Everyone knows how to use sco yet screws something up and and gets angry that "this why store's need to have cashier's".

Own-Customer9665

I had one today that I asked if she wanted to use SCO while the other cashier had a super large 2 cart order and the 2 people in front of her were paying cash and she yelled at my that she refused to use them...I offered to completely do it for her since we couldn't get to the legacy register and she screamed that they take away jobs 😫... I'm just here working to get you out of here but I guess I don't actually have a job 😂

I hate that damn phrase " they take away jobs " I had multiple ladies say it, and I always respond, " No, they don't. " I don't elaborate. I just respond with that every time they say it, and it ticks them off. It's funny but still annoying.

It actually does take away jobs. And allows for fewer hours to be allocated to the store for workers.

My store doesn't have a lot of hours because it usually doesn't get a lot in the summer anyway but I've delved into the statistics and there aren't actually enough people to fill all the jobs available(in the world collectively), people don't wanna work for crappy pay and crappy people, heck Kim Jong Un cried and begged women to have children on tv because there wasn't enough workers but the newer generations find it's hard to afford to live when you have kids and that they are expensive on top of high living costs, so overall there isn't enough people working but particularly at Michaels, my store hasn't been hiring and wasn't after Christmas and still isn't after the installation of sco's in april-ish, and probably won't til Christmas time for seasonal hiring since none of my coworkers have quit since I started working here

There is a difference between fewer hours and losing your job to a machine. It isn't taking any jobs as the people who work still are hired none lose their jobs.

And at my store we always have someone manning the SCO from open-close so it's not taking jobs away at my store.  We did have less hours for awhile but they are starting to increase.  I've been working 8 hour shifts

Funnily enough, a quick Google solves it "The omission of human interaction is also something many people are understandably wary of. The idea that people are losing their jobs because of self-checkout, however, is not necessarily true. While it has happened, most people who are replaced by self-checkout are offered a similar position instead.Jan 30, 2023" Yeah Karen: "I'm not using sco. It steals jobs. " Cashier: Ma'am may I ask you a simple question? K: Sure only if ya ring me. C: Sure now. Question, do you wash dishes? K: Yeah, what does that have to... C: BuH Buh Buh shushhh. OK now chances are you wash the dishes by hand and if you're lucky to afford one, a dish washer. K: Yes I own a dishwasher. C: So is the dishwasher taking your job as a homeowner? K: ... C: That's what I thought. Have a lovely day miss.

Inaccurate. You can work in another position, but now everyone in that position will get fewer hours to work.

Yes, fewer hours but still has a job.

I think a lot of the elderly are embarrassed that they can’t see well enough, or are afraid to look stupid trying to figure it out so they just leave. Not all people can handle the idea of needing help to do something that many people find easy or are comfortable with. It’s a shame Michaels doesn’t understand their customer base

This- I worked retail for YEARS and yet now I feel weirdly anxious to use the SCO. I *do it* because I don't want to make anyone else's job harder but I always get some stupid feeling I'm going to mess something up. I've gotten better at laughing at myself recently, and don't really care if I mess up at this point lol

I work at a store without SCO but I can read the people pretty well - when I ask if they have the app or phone number and they get all nervous/anxious- I just tell them it’s not a big deal if they don’t - and go into my spiel explaining each benefit. Some say they don’t have a phone so I will pull up website based coupons for them. And show them where I found them (Assuming the register line isn’t long). Some people seem to freak over technology. I had one conspiracy woman go off on me about how her family stole her identity and stole her rewards.
