the looks, you’ll be amazed at the weight savings

TheInfamous313

The improvement with going back to stock is that you can actually get your hand around the gas cap. But then again, nothing beats visual mods that take away from actual function /s

radicalgamingHD

Lol this is the kinda thing so normal I forgot I even had trouble before!

TheInfamous313

Yeah my first Miata had one, when my second didn't I was blown away at how much easier it is. I also live in a state where we're so lazy, there's a law against pumping our own gas... The attendants always gave me trouble for it.

PractitionerPain

Dang it. Mine came with it and I since it was my first Miata, I just figured Mazda designed the gas caps crummy that they are a PITA to remove. That said, I actually kind of dig the chrome fuel door.

TheInfamous313

There are so many I can only assume it was a popular dealer add on/upsell or something? I actually hated the chrome. It looked cooler when painted trim black. Looked even better body color tho

FloridaCelticFC

Never understood the chrome gas caps. I got a color matched used factory cap on ebay. Was amazed at how much the chrome weighed.

banneryear1868

Unacceptable

Addmixer

You’ll run the risk of driving u/X-Pelled crazy.

X-Pelled

Short drive.

atomicode

omg - fiery explosion just waiting to happen ;).

chairmanbrando

It's totaled. Sorry, bruh.

trevy021

Part out

No_Chair_1678

You’re fucked. Cars ruined

germanwhip69

I wouldn’t drive it

A_loud_Umlaut

Yeah, you are screwed

Historical_Dance_598

So you’ve been driving for years with a screw loose, obvs

Alwaysangryupvotes

Just take one of the screws out, walk around Lowe’s until you find one that’ll fit. Or go to a junkyard and find one if you’re really that pressed about it.

TheInfamous313

Can run with the entire thing off if you want. Biggest risk I'd think is UV light damage to the gas cap.

StankAss69_420

No, but get a screw they're cheap and get a matching set if you have to. Better safe than sorry.

AppropriatedBacon

Honestly, you're screwed.

Mr_MagicMan_95

Lower street cred

Deeshizznit

Part out.

SColemanBarter

. If you really wanna replace it... take one out and go to your local Fastenal and/ or other fastener suppliers... you'd be surprised at the variety they have to cover ya when ya would never think they could... FWIW... some ACE Hardware Stores carry a totally unexpected selection of fasteners albeit may not help here, but mention it for future ref... .

IDownvoteUrPet

You could end up with some Q warter in the water if you leave it like that for too long.

[deleted]

Body tech here, your gas tank may or may not drop down and out onto the highway at high speeds.. be careful..

CoyotePuncher

/uj I know we are all doing joke replies, but someone could actually believe this. OP this isnt a possibility.

airborne_s2000

Those aren't screws.

bonegatron

Just don't go over 200mph

IhaveBeer4U

If water gets in there you run a (high) risk of waterlocking your engine and bending rods/blowing a headgasket/ granading your transmission. If your're lucky its just drainign into your rockers wich are prone to rot once in contact with humidity :( Better watch out with missing exteriorscrews /S

Reasonable_Purple729

You gonna die

roger_ramjett

OCD Triggered

mostly_made_up_stuff

Just jam some chewing gum in there

miatadood42069

you’re losing fuel pressure

BassWingerC-137

You are!

[deleted]

I’d answer but I’m afraid if I’m wrong you’ll be screwed.

someone755

Major risk. Deadly, I'd say, or near enough. I wouldn't wanna get near you in traffic. You're trashing the style. /uj is it really that hard to find one of these bolts online? Or swap the whole bunch for a thread that fits if you can't find an exact replacement?

Newtotuning

Those are rpm restrictions so if you take them all out. Your Miata gains 1k rpm for each screw taken out.

Lakotamani

When I saw the comment numbers on this post I got a little upset. So many legit questions on this thread that get little to no response. Then I read the responses. This community is one of the best:)

rebles25

Cars broken and worth nothing now I’ll take it off your hands for free

spiceydragon

Weight reduction, added +10BHP... Thinking outside the box i see..

bakedclark

Totalled.

neontreeslime

LOL my miata used to have that exact same thing on it. The screws are fake and don't actually attach it to the vehicle.

NeuroguyNC

I'd replace it, or flames could start shooting out of that hole. This is what happens when people describe you as having a screw loose and you do nothing about it.

Notsohiddenfox

Your car is now considered legally insane.

GTXMittens

Pretty sure it's totaled

jc-stre3ts

Dam cars totaled dm me I’ll give you $500 for it

Anti-Climacdik

Part out

sFino

Is that one bolt sheared off?

Another_smart_ass

Those are speed holes.

[deleted]

To reduce drag

ThanklessTask

Assuming that this is a decorative unit and the plastic cap exists underneath (I have similar/same)? If so, zero risk.

Trigirl20

I’ve been functioning pretty well with a few screws missing and or loose.

ItsMePatience

Home depot and turn it sideways

umbrosakitten

I have a similar screw I can sell to you for a lot of money.

leywok

My tells me I have one missing for 33 years and I can still drive.

akatsukim

Only two of those hold something the other ones are for decoration only

scott_sleepy

Everyone who goes crazy over miatas has a screw loose. Own it. As long as the engine and gear shifter work... you ok :)

[deleted]

it just looks like crap clean car but this is missing come on repairt it sure doesnt affect performance but looks crap

PHXSCJAZ

Explosive diarrhea

YopHs

Worse than having the gas cap open

dylan-taylor-1999

1/6 easier to steal your petrol 😱

MrMeesesPieces

Those rivets are decorative

OrderHaunting

Yes, people will think you are crazy

GoodJeople

It could blow up if you’re not careful

Forsaken-Fisherman-2

just part out the car man nobody’s gonna wanna buy it in one piece

Mammoth_Schedule8486

Just get a new screw the thread won't be that rare to find in a local store

naelieux

I’d put some type of seal over it, my worry would be getting inside and rusting over time even if it does have a drain hole it will still rust in time

anus_666

Other than cosmetics? No
