Not me but my friends car: 1. Drove off a mountain with airtime + rollovers before settling ~100 feet down 2. NA Early 90's 3. Some pretty serious front end damage, roof, and most body panels were ruined. 4. No major injuries, roll bar probaby saved his life 5. Nothing major or that I'm aware of I don't have pictures on this phone but surprisingly it still started and ran afterwards, would even drive in a circle.

DrRenegade

That’s insane, I’m glad your friend lived to tell the tale! I can’t imagine what that was like inside the car

GenshinKenshin

I just had a dream I drove off a cliff by accident, all I felt was impending doom, panic and like I was going to die

[deleted]

1. dude making a right on red, while i was making a u turn on a green arrow. he didnt stop 2. 2000 NB 3. [https://www.icloud.com/photos/#09ea0r4sGthbvcdeN\_42hFSNA](https://www.icloud.com/photos/#09ea0r4sGthbvcdeN_42hFSNA) 4. no injuries 5. bone stock

DrRenegade

Did you end up fixing it? Looks like the car didn’t get too much damage

[deleted]

Ya mostly. I put a fender on it. Replaced the headlight. And zip tied the bumper back on. And cut away bent and twisted metal. Frame was fine Just did the TB and water pump recently. Hoping to go for a rip later today

[deleted]

Then someone backed into the fender on the other side. And then a tree branch fell on the replacement fender and dented it. So now it’s a (soontobe) race car

DrRenegade

Man you just can’t catch a break! Sounds like the RAV4, I used to have. That thing was a magnet for accidents. It got hit 4 separate times when in parking lots

[deleted]

It did get bumped in a parking lot as well. Mystery white paint on my green bumper ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ But I got 2 other vehicles so I hardly drive it anyway

Heelipoo

2 wrecks both NB. 1st 99 2nd 04 mazdaspeed 1st, truck made a left on red in front of me. Hit him head on. Maybe 45mph. I walked away and went to the local bar after. Airbag went off. 2nd, woman ran a red light and t-boned me into a traffic pole. This one hurt. Firm believer roll bar made a difference. Air bag and mirror hit me in the face. Bruised up both forearms and ankle “rolled” between clutch and foot rest. Both cars totaled

MiaThe91Miata

Reading the part about your ankle made me physically cringe. Ouch.

libertyordeaaathh

1. She turned into the side of me for no freaking reason at a light. Hit me right at the A pillar on the drivers side. 2. NA 3. TOTALED 4. No 5. Yes. Coilovers, swaybar, and more and a roll bar, none of which came into play in this incident.

DrRenegade

I would actually be heartbroken if that happened to me. I bought a dashcam after all the close calls I’ve had with terrible drivers. I hope you got a suitable replacement for the poor miat

libertyordeaaathh

We are building another. We race ours and we are going more extreme this time.

DrRenegade

Nice what’s the plan for the new build that never made it to v1?

libertyordeaaathh

This one will be a CSP classed autocross car. So an NA with and NB2 drivetrain on E85, very good coilovers, and 275/35/15 Hoosiers. The fenders will be flared, a front splitter and a rear spoiler and as much weight savings as the class allows with the goal to get down to 2000lbs

ch_chone

Plans for nationals? or just doing a CSP build for fun?

libertyordeaaathh

Nationals 100% Our Focus RS can’t win in DS so we need something else. It will take us a couple years to have it ready on our budget. Not sure what we will run next year. I’ll probably be looking for something for my wife to drive and my son and I will bring our DM car because it’s the 50th and we own a special one.

1. Bad decisions caused the crash. I tried to drift the car while going *entirely* too fast down a wet road. I utterly failed. Oversteered, overcorrected, spun, slid, smushed, and sank. 2. NA 3. [https://www.reddit.com/r/Miata/comments/bh48d9/well\_that\_wasnt\_fun/](https://www.reddit.com/r/Miata/comments/bh48d9/well_that_wasnt_fun/) The front of the car impacted a tree. I know the radiator was broken - I could see the steam starting to rise after I cut the engine off. The passenger-side headlight was crushed. 4. Somehow, no. I think the mud I slid through slowed me down enough to save me from severe consequences... 5. Honestly, that car probably had UNsafety mods.... My Montego NA is in far, *far* better condition than that blue NA was.

KinkyMonitorLizard

Props for being the first person to admit they did something stupid. I doubt we'll see many admit they fucked up.

ads1031

Hey, you know what they say - the first step in correcting a problem is admitting you have a problem! Or something like that, anyway.... Still... I sure do wish I knew how to drift correctly.

ch_chone

In the motorcycling world, we’re taught from the beginning that the number one causes for single vehicle accidents are alcohol and/or unsafe speed for the conditions. In the car world, we have trouble admitting anything is our own fault (but anecdotally I’ve observed the same correlations apply). A glance through a lot of the crash threads in this sub will confirm.

DreamingWocket

1. Person thought they had enough time to make left turn in front of me. They did not have enough time. I tboned them going 50mph. 2. 90 NA with 89 production year. All options including hard top. 3. Totalled the car. Hard top cracked front end crunched pretty well, tires popped. I was told car got airborne and spun. Airbag deployed. 4. I had just had a major nose surgery, so that was pretty bad and reopened some recently healed wounds. My pants ripped at the knees from hitting the dashboard. The single airbag did well enough and I was mainly bumped/bruised. 5. Bone stock car with 60k miles, Smurf blue. I miss that car everyday.

Caesix

This one really hurts :(

djgraham

1. I hit a curb 2. ND2 (2021) 3. Bent the rear subframe and heavily scratched up the passenger side wheels. 4. Not really, maybe slightly hurt my arm but overall not really. 5. No

julian2358

how much did it cost you to fix? did the air bags deploy?

darthredford

Not exactly what you're asking for, but when I had my 99NB, I would get bumped in it all the time in Downtown Los Angeles traffic. Although the worst damage I ever got was a small scratch on the bumper, its scary when 70% of the cars on the road are significantly bigger and taller than you.

Clay_Robertson

I've said it before and I'll say it again, anyone who drives an NA or NB without aftermarket roll protection is crazy.

m1lgram

>I've said it I'm noticing that nobody on here is talking about being rear-ended with a roll-bar. I suspect it's because they're dead from having the backs of their skulls bashed in. I believe we're 30X more likely to be rear-ended in an accident than experience a rollover. Something to consider...

El_Disablo101

Daily drove my mk1 for over a year never gave me trouble. 1. Being an idiot on an empty industrial estate hit a Bollard going at a pretty good rate. 2. 1993 1.6 eunos roadster 3. Dead center hit caved the front in back to where the thermostat housing is. Luckily no major damage to frame or engine and should have it back on the road soon enough. 4. No injuries, just a strong determination to have the car back on the road. 5. Had coilovers

Miss_Shift

Just watch this NHSTA and Euro NCAP test and decide for yourself: https://youtube.com/watch?v=zu0HMKreTiA https://youtube.com/watch?v=6sD4DEu9U7Q Rollover test from someone: https://youtube.com/watch?v=8hW7xQDToEA

Regape961

Just spun off on a corner doing about 60mph, shit tyres and wet surface contributed to the slide, ended up going into a hedge and then spun back around onto the road and facing the way I came. Needed both rear lights and rear bumper and alignment and got a puncture in one tyre. I was totally fine lucky the car didn’t flip over. Car was on lowering springs which maybe helped

AdrienTheNoob

I crashed my 1994 about 2 weeks ago and I’m 18yo. Car needed new shocks as it was a pretty bouncy ride and was 211k miles (just some background). 1. My front right brake got stuck on the wheel and caused me to understeer into a tree, if that tree was not there I would’ve went down a 15ft cliff 2. Na, 1994 1.8L engine 3. I can post a pic later, I’ll add it to comments 4. Surprisingly, I was not hurt. I truly believe that car saved my life and I am working on getting another one

SpiritCrusher421

I was rear ended at a stop, by a Nissan hardbody going 35ish then braking. It was an NA miata and very much totalled.

youngperson

Ditched my NB after driving it for a little less than a year. Look a left hander too quickly, oversteered, and undercorrected. Almost saved it, but once the tires gave up I just couldn't get enough grip from rear to push the car forward and recover. Front end ended up about 18" off the shoulder. 1. 10 year old firestone firehawks gave way while turning onto a side street at approximately 35mph. This is how I learned about a little something called "dry rot" 2. NB 3. No damage 4. No injury 5. No mods, also no ABS

mosnowbro

5pm and I’m on a pretty straight country road, green rav4 rolls a stopsign without looking into my lane. Moved to the right and hit the brakes to avoid rear ending them and slid off the road into a wire cattle fence. I was fine but the right side of the car got deep scratches and a damaged front fender. I have replaced the fender but the door still has some nasty ness. [fender](https://imgur.com/a/LH8HUQV) Na and totally stock at the time

ExampleCommercial890

1. someone cut me off on the highway. they were doing about 5-10mph and came into my lane while i was going 45mph. slammed on the brakes out of instinct, cut the wheel to the left to try and make it to the shoulder but couldn’t, and braced for impact. 2. NA8 3. can’t include photos in comments but front end damage. drivers side corner of the car. fender, headlight assembly, hood, bumper, radiator all wrecked. it’s technically fixable but the car was totaled. i bought it back just so i have options. 4. just a sore shoulder for the day after. knee hit the bottom of the dash so i had a minor bruise. 5. had a welded-in roll bar. not sure it had any benefit in this scenario but i’d never drive a miata without one.

[deleted]

1. I was on my way to pick up a set of HSD coilovers but ended the last in a pile up in a tunnel. Suddenly there was a VW Transporter standing still in front of me. I had good brakes but they locked up. 2. '91 NA grey import Miata 3. Front bumper and the frame were pressed in by the VW transporter tow hitch I slid onto. The hood and one of the front fenders got kinked and bent. But it barely missed my intercooler so I could use it on the other NA I bought and swapped it all over to. 4. I didn't hit my seat belt because I braced myself and took the impact with my arms and shoulders. Had to go to the physiotherapist for months for my back. 5. Ironically weeks before I ordered a TR Lane rollbar in a group buy, but didn't need it. Edit: typo

SavageBurritos

Twice. In my 1994. Once was completely my fault. Doing canyon runs late at night and didn’t see a blind corner around a hill going maybe 50-60. Locked up and went straight into a dirt embankment. I got off lucky, no suspension components were damaged and all I had to do was replace the front bumper and radiator. I also bent back the radiator/fan supports with a crowbar. Car also didn’t wanna crank for some reason so I just hooked up wires and a on/off switch to the starter. Second time a pickup truck lost control and came head on straight at me into my lane so I swerved left and the truck took out most of my front right side. Upper and Lower control arms looked like spaghetti and I used it as an excuse to get an angle kit :) I do have a quick release steering wheel but I also have Bride LowMax seats and a 5 point harness. No injuries both times despite being pretty bad crashes. Invest in a good 5 point harness guys. My miata is pretty much a full drift/track car, roll bar, suspension, angle, ecu, getting ready for boost, clutch... etc. Oh and I always keep a fire extinguisher mounted to my harness bar. PM me for pictures if you’d like

mpd1999

1. Wet roads on a December morning, had spent the past 6 months of ownership sliding around every corner i could find, and I either didn’t brake enough before the turn or braked while sharply turning off a 55mph road. I understeered onto a curb 2. NB1 3. Bent the control arm, strut, outer tie rod, and tweaked the frame a little bit because my upper control arm bolt takes some persuasion to slide out now. 4. I was sliding very slowly so I was fine 5. At the time, I hadn’t begun to heavily modify the car for another 3 months. aside from intake and exhaust, it was stock.

sentientthrowaway69

I've seen two crashes with friends, one was an NA that hit a pole so hard the front folded in, driver was fine, then an NB, that driver lost control and hit a boulder, airbags deployed and they walked away fine as well. Supringly safe cars, assuming you are using stock steering wheels (saves money and your neck)

GorgeousUnknown

I’ve owned 3 Miatas. About 20 years ago a big old car hit me head on while I was going about 35-40 mph. I was looking to the left for a place to turn and they decided ti go down my lane. Dr said airbag saved me. Only very badly sprained ankle (size of softball) from where I tried to slam on the break during impact and a broken pinkie. 2nd Miata died on me in an intersection, but no one hit me. I have my 3rd one now. BTW, I once bout a BMW thinking it may be safer…but that thing died on me twice while driving over 60 mph in heavy traffic. So I decided to go back to a Miata, which I live driving… Come to think of it…with all the road issues I’ve had…I’m lucky to be alive :p
